Ehh....

Well that was fair enough, nobody had butted into Lith's hatching with their opinions right? Right. Ugh.

V' grunted and gave a slightly reluctant but still sincere; "Sorry, they're beautiful. Oh, did that green just-?" Yes, looked like the second hatchling had Impressed safe; V' rolled her shoulders and tried to do as M'li said - enjoy the hatching, don't worry about the rest right now. "Good to see another green Impress safe right? We need every one of them we can get."

Aessa had been watching the dragonet when a bump in the sand sent her down. A reflexive step back wasn't quite fast enough, though, as the green's tail swept her feet away. The girl landed on her back and shoulders in a thin shower of sand with a grunt and rolled to her knees, honestly thinking more about getting the hot sands out of her mouth than away from dragonclaw. That, however, was a boonful turn to take, so... two wherries, one stone, she guessed, as she worked to brush sand off her tongue.

Another dragon gone, another girl ... surely it was time for the boys to Impress? Farellen sighed and shifted more as the heat bled through the leather soles. So few eggs and babies. NO, he wouldnt be bitter or upset, that could leak to the babies, positive thoughts... positive thoughts...

~~~~~~
Serfie didn't even notice the mottled green Impress, her focus on not being noticed, she moved more into the crowd as the poor dark striped green stumbled, she narrowly avoided getting hit by her. Her heart felt like it was going to thud out of her chest and there was a huge lump in her throat, she glanced away at the other eggs around but her focus came back to shadow, the only egg she'd managed to touch before she'd lost her nerve and fled back to the shadows off the tunnels, she hoped if she gave it her undivided attention, it wouldn't tell on her.
M’li smiled at her friend. She’d be happy to lend an ear after the hatching finished. “That’s alright dear. I don’t think they noticed.” M’li made a happy noise in the back of her throat as the first green chose her rider. “I wonder what they’ll do when they have so many greens clutching all at once. The hatching sands may not be big enough for them all.” Perhaps they’d limit the number of greens that were allowed to clutch? Meh. Hatching. Baby dragons. Much better.
The eggs continued to rock. Maroon Red Egg shook and shimmied. The occupant seemed to suddenly feel the call, the need to be free. The egg toppled over before it split apart disgorging it’s brown contents across the sands. There that was better. Or was it? Maroon Red Brown had completed that task. Now what? His eyes started to whirl an angry red. Now what was he supposed to do?
Starelth gave an encouraging thrum to her children. Gently my children. Pick yourself up. Her eyes turned to her confused brown. Do not fret dear one. You’re next task is to find Yours.
Dark Purple Green wasn’t the only one to spit sand from her mouth. She gave a glance toward the girl she’d accidentally knocked down. Picking herself back up she made her way among the candidates looking. Her eyes shading toward yellow with each new candidate she turned down.
Toward the back Dark Purple Green passed by Abrila. She stopped and looked back over her shoulder at the candidates, as if giving one last look for a certain person, and confirming they were not there. Her head turned to point up at the Stands. Your Verath is where she is supposed to be MaddeckMine. Why aren’t you?
Candidate Turanves
Eggs hatched. Which he took as a good sign. First a blue, then a green. Things looked off to a very slow start, as a third one, a bronze, hatched and ran in the opposite direction from the candidates. What the shaft? Weren't they looking for them?
Nope the bronze ended up playing with trundlebugs (of all things!) before picking his rider. The blue was still sitting there like a lump on a log. Turan rolled his eyes. He watched as the two greens moved among the candidates. One picked a girl and the other from the stands. Maroon Red Egg split apart and revealed a handsome brown who looked upset about something.
Aessa looked up at the green, before finally climbing back to her feet, giving one more wipe at her mouth to try and dislodge the sand. She was sure she'd be digging it out of her teeth until she got some water, or some Klah... and other places long beyond that. As she patted her robe back into play and hunted down her sandals, she pushed those thoughts away. They weren't helpful, and might confuse the hatchlings, and aside from some mild discomfort and a whiplike bruise against the backs of her legs, she was no worse for wear.
