Martirae of Gold Anakumath

Being roused from slumber by hatching eggs was something Marty had thought she would have grown out of by now - and she'd thought perhaps she was feeling too bitter to really have much excitement in her veins. But with Anakumath, both of those things remained untrue. The young gold shifted on her ledge, excited purples and blues whirling in her eyes as she rose upon her ledge. It would be due time to see the miracle of life for the first time herself.

At least, as an onlooker. Something that she would be many times in her life.

"Early mornings must run in High Reaches," Martirae noted idly, pulling her blanket around her shoulders and stepping out onto the gold's ledge. She ran her fingers idly across her well oiled hide - something even now she didn't neglect. "I'll get ready - and do tell Venandith that I'd not mind if Zyamel was awake to join me," she bid. "And you should find a nice ledge to watch from, hmm?"

There was no doubt with whom the gold would nestle in, of course. Of course, my love, Anakumath nudged Marty's face affectionately, then gently dropped from her ledge. It would be but a small glide over to find a proper perch. But as she found one to settle on, she made her arrangements; Venandith, Mine would like the company of yours, if she wishes to be up and watch of course. Elzebuth, my dear, I hope you will come sit with me? There was nothing but oozing warmth in her tone as she settled in to look upon the eggs Zenobiath tended to so carefully.

It is an honor to get to see your little ones go and find theirs, Zenobiath. I should think they will have their mother's beauty and their father's strength, at her last words, she also pulled Aresoth into her beaming praise. How wonderful of a night it was to be them!

Marty, on the other hand, took some time to pull on some proper attire in her usual favored colors before descending from her weyr to join those who would be watching - for what felt like the first time, really.

Danzik and Green Eosphoth

Danzik and Eosphoth settled with the other Candidatemasters to survey the candidates, knowing fully well some of those from Western may never come home again - at least not soon if they wished to. She could spot some familiar dragons up in the stands even now that had chosen kids she had once worked with and known. That shiny golden hide of Martirae's lifemate made her ponder of her son - and his suddenly changing future.

There would be a lot of those today, and she would keep them in line.

They will do fine - you are here. A'ral is here, and High Reaches has theirs as well, the dainty green looked at the two bronzeriders curiously. How funny they all must have looked to those from the more traditional Weyr right then.

It would be fine, though.

-------

Kinyegele

Kinye had been sleeping oh so soundly. It was hard to be a little girl being excited all day, and while sleep didn't come easily when one was that way...it still eventually came. It had felt like she'd only been sleeping for a moment when the humming had come. The call of more responsible parties to urge them onto their feet. It had taken the sleepy girl a moment, even as her two firelizards balanced on her knees.

"I know, Canvas...you go find mom okay?" she paused a moment to squint at her little blue as well, "and you go with him to keep him out of trouble, okay Ebauche?" she reached out to give both of her boys a little scritch on the head, waiting until they'd blinked away to stand. Then, alone without them the excitement hit her all at once again. Oh!

It would be time! Would Lump of Coal find theirs without problem? Who would Santa be? Scrunching up her face in a bit smile, Kinye could have squealed with excited delight. But it wasn't time for that! No, she needed to find.....robe! And shoes! Both of them this time! "I hope they're as nice on the outside too," she hummed to herself as she changed, double checking her sandals again before she joined the throng of candidates on their way out.

First she would find...."Lusisalu? Lusialu!" Kinye half called for the other girl, hoping that perhaps they would be able to stand together once they were outside. It would be very nice - and she would have so liked to soothe the other girl's nerves a little if she could!

Kahbrohm

He'd been sleeping well enough for an excited candidate - even if he'd not had the lull of expectation to keep him half awake, it would have been impossible to sleep thru the din of everybody getting up and running about to get ready. His confidence kept him from being too worried, however. Sure that one hadn't been his. What a shame for that dragon, really, to have chosen a less fine boy...but perhaps one of these would know quality when they saw it. Yes, he was sure they would.

A very certain and cocky smile had already split his face by the time he'd muscled through some of the less rushed candidates to make his way out onto the sands - bow to parents, yada yada...it was all important, sure, but he wanted to be out there where whichever baby dragon would find him and that would be that.

Kahbrohm didn't miss the utter nerves that radiated off another candidate, however, and he couldn't help himself from grabbing the back of Chakuri's neck. "Calm down, if you vibrate too hard you'll not be here if one wants you," hmph. Like he knew.

