Zippy stopped flailing and hollering and blinked open her eyes. "Oh..I can SEE!" She said happily, blinking around from the safety of her papa's ruff where she was now snuggled. But the loud booms were scary and the bright flashes happened again. At least now she saw they were not actually making her blind but the rain was ruining her fun. Frowning she watched Bumble, who seemed to be enjoying the loud sounds, then reluctantly left the warm fluff to go with them toward shelter.
"What are these sky thumps? I don't like it!" She pouted as she scampered into the taller grass. 103 tw: 594

It seemed like the thunder was getting closer and closer, with a shorter gap between each boom and flash. Each thunderclap seemed to make all the grasses shake. Maybe even made the earth itself shake. Rain poured down all the harder. It was not a good night to be above ground.
And then, the storm was right away. It was HERE. A single sentinel tree stood among the tall grasses. Just up from the river, it was behemoth among the tall grass. Until the lightning struck it.
A bright beam snaked from the sky and made contact with the single tree. A huge boom echoes through the Dales, able to be heard by any rabbit in the vicinity. The tree seemed to blow apart, and fell to the earth. Flames licked at its upper branches.
Hauntingly, a rabbit scream rang through the night, between the booms from the thunder. Had someone been beneath that tree?

Rabbits are still welcome to join at this stage! This thunderstorm is currently right over head, and your posts should reflect this! Your rabbit may or may not be able to see the fallen tree, but they certainly heard the lightning strike.
Please add this footer to your post to indicate if your rabbit is going to explore the fallen tree.

He hadn't been fast enough.
Racing along the pathways of the Dale, the sky overhead opened up before he'd made it across and to some place of relative safety. Now he was drenched through as the rain fell heavy and thick; his fur matted to his body as he tried to pick up the pace on the slippery ground. From the corner of his vision there was a flash. A crack, a boom, and a scream.
Heart racing, he paused in his trek to peek out above the grasses; ears swiveling to try and make out any other sounds through the drum of the rain and his own thundering pulse.
It was impossible to see very far in this weather, but all three sounds had come from the same direction. He kept staring out into the darkness, head turning between the path he was planning on taking straight across the Dales and the disaster. Had... had that been a rabbit he knew?
He took a hop towards it, sniffing as if he might catch a whiff in this downpour. What if, just by chance, that had been Amaranth? His body carried him a few hops further towards the call of distress. No, with the kittens? Impossible. But... A few more hops became a choice, which then became a run. A shadow started to loom out of the bleakness. A tree? Sorrel paused for a moment, nose twitching as he breathed hard.
Then he bounded forward again, eyes wide in fright as he approached. Exploring the tree.[WC: 253 Total: 253]

In spite of the urgency of the matter, Paro paused for a second to eye the grumpy Hoarfrost with a quirk of her brow. What a character. The dark doe cast her gaze upward, somewhat furtive, eyeing the sky with distrust. It was clearly not just a bit of rain. She was about to open her mouth to say so when the sky was split open by a single, unmistakeable stalk of lightning, winding its way out of the heavens with unimaginable speed to strike the lone tree in the sea of grass. The dark sky behind it lit up, and for a second it almost felt like it was daytime. And then, an ear-ringing boom and Paro watched in transfixed shock as the tree blew apart and dropped to the ground like a corpse. The doe sat back on her haunches for a second, eyed her companies, and then took off toward the tree. "Someone needs help!" She said aloud, even as she bolted. Exploring the tree. Blink, meanwhile, was hot on Buzz's tail, sprinting for safety when the lightning hit. The sudden brightness seemed enough to thoroughly distract her from what she was doing, and she skidded to a halt mid-sprint, ears tucked close to her head and eyes wide with panic. She looked around frantically. It was all very confusing out here, and she had lost track of where she was even going. Oh no. wc 235 total 216+138+191+235 = 780

Asher was content to strike out after Hoarfrost, trusting the older buck's instincts and, frankly, his eyes. Hoarfrost had been alive longer than he ever had. If he said it was just a storm, who was he to question Hoarfrost? The rabbit trusted him, he'd never doubt his friend. Even if he should.
The scream raised every hair on the buck's neck. He froze, looking up sharply towards the tree that had been cracked in the lightning, and bolted towards it without any instinct otherwise. "Come on, Hoar!" He shouted over his shoulder, rushing after Paro to investigate the screams.
Maybe they'd heard wrong. Maybe something was under the trees.
Maybe something else was there, waiting for more rabbits to snare in its teeth.
Exploring the tree.