She looked up in time to watch the maroon egg split and ungracefully deposite an angry little wyrm on the sands, finding him adorable despite it, and shifted gently out of the way of the once-again wandering green, to whom she gave a gentle nod of the head.
Chellemana // Candidate / Apprentice Winemaker
Chelle was not sure where to look now. The Bronze dug holes instead of looking for Candidates. Was he looking for someone down there in the sand? Meanwhile, his two siblings, Blue and Green, were just sitting there. Were they waiting for someone to come to them? Someone should tell them the way it was supposed to work. Not that Chelle believed in following the rules all the time. She started to shuffle closer to them, acting as if the hot sand was bothering her feet.
With her attention averted, she missed the bronze finding his prize. She saw him when he came by though, and peered at the trundlebug. How peculiar. "Nice catch," she grinned. But then he moved on, and Impressed to a boy she didn't know.
- - -
Nashanna // Candidate / Apprentice Glassmaker
Like her sibling, Nashanna was not sure where to look. Her attention was not on the bronze, but the sitting siblings and the green with a shell hat. And the remaining eggs. They rocked, furiously determined to break free: Shadow and Teal Stripe. Oh don't tell me that's all you've got. Just because you think you're the best does not mean you should come out last! She let that slip as she looked at Shadow Egg Oops. Now what was she supposed to do? She looked up at their mother, curiously.
She did not get her answer however, as she felt a tug on the back of her robe. It saved her from a long gash along her back side. Gasping, she saw the green sprawled behind her. "Oh no! Are you okay?" Feeling no further tug on her garment, the hatchling was free, but... she seemed okay. Just a mouthful of sand. With a surprised smirk, she watched the little green go off on her way and on to the Stands where she called out to her new rider. For his part the young healer looked absolutely dumbfounded.
Meanwhile a brown hatched and seemed upset about something. Nassah watched him with curiosity.
- - -
Rothgar // Candidate / Apprentice Beastcrafter
That bronze was wack. There was a trundlebug in his mouth and he was showing it to everyone like an extremely proud toddler. Rothgar could not help but think the little Bronze was adorable for it. He hoped the boy he chose a moment later would do him proud as well.
When the Green with an eel stripe tripped in the sand (and seemed just fine), a girl went down with her. He was about to ask if she was all right when she got back to her feet on her own. Keeping his eye on her an instant more, he turned back to the rest.
A Brown and a Blue currently remained without their future riders. Who would they choose?
- - -
Maddeck // Standidate / Apprentice Healer
One of the darker eggs broke and Maddeck began to feel a pull. It was vague and at the time he thought nothing of it. She was busy with her sister as she headbutted her head free and later shattered her shell with a distinct effort. When she fell in the sand, he was watching. He looked at her to see if she was all right, not the Candidates as he should have done. He didn't notice the difference. Then she came to him.
Why was he not on the Sands? "Why, I am not a Candidate," he replied, finally rising to his feet. "But I will be there with you, Verath."
Demanthra/Candidate/Harper Apprentice (least for the beginning of the post lol)
Demanthra saw the blue still sitting there, he seemed very intent on thinking about something. Hopefully he would work on finding his rider soon, then maybe his rider could help him with whatever was keeping his mind whirring. She also noticed the green who had hatched from magenta speckle seemed very intent on watching her sibling. Then seemed upset about something, before moving to sit nearer to the clutch. Hmm, she wondered if she wanted more of her siblings to come out. A smile came to her lips as the little green greeted her mother, she really was a cute little thing. Then one of the other eggs opened, to reveal a bronze. Wow, for a second time, a green had clutched a bronze. So it seemed the greens really were capable of more than they had originally thought, she mused. Like his siblings, he was definitely a handsome thing.
