“Yeah,I can clean that.” Not something he’d normally do but he also wasn’t going to question it, he was certain this was bothering the other. So without a question, letting René go off to shave, Alexandre went to get the bucket and fill it with water from the bathroom. He did need to nudge the other so he could get water into the bucket, and he went hunting for cleaning solution and a brush. Once he’d managed to find what he needed he headed outside to scrub the area clean. He had only been told to splash water but Alexandre had decided to make sure no evidence of last nights incident remained.
As he worked to scrub the area clean he went about ordering lunch for delivery, something for them both to eat, as a bit of a surprise. But also they would both need food, and when he headed back in he passed the counter he spotted the splatters of paint and set to cleaning them up. “Such a messy painter.” Rolling his eyes fondly, as he shook his head, it wasn’t like he was much neater really.
“Why don’t I shadow you today and see how you run things?” He called out, wondering just how much he could help the other? He didn’t really want to just sit about doing nothing for hours. While he worked on cleaning the counter of the paint, what had the other been working on ? He spotted the answer to his question. They were mini paintings of himself, and it was enough to have his cheeks warming as well as the tips of his ears, he didn’t say anything but he did look and stare for several moments.

“Thanks.” Answering as he let them by while he was shaving. Even though almost everything was healed, his face was still a bit tender as he went through the motions and adjusted accordingly. Once he was done, he washed his face off and dried it before examining himself in the mirror again. Aside from the small little nick from a few days ago, he looked mostly back to normal as he dried off his hair a bit more as well. It would be completely dry before the store opened, he figured as he walked back out to the counter to see Alexandre looking at the small paintings.
“I can do that, it’s a lot of sitting around and helping answer questions for people. I do a lot of the business stuff at the beginning and end of the day usually or answer the phone if people call.” It was a pretty simple thing for now since his shop was still getting by on word of mouth only. It worked out since there were a lot fewer window shoppers as most of them had heard about what he had to offer from friends or family.
Taking a seat he looked down at the paintings and back up at them. “I… didn’t want to forget if I could. I wasn’t sure if it had been something I’d said or done.” Speaking softly he pulled the small paintings up one by one and placed them under the counter where he had all the other ones that he hadn’t hung up yet. They weren’t his best work, with how much duller the palettes had been and how hurt he’d been when he’d painted them. But it looked like the other had cleaned up the mess he’d left that had been building up over the past week. It hadn’t been a bother to customers, other than it showed how he’d been falling apart.
Pulling the other stool out from under the counter, he moved it beside the one he was sitting on and motioned for Alexandre to sit next to him. “It’ll be alright though, I think.” He could work with this and try getting close again, he just had to be careful not to make them run again.

“I don’t mind helping, especially anything art related with paintings and such.” Since he did have a degree in art he could certainly handle anything related to that. “I can handle the phone as well if you’d like.” He really didn’t want to sit around and do nothing, that would be boring, so if he could help in some manner he was happy to offer.
“Perhaps you should use my paints, and a canvas of mine, and paint yourself something a bit larger…not that you need to remember - because I doubt you’ll forget me when I’m around you constantly.” If anything the other might just want to run away from him, it certainly seemed like others did. Mason had said he’d been too quick to move on things and push for things, he hadn’t meant to really, it was something he knew he did though. It was just who he was though…and was it so wrong? At least René might read between the lines and see the warning for what it was. He could do with it as he pleased then.
Seating himself he settled in close and let his head fall to the others shoulder. “I even got a hold of that new blue pigment they found.” The first in two hundred years and it was not cheap and he’d gotten a pretty good amount, so he could put it to good use in his works, he loved the color. Blue was honestly his favorite color, and it had nothing to do with how rare blue was in nature, he’d even had someone once pointing and staring at his eyes while telling him what color they were…and how pretty they were.
“You could do a painting like Titanic.” Assuming the other had seen the movie, because he’d been forced to watch it with a few of his cousins, it had been a group viewing of the movie and all he’d enjoyed about it was the costumes. The clothing was nice, well done, and if he remembered right most of the clothing was accurate to the times or at least really close to accurate…unlike some period movies.