In contrast to Asher, whose fur stood on end as the lightning split a massive old tree and the scream rang through the storm between claps of angry thunder, Hoarfrost wasn't frozen. He'd stopped, ears twisting to try and track the scream, nose sniffing sharply to try and pick up anything bad (blood, heat, something) over the crisp scent of the fresh storm...
And then Asher was rushing ahead. He swore, growling, and took off after the buck. "Asher!" He snapped. "Asher, wait!" They were running for a trap, he could feel it in his bones, and damn it, he really should've made Stormborn come investigate this cursed heat.

Sticks remained on edge for some time after she left her burrow. She would pause to check behind her every so often, still cautious of whatever force was causing the air to feel so strange. She was so certain that there was something, she just couldn't figure out what and it was driving her more mad than she already was. She mumbled to herself about an angry monster. A great beast that had some way to conceal itself. It was probably looking for prey. It would probably take her as a tasty little morsel. Sticks decided she should probably go back in her burrow. If it was a big monster, it wouldn't be able to reach her there and she'd had about enough for now, anyway. The monochrome doe had been so into her thoughts, she failed to notice the deafening silence that had overtaken the area. Then came the loud boom, the rain, a flash, another boom. Sticks cried out, startled and pretty sure the monster had descended and was coming for her. She turned tail and ran blindly for her burrow. By some stroke of luck, she managed to make it back without getting lost or running into anyone or anything. She dove underground and headed straight to the modest nest she had created at the back of the burrow. She hunkered down in it and didn't plan to leave it for any reason, not until the monster was gone. Another boom, bigger than any before it, reverberated through Sticks's little makeshift home, shaking the earth and the rabbit to her very core. The beast was just outside, she knew it. It was angry, it was trying to get in! Covering her head with her paws, the doe did all she could to make herself smaller. "Please just go away," she uttered softly like a mantra. Maybe if she willed it hard enough, it would leave. This post: 318In another part of the Dales, Rowan had wandered into the area before the storm hit and had just kind of been minding his own business. He'd had a passing thought that the day felt sort of off, like it was dragging on longer than usual, but shook it off. It was probably just him. He was a more bummed than frightened when the rain started coming. His burrow wasn't exactly close, and he wasn't ready to turn in quite yet. He had taken only a few hops toward where he hoped he could find shelter when the tree fell. The buck had frozen in place, watching it happen in what felt like slow motion. He couldn't believe what he was seeing, something had come from the sky and just decimated that tree! Someone had screamed. Rowan shook his head to clear his thoughts and steel his resolve. He didn't think twice about it, he had to help! His paws hit the ground hard as he slid his way across the soggy ground toward the tree. "Don't worry! I'm coming!" [[AHH. Sorry about the wait in response!]]
Koi didn't know much about good or bad ideas. He just did what he thought was best---no matter if someone thought it was the right way, or the wrong way. There had been one too many instances where people conflicted and what was right to one bun wasn't right to the other. It was all very much confusing. But, he liked to believe in the good of others. And this doe seemed trustworthy enough.