Dorok

Dorok's heart had been in nervous twists and tatters ever since the touching. It had been all he could do to focus tightly on what was in front of him, instead of looming over him like a sword that threatened to sever his head from his body - and it had done the trick. It had kept him from thinking too hard about what was wrong inside of him to cause a small baby to fear him with just a look. It had kept him from wondering if he would find a dragon that wanted him this day and what it would mean for his future. Would his ambitions die there on the sands? Would be care if they did?

He smothered his worries away, focusing instead on getting ready with the others, his mind torn between the daze of sleep and the promise of a potential lifechanging future on the sands. Would he be ready for whatever change it was? He wanted to be.

There was only so ready one could get, and with his robe on it was time for some grounding himself in familiarity - listen to instructions, greet parents, join the others on the sands. He squared his shoulders proudly as he joined the growing throng of candidates. If his eyes lingered on some longer than others, it was in the most mild of judgements he could offer before Dorok spotted a familiar boy - "Dehka!" he didn't quite call out, but spoke loud enough to hopefully be heard by his fellow weyrbrat as he joined him.

Perfect company, really.

Juhvek

Time, time, time again. Juhvek had done this enough times to know his times were almost out - this one and maybe one more was it. It was the first time his heart had panged with almost regret about the idea. But, he wouldn't let worrying about being on a dragon dictate how he behaved today. He would not be desperate. He had better things - people - to worry about than if a dragon ever chose him or not.

Robe on, sandals on - it was all second nature by now and then it was off after the others to amble onto the sands. Scanning the groups carefully, he settled not far from Oranie and Elibrie, gesturing both young girls over. It would be better that way, right?

Then, he turned his attention to another younger candidate he'd taken to recently - Nalacko. "As ready as I can be after so long," and both Gr'del and F'dral had done well to instill it into them by now. "Are you ready?"

Fahn

Fahn hadn't been sleeping, but that wasn't a surprise when it came to that girl. Laying in her cot had been more or less a formality after about two or three hours and as such she'd been all but half dressed and out the barrack doors before their summoning had been finished. There were! Baby dragons! To go see!!!!! So eager was she, she almost bypassed all of her greetings to join those candidates who were already on the sands.

She'd been halfway to them before she'd backpedaled to go through the motions the others were - then it was back ahead of the pack again. "They're hatching - oh! I wonder what they'll all be! And look like!" How exciting!

Fahn likely could have started to fly with his much she seemed to shake from side to side in anticipation.

Niika

It was late - later than any visitor should have been there really...but there she was, back to High Reaches. She'd sworn to move forward, but here she was, sitting in front of another clutch of eggs that would never want her. However, a certain edge to the bitterness Niika had felt about being left behind was numbed away at least. Now she sat, waiting to see what these ones would become.

And not to see the man who was helping prepare for the new Weyrlings off around the corner and out of sight. There was no reason to deny he'd been the reason for her visit in the first place and perhaps there would be more time for them to talk later when everything was over.

Yes, that sounded nice. For now, she'd wait to see what happened. Perhaps next to-

Alosha had found herself a nice seat front and center where she could keep an eye on Juhvek - and also everything going on. "Hi!" she greeted the young woman who took a seat next to her before looking back to her hurriedly scribbled notes.

They would be something soon! Really something!! How exciting was that?

orri - he/him

Things kept Orri up at night lately, more than usual. A worrier by nature, his thoughts had swirled from topic to topic as he considered his position in the weyr, in the barracks, with F'enn and how he had been these last few sevenday. And if it wasn't those, it was dreaming of his mauling at the double clutch and fingering the scars again when he woke up in a cold sweat. Maybe he was being too sensitive.

Things just seemed...harder, somehow, than they were when he had first come to High Reaches. Orri had come in with a dream of bronzeriding in his heart, a boundless adoration for his father, and just the one friend in Dehka. Now his social circle had expanded somewhat, he was becoming more keenly aware of his father's...ways with other women, and his dream was starting to sound...He didn't want to say silly. Dragonriding was the most important thing anyone on Pern could hope to achieve. A bronze would surely let Orri help to the best of his ability as Herg'r did now. But was a bronze his only option at this weyr of metallic reign? Hadn't he loved Zezollath so dearly she might have Impressed him as well? He had avoided talking about his hopes to F'enn for a number of reasons--there were so many things he hadn't talked to him about--but now Orri wondered if that had been a mistake. If he hadn't been making quite a few recently.

While lying awake and pondering, he heard the humming begin and felt his heart drop into his stomach. Too late to get lost in his worrying now.

...

On the sands, as per usual, he gravitated to Dehka, smiling his usual smile, sweating his usual pre-Hatching sweats. Somehow his braid still looked kempt despite his shaky fingers, covering his torn ear and scarred shoulder. "When it happens at night, it's like a dream, don't you think?" he said. "...That's silly, isn't it. It's very real. But still."

