Curiosity to see what thoughts or questions would come up, and how General Faustite would handle them had been reason enough to remain at the side of the room and work on finishing her pipe. General Snek’s two cents were just about what was expected. She smiled around stem, then lifted the pipe other young general’s direction. “Flair enough you’re still awake, General. But don’t be gauche—throwing fireworks into other officer’s stomachs isn’t until second party, and a bag of hash is at least fourth.”

"Unless you need the harder items so that you can chase dragon Apatite's tail for a spiritual Q&A."

"If we are seriously putting down firework show in stomachs, invite me in." Pyrophanite grinned, "I'm not a spiritual type anyways. How come you didn't mention the abilities of youma's. Like the flower youma mentioned magic but you guys didn't emphasize on all the sorts of changes we go through."

He pointed a finger at Faustite, "Speaking of fireworks in the stomach." Since Pyro didn't answer to any other generals or a more experienced one. "You ever tell your lieutenants the reasons why they can't go into the rift?" Pyro cocked his head.

"Whats the difference between a greater youma and an older youma ey?" That was a legit question, because Pyro wanted to know more about what Mamushii had been. He always thought the snake was all powerful but....he had just recently learned of greater youma.

"What happens when a greater youma merges with a nega agent?"

Sylvite had mixed feelings about youma. Like, they had their uses, maybe, in theory, and some of them looked pretty cool. The half-youma she liked for sure, at least in theory, although it turned out they could be just as good or bad underneath their pretty eyes as anyone else could be. The for-sure, real youma, the ones that were always sneaking around the city at the edge of her aura she didn't like as much. They made people not like the Negaverse. Also, her recruitment had involved almost getting eaten by one, which had not been a fun time.

She still showed up early, sitting cross-legged in a front row seat with her tablet in hand. This was something important. This was something she could learn about. This was something that could either go really, really bad, or really, really good.

She watched Faustite as he stepped up and turned out to actually be a pretty decent host. She nodded along as a few generals came up and talked about the advantages of youma, bonds, uses, all sorts of stuff. She waved at Vitriol when he stepped up and tried to cheer him on as much as she could with a smile while he talked. She scribbled some notes down when they got to the youma are a senshi curse part of things. That made a lot of sense, actually.

But out of all of them, the the talk from the super pretty pink flower youma Euphoria was the one that had her slack-jawed and staring bright eyed the entire time. It was mostly because of the youma herself, who was pink and covered in petals and didn't look at all like something you'd find behind a dumpster. Then when she started playing with plants, Sylvite let out an audible gasp. Magic.

She was quick to raise a hand during the question portion. "Euphoria, hi," she said first, with a wave, then quickly asked, "Are there a lot of youma like you in the Rift? Like, with magic?" She'd said there were some but Sylvite wanted to know just how hard it was gonna be to find one.

There were some people talking loudly about stuff like fireworks and greater youma, which would have caught her attention if she didn't have something quite so cool to focus on.

General Jet

Jet ignored Aquamarine’s sarcastic comment, and instead tried to listen in on the answers to the questions being asked. He would very much like to know why a General thought it was a good idea to attempt to promote someone as he had. He supposed things could have been different back then, but still, why would anyone make that attempt? To prove their power? He wasn’t sure.

“Mmm…” he made a noise in response to the comment about youma being more trouble than they were worth, but he suspected that Aquamarine didn’t really think that, but was rather trying to find a way to talk him out of whatever he was planning.

Not that he was going to tell anyone else what he was planning. He didn’t want to risk anyone else’s lives. He knew if he mentioned his plan to Aquamarine or Seraphinite, that they would undoubtedly want to go with him, but he couldn’t risk that. They were better alive than they were youma food.

“Gadolinite,” he greeted in slight surprise as he looked up at the taller man. It was good to see him there, but he was wary of the others that he didn’t know very well. “There haven’t been many seminars, so I’m not sure. It’s good to know the information. I’m grateful for that. Maybe there will be more of these in the future,” he suggested with a small shrug. He didn’t have a topic he could think of that would need a whole seminar, but he wouldn’t be against more.

“Sorry, I guess trying to find a personal youma doesn’t really matter for senshi. Your energy is probably too irresistible to youma. Probably why they tend to ignore the fact that you’re part of the Negaverse too,” he suggested, although frowned after a moment. “I don’t want you going near the Rift unless there’s a specific reason or mission. You either, Aqua,” he added with a glance over his shoulder to the bored blond.