He was just about take her suggestion when that's when it happened--the tumble. He shook his head from the grime as he tried to sort himself out. The buck could swear that there was mud and grit in his ears even after the shaking. But--it kind of made it hard to get his wits together when there was a doe frantically pulling on him. He tried keeping up with her, shaking each paw with every little step that he could take. "A-Alright!" It had to be safe. Safer than being out with a bunch of booms and flashes of light, at least. He quickly ran after the doe, hot on her trail.
She was so fast!
Koi was grateful when they stopped at the other bun for a brief second as he tried to calm his breathing which proved very difficult. Trembling, he looked at the other bun and nodded dumbly. Had he been through something like this before? He seemed so experienced. Koi would have asked, but as soon as he was able to catch his breath, it was time to run again. He seized a large breath in his lungs before darting and stumbling his way forwards.
And he completely faceplanted once again as a large flash of light blinded him. Instead of running into a bunch of mud, however. He ran right into his new friends! What a terrible way to make a first impression. "W-What's going on?!" he quaked, eyes darting towards the tree that had now fallen. Was someone hurt? Should they help? It just looked so dangerous...
But if someone was hurt, then they had to help right? Wouldn't that be the correct thing to do? He shuddered at the thought of finding a body and looked to his two new companions. What would they do? "You're damn sure there is someone causing it." Justice nodded and gave a pointed look at Asher. He was still the first suspect on her list. He was calm, but he seemed to know so much. The fact that he was so calm, that she felt like he was the trustworthy sort----it didn't make sense. She wasn't the type to trust others. Yeah, something was off. And she was sure it wasn't the other doe that they were talking to either. "Are you blaming me?" The chocolate doe's ears laid flat against her head, hair bristling and hackles raised. "I am a protector of all buns." they held their chest out and held their head high, haughty. She dared this buck to say anything. Give her a reason to somehow subdue him. But her serious demeanor fell as soon as she saw him tumble back. "Did you--?" She stared incredulously before letting out a soft snort, completely forgetting about the dangerous situation that they're in for a moment. A buck so calm, yet they fall over at the sound of a boom. It was bad to laugh, she knew. The situation was still dangerous. There was just something so....comical about it all, in such a dire time. No, she had to focus. Justice's eyes went towards the white bun that was in their company. Huh. Had he been there the whole time? "You've been through something like this before?" She looked towards the skies and silently made an apology, before promising to make sure that she'd get down to business and make sure to change what was making the sky angry. For the betterment of all bunhood. He seemed to know what he was doing. She nodded towards him. And then there was another flash and boom. It wouldn't have been so bad...if there hadn't been a blood curdling scream that came with it. Dread filled her bones at the sound and she immediately looked towards the source. And the other doe running towards the damage. Justice cursed, bolting after her. If anyone else was going to get hurt, it was going to be her. She wasn't going to let anyone else get injured by an angry sky. And Justice was well versed of what might have come after the scream---death. No other bun should see a body, marred by some disaster. Death might be natural but it still terrorized dreams at night. At least, that was what she knew from experience. Justice didn't even bother to look back at the other two bucks. She hoped they wouldn't come. WC: 811 Overall WC: 1564 Exploring the tree.