“I can give you a bit of backstory on things then as we go, everything here is from back home so I can explain a bit here and there about where it came from and the ages of things.” Leaning his head to the side, he pulled out the rather thick binder from one of the shelves built into the counter. Flipping through the pages, he was careful not to make any of the manifests or customs sheets fall out.
Pausing as they spoke, he wanted to believe what they were saying, he really did. Everything was still too fresh though and it still hurt, even if it was what he wanted, because he couldn’t be sure of it still. It crept over his face before he shook it off and nodded. “I can try, I haven’t really painted anything large in a long time. Probably back when I was at university.”
The closeness was nice though, even as he went about flipping through things to make sure everything was in order for the start of the day. The mention of the new color made him smile, he’d heard about that a few months back but hadn’t looked into it much. It was mostly because he hadn’t found a good art store in the city yet, there was bound to be one but he had to widen his travelling range. “Blue would be nice for some scenes and things, maybe florals sometimes too like I saw at your home.”
Raising an eyebrow at the comment on the Titanic, he laughed a bit. “Paint you like one of my French girls? Would be fun.” The little bit of laughing burst out into a full cackle as he couldn’t keep a straight face after that bit of teasing.

“Some backstory wouldn’t be bad, I’m rather curious on some things to be fair.” He wasn’t surprised to find that the items he was bringing in to sell were from France, he expected as much, he’d assumed nothing was from this country or anywhere else really. It seemed fitting.
“You’ve not done a large canvas in a while then…and I don’t think I’ve ever done one so small.” He admitted, a bit surprised by the others words, as he eyed him with wide blue eyes for a moment. “I’ve never done really big canvases though, the sort you need a ladder for, I’ve simply helped in restoring things that large.”
Nodding his head slowly. “You can use it then, paint whatever you’d like with it. It’s a true blue I’d say…if you can even really say that. But I do like the new color, it wasn’t easy to come by though. Really it’s mostly order online, I don’t know if any stores locally have it, I haven’t looked as I kept buying from where I’d gotten it when it first came out.” Because why not? At least he knew they had it and the quality was there. Why take a chance on a getting it from a local store?
Watching the other break into laughter he couldn’t help but smile brightly. “Yes, I suppose so. It would be a good reason for a large canvas since I’m certain you’d like to be detailed in such a painting. If I could paint people I would do the same and paint you. But I don’t paint people…” Just silhouettes of people in the distance, that was one noticeable thing if someone were looking for it. Rococo paintings had people in them, not all of them but enough of them did, and he took his style from there…but he never had people beyond ones in the distance where nothing but the shape was needed. No details and no real colors most of the time.
“I’ll let you even bring a canvas and easel into my bedroom to work if you want…I’ll model however you want me to.” The words were a sweet whisper, nothing too flirtatious or spoken too innocently, but he was being honest. He rather liked the idea actually, even as he spoke, he could feel a bit of a thrill at the idea…the attention. Yeah, he liked the idea a little too much.

“Everything is from a large estate, I figured that clearing it out would make for a good business model to start with here in the States while I figured out connections and things.” He wouldn’t mention it was actually his own belongings he was selling, mostly because he really had no attachment to the things.
“It’s easier to work on smaller canvases and they’re all sized for my kit. I’m always on the go so I never really settled for a larger work space after university. Moving here didn’t really change much, I still don’t have the space for more until I get some more things handled. I don’t mind it though, working with such a large space would eat up so much time and I can’t really afford that right now since it’s just me running the shop.” It was just a matter of fact and he was alright with it, he had the weekends to explore and paint or bits of time between customers when he could work on things.
“I guess I just prefer in-person for art supplies but I might take a look at the site you ordered from. I could think of a couple of things I could use a color like that on and if they have it in different mediums that would be nice too.”
Tapping his finger on the counter, it made a dull sound as he thought about the painting idea. It sounded fun but he knew he really got into the zone when working so it might not be as fun for the other. All the models during his courses had complained about it, especially when it got colder or they were in certain poses. There was also that level of frustration when a certain shape or line wouldn’t come out right and the model wasn’t so much a person as a challenge and puzzle to solve. It felt fitting though because Alexandre certainly was a puzzle.
“Maybe I will then, it could be fun. But maybe after a bit more time and once things settle back down a bit more. It’s cute though, sounds like you’d enjoy the attention and I don’t mind giving it to you.” Teasing softly as he offered them a kiss before getting up to flip the sign from closed to open. That done, he took his seat back and leaned into them. “Ready for a boring day?”