Eternal Kamacite

“I would have told everyone that they should be submitting to your rule over them,” Kamacite said quietly, still looking over the tops of the chairs to try and see what Aue, and anyone else for that matter, was doing.

There was a pause before Kamacite glanced up at his General, “A joke, sir.” He couldn’t exactly claim to have the best jokes, or good jokes at all, but with the tension and curious looks he was receiving, he figured he should say something.

Kamacite shook his head and let out a breath he’d been holding. There were too many people. He wished he could sneak out without anyone noticing, but now that he could see Aue and know he might be getting himself into a debate with a General, well… he couldn’t exactly leave yet.

“I would not dream to assume I know anything about youma, or the hardships you face,” he offered instead. It was true though. He wouldn’t have known what to speak about. For one, they wouldn’t have been able to get him up in front of everyone. And two, he maybe would have suggested that everyone look beyond what they might consider monsters, because youma, half or otherwise, were still human. And full youma once were human.

Youma General Faustite

Quote:
Added lesson is in bold if anyone is curious about youma abilities!

The first to speak to em was the same senshi Noctua wanted to find — the same one immortalized on a tablet screen, lightly grainy, listed as the first and only of her kind. How ironic, then, that Alkaid showed at the seminar while Noctua was away in Witzend. Away proving herself, doubtless, so she may reach that same state of being. And near her, not half as cracked but twice as mortified, was an officer clinging like a leech. Lieutenant, possibly.

Faustite's gaze did not linger on her; instead, it settled on the source of the question. "Curing her would mean no rampant hatred of our senshi — we would have no more youma, no more Rift. I think it's something I don't want — and that it's beside the point." Faustite turned to pace, so stream eir smoke across the ceiling in slow lines. "We've no orders to lift it. No clues. No trustworthy ratiocinations on which we can rely. Magic taught us possibilities beyond what mundane life affords, which means lifting that curse would be a lifelong pursuit, or more. Maybe solved by time beyond human lifetimes, or by feeding more starseeds than the Earth holds, or by a magical articulation no one remembers anymore.

"But as for ending this war? I wouldn't exist if I thought it impossible. But my reasons are better left off-stage — find me afterward if you want to talk."

Faustite halted near the center once more. Pyro called, flagrantly drew the attention of Schörl, and received banter enough that he felt himself encouraged to go on. Please, get her to notice you. She'll find so much material to work with. Eir composure faltered, flickered, blazed, righted itself. What goes in my stomach isn't your business.

The much easier answers came first. "If I had new lieutenants, General, I would tell them. Speak if you have more to add on those warnings." Faustite watched him, warily, for a moment longer before deviating to the next question. Should he decide to announce more about the Rift to their occupancy, he would have ample time for it.

"Any youma can be old, but only the ones nurturing colossal power can be greater. I don't know how they differ beyond that. I never met one. And I don't know what would happen should one choose to merge with an agent. You've more experience with merges than me." Which left, unfortunately, his first comments.

Faustite breathed a smoky sigh. Magic implies endless possibilities. Magic and metal keep me from being bisected by my own physiology. Bodies change when shattering starseeds, and parahuman bodies change when gaining rank. More happened to me when I promoted — all of it unpleasant. I faced an adjustment period when learning these new changes. Sometimes that meant surgical intervention."

Ey turned, opened a hand toward the sidelined general in quiet ask. When she acquiesced, Faustite caught the cane by its middle and gestured for Squiddy to approach from the rear. "But since you asked —

"Youma and parahumans carry abilities as varied as senshi magic. Some magical, like you saw with Euphoria's chair, and some physical, like my youma's ink." Faustite held the cane at arm's length, aimed toward the ceiling and parallel with eir body. Perkele fired clear, viscous ink splotches from before the stage and successfully coated the weapon. "Some of those abilities carry synergies — even between youma and parahuman." The wet cane thocked the ground before em, and risen from eir back and core came a smoky billow so thick, so toxic that even eir glow dimmed greatly. Faustite stepped just aside eir own mass of smoke, then kicked the cane into a twirl that passed into that smoke. When it emerged on the other side of that darkness, it was lit with a cruel flame.

