Riya stood frozen in place, her hold on Eirex enough so that he couldn't get down and risk being in the same situation. She didn't actually move to do anything until the pair were on solid ground again.

She moved closer, her eyes glued to Reaghan, and she did her best to ignore what Eirex had said. Her other son wasn't moving. "Ergon?" She questioned, though her voice was wobbly.

Watching hurt. She felt helpless. Useless. And if she felt that way then she knew Eirex did too. So she set the other boy down and turned him so that he faced her. "Eirex. I need you to go get branches and sticks and things to use for a fire. Reaghan and Daddy are cold and need to be warm. Can you do that?" If she gave him a task to focus on then he might not panic or it would at least be held off until they were sure of Reaghan's condition and he could get the full attention he needed.

He was unaware of anything that happened. His mind had gone blank and everything had stopped for him. Too cold to function.

However, his dad had been right about him taking in water and it needed to come out. With air being forced into his lungs it would also need to go out and with it would come water. At first it just bubbled to his mouth but then it was choking him so he coughed and sputtered. His body jerked with the action but it was getting rid of what wasn't supposed to be there.

With air came some clarity. His mind slowly came to and he tried to open his eyes. It hurt though so he only peeked at his dad for a second before closing his eyes again. At least he was breathing though.

Ergon jumped a little when the water started to bubble out of Reaghan's mouth. He turned Reaghan just enough to help the water come out better, and seeing even a peek of those golden eyes made his own well up with tears. "Reaghan.." he panted out with relief through an exhausted smile. It would be okay.

He looked over at his coat, but it was still far out on the ice near where they had gone through, the hem flapping slightly against the ice from the wind. The long coat was ideal, but was useless out there. He swung his head back to look at Riya. "He needs you... Open your coat.." He sat Reaghan up and pulled off the soaked coat and sweater. He just knew that a warm body would help Reaghan best.

Panicking was easy. Not panicking... well, Eirex could feel his heart thudding against his chest with fear. Then his mother gave him an assignment. He looked at her blankly for a moment, trying to comprehend what she was saying. Warm! They needed warm!

He straightened his back, clenched his hands, and raised his chin into a determined posture. "I'll get it," he assured. With a task to focus on, he spun and ran for the trees. His legs felt heavy, but he pushed through. They needed his help, and by Chi he was going to help!

He picked up every stick that he possibly could. Most of it was wet from the melting snow, but he just grabbed it all. Some of it was sure to be dry enough, and they would need a really big fire!

When Eirex confirmed that he would be able to get it she nodded at him. She watched him go back to the trees and made sure he was within eye sight. "Stay where I can see you please!" She called out to him just to be sure.

When she heard the cough and sputter of Reaghan she turned to look at him, relief flooding her tear filled eyes. Of course her attention went to Ergon when he spoke to her. She nodded her head and undid the buttons on her coat. But her coat was form fitting, no room for another body in it. So she shimmied out of it and had plans to lay Reaghan against her chest and cover him with the coat instead.

She moved closer and made a gimmie motion with her hands, her coat dangling from one. "Hand him here." She would take him gently before wrapping him up but she looked at her husband worriedly. "Eirex is going to get some firewood. Hopefully some of it is useable." She eyed his coat but it was on the ice and she was not willing to risk anyone else to fetch it. It was just too bad they'd left Hugs at home or else he might have been able to trot right over to it.

With consciousness came the realization that everything hurt. Being numb wasn't so bad but the pieces that weren't quite there yet almost burned. At least he'd stopped shivering now though. (Not that that was a good sign.)

He heard muffled voices near him but couldn't pick out words and he barely felt when he was moved around. The only thing he really took notice of was when something warm slipped around him. It made him open his eyes and look before he closed them again. Reaghan thought he saw his mom but couldn't be sure since his eyes still stung.

Now that there was a sign that Reaghan was alive, the adrenaline started to drop. Ergon's trembling was rough when he handed the boy into Riya's waiting arms. It was miserable, but shaking was a better sign than being completely still; though he didn't doubt that would be coming soon enough for him.

He glanced at Riya and nodded slightly. He had an amazing family... He couldn't lose them... In the far distance of his mind, he could hear his own mother screaming with the terror and pain that only a parent could know...

He glanced around to see if there was a better spot for shelter, but the rolling hills were all open space until the trees. He could see Eirex scampering around with arms full of sticks and felt the urge to laugh. Of course, breathing alone was painful right now. "Should get out of the open," he managed to say, wincing as he shifted his stiff body around to get onto his knees. The worst was past, but he still needed to fight.

Eirex was overloaded by now, waddling and turning with exaggerated steps so that he could peer around the wood pile he had collected. "I got it," he huffed out, dropping the stack with a clatter near his family. His eyes were quickly on Reaghan.. Was Riya trying to warm him up? Was that a good sign?

