The look on her face was certainly unexpected, more so than Genevieve had been, and it immediately silenced him. He followed her to grab their drinks--and he snagged a little snack bite of some kind of food, he didn't even know what, for the both of them--before she led them to a quiet corner of the party. A feat to find one indeed, but she had always had a knack for impressing him.

He listened to her hushed words and, unlike her, did notice the way her lips brushed his ear, and he couldn't help the flicker of a smile that spread on his lips until she said that. "Mm...well that leaves a rather sour taste in the mouth. Granted I'm not here necessarily for her, I was just being polite--they told me to--but still." He handed her, her share of the snack bites before biting into his own, processing the information. Granted it was a rumor and he didn't personally know or have anything against their hostess, but he did trust Kethra. Quite a bit, actually.

"Well," he said, wrapping his drink-arm around her shoulders to guide them slowly back to the gala. "She'll be busy so we might only see her once or twice tonight. No big deal there. Let's just enjoy tonight, since we're here anyway. I was told to network but," he glanced around and his lip curled at the idea of having to make nice with all these people. "I'll network another time. Maybe when I'm in more comfortable clothes. Speaking of which, you look really nice tonight. I had a thought earlier and realized I hadn't mentioned it."

He took a sip of his drink and finished off his snack. "Normally you're always trying to hit me. Sparring and all."

"It does, I agree." She said, regarding the sour taste, though she did not comment further. She just accepted her share of the snack, gazing quietly at the nearest piece of whatever... Her eyes were pointed at it, but she was not focused on it at all. She nibbled it quietly, wondering softly why she was never any good at the more... feminine things, and if she would always feel this lonely when she was around Daryn, when other women noticed him.

She might have said something to excuse herself, to go collect herself, when she found herself with his ram around her shoulders all of a sudden. That, she had not expected, and she felt her cheeks go warm, pink, and she glanced at him, eyes wide and surprised. "I... Yes, I suppose that is a good point. She is busy." She listened to his choice to not network, and instead enjoy the evening... And then he complimented her, and she blushed again, going from pink to a red tinge this time.

"Ah? I... Thank you. It's not the most comfortable, but I am glad I look nice." She lowered her eyes, biting her lip, suddenly very confused by all of this. He had flirted with Genevieve, kissed her hand, treated her as a woman, not a comrade. He normally treated her as a comrade, though she had thought she had caught him watching her, sometimes, in other ways... Until he flirted, that is, with Genevieve, and then she had told herself she had just misunderstood.

She let him guide her, though she was confused internally. His last words made her even more confused... Part of her took it to mean he did not find her attractive, part of it took it as 'I don't get to see this side of you much.' and she was not sure which was true.

"I mean... We see each other, most often, on the training grounds. Outside of that, I mean... We write to each other but do not get to see each other as often as might be nice, thanks to duty."

Would he hear that as she meant it...?

"She is busy, that's right. And I doubt people considered sensibility when coming up with formal clothes," he said before taking another sip. He paused when he saw a familiar face and waved with his now free hand, though immediately afterward he occupied it with his champagne flute so he could keep his arm comfortably around her shoulders without risking a spill. "They thought of beauty and dashing and wonder," he said, then glanced down a his own formal wear and added, "though my people might have sooner considered bathroom attire instead."

He said all this while her cheeks went from the usual tan to pink to red, and by the time he looked back down at her he noted the red with quiet curiosity and the brief thought that it was rather...

"Mm...true," he said, considering her words and what she meant by it. He shared the sentiment; she was a good...someone...to him, always nice to be around and he really enjoyed spending time with her whether it involved work or simply just to spend time if she was passing through and had a free day. He was mostly stuck at Tiryns, of course, doing his work there and rarely stepping foot outside save for if they truly needed his services elsewhere or to spar on the training grounds. "The arrangement right now is less than ideal, maybe, but it helps that we at least have that."

He paused and waved again at a familiar face. "In any case, that arrangement usually means I don't get to see this side of you much, if at all, and I do think it's nice."

He paused again and gave a little smirk. "Heels included."

"Mmm well, I wish things could be beautiful or dashing, without them being uncomfortable. Be glad you do not need high heels." She was also glad she had been able to not wear the Official Formal Wear of Cheomseongdae for this. It was far worse, in her mind. Tailored-to-her, militaristic uniform-ish looking, the only positive side was it had pants, not a dress. The version for her, the female version of it, had heels too.