He wasn't sure why he had managed to be out here, away from where he was most comfortable. Maybe it had been that silly butterfly he'd been chasing? Or the other rabbits he'd spotted and went bounding after? Perhaps that pretty flower that he wanted to pick and bring home to Pumpkin for her flower collection? Wait... she did have a flower collection, right? Well, he knew she liked flowers! That was enough.
So, of course, in his jovial state and tendency to not pay attention to everything... Pippin was not at all prepared for the sudden flash of light and really loud BOOM what was that, help?!
And then the rain started.
Pippin freaked. He backed up suddenly, eyes wide on the sky and his heart pounding. Oh why oh why had he come out here all alone?! He turned to dash away. Find somewhere to hide... and didn't see the dark rabbit that had also found himself witness to the sky unleashing its fury. He smacked right in to the dark bun, rolled backwards, then made a distressed sound and latched on to the stranger.
"H-Help!" He squeaked out in fear.
And then, the second loud boom. Pippin buried his face to the ground, utterly terrified. He had no idea what was even going on. Just that he wanted the bloody hell out of there!

-------
He'd been watching the strange way the sky had changed colors. The weird sensations the air had held. And then contemplated what he should do about all of it. Because really, it was too much work to think extra hard on what it all meant. So when the first flash of lightning and crash of thunder came, Eclipse wasn't all that scared. In fact, it took him a good second to process it all, ears falling slightly back as he gave the sky an equally gloomy look.
"Well, darn." He muttered, sighing heavily. Looked like he was going to have to find some shelter before...
"Of course it would rain." He sighed once more.
And then was knocked back a little by the sudden impact of... another rabbit? Eclipse blinked big eyes at the lighter rabbit that had suddenly appeared. It was obvious this one was terrified. Or maybe just lost? Really, why did this all have to happen to him?
"Er...are you okay?" That was the polite thing to ask, right?
And then the other was clutching at him as another loud BOOM thundered through the sky. Eclipse watched in strange fascination as the lightning struck the tree, off in the distance. And seemed to just implode. Now that was not what he'd been expecting at all. His ears fell as an uneasy feeling crept through him.
And was that a scream? It was so hard to tell with the storm.
"Maybe we should find shelter?" He asked the rabbit hiding at his feet. Because checking if that was a scream was... too much work.
WC: 266
-------
Another rabbit had been an unfortunate soul to be trapped out above ground when the sky opened up. The thunder had startled Rain Drop, but the rain had been welcome. Though not as it picked up and seemed to get heavier. No, she liked the melodic sound the rain drops would make when she was safely in a burrow.
But this? This storm was angry.
Rain Drop had been in the process of seeking shelter when the terrifying second crash of thunder sounded. Except, it had sounded slightly different? And then there was suddenly an orange glow flickering from the corner of her gaze.
Skidding to a stop, Rain Drop looked in horror at the flames that dotted the horizon. Had lightning struck the ground?! And then she heard it. She had almost missed the sound from the other noises of the storm, but steeling herself to listen... yes. There had been a scream!
Heart pounding, Rain Drop warred with herself. The wind was frightening her. The loud thunder made her fur bristle. And the rain was getting her soaking wet. But... if there was someone that needed help...
With a small cry, Rain Drop darted through the shaking grass, catching sight of another... and another darting form. Others that had heard the same cry?

The rain was really pouring on Thunder now as he enjoyed the show in the sky from his rock perch. It gave him an excellent vantage point when the great spikey light crashed from the sky and struck the tree. It was terrifying! It was thrilling! He could FEEL the force of the jolt in the rock beneath him, as if the ground were trembling in fear. Raptly he watched the tree blaze and crack.
Wait .. was that a scream? He wiped rain drips from his face with a paw and squinted into the night. It was no use he was far enough he could not see anything, especially with the sheeting rain. But that had sounded like rabbit screaming, and he was already out here and soaked through, maybe he should investigate? Thunder was generally an adventurous thrill seeker so it didn't really occur to him that he should fear for himself. With a leap he was off the rock and bounding forward toward the destroyed tree. As he drew near he realized other rabbits were out here as well.Exploring the tree. 182 tw: 776

Dusty was still calling out and keeping watch for nearby rabbits, soaked to the bone. That's when he saw the most incredible thing he'd ever witnessed. Light somehow shot from the sky and attacked a tree that was between his position and the river. The light won, sending the tree to the ground in flames. He was simultaneously thrilled to behold such an unforgettable spectacle and also thoroughly frightened. If lightning could do that to something as strong and giant as a tree, what could it do to a rabbit? Almost in sync to his thoughts a horrible scream followed from that direction. Instantly, he found himself torn between diving to safety or helping the owner of the scream. If the situation was reversed, he'd hope someone would come to his aid. Exploring the tree. They were making good time, almost there. He could even hear his friend calling out, just ahead. Relief started to wash over Buzz until a horrible crack sounded, the closest and worst so far. His view was lighted up, although he wasn't really sure from which direction since he'd had his eyes peeled to the trail. No longer feeling the doe's presence he looked behind him to where the other two rabbits had stopped, staring at something. He followed their gaze to a downed, smoldering tree at the same time a heartrending scream rang out from across the way. One thing at a time, he thought. Organization is best in a crisis. He wanted to help the rabbit in distress but also wanted to complete the first plan before hatching another. They'd made it and he wanted to collect his wits in safety for a minute. There were things to consider and that was hard to do on the run with danger looming overhead. He hopped back to the others and put a paw on each rabbit's shoulder, trying to get them back on track. "Right up ahead guys, we made it." Exploring the tree.WC: 325 TWC: 1,023