“I wouldn’t mind it, it’s one thing I hated - dealing with models.” He stated with a wrinkling of his nose. He’d never liked the idea of painting nude females and had avoided it, asked for male models, and had gone to other classes in order to work on male models. He’d been forced to do it and really it hadn’t come out as well as he’d wanted it to, he really was no good with people, but he’d needed certain classes for an art degree.
“But I wouldn’t mind being someones model.” Because he really did like the idea, as he leaned into the others kiss, he watched René wander off to open the shop. “I doubt it’ll be that boring. I also already ordered lunch for us, it’ll be here later on in the day.” When it was time. He’d made sure the order was placed for the appropriate time.
“You could always use my art room, I don’t mind you putting it to use.” He wouldn’t mind sharing the space with René so the other could paint on larger things, take his time on projects, and have a place to store his paintings and supplies. Maybe making such offers, looking to open his house to the other, was him moving a bit quickly but he really wasn’t surprised he was so quick to make sure offerings.
He really was trying here and trying meant being himself…which meant quick jumps and pushes even and going forward. And he really was hoping he didn’t hurt things by being himself here, by moving in a seemingly sudden way.
“What do you normally do while waiting on people to arrive?”

“I think the only models I had an issue with were the ones that smoked in the studio, but I paint people more often than you do. I think you’d be a good model, though I wonder if I would have to tie you up to keep you still.” Another tease as he looked over the store and all the things he had out for sale.
“Oh, you ordered lunch? I should probably order breakfast then, or at least some espresso. Maybe from that bakery… I could get some crepes or maybe an omelet or something.” Muttering a bit to himself as he pulled his phone out, a few new messages had come in from customers but he swiped past them to the delivery app and pulled up the menu so the other could look. “I usually have breakfast and read or paint while waiting, I have a few books scattered back here and more in the drawer of the nightstand in the backroom. I need to get some newer ones or at least a bit more variety, I couldn’t really bring my whole library with me on the plane. You know those bastards have a weight limit? Even if you pay extra they still won’t let you go over 50lbs? It’s terrible.” Huffing as he tapped the bit of his order in before sliding the phone over to them.
“Order what you’d like, everything is freshly baked so it’s pretty good and the espresso usually arrives hot.” That done, René settled and really thought about what they’d offered. Going over to their house meant spending more time with them but it felt a bit like whiplash still, he wanted to maybe dive into things but it was still too soon so he would settle for a compromise to keep just a bit of distance as he waded through everything. “Maybe during the weekends or if I decide to close for whatever holidays the people here celebrate or expect stores to be closed during.”

“Well, seeing as I don’t smoke there shouldn’t be an issue…though I think you only mention tying me up because it’s something you’d like to do modeling for you or not.” He might not be certain of it but he did have a feeling the other wouldn’t object one bit, he had a feeling he was correct, it wasn’t anything he’d ever thought about but now he was picturing it because how could he not?
“Yes, I’ve heard about the fifty pounds though I’ve never faced the issue. I haven’t left Destiny City since I was sixteen, since I joined the fighting here.” Shrugging, even though he’d given up a lot for the Negaverse, he did wonder from time to time if he should just go on a trip somewhere and see the world.
“I’ve heard family members complain about it. But if you want to bring the books over I can handle storing them somewhere for now. At least you’ll have access to them and can read them then.” He said slowly, testing out the words as he spoke, wondering if the offer was too much. It wasn’t too much, he didn’t think so anyway, though he also wasn’t exactly sure where or how he’d store the others books but he was certain he’d manage it.
Taking the offered phone he put in his drink order first, as well as tossing in an order for an italian soda, before ordering something light for breakfast. He didn’t like to go heavy with morning meals if he could help it. But it did have a fair amount of veggies in it as well, he kept his meals healthy. The italian soda was a rare thing he’d treat himself to on occasion.
“Mmm, sounds fine with that. Figure the national holidays are when the bank is closed - you can look up the holidays and mark them on a callander.”