She much preferred her outfit when she was acting as Page Cheomseongdae, rather then the official-not-powered-up clothing.

"Yes, we do have that... Maybe I can come visit sometime soon? You could give me a proper tour of your Wonder, you've never really had time for that." She did not get the chance to visit him enough, but she would do her best to change that, if it meant spending more time with him. Especially if she was not wrong, and he DID look at her in other ways then as just a comrade.

She wished she understood people's subcontext to their words better, though.

She glanced at who he waved at, curiously, but did not recognize them, and refocused on him. His words again had her cheeks warming to that pink tone again, though her lips curved up into a soft, sweet smile. "Well, even if your outfit might not be to your tastes, you look very nice too."

And then the smirk, which made her blush a little more, which was then followed by his comment, which made her both wrinkle her nose at him for it, but also wonder if she could learn to walk better in heels if he liked how she looked in them. "Maybe you can wear the heels next time, see how you like it." Was all she said, however.

"Be glad your formal wear isn't a glorified bath robe," he said, again with that smirk, before he sipped at his drink. "And of course, you know you're more than welcome to visit whenever you can or want to. I'll make time for a tour and everything this time, too, you just tell me when." He finished off his drink and set it on a passing server's tray while at the same time picking up another to make sure he still had a beverage.

"Mm...thank you for being so kind," he said, though her response to his little heels comment had his expression flattening out a little at the idea of learning how to put up with heels. "I...think I would rather wear these bath robes for the rest of eternity, thank you for that." Daryn laughed though, a rich, and rare, sound for him, and they walked on.

It was some time before they made it to a curious tapestry, and he tilted his head as they observed it. "A piece about...dreams? Longing? What do you think?"

Sylmare brightened immediately, starting to dig around in the folds of their dragging sleeves for the pockets hidden there. Fumbling, they nodded eagerly at the introduction.

“Pleasure! Charmed, quiet charmed, of course.” They said, distracted by their rumaging. “Kuichi is one of the Vesta family, if I remember correctly? How delightful. Ah!”

The page pulled a small device from within the brocade and blinked owlishly at the bright knight that joined them, glittering and pale. The flirtation washed over them with hardly a ripple before they blinked again and beamed, straightening the branching circlet they wore. It pulled a few pale strands from the many-stranded braid that ran down their back, adding to the wisps around their long face.

“Ah! Chauvet. How lovely. I was just going to show Glynvalur some holos, but you may enjoy them as well!” They beamed. The round bit of tech in their long hands was fumbled and a button depressed, an image springing to life above it. A pale, shimmering creature ran in the air, all fluid grace and floating hair, a horn spiraling up from its forehead.

“Hercynia Sylva is, of course, the largest preserve of Unicorns existent on Earth at this time, but despite our best efforts, poaching and their tendency to have only one foal every few decades has severely depleted the population on the planet. I have been working very hard to spread information about them… information is the first step to conservation!” Sylmare said raptly, waving a finger upwards. They seemed quite set to rattle on in that vein, now that they had a willing audience. “We have been searching for partners willing to start their own breeding programs, Glynvalur, and spread the species to other worlds with hospitable environments, where they may thrive under careful tending. But we are not a charity, of course! Unicorns are marvelous beasts and there are many ways to utilize the magic they generate without harming them, something that could be quite profitable for their caretakers. I would be quite happy to discuss such with you, and make an arrangement for you to perhaps visit our preserve and see our work first hand.”

They flipped through a few of the holograms they had, showing unicorns doing the things any animal did… sleeping, raising young, running majestically through a forrest of sunbeams.

"Mmm no, it's a formalized military outfit with ridiculous amounts of ornate medals to mark my position, and has stupid little high heeled boots." She said, sound a little irritable thinking about it. She would have to wear it when she was invested as a Squire, and then she would have to wear an even more ridiculous one once she made Knight. Hopefully, she would be able to avoid ever wearing it again.

"I will have to plan a visit soon, then, Daryn. I would love to visit your hot springs. I hear they are wonderful for relaxation and the skin." She gave him a bright smile, her green eyes already thinking about the visit, and trying to see when she would have time for several days in a row for a proper visit.

"Not being kind, being honest. It flatters you, even if you think you look like you're wearing a bathrobe. It's elegant and understated, but shows off your physique. Given how much you work on that, you should be glad."

