Out of the corner of his eye Hoarfrost caught sight of a little kit, huddled into the grass. He looked exhausted. "... Do you know where Mama is?"

This update for is Duke of Donut. Hoarfrost has found a kit! He can choose to share this information with others, and choose what to do about these findings.

Well. This was exactly what Hoarfrost had been afraid of. Give him long nights of cold, wet rain. Give him scary beasts in the tall grass of the Dales. Give him the idea of being lost, alone, hurt, hunted, and he'd be fine with any of those things.
But a kit? A lost, exhausted kit huddled in the grass?
This was the stuff of nightmares, wasn't it.
Hoarfrost was frozen when he spotted the kit, and swore under his breath, hopping closer to the poor thing. "Yeah, yes we do." He looked back, growling a little at Coy Koi who'd gone further ahead beyond him. "Coy! Get back here, I found one!" He turned his attention back to the kit, smiling carefully.
Don't panic, don't panic, don't panic.
"She's back the way we came. We've been looking for you. Come on, we can get you back to your Mama quick as the lights in the sky." He looked back for Coy, growling under his breath. He'd much rather pass off the comforting to Coy Koi. He was fairly certain no matter of exhaustion would make the kit miss how uncomfortable all this made him.
At least they'd found one. He hoped the others would find the other two.

Poking around aimlessly in the grasses had proved to be rather ineffective. Rowan hadn't found anything worth mentioning, and honestly, it was starting to wear on him. He was growing tired and his determination was beginning to wane. He kept mostly to himself until he heard one of the bucks ahead of him call out that they may have seen a sign of the missing kit.He hurried ahead to meet them, maybe even assist if he could, but stopped short when he realized the pair was heading into a less traveled part of the grasses. Maybe he should stay there and wait for them to come back? They probably had it under control, no need to rush in and spook the already frightened kit and potentially get himself lost. From where he was, he could get himself back to his burrow. Probably. With that thought, he finalized his decision. He'd wait for them. In case they needed a point of reference later. Okay. This buck was completely insane. Justice was now completely positive. She raised a brow at his explanation, blinking quickly. Maybe he was right. Maybe he didn't have something to hide. But...a book. What was he talking about? What the heck was a book? Did he mean buck, what he was? She looked over the male. "Maybe you should be a closed buck then, I'm not interested." she snorted, taking a step away. Disgusting. Ridiculous. Calling himself open like that. How lewd. How improper. How bold. Honestly, she couldn't really believe it....if it weren't for this male being such an enigma from the star.
"That's what all good liars say." She snorted, shaking her head. Justice was never the type to trust someone's loose word, even if they present it as a fact. Their facts could always be wrong. The buck hadn't showed anything other than innocence, but he still hadn't proved himself yet.
But...she was still going to lend a ear to try and get to the bottom of this mystery. "Do you have any idea about why the storm was spiteful?" she tilted her head. It seemed to match up with what that Hoarfrost said....the sky being angry at them all...hm. But she hadn't done anything ill in the area. Was the sky mad at the residents? Why then? Why would the sky be so mad to destroy a tree and force it to land on others?
This buck. This big brat. She rolled her eyes good naturedly. "How could you not notice you're distracting. You're distracting us from our goal!" Not that she really minded it. His company was nice...in a weird way. She wasn't used to having such great company. Strange.
Yeah, she didn't like him. Not one bit. Why did he have to make her feel such strange feelings?
"Well, I hope for the both of us we find these kits and bring them back home." she nodded to herself. "The river is too dangerous for a kit to wander around by themselves. They could get swept away." At the thought, she hurried her hop forwards before growing flustered. "I don't have a hangup. Don't twist my words!" she glowered at him, before shaking his head. "Bucks and their insensitive ways. You wouldn't understand." Then again, even she didn't understand. Not like she was going to tell him that. Give the male an upperhand? No way.
"I can see why they had to watch you." he gave him a look over before nodding. "You aren't all there, are you?" It was possibly insulting. Justice didn't mean it to be but there was no way to go around it. It was okay if not all buns had all of their wits about them. She just liked to be aware of it while being in the same company. It was easier to gauge actions, easier to figure out things.....and although Justice didn't live a life that was easy if there was a way to make her life less stressful? She'd take it. "You're far away from home." It was sad. Maybe she should travel with him, make sure he reunited with his family safely. That is, if he had a family to go back to. Justice winced.
Hoarfrost was the smartest of the group huh? Justice mulled the thought over. "Seems right." He did seem very knowledgeable. Was he old? The older buns always seemed to have the most knowledge. It also didn't take much to be the brightest...at least this buck didn't seem the wisest of the two. "Why isn't she here then?" If they're close, it would only make sense. Back at the burrow? Or maybe it was an imaginary friend.
Justice's eyes narrowed. She couldn't quite tell if not being Hoarfrost's type was a compliment or not. Weird. She studied Asher for a moment before letting out a bark of laughter. "That buck might be?!" They seemed nothing alike! What common interests could they possibly have. "I would think that Hoarfrost would deserve better."