Orri's mouth just went on before his mind could really filter, it seemed. His head had been in so many places before, and now that he was gathering them back together to project peace and welcome for the eggs, he felt almost light-headed. Or maybe that was the sleep deprivation.

"Oh! Dorok, right?" he greeted the other candidate, flipping through his memory's catalogue of past chores. If nothing else, Orri's mind for all things dragonriding and tangential to dragonriding remained intact. "Were you able to sleep? I couldn't. Little too excited."

mel - she/her

Mel did not want to wake up, but she did. Mel did not want to get dressed, but she did. Mel did not want to fight a comb in the middle of the night, but she did. The things she did for baby dragons.

Stifling a yawn, she did her stage bows to the parents when the line moved up far enough, her hair done back in a long if still ratty looking ponytail. It was hard to tell if the baggy eyed look was from being groggy or from smeared dashes of makeup--but then, the smears seemed to fit Melisyn just fine. Intentionally even. 'Sup, eggs, she seemed to say. Let's get ready to party.

Her demeanor looked relaxed, though her chest was tight with growing excitement.

And while Mel could party well on her own, why do that when she could drag some friends into it? An arm went over Kaiator's shoulders as she brought him into a loose side hug, a lazy smile on her face. "Hold on, ya got somethin'," she lied, licking her fingers before smoothing down some of his hair. "There ya go~ Nice n' handsome."

Following his gaze, Mel then beckoned with her free hand to Haveli. "C'mon! Best seats in the house here."

dhawsn - he/him

Rumors were nasty things he oftend tried to ignore, but they were hard to avoid when stuck in place. Still, they made things easier for Dhawsn when it came to singling out the candidates he wanted to reach out to, as was his wont. Caring for strangers was practically his side job at this point, even though exactly zero people had asked.

On the sands, he scooted to Miela casually as he could, radiating nothing but his characteristic doof and dadness. He might have been a sun compared to her stone, attempting to exude light to banish the clouds threatening around her. "This your first?" he asked by way of breaking the ice. "Me, I bet they was tryna pick it so they'd break at dawn, the babes." Nevermind that they might not have known what that was.

The dragons were humming, the Candidates were gathered, and the crowd was quickly filling the sands. Though the hour was late, no one could deny the excitement within the warm Hatching grounds. Braziers and torches had been lit outside in the Bowl with a hopes of keeping the weyrlings warm. Being winter, they didn't wish to risk the newly--the dragonets, of course, could withstand the temperature without issue, but it was their newly-Impressed companions who would be far more susceptible. But this wasn't the first winter Hatching, nor would it be the last, and High Reaches was well prepared to keep their people comfortable. Tables were set up, and workers were bringing out tub after of chopped herdbeast; others had buckets of oil prepared. Once the eggs started to hatch, things could well happen fast.

Within the Hatching Grounds, where it was substantially warmer and far more comfortable for the spectators and hopefuls, the eggs remained still. But finally, one brave egg began to shake. Shake, shake, shake.

Wibble.

Wobble.

The Holly Egg had begun to rock back and forth--hesitantly at first, as if to test it out. Such hesitation didn't last long though, as the egg suddenly began to shake much more forcefully. Someone in their was either having fun--or was desperate to get out.

Yllaei/Journeyman Baker/Her (Standidate)

The brown haired woman was sleeping in her bed, when she felt the tugging on her hair. She opened one of her blue eyes to see what was going on, when she saw it was Spice Muffin. She was just about to remind her little green flit how rude it was to wake a person without a good reason, when Yllaei caught the distinct sound of the dragons humming. Ah, so it was time for the new group of hatchlings to come from their eggs and find their riders. Well, she had been told the kitchen would have it handled a few days ago when she had wondered about it, so she should go enjoy the hatching this time. So she got up and began to get dressed, in no hurry as she had been when she was a candidate. The woman wanted to make sure everything was done the same way it always was. Once ready, she headed out of her living quarters and towards the hatching. Once there, she climbed into the stands and sat down, looking as all the candidates gathered below. She remembered the feeling of the sands on her feet like it was yesterday.

"Be sure to tell our friends where we are,"Yllaei told her flit calmly, who blinked out of sight to go deliver the message to them.