Hello little one! I do hope you find your rider, they will be glad to have you,she addressed him. She didn't think he was her's, but she supposed anything was possible. After all, one of their leaders was a female bronzerider, so things were definitely changing from how they once were. Her eyes turned back to the little green, as she seemed to be looking at her brothers. As the bronze gave her a little, she seemed happy, until he walked away and she let out a soft sad sound. Her heart went out to the baby, she just wanted some attention, least that was how it looked now. When she went to sit beside the blue, but he seemed too busy thinking, she couldn't help but feel bad for her.
It is okay, little one, more of your siblings will hatch. Maybe one of them will play with you,she thought to the green. As if in agreement with her words, more of the eggs began to rock. That included dark purple egg, that brought forth another little green. Then the first green went over to greet her sister, causing her to smile a little more. That was when she noticed this darker green seemed to be stuck in her egg. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the bronze seeming to be..digging?! What for, she wasn't sure, until she saw him pull out a trundle bug. She had to cover a laugh seeing him show it off to some of the other candidates, before stopping before one of the boys and impressing. Good, that was one baby safely with their rider, now for the others. Her attention turned back to them, just as dark purple green managed to get free of her egg. This green headed right for them, she seemed ready to get to picking her rider.
Meanwhile, it seemed the magenta speckle green was feeling what she imagined was lonely. The sad peep made her hold a hand over her heart, willing the baby to find her rider. Oh, how she just wanted to hug the baby and let her know she wasn't alone. However, she knew this was not allowed, so she sent warm thoughts to the little green instead. It seemed her siblings doing other things had prompted her to get up and head over to the candidates. As the green came over to the girls, she noticed her go past two of her fellow candidates. Maybe one of them might be..nope, seemed she was wrong as she continued on. What she did not expect was the green to come and sit down beside her.
Hello little one, once again. Has looking for your rider tired you out a little, I can understand that. Well, feel free to sit with me as long as you need to,she assured to the green gently. The urge to hug the baby was even more now, but again, she reminded herself it wasn't her dragon to touch. At least that is what she thought, just as the other green took a spill, along with another girl. She sent encouraging thoughts to her too, just before she noticed the green beside her was leaning closer. It seemed that additional greeting was all she needed, as rainbow eyes met her own blue-green eyes.
Thank you for talking to your Darath, DemanthraMine. We need never be lonely again.came the voice in her head, as soft as a spring rain. As much as her family had explained impression, feeling it was a whole other matter. She felt Darath's mind and her's link together, she felt their two beings becoming one.
Of course, Darath dear, how could I not talk to you. And no, we shall never be lonely again, my precious girl,she thought, finally accepting the urge to wrap her arms tightly around the green...her green. She sunk to her knees, hugging her baby dragon.
Mine, can we get some food please? Maybe some of my siblings will have time to play now,Darath thought hopefully. Demanthra laughed lightly, before nodding her head. She got to her feet, before leading her soulmate over to where the Weyrlings would gather, to get a bucket with food and a knife.
Fisher / Candidate
Fisher couldn't say she knew much about dragons personally, but she did know that getting knocked over was unavoidable (in that they were told not to move) and that red eyes (like on that brown) weren't exactly good things. Still, neither event boded as immediate danger and thus the teen continued to stay where she was. One of the greens from before brushed past her, prompting a yawn that Fisher had to stifle without being able to open her mouth.
It wasn't that she was bored - far from it - it was just the warmth of the sands could make anyone standing upon them rather sleepy. The excitement of what was going on in front of her was sure to wake her up more and more though once a few more eggs started to crack, plus there were people around her starting to Impress too. There was even someone pulled from the stands down - was that normal?
Anyway, the only two heads she counted out now were the very first blue (you okay there, Mr. Not Moving?) and the upset over life brown. Neat.
Maroon Red Brown gave a thankful croon to his mother. Now he knew what to do! Picking himself off the sands he shook egg goop and sand from his dark extremities. He cruised down to get a close up and personal view of each candidate. You? Or you? No you?
