Riker didn’t like being uncertain. It wasn’t a good feeling. But he’d screwed up so much in his life that he was being cautious now. And maybe he was a little shy about intimacy that he’d never experienced. It wasn’t as though he was ever held or given kisses on his head by his own mother.
Instead, Evan was able to show him what it was like, and Riker hated how much he craved it now, because he didn’t want to seem clingy or pathetic.
But Cassidy wasn’t shy. He said things that made Riker flustered, like saying how he liked him. That he wanted more kisses. And he was being considerate enough to reassure him that he wouldn’t tell anyone.
He snorted quietly, thinking about Mr. Reid’s class. Although… maybe he should have been kinder to him and not gone along with the others in joking about the book. At least he’d gotten a perfect score on the test. It wasn’t like he had the internet or social media to entertain him.
“I could,” Riker hummed thoughtfully as he placed his hands back on Cassidy’s hips and then stood up from the bed. Sure, his heart felt like it was going to escape his chest, and his ears burned, but he followed through by leaning over Cassidy’s shoulder to give his jaw a tiny bite. Nothing to hurt him! But if he was worried about being eaten--
“Maybe we should make dinner so I don’t get too hungry,” he suggested, trying not to become too distracted by the fresh shampoo scent from Cassidy’s hair.

Once again, Cassidy laughed. He raised a hand to rub at his cheek, and while he stubbornly huffed in response he was smiling the whole time.
“Yeah, yeah. Okay. But you’d better be as good at food prep as you say you are because I’ve got a lot of work for you!” And the faster they got done, the faster they could get into the hot tub. And kiss.
He looked at Riker for a few seconds, appreciating the flush he’d yet been able to shake. Cassidy wasn’t immune either, despite his best efforts to be cool and collected about this. He wasn’t ashamed. He was almost never ashamed.
But Riker was embarrassed easily, often. So Cassidy didn’t try to hide the flush on his cheeks. He just held his head high, smiled fondly at him, and made his way to the kitchen. There was an undeniable bounce in his step, and even now he was practically glowing.