“You’re not wrong, it could be fun and I know quite a bit about the topic.” Ideas started floating around in René’s head as he spoke, it could be fun to do something akin to ivy on them but the amount of time it would take would push the whole thing to a long weekend.
“That’s a bit sad, not getting to travel in so long. Does that mean I can’t go anywhere anymore either?” That wasn’t something he liked the sound of, being trapped somewhere without much of a say in things. The fact that this city was full of all sorts of things, mundane or magical, didn’t help enough to offset the idea of not being able to leave.
The offer Alexandre had made got him back on track though, making him think things over as he took the phone back and paid for the order. “Maybe, I’ll see about getting some of them sent over when I call for another shipment through customs. I wouldn’t want to clutter up your home though, you do have a roommate even if they’re your family.” The idea of leaving things over at the other’s place slowly felt a bit more comfortable to him anyway, things that were less noticeable like clothing or maybe a few bathroom items each time he went over. Little crumbs here and there sounded safer and less likely to maybe startle them.

“Somehow I’m not surprised you are interested in tying people up.” He didn’t know a thing about that, and whatever was involved in that, he hadn’t a clue that there was a lot to it. He certainly had no clue whatever was going on in René’s mind at the moment, what the other was picturing, because it was far beyond his own imagination.
“No, we can leave, I just haven’t. People leave often enough, I’m certain of it, and some like us just stop doing anything and are never seen again.” He was certain they just went on with life like a normal person, some might even leave the city, and live as if they are clueless about all this. He didn’t know how they could manage that, once you knew what was really going on, but it happened.
“It’s fine, I don’t mind taking in some books. I can put them into the guest room and you can grab the books whenever you want something to read.” He really had no issue holding onto books for the other, even if he put them into the closet of one of the guest rooms he had. It would leave them available for the other to come and borrow to read. They’d be here and not in France and wouldn’t it be one step closer to being moved here fully?

“I mean aside from keeping a brat still… it can be done with a certain art to it as well. I’ve seen some gorgeous work with people being suspended by ropework.” It was something that always looked fun but he hadn’t really had a model or anyone that would be up for that. “Maybe I can sketch a few ideas at some point.”
“Alright then, I think I can manage that if it’s more choice than a chain because at some point I will have to go back home to get some things that can’t be handled by paid help. Maybe I can drag you along, Americans can just go wherever they want with that passport of theirs. It would be fun to see you confused by the roads there just as much as I am here.” It would be something nice, and maybe a way to get them to know a bit more about things outside the city. If they’ve really just stayed in one place for so long there was a lot they hadn’t seen or done and he was always up for exploring.
“Maybe just a few… here and there. There isn’t enough room in your entire house for my collection though and it’s always growing. Speaking of that, I’m nearly finished with the one in my bag so I should see about swapping it out.” Pulling his bag up, he freed the book and paint kit from it before tossing it back under the counter. The book was pretty banged up and he slid it closer to the register with his kit.
“We could also talk about things to pass the time if there’s anything you want to know. Normal things, just in case someone shows up of course.” Leaning in close, he rested his head against theirs as he spoke. It was a bit easier to think about things when he was in his own shop.

“A brat, you sound like you are speaking of a specific brat.” He stated with a look given to the other, a questioning look, as he tilted his head just a bit. “I honestly have no idea about all of that.” Making a bit of a vague gesture as he spoke, something to go with his words, as he stared at the other for a moment.
“I think you could convince me to go, I have wanted to see Paris if I’m being honest. I just never felt like I should leave here.” Turning down trips his parents took, he’d stayed here, he’d even turned down joining Lily and her family when they’d moved to England for a while.
“Really? You have that many books?” He questioned, surprised by this bit of information. For his home to not fit them all that meant René had a hell of a collection. It also lent itself to the forming of an idea for the other - a surprise. He knew he’d be gifting the other books now…but how to know what books he didn’t have? Maybe something else then…something dealing with books?
“I want to know about the riots? You brought it up and I’d like to know more…especially since you got hurt by being involved. I want to know why you got involved…was it to cause trouble…an act of passion and a real feel for the cause.” He wanted to know that because to get involved in something like that could point to some very big feelings and passions…to opinions on certain matters. He wanted to know what made him tick. “Feel free to ask me anything as well, especially since I feel like that one is a bit close to home.”