Coy, albeit shaking, nodded dumbly towards the dutch buck. "T-Thank you, sir." he wanted to rub up against him and show his thanks, but he figured it best not to. Not during such a tumultuous time. He didn't want the bun to well--think he was weird. At least weirder than he was. The mud that caked the bottom portion of his body didn't even come into play. The speckled buck moved forward, glancing back to make sure that he was headed in the right direction--where the other buck should be. "S-should we help out?" he paused in his tracks, one ear flickering as the weight of the scream started to gnaw at him. It did sound like a good idea. But he didn't want to be rude...He laid his ears back, looking at the other buck for some sort of idea. WC: 142 Total WC: 1706

Every few moments another bright flash lit up the night, followed by a near deafening boom. In between the flashes flickering light from the burning tree prevented the darkness from fully reclaiming the night. Between the thunderclaps everything was eerily silent.
The storm did seem to be moving away, but it was still very close, and perhaps dangerous.

Rabbits are still welcome to join at this stage! This thunderstorm is currently right over head, and your posts should reflect this! Your rabbit may or may not be able to see the fallen tree, but if they are looking they can likely make out the smoldering branches.
Your rabbit may choose to approach the tree. It was a large deciduous tree, and it has now been blown apart by the lightning, and parts of it are on fire. Choosing to approach the tree is not without risk! If your rabbit would like to explore the area immediately around the tree roll 1d20. It was worse than she expected. Justice's ears lay flat as she took in the whole devastation one strike from the sky had done to a tree. It had been a large tree--very sturdy. The plant had probably been there for generations upon generations of bunhood. And it was.....gone. In one strike. The bun's mouth gaped open, partially in awe, the other part of her nervous about life and what was to come of this storm. Every bunny should get into safety---but there were too many out and about. And she wasn't about to leave when there was danger. That just wasn't in her nature. They had all heard a bun scream. Her job was to help and rescue their poor kin. Or die trying. Justice cautiously approached each branch and investigated the wreckage. "Don't get too close to the fire." She barked, deciding that it was best to approach those branches first. There had to be a way to put out the fire...but how? Should they carry water in their mouths and spit on it? No, that wouldn't work. But it wasn't like they could just lay on the fire either! Who could have made the sky this angry?! WC: 202 Total WC: 1908 Exploring the tree.

A deep creaking noise seems to come from the branches nearest to Justice, then a splintering-popping sound. Despite her best intentions to keep a safe distance, one of the flaming branches crashed down onto her.

Justice has been struck by a flaming branch. It is up to you how serious this strike was, and if she's still stuck under the branch. At a minimum she's been clobbered and is in some pain and quite possibly singed.

Justice had been so focused on investigating the flaming parts of the tree on the ground as she tried to suss out a plan to extinguish the fire----that she didn't notice that there were branches up above her that could crashing down. That was, until she heard the creaking noise that came from one of them. Dark brown eyes slowly made their way up to investigate---and widened as they saw that it started to drop. She should have back pedaled, she should have gotten away. But as soon as her back legs started to crouch and back away--it was too late. She got hit. Flames licked at Justice's side, hot and unlike any sensation she had ever experienced before as the branch weight bore down on her. "s**t." Justice held her eyes closed and tried to get up..but it was no use. The branch had her. Was the sky angry at her? She tried wiggling a bit away from the firey side of the branch, hissing all the while as the rough bark scraped against her skin. How was she going to get out? Why did the sky choose her? What did she do to deserve this? WC: 200 Total WC: 2108
