He couldn’t help but laugh softly when Devyn listed out how horrible the night had gone so far, at least in terms of everyone getting to sleep.
And maybe, in a way, Michael was humbled a bit by Devyn’s strength as he was gently lowered into the bed.
He knew Devyn was strong, not just physically. But maybe it was because he’d seen how thin and malnourished he’d been almost a year ago that he didn’t see the gradual changes as Devyn became healthier.
Devyn’s hands smoothing his hair sent goosebumps down his arms, and there was only some modest hesitation when Devyn opened his arms to him, before Michael inched closer.
The things Devyn said -- surely he’d read it somewhere. Not many people said things like that and actually meant it, but with Devyn, well… Michael’s fluttering heart believed Devyn meant every word he said.
So Michael moved close and allowed Devyn to wrap his arms around him as he pressed his face and cold nose against Devyn’s neck.

Devyn inhaled sharply when the cold nose pushed into his neck, but there wasn’t alarm there, just surprise. For all that his heart could have hurt, it didn’t. It had caught him off guard, but not unpleasantly. The sensation was familiar, but different, and such a silly little thing filled him with more joy than he could articulate. It probably wouldn’t have made sense, anyway; for all the effort he put into not comparing Michael and Percy, he couldn’t help it, now.
It wasn’t anything bad. It brought back happy memories. It made another one.
He smiled, and he laughed quietly before he reached for the blankets to pull up and over them.
“Michael, your nose is frigid. You’d best stay close so you don’t catch a cold.”
Devyn always ran warm, so as soon as he felt that cold nose, he felt the need to gather Michael a little closer. Just to be safe.