He paused and looked at his father. Seeing the normally strong man in this condition was shocking, to say the least. Everything about this situation was shocking. Like everyone else, his eyes slipped over to the lone coat out on the ice... but even he wasn't about to go out there for it. Instead, he took a deep breath and unbuttoned his coat. "Daddy.. you can have this." He stepped forward and laid the coat over Ergon's shoulders as much as he could. If it was good for his twin, then surely it would be good for their father.

His focus was back on the sticks though. Mother said they needed a fire. His work was only half done!

With Reaghan in her arms she brought him to her chest, shivering slightly at the cold she felt. His wet hair would get her clothes damp but she didn't mind. With him there she put her coat over him and held him tight, sharing her body warmth with him. Thankfully the wind wasn't blowing too badly.

At Ergon's mention of getting out of the open she nodded her head at him and moved. She looked back at Ergon to make sure he was able to follow. Of course with her hands full she wouldn't be able to help him much.

A soft smile hit her face as she saw Eirex trying to help his dad. "Sweetie, put your coat back on. Its cold and you need it." She would figure something out for Ergon. She pointed a finger at his pile of sticks. "Can you find me the driest ones, Sweetheart? We'll use them to start a fire."

Reaghan slipped back into unconsciousness when he felt his cheek rest up against his mother. He couldn't stay awake. He was tired. His body ached in some places and he couldn't feel it in others.

The last thing he remembers before slipping to sleep was the ruble of his dad's voice not too far away so he missed the sound of his mother's voice echoing under his ear.

Ergon felt the barest warmth in his chest when he noticed Eirex's coat. Such a good boy. It gave him a small boost so that he could get to his feet and held the coat back out. The fabric slipped from his trembling fingers though, a growl of frustration rising through clenched teeth when it hit the ground. "Sorry," he tried to say, though it sounded more like a hiss than a word.

He shoved burning fingers under his arms, if for nothing more than to hide them from sight as he shuffled back up the shallow hill. Clear some space, make a fire.. They could use something to heat up the snow for warm water to drink.

How long would they be sitting out here though? He looked over at Riya and Reaghan. The boy needed help fast. "Riya. Take him to town. He can't wait." He and Eirex could get a fire started, but he would only slow them down if they tried moving together.

Eirex frowned when he was told to put the coat back on. He lowered his gaze and nodded silently, plucking the coat up from the ground to pull it back on. It was a little damp from his father's clothes, but he couldn't tell with his sweater on. He set about sifting through the stack of wood he'd collected. The wood that was dry earned a smile while the damp wood earned a scowl and got tossed away. He was left with a decent amount and hurried after his parents as they headed for the trees. His digging and scurrying had already cleared some of the snow, so he went on ahead to start setting up the sticks for the fire.

She watched for a bit at how Eirex seemed upset that he couldn't share. She understood that. Riya only had the one coat and couldn't give another to her husband. But a fire would be good.

When she heard Ergon mention that Reaghan couldn't wait she glanced down at their unconscious son and frowned. The idea of leaving the other two didn't sit well but her husband had a point. Reaghan couldn't really wait too long for help. He needed to be warmed up and looked over by a healer.

She stared at Ergon for a second. "Are you sure? You cannot go to sleep, Darling. Eirex needs you." It made her worry even more to think that Ergon might fall over and give in to the cold and leave their other son without anyone. The thought to take both kids with her crossed her mind but that would leave Ergon alone. "I'll stop by the house and send Hugs to you. I'll tell him to hunt you down. He has body warmth to share." The perzi was good at hunting and he understood commands.

Reaghan could feel the palms of his hands burning but the tips of his fingers were numb. In the fog of his brain he wondered if he still had them. A shuddered breath was pulled in as he tried to move his body, stretch it out somewhat. He felt some parts but not others.

The worry from that irrational thought made him come out of the sleep so that he could flutter his eyes open a bit and look at things. He saw his dad but his vision was blurred and tinted black on the edges so he looked odd.

All Ergon wanted to do was curl up into a ball, but he forced himself to keep pacing as Eirex set up the fire. Riya's warning made him look over with concern. He knew his chances were already slim, but if he was left completely alone? Then again, if he did end up unable to help Eirex if the need came up... Yet, he couldn't start the fire on his own in his current state. How long would he be able to stay awake whether or not Eirex was there?

"Once he gets the fire started.. I can feed it, but I need him to start it. He'll be right behind you." He heard a squeak of protest from the side. "Don't argue, Eirex." He said as firmly as he could through clattering teeth. "I need you to keep your mother and Reaghan safe." He aimed a look back at Riya and attempted to nod. "Go."