Maroon Red Brown rubbed up against Turnaves, looking as if he’d impressed, but then turned away. He then approached Aessa Hello I am… oh sorry. The brown ducked his head awkwardly, this wasn’t his rider. How about these? Maroon Red Brown trundled up to Chellemana, Are you…. Oops.. He turned to Nashanna and leaned against her, Would you… wrong again. Clearly he was rushing it and getting mixed up, only to realize at the last second.
Teal Stripe Egg began to shake in earnest. The tiny egg was really rock-n-rolling. Small fractures appeared slowly around it’s surface as though the raised ridges didn’t want to let the occupant go. With a groan the shell finally gave way. When the tiny hatchling stood up, it was quick to note there was several features unusual about this baby.
Teal Stripe Hatchling was a very, very dark across most of it’s body, so dark it almost looked black. Was it a super dark blue or green? The second thing those close up would notice was her upper teeth extended past her upper lip. As the hatchling wobbled free of the eggshell remains, her belly was a slightly lighter color of a definite green, though it boarded unusually close to blue.
Fisher / Candidate
Having a clutch full of greens was good, right? With the whole golds all dying and greens having babies now. Fisher had heard the stories while out at sea and to actually see it up close and be standing for a clutch of a green was pretty cool. Regardless of the outcome she'd have stories to share with her dads when she got back.
Except though it looked as though this green was....well, unique. Was that a result of not being hatched from golds? The fisher wasn't in any state to judge since she'd never seen a "traditional" hatching and as far as the future of Pern was concerned, all of this here would be the norm. Dragons with very clear . . . .faults? Traits? What exactly would someone call all the little bits here and there on the dragonets?
But whatever! The brown was moving, did he impress? Fisher raised an eyebrow and watched, wondering just what was happening as the baby paused, then moved, then paused again.
Aessa watched at the Maroon-brown finally stopped whirling red in the eyes and worked to his claws, seeming much relieved now. She felt relieved herself, and watched the brown work towards the group in easy, confident strides. Had he-no, no rainbows.
He came up to her and held her breath as a fuzzy, distant sort of greeting passed halfway through her mind before the dragon just turned off. She felt... Dismissed, almost, but not rudely. His magic just wasn't hers, and her eyes followed his retreat. She watched him for a few more moments as he continued to tease the candidates, however accidentally, before the sounds of a shell giving way like a prawn at dinner demanded her attention. It took a hot moment on the sands for that egg to rattle itself to pieces, but finally it released-...
A BLACK DRAGON!? Wait, what!? Was that possible?
She stared at it in disbelief, trying to decide what color the dragon was as its adorable overbite graced the sands with its appearance. Finally, she decided it didn't matter. Color, overbite, the little beast was beautiful, and any candidate should be proud just to lay eyes on it.
Candidate Turanves
Whatever had upset the brown didn't seem to linger as the brown, unlike some of his siblings, went toward the candidates. Turan got excited when the brown came to rub up against him. He waited expectantly for those rainbow eyes to turn to him and the brown claim him..... but then the brown turned away.
He seemed to be going to a lot of them in fact. Turan blinked curiously. Did he not know who his rider was? It left a bitter taste in his mouth though to be left there.
Maroon Red Brown continued to search diligently. It was clear he was a dragon on a mission and nothing was going to stop him. Gently he nosed aside candidates after checking to see if they were The One. He’d look all day if he had to.
Thankfully for him and everyone else, Maroon Red Brown didn’t have to look too much further. The brown approached Fisher with rainbow in his eyes. There you are FisherMine. I’ve done as I was told. Won’t you tell your Clauth what to do next?
(Holy snickerdoodle brownie Dragon, batman!)
Aessa kept track of the dragons; the cute little black with an overbite (Blue? Green? Oh, but she was SO hoping for a closer view soon! So dark was a rarity, despite there being some obvious color variation in this batch. Maybe it was like whites dragons, just opposite of the color spectrum?) and the blue that had hatched from the hide-like leather-orange egg. There was so much to see this hatching. And the brown seemed to have finally found the one he was looking for, done with the teasy traipse around the group.
