And she didn’t want the two young Knights left to deal with it.
Varuna nodded when Lucasta indicated that they would scout the area and give them some cover to power down. It would be easier to stay undetected once they split up.
“We will be fine,” she reassured Alastor and took a step back to stay beside Lucasta.
Sessrumnir was quick to make his way back to the others, glad that they had Lucasta and Varuna there to help them with the things they didn’t want the boys to see. One day they would be ready to handle the unfortunate outcome of many fights in this war, but they were already clearly shaken up and deserved some time to recover.
Ephesus didn’t seem like he was injured, but the way Amarynthos fussed over him, and the way Ephesus was clearly shaken, and Lucasta suggesting that they both rest, there was likely more that happened before they’d arrived.
He gave a look to Alastor once they made eye contact, clearly an indicator that there was something they’d need to make sure the boys were comfortable talking to them about, but he figured that could wait until they were on their way home, or safely at home even.
“Thank you. We’ll head out of the park before powering down,” he nodded again to the Mauvian and Varuna, staying positioned next to the two young Knights in a way that was clearly meant to defend them if something else happened.
Ephesus was relieved that his dads were there. Relieved that they got help from Lucasta and Varuna. They and Amarynthos had saved his life, and he didn’t know how to repay them. He would do his best to be a good Knight, though. He didn’t want anyone to have to worry about him or put their lives at risk for him.
With another glance and little wave of thanks to Varuna and Lucasta, Ephesus scrubbed his eyes and face and held tightly to Amarynthos’ hand as they started on their way home.