"A typical officer won't have magic at their disposal." Faustite held the cane outward so that it was framed by the noxious smoke. "Youma can compensate for this by adding their own. Sound dampening, heat sense, smokescreens, even crystalline carapaces that bend appearance. Any of these could bolster your efforts, your combat.

"Consider this: anyone can catch a cane. But who can catch a burning one?"
A swing of handle and the general javelined eir borrowed weapon toward Pyrophanite.

Captain Nissonite

As one of the re-educated in question Nissonite could have vouched for the losses and lapses in memory that came with being drawn into the opposite side of the war. He'd lost plenty, primarily anything that had to do with his former life as page, and with that any knowledge he might have had of youma or half youma beyond the tiny experience he'd had with them as a civilian.

It'd seemed like a good idea to attend. There were numerous speakers giving their opinions on numerous topics. Nissonite had taken a seat near the middle to listen, his form half slouched and his arms folded, but his attention was rapt on the podium and speakers that'd taken center stage behind or near it.

One, in particular, holding his attention a little more firmly than the others.

It wasn't until the conclusion, when the floor had been opened up to questions, that the captain realized there were others present he was familiar with. Jet sat with another captain and a corrupt that had moved from the wall to join them. He considered moving closer as well to offer a greeting to the general but held back for the moment.

Instead he glanced to where General Wolfeite had moved along the wall to join another corrupt, this one eternal. Pushing up from his seat he made his way over, pale eyes flicking between the two before lingering on the general's masked face. "That was well done," he offered, though paused to consider some of the other speakers, his nose wrinkling. "Mostly well done."

Then, to Kama, he offered an easy smile. "Hi, I'm Captain Nissonite."

General Xenotime

To say that the general had a vested interest in youma was a bit of an understatement. Well, half-youma. Parahumans as Schorl had labeled them, which she had yet to decide was kinder or not, but that was perhaps not even up to her considering she did not fall within their ranks. She wondered what Bischofite would have thought of the term, but the thought was a sobering one that left an unhappy little frown on her face through the remainder of the seminar, until the floor had been opened to questions.

She wondered, idly, if things might have turned out any differently if something like this would have been available years ago.

With her she'd brought along two of her subordinates. Ochre on her right and Vanth on her left. She'd advised the whole of her team to make time to attend but these two had had no prior and unavoidable obligations. Ochre she thought perhaps knew some of what was being presented, he'd certainly been with the Negaverse long enough to have encountered youma in all makes and models, but Vanth would likely walk away with the most knowledge gained for how new she was to the war.

With the speakers taking questions she turned to her senshi, first one and then the other. "What do you both think about what we've heard today?"

His marked 'target' cried 'KITTY!' like he was the coolest thing since sliced bread and Tiberius was just fine with that. The dame had one eye and one arm and that was a amn shame, but he could totally help her with these things if she - unlike that stuffybritches Zircon - would just let him!

"Oooh, that's real nice." How strange, her hands didn't end in fingers, or even painted fingernails shaped into talons like some of the senshi had...they were actual claws. Like a half youma. And up close? She still smelled really interesting! Tiberius couldn't help sniffing deeply and wiggling his nose and whiskers at her, tail curling up into a happy crook that slowly danced one way and then the other. He even kicked up a real good jet-engine purr, 'cause she had the goods on scritches - A+ stuff that had him arching up into her hands and dancing.

God he loved people!

"Hmmm?" He butted his large head against her hand when she faltered in giving her name. Ta? She looked...worried, and the scent of fear broke out over that super interesting not-normal scent that tickled at Tiberius' nose. After a few moments, she seemed to make up her mind to trust him with something precious, leaning close to give him something oh-so-special and just for him.

Tanzanite. This dame was She. What was once the Greatest General Sovereign of the Negaverse, the One and Only. The database had reams of data about her, about Aree Cadence, about everything...and here she was, in the flesh. Tiberius puffed up with importance, knowing that if she didn't want to tell everyone, he ought to not. "Ooh, ain't you just the thing!" Carefully he stood on his hind legs and put his fore paws on her knees and busked her cheeks with his own, marking her as one of his. "So gorgeous, I'm gonna call you Peridot, if that's good." Unless she had something else she wanted him to call her, Tibs knew that Tanzanite had once been thought to be the less impressive olivine, so peridot was kind of a cute way of faking her as herself.