Demanthra and Green Monath

Demanthra had risen from her bed as soon as Monath and the other dragons had begun humming. She got dressed as quickly as she could, knowing her beloved green was already up and ready to go. Once finished, she headed to her dragon and allowed the green to take her down to the candidate barracks. As soon as they had arrived, she began to help the others in getting the candidates up and towards the hatching sands. It might be the middle of the night, but it wasn't the first time they had had a hatching at this time and it wouldn't be the last. She felt Monath's nerves, but she reminded her dragon that Zenobiath and Aresoth had this handled. She then walked with the rest of the group towards the hatching sands. Her eyes roamed over each candidate, making sure they were doing as they were supposed to do. She even checked on each of her siblings and Rhiyn who would be on the sands this day. A smile was sent in the direction of her two friends, who would be with their dragons for this special day.

Hmmph, does that old queen really not think my siblings know what they are doing? It isn't like hatchings have not happened in the middle of the night before,Monath grumbled into her rider's mind as she heard an older queen giving some 'advice.' Just as she was gearing up to tell that queen to mind her own business, her sister handled the situation.

See, you didn't have to get involved. Plus, what would Zeno have thought it you had?Demanthra thought to her green, feeling the other mentally sigh dramatically. She had used that line since they were Weyrlings and would continue to do so. Today they would make sure that no one caused any drama, not if they could help it. They had all gone over the rules with the candidates, to make sure there was not a repeat of last time. She felt Monath send some love in the way of Zenobiath and Aresoth, a smile on her lips.

You both look wonderful tonight, I will enjoy watching your little ones find their's. I will keep watch over them and the candidates, dear siblings,Monath sent to her gold and bronze clutchsibs fondly.

Zamistia and Brown Nanuth

Zamistia was sleeping peacefully next to F'nar, who she was still surprised they had finally admitted their feelings for one another. She would have slept peacefully until the sun came up, but the humming of Nanuth outside got her attention. She sat up straight, almost tumbling out of bed as she took in the sound. The newest clutch, of course, they must be ready to hatch, just as her brown and his family had been about a turn before. She got to her feet, shaking F'nar on her way to get herself dressed. Once she was done, she headed out to where Nanuth waited. She knew F'nar would follow as soon as he was awake and ready. She wanted to get there, so she could watch for her youngest sister and her friend, Nala. It didn't take long for the pair to get to the hatching and Nanuth dropped Misty at the entrance, before he headed up to perch near his golden sister he had spied.

I hope you do not mind some company, sister dear. I will make sure to be here, who knows some others may join us,Nanuth thought to Mictecath. He made sure to tell Bossuth and Yulaniath where they were, along with Neirinth for F'nar.

Meanwhile, Zamistia had found a good spot to sit, hoping that her friends would be joining her soon. She looked down to see all the candidates gathering below, to think she had been in their shoes a little more than a turn before. She made sure Nanuth sent a message down to her sister and Nala, to let them know they were here.

Candidate Heida -- HR -- she/her

Heida's beaming smile grew even wider as the first eggs started to move. She knew it wouldn't be long until the first one hatched and went to search for its lifemate on the sands. Humming along with the dragons, she continued to send happy, warm, welcoming thoughts to the hatchlings in the eggs. Hopefully one of them would be for her!

Candidate Tarroi -- HR -- he/him

Tarroi saw the eggs begin to shake with more deliberation and his heart lurched a little. No matter how many times he had seen it, a hatching was always something special, and it always got to him. He watched the eggs, hoping against hope one of them was his.

Candidate Trude -- Western -- she/her

Trude had never seen a Hatching, or dragon eggs, or a queen dragon up close (or as close as she was going to get to the proud mother Zenobiath). The girl was practically overcome with amazement, but she kept her focus on the eggs -- which had begun to move! Her eyes widened even further and she had to fight the urge to bounce on her toes with excitement. Calm thoughts, that's what she was supposed to be thinking. Calm, joyous (that one was easy), welcoming thoughts. Collecting herself, that's just what she did.

Haveli

Irritation tugged at Haveli's mind and lips as she was hailed not once nor twice, but three times by three vastly different individuals. Little Boy had gotten a bit of a smirk from her as she watched his nerves get the better of an attitude, and Mel's overfriendly antics with him would have gotten much the same were she not to have waved the woman over. It would have all been easy enough to ignore but then - came the voice she didn't like hearing inside her head.

It had been a Turn, a long and rough Turn with the last few months nothing but misery for random bouts, yet Haveli still wasn't sure how she openly and inwardly felt about her sister's dragon. It wasn't the fault of the white beast, if Haveli wished to be truly honest, but that didn't stop a dark wave of irritation from creeping into the calm waters as though someone had tossed a rock. Fine. It was short and dismissive and if Alegriath actually happened to hear it then good for her.