Koi gaped. "We have to find the kit though, they must be somewhere around here!" Probably all alone, scared, injured.....the buck gulped, unease settling in his bones. it was best not to think about it. They'd get to the bun before anything bad happened, for sure! "We're still prepared to wrangle a few kits in! I got tons of energy!" Koi thumped the ground enthusiastically before giving Hoarfrost a lop sided grin. "Everything's going to be okay!" Even if he didn't quite believe that himself.
With new pep in his step, he hopped forward and towards where he had saw the movement. "You've always stayed around? Doesn't that get boring?" he slowed down to scratch behind his ear. Life would get stale staying in the same place, wouldn't it? Then again, he had never tried himself. So how would he know. "What was your warren like?!" His ears twitched, suddenly enthralled at the idea of one. He had never been in a warren, heck, he had never met a warren before. But having a strong group of friends living together sounded like so much fun! Yeah, maybe that was what he would do when he was older and tired of traveling the world.
Koi sniffed the air before he continued to hop forward. "They're somewhere over here, I can just feel it! It's alright, we can find the path again!" Hopefully. Probably The important part was that they had each other.. Coy Koi was so focused on running forward, that he completely missed the kit, nor did he see Hoarfrost find the little one. It was only when the buck called his name did he skid to a stop and looked back. "What--Oh!" He beamed at the small blurry figure on the ground and bound over, tumbling over himself as he slowed to a stop next to Hoar. "Are you looking for your mama little one?! We know where she is! She's been looking for you." He glanced around. "W---Do you have another sibling?" Where were they at?

“I don’t.” Asher admitted to her question about the storm, shaking his head. “Just a hunch. Hoarfrost felt much the same, he didn’t want to come down here to begin with. But Storm insisted.” He smiled wryly. “I was coming, and she didn’t think it particularly wise for me to come alone. I wonder why.” He grinned a little, looking over to Justice.
“I’m not distracting! I’m just having a conversation.” He beamed at the good natured ribbing, carrying on ahead down their path. “If you can’t walk and talk at the same time, Justice, I’m worried for your safety.”
Asher’s bright smile dimmed a little as they continued, frowning slightly as he considered the river. “We ought to be a good ways away from it.” He said more to himself than Justice, lifting onto his hind legs again to try and see above the grass. “As much as I love the Dales, I do hate how easy it is to lose your place in here.” He grumbled. “Higher up I’d be able to see where we are and know for sure.” For now, they carried on down the path blindly. There was no other option but to carry on until they found a dead end or a kit.
“Suppose I wouldn’t.” He smiled a little, shrugging. “I don’t really fashion myself much of a parent, anyway.” It was a wry sort of comment, but ultimately true. Asher’d seen little need to further his own line, and besides, from what he remembered of his own parents, he didn’t expect he’d have any great instincts to keep anyone smaller than himself safe.
“I wouldn’t put it that way.” Asher smiled a bit. “This is my home now. With Hoarfrost and Stormborn, and the other old bunnies on the borderland.” He laughed a little. “It’s not where I was born, but I don’t think that’s a great marker for a home, is it?” He looked over. “What about you — where’re you from?”
As their discussion turned to Stormborn, Asher simply shrugged, laughing under his breath at her exclamation about poor Coy Koi. “Storm stayed behind. She was checking in on some of our neighbors — we haven’t seen them in a few days, she was a bit worried.” He looked over, grinning. “I think Coy Koi’d be good for Hoarfrost. Help him relax, a bit. Or give him somewhere to focus that sharp eye on someone other than me.” It wasn’t entirely altruistic to hope Hoarfrost’s attention would be turned elsewhere. He might actually get the freedom to do things, then.