General Wolfeite

Kamacite's response made Wolfeite turn his head to look at the senshi, eyebrow still raised, though this time in what seemed to almost be amusement, rather than curiosity. Beneath the mask, the corners of his lips curved upwards a little; a faint smile, unseen because of the barrier, but evident just enough in his eyes.

"Thank you for that, nonetheless," he said, the amusement threading his voice as well. One of his ears twitched, picking up a nearby voice, tail moving slowly behind him, brushing against the backs of his legs. There was such a noisy chatter of people speaking; some of the tones were grating, irritatingly pompous, aggravatingly pretentious; Wolfeite dismissed these as easily as if he'd ignored a fly buzzing too close.

"Perhaps not, but I suppose it depends on the definition of hardships. Though there are some...lesser intelligent beings that might be trapped under the command of an inexperienced agent, or perhaps ones forced into a contract. I would certainly call that a hardship. Perhaps more than that."

He did not like the idea of being forced into subservience simply because agents thought themselves better. It was why he had never concerned himself with the stigma that Kamacite being a corrupted senshi was somehow less than the agents, only that his potential be explored as thoroughly as possible. Besides the fact that Kamacite was his recruit and that automatically made him of great importance and intelligence, the consistent underestimation of the corrupts was a flaw in the system; one that Wolfeite thought petty and pathetic.

There were approaching footsteps. Wolfeite turned his head and saw Nissonite drawing nearer, which was possibly not a surprise, considering their last meeting, but still curious in and of itself. Out of instinct and a base possessive need to keep Kamacite safe that lingered in his veins, Wolfeite moved silently closer to his senshi, reaching a clawed hand out to put a hand on his shoulder; not digging in, merely resting in a light touch.

"Nissonite," said Wolfeite, one ear flicking again. "Thank you. This is Kamacite, my recruit."

His voice was always gravel like, but there was just the faintest hint of a growl to it; he did not know how Nissonite worked, and at a meeting that was already fraught with tension, he was taking no chances.

Benitoite gave an answer that was very obviously meant to deflect scrutiny from his ineptitude in having ignored a well known and heavily documented piece of Negaverse training for some selfish aim that had yet to be put to light. Aue was fairly certain it was some romantic inclination - that was usually the culprit when abject stupidity was on the table.

How were you not stripped of your ranks or turned into a youma yourself? I would have busted your a** back to lieutenant permanently at the least for such blatant disregard of protocol and the chain of command. Dull and lacking, ineffectual. Aue was weighing the general before him and finding him as lacking as he'd found others, the man's very word choices grating with how pompous they were.

Aue had remained standing precisely in a military parade rest for the duration of Benitoite's rambling response, attentive despite his growing irritation at the given response. "With all due respect, Sir," The corrupt senshi's jaw clenched slightly, but he appeared otherwise outwardly unaffected, "I believe that were I to obtain a training manual from six years ago, it would provide the same information as the current manual does." Granted, he could not know this to be entirely true, however - very little seemed to have changed in the training manual, or in any of the other databases he'd studied during his time in the Negaverse. It was an educated hypothesis: the manuals would be the same in this area.

"Certainly I will procure one to confirm this, at which time I would be most interested in hearing your explanation as to why you, a decorated general of the Negaverse, would lie to an entire room of your peers during a presentation." There was nothing more to say to the charlatan parading around as a general, so Aue sat back down, dismissing both his tablet and the kintsugi cup to subspace for the time being.

Sailor Vanth

Xenotime had said the seminar would be important and informative. It was. It was also wholly frightening. Each speaker that stood up was horrific in their own way, even the dendritic one in pastels and smiles that screamed Siren-Mermaid-Eats-People. Even those in the crowd were frightening. Generals in plentiful array, lounging power and sharp as broken glass. She did her best to cup her hands around each other first, staring hard at the podium, and then at Ochre when she couldn’t take it anymore (for brief stints.) He was an eternal senshi. He was alright. Not awful, even if his tattoos and uniform were a little intimidating. When the cup came, she held that fast in both hands, instead, and traced the gold veins with her eyes while questions and banter flew.

Her General was asking her a question, though. And Ochre. “I think it’s very grim. “

“I don’t think there was any happiness in any of it. Excitement for violence, for the war, for power, and ….a lot of pain. I want to know what the woman in the back asked about. About the faith they have. If there’s any hope. I guess if there isn’t...there’s nothing for it. Like Paul Bäumer.”