For now Haveli needed to get her thoughts back in order, as there was actual movement from the eggs now. Eggs she hadn't touched as the Touching had come to an abrupt end, if she recalled correctly, and so her eyes were turned towards them. Little Boy and Mel would be fine where they were at, they didn't really need her over with them.....except her feet softly had her moving among the back of the crowds to get closer. Eventually she was actually at the pair's side, and the way her cheeks pinkened ever so faintly gave more proof that she hadn't even thought to go over there. Perhaps this wasn't a bad thing.

Soui

You still have drool on your face. Museth's light teasing came as Soui dropped herself into a seat, and the dragon laughed gently as she felt her rider furiously try and rub at her mouth. It was a joke, love. A grumpy yawn from a never-morning-person was the only response given, and the teen rubbed at her eyes as she peered out at the Sands. It felt weird to think not too long ago she was out there - many of those she'd stood with where out there again.

Clasping her hands together she offered up silent hopes that this round would be so much better for them all. Naturally she'd heard the gossip over the events of the touching and all she could do was think and wish super hard the hatching went calmly.

-------

T'nus

The Second remained vigilant, watching the sands and the faces on them. How many of them would be repeats and come back to lessons tomorrow? How many would he see in his wing in the future, flying beside him? How many would not walk away at all...?

He had his thoughts, his own personal bets, but none of them were negative. T'nus would never wish harm on the candidates, only luck in the future.

To that Minimuth snorted but remained merrily watching as well. He had a weakness for hatchings, T'nus supposed, if only because that was one of the few times where he was larger than all the dragons. It was adorable.

Ryala

As the warmth of the Sands penetrated the soles of her thin sandals, Ryala's shivering slowly eased. Ah, to be warm again! Her attention was caught by a movement from a smallish egg, then by a larger, starry egg. Which would hatch first?

---------

Gwyn

Hmm... It didn't seem that they would be waiting for very long, at least. Watching as first one egg wobbled, then another, Gwyn eyed them speculatively. The larger of the two actually seemed to be annoyed, judging by that twitch. Well, maybe the occupant of that one didn't like being woken up, either. The smaller one was certainly dancing now!

----------

Avali

Oh... Oh! There was an egg rocking, first lightly, then with more energy. The movement of the larger egg caught the girl's attention as well, though it didn't seem as boisterous. The motions of the two made Avali think of a couple of kids, one getting more and more excited, and the other turning away from such antics.

A yawn escaped her, bringing her back to reality. Focusing on the smaller egg, she watched to see what would happen...

Yura

It was really, really weird to be watching from this angle. Yura had been dead asleep, face smooshed so far into his pillow it was as though he was eating it, when Nevidenth's happy calls had woken him up. The bronze was all about the new family that was coming to High Reaches, even though none of them were directly related to him. Or so Yura thought, yawning to himself that he needed to really brush up on the proper genealogy of all the dragons here. As a bronze rider that was probably the exact thing he needed to do and as soon as all of this was over he'd study up. Again. Probably. After a nice nap.

Mine, focus!! The eggs are rocking and what if it's a Gold that hatches first? She could be my girlfriend....which means you'd probably need to date her rider. The comment had Yura wide awake as he did a bit of mental whiplash over Nevidenth's comments. Before he could properly stutter a question or reply the bronze flooded his mind with warm laughter. You're awake now, right? Good, pay attention! This clutch deserves just as much from you as mine did, even if you're not actively participating. The scolding wasn't even serious but Yura nodded, cupping a hand over his mouth to stifle the yawn that threatened.

Not funny, but thank you as always.

Tuelarua - HR Candidate, She/Her/Hers

Had morning truly come so quickly? Though normally a very early riser, Tuela could only blink and try to clear her head as chaos ensued around her. The little paws of her firelizards bounding across her cot had her stirring more, feeling the thrum of her trio before registering the deep, melodic hum of dragons all around her. Was it truly time? It seemed only yesterday that the touching had.. happened.

More alert, Tuelarua stretched and made quick work of a comb through her hair. Learning from last time, she bound the deep red locks up in multiple loops. Shucking her night clothes for the slightly scratchy material of the candidate robes, sandals gently donned, she was ready to face yet another batch of the future defenders of Pern. At best? She would be walking back out of the hatching grounds with a lifemate. At worst? She would have a new batch of baby dragons to sketch and the possibility of standing for another clutch. As long as Tuela stayed alert on her feet and away from baby dragon claws and teeth, all would be fine.