“They’re certainly around here somewhere,” Hoarfrost agreed with a soft snort. “But that’s not to say they’re here.” Oh, Hoarfrost. If only you knew. “I’ll leave you to the wrangling.” He said, a smirk tugging at his face at the enthusiasm on Coy Koi’s. Whether he believed it or not, at least the buck was ready for whatever was waiting for them down the path.
“No.” Hoarfrost answered simply, slowing behind him when Coy Koi slowed down. “I traveled a great deal before I settled. Saw what I needed to, and found my home.” He looked over, smirking a bit. “Never been to a warren, have you? They’re all the same.” Hoarfrost overtook him to go ahead, ears twisting to listen. “I did my job, and when the warren disbanded, I dug out a burrow in the Hills and haven’t left since.” It was a very simplistic telling of a much darker, more bloody history, but he didn’t particularly think it was important to divulge to the poor boy just yet.
Coy Koi didn’t seem the type of buck to know the darker side of the world. Hoarfrost found himself not wanting to spoil it for him.
When they found the kit, Hoarfrost breathed a sigh of relief that Coy Koi came bounding back to him. He stepped back from the kit to let the buck ahead, raising on his hind legs to look around and see if he could spot any path that might lead to more of the kits. “I don’t see anything…” He huffed, dropping back again. “Come on. Let’s go back the way we came, the poor thing’s ready to drop. They’ll not be up for further exploration.”
He didn’t like the idea of turning back, but the safety of the kit was of more importance just then than carrying on. If they pushed the kit to exhaustion, he didn’t expect Mama would be very pleased with their efforts.

He didn't?! Well, just what was she expecting anyway from someone who was so....interesting. Justice frowned and gave a snort. Didn't make her any less brittle about the situation. Another dead end. "A hunch is not proof." All hearsay. She grit her teeth together. Although she relied on her own intuition to look for trouble; she didn't exactly trust others. The doe pursed her lips.
Well. Except for Hoarfrost. There was just something about him that made him awefully trustworthy...
Weird.
She didn't like it.
"So you are a troublemaker." Her keen eye glanced Asher over. "I knew that there was something off about you. Good thing I'm here to keep you in check." She huffed, before her shoulders tensed. Wait. Why would a troublemaker be open about causing mischief? Then again, it was Asher, the same bun who kept his "books" open all the time.
Yeah, she couldn't trust him. No matter how nice he was.
"There's no need to worry about me." She rolled her eyes and stretched out her injured back leg. "I can still move. I'm not some damsel that you have to rescue or save." She gave him a look before eying the grass. "The company is nice." Justice hoped he didn't hear that. Giving compliments was always difficult.
She watched him warily as he got on his hind legs...before her ears perked up. Right. She could try to look over the tall grass. She tried sitting on her own hind legs and immediately hissed as a bout of pain shot up her injured leg. Yeah, better not. "A good way away...that's good." No kits drowning. The news uplifted her spirit.. The energy that was drained out of her system seemed to be rejuvenated. "Of course you don't fashion yourself a parent. You're male." And really, weren't they all the same? Terrible and no good at taking care of others. Raising children just wasn't their niche in life. It wasn't a bad thing. Just a matter of life. "A doe's intuition is the best for kit raising." Which meant Asher had no say on this matter.
Justice shook her head "I guess." As much as she hated to admit it--he did have a point. Living in an area did give someone an edge. They would know the own territory that they lived in. It was the only way to survive. No that she would admit that he was fully right, of course. "Me?" She shook her head. "I don't have a home. Prefer not to." The world was her home. There were too many rabbits who needed help for her to settle down.
The softness of her voice completely vanished at the next comment though. Justice whipped her head around and nudged Asher with a paw. "What do you mean, they were missing for a few days?! You didn't go and help Storm? What's wrong with you." She looked over his shoulder. Maybe she should go back and somehow find his burrow....wait. No. Her nose wasn't that good. "After we find those kits, I'm bringing you back home." She decided, shoving him again. "Dumb buck." If only they didn't have to find the kits...she would have gladly dragged him by the ear towards the river where they met, demand to know what direction his home was. "Sounds like Hoarfrost is smart for watching you. You can't be trusted on your own, can you?"

