Day # 30Theme: Pick a previous Unused theme (#23 Design Challenge: the exterior of a bakery) Time spent: 1.5h Comments: Had my three-monthy session at the chemo unit today, very glad I took my sketchbook because I was there for AGES! No colours today because I only took my fine liners with me.

Day # 31 Theme: Tiger Time spent: 2h Comments: Thought I'd have a go at drawing a Tiger's Eye gemstone. Didn't think ahead to what a complete nightmare it would be to make it glow and shine like the real ones do. Came out ok, could really do with about another 5 layers of ink but I've run out of time!

Day # 32Theme:Toucan Time spent: 1.5h + three horrible sketches Comments: Took me ages to get the beak to eye proportion right. Quite enjoyed myself once I got the lines done. It's not often that I enjoy the colouring more than the lines.

Day # 35Theme: Spirit Challenge (part 2) Time spent: 1.5h Comments: Didn't get as long as I'd hoped to draw today but I did manage to get 3/4's of my sketches inked. Will spend tomorrow finishing up the inking and colouring. The colours never seems to take as long.

Day # 36Theme: Spirit Challenge (part 3) Time spent: 3h+ Comments: I'm having one of those days. I slept badly and my back feels like someone is practicing ninja kicks in the middle of it, the shopping delivery forgot my broccoli (that's the BEST veggie!) and then my pen ran out crying My favourite brown pen! And I can't buy a new one locally so I'm going to have to order one online and it'll be days. Anyways. Despite being scuppered by promarker #0727 Caramel (which was supposed to be the base for bear AND backpack) I have muddled through with boring browns. I hope I've done enough to qualify for the challenge. Niamh has decided that this looks just like her and she's stealing it as soon as I'm finished with it rolleyes I think it was the stick that gave it away. Niamh with one of many adventure sticks. She never leaves home without one!

Day # 39 Theme: Riches Time spent: 1h Comments: Wasn't feeling inspired today, so I googled 'riches' to get some ideas. Came across a pretty cool artist Adam Riches who makes portraits by scribbling and I thought 'I can do that'. Turns out it's not nearly as easy as he makes it look. And biro smells funny!

Day # 40Theme: Finish/improve an earlier work from this event (Day 17 Design Challenge: Recreate a fairytale in your own style) Time spent: 2h Comments: So, I've been watching tutorials where they shade in greyscale before putting the flat colour on. Not sure it translates so well to traditional media. There seems to be a BIG tonal difference between the three lightest (warm grey 1, 2 and 3) and two darkest greys (warm grey 4 and 5) in my set. They also refuse to layer, which is weird because with all the colours you can build up the saturation by layering the same colour a few times. Whilst I'm not entirely happy with the end result it has given me a better idea of where I need to concentrate the light when I do a full glorious technicolour version later, so not a wasted afternoon.

Day # 43 Theme: Pi Day Time spent: 1h Comments: I thought it would be cool to make art out of Pi. Turns out all it does is give you massive eye strain and make you realise that you should have picked a better font before you got all arty on it. Gives me a whole new respect for people who make ascii art. Next year I'm going to MAKE pie.

Day # 44Theme: Clams Time spent: 3h +googling Comments: Bit off more than I could chew today! Spent far too long googling Giant Clams. I am now substantially wiser when it comes to clams. Did you know that they don't eat? They have algae inside them that photosynthesis all the energy that they need so they basically just lie in the sun and get fat. And they're on the endangered species list because people like to take their shells and turn them into extremely expensive sinks. SINKS! To wash your hands in. Stupid rich people. And apparently they're very tasty. Anyways. I'm pooped, I finished a bit less than half but I'm done. I might finish this when I get some time to myself. If the kids ever go back to school.....