Heeding F’dral’s kinder reminder, she stepped out with her fellow candidates to bow a greeting to Zenobiath and Aresoth. The eggs were shaking, and though she wanted to watch them from her vantage point, she could only look around to spy a familiar face or two -- and Rahmsii’s caught her attention first, with Miela right after.

Making her way to her short friend, she smiled at Rahmsii, taking him by the hand and leaning in to say over the din of humming -- “I saw Miela this way, come on.” By the hand, she was happy to find the young candidate who Tuelarua felt a touch protective over. The younger sibling she never had.

“Hi Miela, mind if we come stand by you?” Though she settled by the other candidate already, smiling at the other candidate warmly. No one she could place.. A Westerner perhaps? “Hi there. I’m Tuelarua.”

Ahula - HR Candidate - She/Her/Hers

Morning had come to the sounds of dragons humming. A sound that Ahula loved all her life, and this early call was no less different. She stumbled out of bed, bracing herself against her cot until she could wake up properly. Running a comb through her hair and drinking some water definitely helped, taking a sprinkling of water on her fingers to wash her face and tame her hair a bit flatter. Much better, much better.

Standing and stretching, trying to wake her muscles and mind up, the slight candidate changed into her candidate robes, idly smoothing the fabric down as she slipped the sandals on. There we go, much better.

Bowing to the great clutchparents, she moved off to the side of the clutch. Her hair falling a bit like a curtain, yet she could only look around for a familiar face…. and eventually found it in Urzoh.

Moving to catch up with her sleepy friend, Ahula brushed her hand against the other candidates. “Ready?” Like the pair hadn’t moved through the creche together -- usually with Ahula following the other headstrong girl. Calm, happy thoughts for these pretty eggs -- and she watched with glee as they began to rock and tremble.

Ezyzu & Gold Khamaith - Western

After paying her dues to Eveleth and Zenobiath in turn, the great form had moved to a high ledge to watch. Her rider framed delicately in her forepaws, tucked far away from the action. Certainly still a good view, but she was not a queen in a queen’s Weyr. Volunteering to transport candidates had been an eager excuse to have some moments with her family she missed so dearly. But that was not now, and could be seized once all the darling eggs had hatched and found Theirs on those sands and in the stands. Though they had a few friends among those present, the pair would remain quiet observers.

--------------

Wa’ren and Brown Caironairth - HR

They are darling, are they not? Settling in beside the small, leggy blue, Caironairth’s wings gently folded against his back as he laid across the ledge. Though the bulk of room was left for Cyliodath, not certain if his old friend might be in a mood to cuddle as they watched. His feelings were.. Quiet, soft. Happy for Zenobiath and Aresoth on their clutch. Yet he leaned over, nudging the blue on the shoulder. Perhaps we can go meet some of the new younglins during the feast later. Congratulate them on finding Theirs.

“There you are.” Climbing the stairs, Wa’ren smiled at the familiar man. He had a mug of klah in one hand, and the other pulls the slight form of the bluerider against him warmly, pressing a kiss into his hair. “Bright an’ early, hm? Sweet things are ready when they’re ready, ha.” Yet he could only think fondly to the late night hatching of his own, that Caironairth had found his way to him.

Keris - HR

Settling up in her own seat in the stands, Keris found herself with a lapful of firelizards and a preening Carica and Lord Holder on each shoulder. It was a different experience this time around. Quiet with no one to sit with, with no personal candidates to root for. It was.. quiet. Yet she hummed along with her faire’s own, scratching her as of yet nameless blue’s spines. She’d keep an eye on things and details, for she had a letter to write afterwards, after all.

Rasthell
It was time.

The red-haired man was grateful to step foot on the Hatching Sands. The winter-time air was still something of a shock to him, despite having grown up in Keroon. All his time spent at Western had changed him--some for the better, some for the worse. Part of the man wouldn't mind calling the mountain Weyr his home, though he also was painfully aware he was considered too-old to Impress at High Reaches. Who knew--maybe one of the eggs would find something of value within him--and though he tried not to get his hopes up, deep down, another part of him desperately ached to find that these Turns hadn't been in vain.

Mph.

But such thoughts were right for hatchlings, were they? Or was that yearning, the love, that want something the little eggs might wish to feel? Even after all these Turns, he didn't know what attracted a dragon, much less what would make one Impress. Would tonight he find his life forever changed?

A bow to Zenobiath and Aresoth, and then Rasthell settled. He didn't want to crowd the eggs, but he did want to watch them Hatch, or at least see a few of them. He tried to focus on the beings inside, to prepare for their judgment--whatever that might be. His eyes did fall upon Lauthisen who was prowling the sands. Catching his eye, he gave him a small nod a quick half-smile--but wouldn't wave him over or demand him come linger. Instead, he let his gaze drift back to the eggs which now had a few beginning to rock.