One twist in the the grass tunnel brought Justice up short. This was as far as the path went, and there didn't seem to be any more offshoots. End of the line.

This update for is Porcelain Pinch. Justice can choose to share this information with any rabbit in the left fork. Any rabbit travelling down this fork far enough will eventually also discover the dead end.

Hoarfrost had said he was going to leave him to the wrangling but...he didn't. Not at all! Koi didn't mind, of course. He was pretty confident and sure that Hoarfrost would be great with kits. The buck seemed like a great male! Very experienced, enough to have lived within a warren. He'd have to pick his brain later for his adventures when they didn't have a scared kit to worry about.
Koi beamed at the little bun, crouching down to get a good look at them. "Your mama is back there with others! She's been very worried about you. Let's get you back to her. " He jutted his head towards the way where they came. "It's not too far, you'll be there in no time and safe in a nice and warm burrow... And Hoarfrost is a great guide!" Koi yawned himself. Someplace dry did sound like a good idea...once they were able to sleuth out this mystery first! "My name's Koi, what's your name?"

Justice came to a pause in her hobble. The grass was shooting straight up now. The tunnel that they were currently standing in stopped so abruptly, weird. "You don't think a bird got to them do you? She looked to Asher with slight fear. "Where could the kit have gone?" Unnerved, she looked over the grass again to try to find some answer. This was all so strange! "Should we go back?" Asher wouldn't know, he wouldn't have the intuition for that. It was more of a question posed to herself. There was no other path, no other signs..."We should go back." As much as it pained her to admit.

Asher laughed under his breath at Justice's accusation, shrugging as he carried on. "Suppose I am, compared to the other two. They're older than I am." He admitted, grinning. "I was barely out on my own when I met them, and they'd already lived a full life." He snickered a bit. "Bit of parents, those two, I guess." He looked back. "See? Home." He even smiled brightly.
"Not so much worried about you." Asher added, glancing back and eying the leg as she stretched it. "Just keepin' in mind that it's just the two of us until we meet back with the others." He glanced around the grass, ear twisting back towards Justice. He said nothing in kind to the compliment, though. He had a feeling bringing it up would only hurt him in the end, with either a literal kick or a punishing silence... He kept his eyes ahead on the grass, instead.
The hiss made him stop short and spin back around. "Are you--" He sighed under his breath, eying her. "Try not to make it worse 'til we get back to the group. Then we can help get you back together." He said a little pointedly. He might be able to help drag the doe back on his own, but it'd be easier with Hoarfrost. Or at the very least, they'd complain over each other and Asher could ignore them both in favor of doing something helpful.
Asher glanced to Justice as they continued moving, humming a little. "Know a buck like that, too." He said with a slight smile. "Tends to wander around. He's got a burrow dug out somewhere, but every time he comes back to it, he often has to make room for whichever doe and her kits have made their home there for the season." He laughed under his breath. Poor Two-Face.
The buck looked back at the nudging, blinking a little. He snorted under his breath, laughing. "Don't take it so personally, Justice." He said, carrying on. "Bunnies often more out of the Poppy Hills after a while, it's not uncommon for them to up and go without much say. The Hills aren't easy to dig out, and even less easy to find food in. If the doe were havin' kits, I can't blame her moving to softer soils." He still frowned a little, eyes going distant. That was Stormborn's frequent argument: rabbits moved all the time. Still, he couldn't shake that on top of all this storming and missing kits nonsense, there was something else driving rabbits away from the Hills...
A mystery for another day.
"Seems I'm lucky to have you watching me, too." He grinned at Justice. The grin dimmed as they hit a dead end in the tunnel. He didn't want to think the kits were picked up by anything, but the abruptness that it ended in... Well. He shook his head. "Could be they came back the other way." He said with a sigh. "Or kits never came this way. Could've been another rabbit making this tunnel, or something." He looked over. "Let's go back. We'll meet up with Hoarfrost and the others. Maybe their tunnel was more successful than ours." He smiled a little.
"We'll find them, Justice. Let's head back." Asher turned, heading back up the path they'd gone down. He really, really hoped Hoarfrost didn't make a liar of him.

