Naruto begins to transform into the nine tails, but uses his willpower to tell the fox to go away. He even begins to get through to Sora at long last.

Episode 71 - shippuden
Naruto succeeds in snapping Sora out of beast mode and saves the village. Sora goes on his merry way to seek new friends meanwhile, another tailed beast host is under attack by the akatsuki.

Episode 72 - shippuden
Naruto and Sai are recovering in the hospital while Kakashi has ordered them to stay put because the next part of Naruto's training requires him to be fully healed.

Naruto resumes his training and this time he has to attempt to cut a waterfall using shadow clones and his wind nature chakra. It was tougher than it looked.

After devouring 3 bowls of ichiraku ramen, Naruto witnesses that Kakashi can also use rasengan.

The akatsuki headed to the collection office in a dingy bathroom with the leaf ninja in tow. Meanwhile Naruto is working on a new justu now where he adds wind nature to the rasengan.

Asuma, Shikamaru and 2 others with them find the akatsuki. However, they are having a tough time fighting hidan.

Episode 79 - Shippuden
Still alive, Hidan requests of his partner Kakazu to retrieve his body and reattach his head. But, upon doing so, Hidan kills Asuma. Shikamaru is helpless to do anything since he is all worn out and the other two ninja are pathetic excuses for shinobi who get caught by Kakazu.

Episode 80 - shippuden
Back up arrives just as Hidan and Kakazu were summoned by their leader to do a tailed beast sealing. A last-moments with Asuma occurs and Asuma officially dies.

Naruto had just realized what he needed to do to perfect the new jutsu when a messenger told Yamato that Asuma has been killed, thus training has been once again, put on hold.

Shikamaru has a hard time dealing with Asuma's death and eventually calls upon Choji and Ino to help him get some sort of vengence for it. Kakashi comes along too to supervise.

Naruto has 24 hours to perfect his jutsu or he cannot be back up for team 10. Meanwhile, team 10 has found Hidan and Kakuzu and has resumed the earlier battle.

Kakazu reveals he can wield 4 different elements by separating his body with 4 different entities from his own. The earth style entity goes down when Kakashi destroys his mask.