“I mean you’re the one who thinks it’s specific?” Shrugging as he smiled. “I can show you some photoshoots I’ve seen of it if you want, not here though and we can get some ideas for things for down the line if you still like the idea for later.” He really liked the ones with flowers tied into the theme, it was nice to look at.
“Oh, could I?” Pulling away to look at them carefully. “I think I’d like that, bringing you along and maybe showing you some sights.” Carefully avoiding mentioning that it was partially because he was worried they’d be gone again when he came back.
“I have… a lot of books because I had a lot of space to keep them. I lost track after a while and always came home with at least one book a day if not more. Most of them old but sometimes whatever new story came out that I was interested in, all the bookstores knew me back home.” A whole room of books that he spent time in alone, reading and enjoying worlds that were very far away and much more interesting than his own.
Sighing a bit, he rolled his shoulder and thought about how to proceed with answering that. There were a lot of reasons but they had changed over time. “My shoulder isn’t from that but they did make it a bit worse. It was a bit of getting into trouble but more I agree with the people who were rioting and joined in. A lot of things were going on, unfairness or changes that would be more of an issue for the regular people of the country. It may not have affected me personally but it bothered me and I couldn’t stand by and let things just happen. I learned quite a bit about things though, flammable things, and maybe got a bit banged up here and there when things got broken up.” It was why some of them were fuzzy when he tried to think about it.
“I would like to know… well a lot of things, so many things it's a bit hard to figure out where to begin, even with the mundane things. But… I guess the thing that has been bothering me most was New Year’s Eve…” Now he sat apart from them, leaning on the counter as he watched and waited to see what they would say. All the pretty words and promises they would pour out onto him again. He liked to hear them but they still felt like they were hollow after what had happened.

That really was a lot of books and he wasn’t even sure where to begin on what the other would like, or maybe something new to introduce him to. He’d have to think of something though, something dealing with books, because it was something the other was interested in. “And you never somehow bought the same book twice? Was there some sort of list you have or something so you knew?” He was certain if he had that many plants he wouldn’t even be able to keep track of them all, that he’d wind up buying the same species more than once and not on purpose.
“I would like someone to show me around Paris, I’m afraid I’d get lost rather quickly.” Because he couldn’t read or write in French and the signs would be the undoing of him. He would, without a doubt, get lost and while he could ask for help he wouldn’t be able to read anything they told him to look for. Any signs or store names or anything like that. Though he didn’t mention this, there was no reason to, he was fine with just speaking French even though he still had work to do on it. “Maybe I’ll find something to bring back from there.” Or a few things, he might just enjoy shopping in France.
“It makes me wonder what you think of the new riots breaking out across France and Europe - the farmers rioting.” he spoke softly, wondering what the other thought of that, it had been on the news a fair few times and it wasn’t hard to find online either. It seemed a lot was going on in Europe and he did wonder how it would all turn out in the end, hopefully it would be on the farmers side.
Of course, New Year's Eve…damn it. He knew the other would want to know, to question it, it had been such a sudden change in things. “I knew you were gaining feelings for me, I was certain of it, even if I tried to deny it and ignore it…act like it wasn’t there. I hadn’t turned up that night intending for things to turn out as they did, I really hadn’t. But it hit me light freight train that you wanted more…and it terrified me. I couldn’t..the idea was like ice water being dumped into my veins…and feeling sick to my stomach all at once.” Shifting in his seat he drew his legs up, because he was too damn short in this seat otherwise, and thought over how best to explain things. He needed to explain, he knew he did, but damn it he didn’t want pity either.
“I had just had another relationship end a few months before, October. “So not even two months…so soon and he’d already sought out someone. But he hadn’t been looking for a relationship, just something else to feed a want and a need. “I didn’t want a relationship, it was too soon and I really didn’t plan on ever dating again. I’ve had failed relationships and failed attempts at dating. I didn’t want to be hurt again so I wanted to avoid it. I didn’t want a relationship, even if it was you, because I knew it would fail again on me. Somehow I’d mess up, again, or not be enough or do something right and it would end and I would have to pick myself up again. I didn’t want to do that…so I ran before it would happen. It wasn’t right, I know that, but why would a person explain those things to someone who was supposed to be a no strings attached partner?”