She turned to look at the tapestry, curiously taking in all the details, and finally she said "Longing, and beauty, hope and adventure..." She said softly.

He had always found the Cosmos style very...unique. Colorful, fluid, elegant...granted perhaps not ideal for battle, at least if he went by the types of outfits he'd seen on Cosmos knights in his short tenure. Her irritation at the thought of her uniform was rather amusing, though he kept his thoughts to himself and simply let his smile speak for him on the matter.

"Relaxation and recovery is the name of the game at Tiryns," he said, returning her smile with a rather bright one of his own. "I look forward to hearing from you about your visit."

"Mm, being both kind and honest," he insisted, though not in a pushy way. Just...he really didn't like his formal wear and she wasn't likely to change his mind. "That it shows off my physique is perhaps the only silver lining, the rest..." He waved his hand to hopefully dismiss the topic. He would push for a change in formal wear in the future; it was a small matter and, if he were being honest, rarely worn in the first place.

He thought on her words with regards to the tapestry, soon nodding slightly in agreement. "I can see what you mean. It's a thoughtful piece, makes one...wonder? If you'll pardon the pun."

"A, yes. The Vesta family." That was something of a surprise, to find someone who knew that. With so many stars, planets, asteroids and what not in space to find someone who knew where a star, planet, or asteroid belonged was rather surprising. It was too much to keep track of. Though perhaps this knight only knew a few such locations and his just happen to be one of them.

As he stood listening, with rapt attention, to the knight his eyes were focused on the pictures. "My home has a rather damp, misty, sort of climate. It can get chilly at night - very chilling during the colder periods we have. But we could bring them inside to help combat that - assuming it would be an issue. The warm times we have are nice, we have fertile land with lots of open spaces. it would bring a new industry to Kiuchi - one that would benefit many. I'm sure the people would take to it well." Speaking rather slowly, though there was a certain excitement in his words. This would be good for his people, it may even help in ending the war. If they could find something to transition people to, other than war and creating weapons, it would help. If would keep them from having an economic issue once fighting stopped, if it stopped. He did want it to stop - it needed to.

"I'd like to travel to your preserve and see things first hand. I would like to learn what is needed and how to go about things. You can visit Kiuchi then and see what things may be an issue and will need to be worked on, something we'll do - of course." He was willing to help, not just for his own home worlds reasons but to preserve something so lovely.

"I hope we can help you and your preserve in fulfilling it's wish." To preserve the unicorns. It would, he hoped, prove fruitful and they would be able to help.

"Are any other places assisting in this effort as of yet? Or are you still looking for help?" Looking toward the lady of the night he smiled. "It is lovely that this event has allowed for this meeting; is it not? This gathering is lovelier than I thought it could be. A lovely host, a grande setting, and good conversations."

She glanced up, and saw that smile, and made a slight face at him, though she said nothing more on it, not wanting to think too deeply about the uniform, or the day she had to wear it.

It was coming soon, and that was a day that weighed heavily upon the young woman.

"I think I shall definitely have to go soon, then. I could use a break." A time to relax was exactly what she needed to help her escape from the pressures of following in her Grandfather's vaunted footsteps. He had selected her, of all of her siblings and cousins, as the one to be the next Knight of Cheomseongdae, and it had been not what anyone had expected. Now her mother and father were proud of her, but always reminding her of her duty to her family from her father, and her responsibility to live up to her Grandfather's legacy. Failure was not an option she could bring herself to consider.

But this meant she needed a break, a moment to step away and give her the freedom to remember being just Kethra. One good side to all of this was that she probably would never have met Daryn if she had not been selected, but now she had.

"If you say so, I will not argue." She gave a slight shrug under his strong arm, and chuckled at the rest of his words on the subject, smiling at him sidelong. She did like seeing him wearing this outfit.

She wondered if he was expected, should he wed, to wear that to the wedding. Her cheeks went slightly pink for a moment, as she imagined a wedding... And then she pushed the thought aside.

"Mmm ahaha, yes. It does. Would you like to see what I sent, the telescope we were discussing? Did you send something?"

He gently squeezed her shoulder, knowing all too well the burden that falls on one's shoulders once they're chosen as the next to take on the Knight title. "We all could, and I like to think my wonder is a great starting point for one." He smiled proudly at that, loving the fact that he got to share the best his Wonder had to offer to anyone he chose. And he rarely chose; he was rather protective...maybe even a little possessive, one could say...with his Wonder.