Hoarfrost rumbled a little at Coy Koi's compliment, though it wasn't necessarily a lie. He had a good sense of direction and this was his home. He'd be a poor excuse for a bunny if he didn't have the ability to tell his way around his own home in the dark. The older buck nudged Coy Koi with his nose at the yawn, sighing a bit.
"We've got to go." He reminded him, moving around to the other side of the kit and nudging him ahead down the path they'd come. "D'you think you can go just a bit longer, kit? It's a bit of a walk, but we'll get back to your Mama faster that way." He didn't think carrying the kit the full distance would work in the long run. If the kit could walk, at least until they regrouped with the others, they could work out carrying him back from there.

Redeemed It's not hard to see that Hoarfrost was older. It came to no surprise to Justice and she nodded and continued on their treck in the grass. That was, until she heard that they had already lived a full life when Asher just met them. "How long ago did you meet them?!" The white buck didn't seem to be that old. Then again, looks could be deceiving..still. "We left a senior bun to his own devices." She bit her lower lip. That couldn't be good. Dread creeped into her bones at the slow realization that they left him with an idiotic young bun full of energy. "We're going to come back to disaster." She groaned. Hopefully Hoarfrost wouldn't break a literal leg. "You shouldn't be needing parents at your age." She gave him a doubtful look. At least that should be the case. But the more she talked to Asher, the more she was realizing that he was definitely....different. Justice still wasn't sure if that was a good or a bad thing.
"Well, you don't need to worry about me." she grunted and stared at her leg. "I've been in worse situations. I can still hop." She made a point to make a small leap forward just to prove her point, ignoring the sharp pain that went through her leg at the movement. "See. I'm fine. And we aren't too far away from the others. Quit you're worrying. Focus on finding the kits."
He glowered back at him at his exclamation, rubbing the back of her leg with a forepaw. "I am fine." She seethed, rolling her eyes. "I'm trying not to make it worse. Do you think I like pain?" She hoped not. Pain was just a price of keeping her namesake--Justice. that wasn't her name for nothin after all. "My leg is still attached to me, I'm already put together. You aren't my mate." She snorted, hopping a bit ahead of him and digging her back feet, hoping that some mud would kick in his direction.
A scoff left her mouth, shaking her head. "How weird." She gave him a slightly wry look. "He expects it to be vacant when he comes back to it?" Usually when she made a burrow, she didn't expect it to be uninhabited if she left it for more than a few days. It was just the way life worked. Digging another burrow wasn't too terrible to do.
What a weird buck. She gave him a dirty look. "I am not taking it personal. I am not one of your neighbors who went missing. You have a responsibility to take care of your neighbors. What if they didn't just leave?" Death would be on his paws. Potentially her paws too. "I'm coming back with you to find them even though you don't seem concerned." Maybe she could make a friend in Stormborn. They both seemed concerned about nearby buns and wouldn't leave a mystery without solving it. Unlike some.
"Damn straight you're lucky to have me watching you." Justice nodded at him. "Although I feel like you might need more than just me to watch you. " She gave him another pointed look, still baffled about how open he was and the lack of social cues but that wasn't important right now
What was important was the dead end. She stared at the tall grass and bowed her head. "You're right." There was that other trail..."It's weird for a bun to run all the way back and go a different way though..." Justice pursed her lips. Very weird indeed. However with her leg aching, and there being no other signs....it was best to regroup. Many minds were better than her one, after all. And Hoarfrost did seem to have a good mind on him...hopefully he was okay.
Alright, I'm coming." Justice's eyes took one last look at the grass in front of her before turning around and following Asher. Those kits had to be alive and around nearby somewhere right?
