The Boys Are Back In Town
Name: Avid_RPer18
Prefs: 1, 3, 2
Pony Name: Paion Nes'tirak (Answers to Paion or Nes, though Nes tends to be used more informally)
Meaning: Paion is Greek for "healer", Nes'tirak is a misc fantasy name w/ no meaning
Desired Rank: Herbalist
Personality: A quiet and observant fellow, Paion has a pretty large personal space requirement. Not that he's a large male, his fraught health as a youngster has caused him to be a slight stallion. He's a touch on the anxious side, which causes him to be very cautious and alert. Funny enough, this manifests in odd ways when he's working, or could be sort of innate territoriality manifesting. His herb stashes/growing beds are no go zones. Permission only, or request if he can retrieve things for you, Anything else will result in him laying into the offender, or chasing them off before returning and making accounts of things. If he's working with someone one on one, they can be in his work space, but everyone else will be required to keep their distance. Privacy, respect, and confidentiality is important when it comes to health and personal problems. He can be a touch on the prickly side, but he really does mean well and wants to keep those who may find themselves in his care tended to and on their way to health. It takes a good bit for him to let down his guard, but he's got the makings of a truly devoted friend/ally/etc.
History: For Paion's earliest days, his world was very small. It was just his mother and himself. She was the last of one of the many splintered remnants of the main herd. Her mate, Paion's father, hadn't survived the war. Paion was on the small, frail side as a foal and she did everything she could to comfort and strengthen her son when he was feeling ill/out of sorts. All her herb craft, medical knowledge of tending to injuries or illness, dealing with venoms or poisons as needed, and stories and beliefs of their long lost home were poured into his curious young mind. It was a struggle at times, but Paion grew and matured into a young stallion. In time, he found himself alone in the world.

With spring...springing, the lone stallion had been seeing plenty of new fledgling birds, new life abounding around him in his travels. Of course, with new, easier prey, sometimes life and nature happened. Passing through a woodland treeline, Paion became aware of the sound of distressed cries. Following the sound, he spied two foals worriedly chattering over something in the long grass of the adjacent grassland. The tone didn't sound like fear, more like concern or stress. He drew closer, making a point to alert the youngsters to his presence so as to not startle them.
They were wary, but didn't seem outrageously put off or surprised by his appearance. He asked what was stressing them so. They explained that they saw a hawk grab a rabbit the late yesterday morning and that they had found the little baby bunnies bunnies in a burrow. The two foals didn't look to have any features for any sort of hunter/predator feeding, so that suggestion was tossed immediately, nor would he volunteer to help 'take care' of them for the pair. Too much in poor taste for the stressed out youngsters. Paion asked to see this burrow. The bunnies were certainly small, though not the small, naked things he had pictured from the dismayed carrying on that drew him here. Sniffling the pair asked what they should do. The kittens looked just south a two months old, a bit young to be without their mother, but they could nibble grasses and things. Without her, their chances at long term survival were less...
Humming thoughtfully, Paion asked if the foals wanted to try to help the little ones. Their emphatic answers came immediately. Okay. He offered to show them some plants or herbs that were native to the area that would be more nutrient dense than the grasses that surrounded the burrow to help the baby bunnies possibly get where they need to be. One of the siblings asked to stay to keep an eye on their assumed wards, and the elder of the two offered to go see what they'd need. Leading the way to a few of the places these better quality plants would grow, Paion made sure to explain how they'd help the rabbits and what to do to collect the herbs, how best to get the bunnies to eat them. After walking through collecting a good sized herb bundle, when walking back the foal looked up to him curiously.
"Did you come from where that scaly, fanged lady came from? I didn't see her, but I heard my papa describing her. She looked like you do! He said that 'there's a nest of serpents in that jungle'. Something about ruins? Did you come from there?"
That inquiry really grabbed his attention. There were other Wind Serpents who had survived, that were living together? His heart and mind raced at the possibilities. He probed for any more information, at least to try to feel out direction or maybe number of days. The kiddo didn't know how far out but did give him a direction. It wasn't much, but it was something for him to pursue, to at least see this was actually true. Getting back to the burrow, he showed the two foals what to do and bade them farewell.
It took him some time, but he keep an ear out for further whispers of others like himself and set to seeking out this herd. Having been raised on tales of his mother's herd and homeland, he wanted to see if he would be welcomed, if it would feel like home.