It wouldn't be long now...

Rasthell gave a nod--but would never force him to linger. x3

Chayrel
The dark-haired, dark-skinned, scrappy boy gave Fehral's hand a squeeze before letting it go as they stepped on the sands. While he had every intention of hanging around close to Fehral, he knew that his focus had to be on the eggs--just as Fehral's would be. That didn't mean he didn't want him close. After the bloodshed a Turn ago, Chayrel felt particularly protective. Who else did he have at High Reaches but him? And what would happen if some dragon tried to maim him--maul him--snatch him?

Well, Chayrel would be there, ready to use all his strength to push him out of harm's way.

They were in this together, after all.

He bowed to Zenobiath, before finding a spot to share with Fehral. "Which one you think'll go first?" He asked quietly as two of the eggs began to wobble and shake. He was both excited and, deep down, petrified. He had yet to have a dragon give him a second glance, and while he was still young enough, the prospect of aging out was now only a few Turns away. Oh, he had plans, and yet... Locked away was that fear of getting sent back to the mines, and all the horrors found within that stony graveyard.

....but those weren't happy thoughts, now, were they?

Nope.

Postivie. Good things. Nice things. Things like Fehral, and how nice a man he was; he did want to see the eggs, did want to meet the little ones. That was all positive, wasn't it? Hngh. Did Fehral struggle this much over tempering his thoughts and feelings? Did anyone else, for that matter? He had caught sight of Kaiator, and would have given him nod--but he seemed busy, and rather preoccupied with others.

At least here there would be no flit problems. Now dragons, on the other hand...

Zyamel & brown Venandith
The large brown received Anakumath's message with pleasure and relayed it to His. His, who had been up the moment Venandith had begun his deep-throated hum and was already dressing for the Hatching. She'll be sure to find Yours once she arrives. He mused, before peeking down at the Hatching Grounds. His wings half-flared, and his tail tip coiled with anticipation and an unusual amount of impatience.

Excited, love? Zyamel asked as she brushed out the tangles and knots of her long hair. Faranth, but she needed a cut. She'd thought of getting the whole thing chopped, and had considered doing it for months now--and yet, she hadn't yet managed. Maybe this would be the Turn--it would be a heck of a lot more manageable if it was.

Hatchings are always a time for excitement. He stated, as if this wasn't his first to attend (outside of his own).

The girl gave a grin, even as she pulled out a knot with the brush. "You're not fooling me, Ven." And he wasn't. She knew her brown most intimately, and in this moment, he was feeling pleasure and excitement, but also some sort of paternal ache. Her little hatchling was all grown up now--large, strapping, handsome, and quite a catch. And yet, there was some part of him that didn't just want six or seven clutches just for the prestige of carrying on the line; but because he did, at the end of the day, wish to be a father. A good father. To show them how to strut, and coo over the little greens, and let the little blues use him as a jungle-gym. He'd be a good brown and an even better father... He was amazing, after all.

His eyes caught sight of both Mictecath with Nanuth, and Anakumath with Elzebuth. A small snort followed the sight--two browns, neither one nearly as good looking as he--and yet, what made them somehow exceptional companions to such queens? He had grown up with Anakumath, saw enough of her through their riders... Perhaps familiarity was the problem? And Mictecath, well... Their early and tumultuous beginnings had never quite been ironed out; and Nanuth had written him off seemingly from day one. So much for close family ties. And yet, there they were.

"You're thinkin' too much, boy," Zyamel gave the brown's leg a fond thump. With her hair pinned up, and her gather best on, she was ready . "Don't worry about it."

The dragon gave a snort, and a tail flick. Please. I'm not worried. I'm a strapping, young, devilishly handsome brown and have all the time in the world to stretch my large wings and sample the fine things the Weyr has to offer.

But it wasn't Mictecath or Anakumath that was upsetting Venandith--not really, as far as Zyamel knew. Though Venandith offered her his arm and shoulder, instead, she walked forward to embrace his head and send as much love, affection, and support she could. He wouldn't fool her, no matter how clever and careful he might be. You might as well at least see if she's in attendance or invite her to share your ledge. Talking isn't going to kill you. The tangle of peculiarity that was Skerath and her brown had only gotten more confusing after she'd chased--or seemed to want to chase--Cythereath. And as for the ache of sorrow he felt for his best--his only--friend, well... maybe that was too soon, too. Zyamel didn't quite know what was going on with any of it, but she did wish she might soothe the bruises on her beloved's heart. He might never admit to it but he didn't have to--she knew.

