A laugh actually left Pounamu’s lips at the sudden question. “I suppose it’s only natural to wonder, right? Like do you eat? We definitely eat. I enjoy berries when I sneak up on land and I do eat a lot of other things in the ocean. Oysters are really yummy.” She blinked her bi-colored gaze actually full of amusement as she realized that the other girl had seemed flustered to ask about such things.

A slight flush decorated Quiana’s cheeks. “It was a silly question, wasn’t it?” She admitted with a small laugh. “Though you did consider me a spirit at first.” She teased before moving along, the brushes rustling against her hips as she walked forward into a more grassy area that marked their departure from the beach. “I enjoy berries as well. Fish are definitely nice as long as they’re smoked properly over a fire for flavor. Some of the Sisters prefer them raw but I like most things cooked, especially if they can be made into sweets like a pie.” Now that she truly enjoyed.

“Pie sounds interesting.” Pounamu admitted as she trudged along, the strange feeling of dirt beneath her feet an adjustment from the soft warmth of the sandy beach. “I haven’t had much pie...but the one time it was really yummy. I can understand why you would like it.” Admittedly she did eat a few things well...raw she supposed. It was hard to cook underwater after all. The very thought made her smile shyly. It truly was a different experience to be on the land!

“If you need to linger for a few days then I would gladly share some pie or other treats with you.” Admittedly Quiana with a small grin. She wanted to tempt the girl to stay longer simply because she was curious about her culture. Maybe along the way she could keep offering more information about her own culture and the delicious things that landwalkers enjoyed to entice Pounamu more. It would be a shame to separate friends but at the same time Quiana truly was invested in learning more about these strange races.

Pounamu felt her gaze widen at the offer. Would she truly share some sweets? The hybrid found herself biting her lower lip thoughtfully. It would be really nice to rest after swimming for the last few days and the earlier fall had truly worn her down. Pounamu closed her eyes and shook her head after another moment. Could she truly let Naia be alone for much longer? “If only I could. Maybe once I find Naia though I can come back?” She finally offered almost hopefully as she peeked towards the Elidae. Hopefully she wasn’t insulted that she had declined such a generous offer?

“We’ll see if I’m still around by then.” Teased Quiana with a sly grin as she turned away and started leading the hybrid further along the path, the hike becoming more uphill by the moment as they started crossing into more of a forested area. “We’ll have to be careful of wild animals here but eventually it’ll open up into a stream so you can...rehydrate.” She advised quietly, her attention taken by the trees as she kept an eye out for them.

“Ah, okay.” Pounamu felt disappointed but she still wanted to hold onto her resolve. Naia definitely trumped any sweets! Most definitely! Eventually she would get to try all of the landwalker snacks and the like once she found her friend. That was their goal to travel after all. “Sounds good. I should be okay for a few hours more. I brought a flask of water with me as well that should last.” She offered as she followed along. “Are the islands really large? Most of the people I’ve spoken with stayed around the shores and haven’t actually crossed by walking across land before.” It was far easier to just swim around for her kind.

“It’s smaller than the ones that my ancestors came from apparently.” Replied Quiana with a shrug. “Some islands take weeks to cross but this one in particular should only take a day or so. We’re at the edge so it’s narrow here but if we went the other way…” Here she gestured towards the west. “It may take a few days or even more than a week to cross.” Not that she was great with directions but that was the rough estimate she had based on other encounters and her own experiences.

“Oh.” Pounamu blinked thoughtfully. Maybe she would have to linger around to truly explore the whole island? She bit her bottom lip as she pondered her options. What did she do? “If I don’t find my friend by the time we get to the other shore….may I consider those sweets then?” It would give her more time to explore at least before she dove and went towards the next underwater settlement.

“Sure!” Quiana grinned, her expression almost too delighted with the suggestion. “We’ll make certain to look around and I can find a spot with a pool for you so that you can relax while I get some snacks to share.” Surely that would be easy enough. The Elidae nodded as she planned everything out. Her grandmother could help get supplies for them and as long as she stayed away from the main encampment it would surely be fine to spend some time with Pounamu. It was beneficial to both of them, right? The one girl could rest up and eat while Quiana gained all the information that she could from her. Quiana’s gaze was bright as she started to walk more briskly forward with Pounamu trailing behind her.