She turned her mind away from that book, from 7th grade reading, and back to the presentations as information. “Some of them didn’t really say much. Not much that was actually like a presentation. They’d get F’s in speech class. Why did they do that?”

Lieutenant Bloodstone

It wasn’t often that Bloodstone was able to get away from work long enough to participate in things such as this. Lucky for him, keeping people alive was only one part of his job. If there was no chance in saving someone, they certainly didn’t need a starseed. Nor did those who caused more work for him and others. If the scum of the earth was wiped out, what better place to do it without suspicion as a hospital’s trauma ward?

“If you don’t mind, I would like to hear your findings and the General’s explanation as well,” Bloodstone spoke up from the row behind the vocal corrupt. “As a Lieutenant, I have much that I still need to learn. I wouldn’t want to end up in the same situation as that Captain whom… is now a Knight?”

He sat in an overstuffed armchair, avoiding the spring that had punched through the back’s upholstery by leaning against an arm. It made him look just about as casual and relaxed about the meeting as he felt, even if he would usually make every attempt to present himself as formally as possible.

“Curious situation indeed,” he mused, watching both the General and Eternal. The senshi had asked the questions he’d been curious about. Certainly obtaining a youma to fight beside him was appealing, but not necessary for him at that point in time. Still, it would have been a huge missed opportunity to not go to the seminar.

“Lieutenant Bloodstone,” he introduced after a moment’s pause. “If you’re ever in need of medical assistance, feel free to ask for Dr. de Rais at the General Hospital."

Captain Aquamarine

Aquamarine rolled his eyes at the Corrupted Senshi’s approach. It didn’t matter what nonsense Jet said about his recruits. Senshi were Senshi, whether they wore black or white. They were even more useless than youma, as far as Aquamarine was concerned. Jet should have killed them instead of bothering to have them corrupted — not that Aquamarine really fancied killing anybody, but if it kept these people away from Jet and out of their lives, he could easily stomach it. They were the enemy, whether or not he had as much of a personal stake in the Negaverse as Jet did.

It was personal now. Jet was his person. That meant something to Aquamarine, even if he rarely said so.

He faced Gadolinite with barely restrained hostility, standing up to inch closer to Jet in a move that was entirely protective, but could come off as uncertain to anyone who didn’t know how hard he worked to keep Jet out of trouble. He would have immediately insisted the Senshi buzz off and attempt to make itself worth the effort of corrupting it, but Jet spoke before he could. Aquamarine was immediately incensed by Jet’s order about staying away from the Rift, and was therefore too distracted to utter any biting insults, at least for the time being.

“Did you miss the part where I can enter the Rift alone if I want to?” Aquamarine asked, glaring at the General. “I’m a Captain. If I want to go bond with one of these things, I can.”

Although, if Jet really did forbid it, technically he’d be breaking an order if he chose to do so. Not that he had to worry so much about Jet’s reaction. What was Jet going to do, yell at him? He was hardly terrifying. Aquamarine had no intention of acquiring a youma at all, but it seemed rather unfair and hypocritical for Jet to tell him to stay away when Aquamarine suspected Jet had plans to go in himself.

“If anyone should be staying away, it’s your reckless a**,” he argued.

Eternal Kamacite

It wasn’t often that Wolfeite was amused, so hearing the lighter edge of his normally rough voice was nice. He didn’t like how much of a youma Wolfeite was becoming. He looked too ragged, aside from his medals. Maybe he could do something to try and change that.

Kamacite tensed when he too noticed someone approaching, wishing he could have managed to escape without drawing attention from anyone else. He didn’t do well in social situations, and he would rather not embarrass himself in front of Wolfeite. Which was easier said than done, since he was quite good at finding ways to embarrass himself.

Wide eyes stared at the Captain, heat rising in his face as he was greeted with a smile. Kamacite started with a small squeak as Wolfeite rested his hand on his shoulder. Thankfully, Wolfeite introduced him to Nissonite for him, which meant Kamacite didn’t have to talk, and merely lowered his head in acknowledgement.

As he slowly… slid further down into the seat, slouching uncomfortably in a haphazard attempt to slink into the shadows while his General and the Captain talked.