When she mentioned her telescope his mouth turned into a little "o" as he nodded. "Sure. A telescope from Cheomseongdae, huh? Must be nice. And the council sent something, a pitcher? Old ceramic thing, it's got history and was literally on a pedestal until they sent it here to be preserved for eternity." He slipped his arm off of her shoulders and gestured forward.

"Lead the way to your telescope?"

Kethra laughed and said "I will try, Daryn, but I can't promise I will find it quickly. I have no idea where in all of these displays Genevieve put it. We might find your ancient pitcher first. If we do, tell me, so I can see it?" She smiled at him, and began to move towards the various artifacts and arts on display, taking in the details of the many donated, bought or... otherwise... objects Genevieve had collected as she hunted for the telescope.

She noticed some things, including a manuscript, a lovely plant with leaves in gem tones, and more, but she had not yet spotted her telescope. She knew it was here, Genevieve would NEVER put one of the treasures she had collected where others could not see it... It would add nothing to her glory or her importance if it was not visible... But Kethra could not figure out the logic of the displays, and it was beginning to bother her.

Scholomance (Blaine)

"Hmm?" Blaine turned toward his near casualty, peering out his mask of splintered bone to see someone who probably outranked him in every way. He knew only a few of the people here, but he knew each of them to possess vast power — sometimes ruling an entire planet. They needn't talk to him for anything unless they needed to contract his services.

But once Blaine scrubbed the shocked gape from his face, he shifted the glass from hand to hand and confirmed her words by looking at the artifact. "Oh, yes. My Wonder is a research institution dedicated to magic, and this was one of my predecessor's achievements. He worked with magic as energy, worked with a lot of ward studies, and found a way to weave wards into clothing. It was in development for six years, and now any diplomat can purchase the materials when heading into high conflict areas." He drank half his glass in a gulp.

And since anyone could figure it out by looking at it — "This was the one made for the Scholomance knight." He gave her a brittle smile, something between I don't want to be here, there's too many people and I'm so stressed that smiling hurts. Decidedly it was more like a grimace. "Which is, well, me. Blaine van der Linden." The blonde knight gave a short bow.

He spoke too much; she must be ready to leave. Should he ask her about her world or wonder? Probably not — she had better company to keep.

Her laugh was always nice to hear, and he chuckled in turn because her words were certainly true. The gallery felt massive, and to try and find two of the numerous displays seemed a big task. "I will point the pitcher out to you if I see it," he said through a lingering smile. The amusement at the idea that they would struggle to simply find their two offerings to the gallery had yet to disappear, clearly. And so they walked and searched, saw the various items in their splendor and beauty, though like Kethra he saw no rhyme nor reason to the order of anything.

"Harder than I thought," he admitted after a while. Still he searched on, though, until he spotted one, some feet ahead to their left. "There! The pitcher...damn thing looks so out of place," he said on a sigh but led the way to it anyway. "It could at least shimmer or something, right?"

The page nodded vigorously, the hologram bouncing as their hand did.

"Unicorns do best in forested areas where they can escape predators, and hunters, by utilizing dense underbrush. They are quite adept at finding places to slip through that would confound any other beast. Boggy areas and marshlands are not as good, as they are hoofed beasts and do best on firm ground, but they are quite delicate in their movements and I have seen them do well enough, once established. They do tend to be shy, but I have seen them used as a tourist attraction and its gone fairly well... the risk for poaching goes up, when you spread it around that you have such creatures, but the many benefits of Unicorns is well worth the trials, in my humble opinion." Sylmare bowed their head with a smile, hand to their chest.

It took a moment for them to follow the train of the other's thoughts but they finally blinked and nodded, making a warm noise in their throat.

"Oh yes, the party is quite lovely! All the artwork is splendid, of course. Chauvet has done a wonderful job of collecting and displaying it all. I must confess I'm not normally one to attend such things, but I couldn't pass up the chance. I'm very pleased that I came... I only wish I had brought something to add to the collection!" They said with a frown that wrinkled their forehead and the corner of their eyes. Mouth turned down, they absently patted about their lanky person, feeling for pockets hidden in the folds.

"Oh! Yes... Chauvet." They said as they proffered the small projector in their long hand. "If you would like, I could offer this collection of footage? I admit its not nearly as showy or fine as some of your other pieces, but... well. Nothing about Hercynia, I'm afraid, is quite as fine as the Gallery of Chauvet."
