With his encouraging words Laven closed her eyes. The exhaustion from the haunted house seeping deep into her bones and into this twisted world their minds had created.

Perhaps this place was simply that, a dream turned nightmare that was warped and twisted by the winding rooms and shifting hallways they had tried desperately to escape. However, there was something inexplicably different about it. The macabre and horror and shadows that clung to each blade of grass spoke of a chaos that even she, in her darkest hour, could never imagine.

It scared her senseless.

But then the conversation shifted and the mood calmed considerably. It left Laven wondering if the reason their appearance reflected the other was because a part of them envied something the other one had, a trait or virtue they wish they had. For her it was his courage and strength. But for him, she wondered, what about her was there to be envious of?

Darkness rolled in along the edges of the dreamscape, a dense fog the muted all sound around them until there was nothingness.

Sweet nothingness.

Time was a relative thing in a place of one’s own imagination It could have been minutes, or hours before she finally stirred. There was no sun in the Dark Kingdom and so looking outside a window would give no indication of what time it was.

Nonetheless, Laven stirred.

Shifting where she lay her eyes finally opened to a dimly lit room and only then did she realize that, like in the Dreamscape, she had at some point curled up so that her head rested against his chest just above his heart.

Her lips pulled into a sleepy smile as she simply listened to the steady rhythm and even breathing. A strong sound that reassured her that he was real and they were safe and even though this pace was a far cry from anything she would call home, this room was theirs and he belonged to her.

Mine, she had spoken possessively in the dream and she wondered if in fact their minds were still connected from the earring she had him wear before their escape, would he remember what she said? Not that she had the courage to ask but it was a curiosity just the same.

Only a few moments passed before the heavyweight of exhaustion, or perhaps it was just his paw draped over her side, coaxed her back into a dreamless slumber.