With one last, affectionate scritch, she sent him a wave of pride and her own confidence. If Skerath's not around, there's ample others to hang out with. And some of those Westerner's likely haven't seen a specimen like you. She encouraged, only too happy to stroke his ego.

Venandith gave a snort, but said nothing else. At least not anyone but Skerath. As he glided down to the Hatching Grounds, and deposited His, he did send a tendril of inquiry over to a particular green Skerath! If yours plans to attend, I've ledge to spare that has a wonderful view of the hatching--and even better view of me, of course. Could be a fun night, eh? He asked in his usual arrogance, pretending that her answer wouldn't bother him either way.

Zyamel, for her part, was only too happy to seek out Marty. "I'm used to keeping late hours, but it's usually the other way around when it comes to what I'm wearing." She gave a snort and her usual cheeky grin. Instead of putting clothes on--well. Marty knew. "You're looking sexy as ever--any eggs pop yet? I thought they'd be all but Impressed with how long it took to pin up my hair."

With the Hatching Sands all but filled up, the Ding-Dong Bell egg gave a sudden and quite violent twitch.

Someone in there was starting to wake up.

[kaiator - he/him - HR]

He'd been somewhat too focused on what was ahead of him, enough to where he hadn't spotted Mel's approach until she was a mere split second from touching him. Kaiator let out a quiet sigh of relief that he wouldn't go through this whole thing without a single familiar face, but the preening was an...unexpected side effect he hadn't planned for.
"Oh, well--" Aaaand then he abruptly realized how she'd smoothed his hair down, exactly, and he couldn't help but make a face. "Thanks. Really. You're too kind."

Then she's waving off to someone, and-- Ah! There's that Tunnelsnake he knew and...knew, sort of. He cocks an eyebrow at Haveli as she creeps closer, but his distraction from the eggs is only momentary, especially when he notices which ones are moving.
"Looks like Holly's up." he remarks, not particularly trying to keep himself from sounding pleased. That little egg had done wonders for him during the Touching, and he was unabashedly delighted to see that it was the first to start moving. "Did either of you get to touch one of those? I got to Holly, but didn't quite make it to the other."

Barely, he was able to catch Chayrel's nod--and then Ding-Dong jerked, and Kaiator began to fidget. Things were beginning to pick up, weren't they? It would only be a matter of time before the first dragonet burst forth into the world. Was he ready for them?

[alisaide - they/them/he/him - HR]

The eggs had started shifting! Holly had caught their attention first, but when something else began to move almost as if in response, Alisaide found their eyes settling on--the Starry Night Egg. They couldn't help but remember that unpleasant curl of emotion that had snaked up on them at the Touching, and it twisted their stomach into an uncomfortable knot; they really couldn't remember the last time they'd felt something like that, especially not directed at so many others all at once. It hadn't really felt as though it had been their emotion at all--and really, they supposed it wasn't. In a way, Alisaide was glad of that, at least.
There were plenty of faces around that they didn't recognize, as they came to notice--were they from Western, perhaps, sent over on the hopes that they might find Theirs here at High Reaches? Possibly. Alisaide slipped up next to one of these unfamiliar souls who seemed just as excited as they were, offering a warm smile to the young girl.

"Kind of hard to be all calm and collected about this, isn't it? I'm having a hard time just keeping still out here!" Alisaide remarked, bouncing just a bit on the balls of their feet. "Not just because the sand's so hot, either. Though that's really not helping, is it?"

HR Candidate Tarnaria

Even after some time in a Weyr, there were some habits that were hard to break, and one of those was waking ridiculously early. Late nights were one thing, but waking early was another - Bakers didn't wait for the sun to peak over the mountains or the horizon to rise, themselves, and begin making bread. Her childhood had been filled with waking early to help make the dough and section it, and as she'd grown older to bake it, too. So when the call went out, Tarnaria only found herself rising a couple hours earlier than she usually would to start preparing for her day.

And what a day it was going to be! The eggs were hatching! She was nervous, though. She'd been through this a few times and nothing had happened. She'd had a couple older Riders assure her this wasn't unusual, and there'd be nothing to worry about yet, but that didn't stop her worrying.

The sands were, as always, hot, and compared to the bone-chilling cold of winter, this was reassuring. Really, she'd kind of envied the eggs and the young dragons within, cozy in the warm sands. She looked at everybody gathering, and found a spot to stand without feeling like she was intruding on anybody's space. For the moment, the spot was good.
