Helen Hall

This time she definitely heard Harley's voice, and she sounded like she was in trouble which added an extra level of panic to the tall girl as she tried desperately to fight off the rats that were doing a damn good job of overwhelming her. She was well and truly surrounded, could feel the warmth of crowding bodies but instead of that heat being a relief it was almost suffocating. "Harley!" Where was she? She couldn't see around the rats!

Another biting slash at the back of her thigh sent her to her knees, and the rats closed in to blot out the moonlight.

The mace was heavy in her hands, it was hard to lift it and the press of the rats around her made it impossible to heft it over her shoulder. She couldn't wield it effectively. She didn't know what to do.

With the valient efforts of the unintnetional reinforcements, the rats are outnumbered driven back into the woods. Realizing they are prime for imminent defeat, they rapidly make an escape and disappear beyond the trees. There is no need to follow them; the threat is gone, and chasing them would just be a waste of resource and safety. Any attempt to follow them is met with resistance; someone always winds up in your way or trying to talk to you, or grabbing your arm and guiding you towards...

Towards...

In the blink of an eye, strange music sounds in the background sounding like an orchestra striking up again. For a second your vision fades; you feel like you might have fallen asleep where you were standing, only to suddenly jerk awake again somewhere else.

No longer are you surrounded by rats and soldiers and snow and battle--now, you find yourself standing in the middle of a beautiful Castle ballroom.

Someone is talking to you but you only catch the tail end of what they were saying. Everyone around you is dressed in beautiful, shining regalia--including you.

This is a celebration; you don't know how you got here, or why, but you understand that something good has happened and you are being rewarded. These nice clothes came from someone, and everyone that speaks to you seems to have nothing but praise. If you look around in the crowd you may find some of the familiar faces of those that joined the battle with you--or, you may find the food.

The aroma is intoxicating and you are famished. Food and drink is offered aplenty and aside from the glories of battle, it's almost all you can pick up from the conversations surrounding you.

Still, something seems off. Maybe you feel a little hazy, a little dizzy, maybe you realize that there's something amiss with how you got here...

It's worth it to stay on guard, but in the meantime, how could you pass up a free meal when it smells so good?

Quote:
If you try to eat anything, you will note that everything tastes surprisingly sweet. You are allowed to roam around the ballroom and sample different foods; there is an array of edibles in nearly every shape and form. Any attempt to leave the ballroom is stopped by guards or staff as the rest of the castle is not ‘suitable for guests’.

If you missed the previous prompts, you are still free to join at any point in time--HOWEVER, your dice roll for any prompts prior to this one are ineligible for any IC rewards. You can roll to determine how your character did but any late rolls will not affect the outcome of the ORP. Full information can be found in the OOC note in the first post of the thread.

Harley Jennings

Harley could SEE Helen but she couldn't reach her, and the wounds were getting to be a bit much. Just as quickly as they were in war, they were placed somewhere else.

Pajama's disappeared, replaced with a gown in a Pale pink with deep teal color accents like her eyes.

She stumbled at first in the heels, moving around in a sort of daze. At first she thought she was still dreaming, how could they go from battle to celebrating? What were they celebrating? She didn't understand.

The buzzing in her ears was someone but she didn't understand who. She needed to find someone, but she wasn't sure who. She just felt completely out of it.

"Jesus christ." She rubbed her temple, "I think cousin Hitch is gonna kill me if he finds out I'm in a ******** ball somewhere." She blinked, "Wait, Where...Helen?" She pushed by people, looking around for the dark haired woman, pushing until she bumped into a redhead woman, apologizing.

"Oh s**t, I'm so so sorry. Are you okay?" Dang ball gowns sucked to move in.

Seren was perfectly willing to hold the small girl when she was suddenly grabbed into a hug, her arms immediately dropping around her. She wanted to pick her up and carry the girl with her, but she was being clung to, and she would not risk harming the girl for the need to get them both to warmth. Once the girl had calmed down enough, though, she began to move, leading the pair of them to what she hoped would be safety.

But it wasn't, much to her horror. Instead of finding a place of warmth, they found a battlefield, between men and... Rats? Oh great lords. Seren wanted to swing the child into her arms and run off with her, especially when the girl shrieked. The fear was enough to make Seren want to throw herself between the child, and the danger of the many rats. She held her... And was a little astonished when the girl pulled away. Seren heard the man's comment, and was a little furious... A child, as reinforcements? How horrible. And even more horrible was that the child calmed down and felt she should!

Seren looked around, desperate, and found a weapon in the snow, and she snatched it up. She fought... and she fought hard... Trying to get back to the child, who seemed to be taking out many enemies. Seren, on the other hand, was soon overtaken and covered in various wounds. It was painful, and horrible, and she was still trying hard to get to the child...

And the rats were falling back, so despite the pain, she tried to get to the girl, but... things changed.

She looked around, confused for a long moment, because she was... in a Castle? She froze, brain trying to catch up with the sudden change. Her outfit... She looked at it, in awe, as she realized she was wearing a... beautiful dress, the sort of thing she had always secretly dreamed of... Well, mostly, she had never really dreamed of it being some sort of regalia, but it was wonderful.

And there was food, which smelled so good, and so many people around... But she remembered the little girl, and while she was confused as to what was going on, she forced herself to move through the crowd, despite her hunger, to find the child.

Turning towards the voice, surprise flashed in his dark eyes. "Jason!" Glad to see his friend, and even more so as the other approached him, he reached out towards the other. "I'm fine. But there are so many rats." So many rats and he was ignoring the question of if he was hurt. he wasn't, not really, he was good - he could keep going.

But they didn't have to keep going, the rats were retreating. "Good, it looks like they're gone." For now...for now. Somehow he didn't trust that. Something about all of this he didn't trust but he didn't know what, it had to be the rats - right?

Before he could think to ask anything, to find out where the rats had come from and why, he was being grabbed and guided to somewhere. Reaching out he took hold of Jason, wanting the other to stay with him.

It was like a dream, or the different sets changing in a play, as seemingly moments later he was in a ballroom and dressed in the most impressive clothing he'd ever worn. He heard someone, sort of, speaking to his side and complimenting him on something. he honestly hadn't heard all of it, which was rather rude of him, and he did apologize to the gentleman while stating that he'd zoned out for a moment - lost in memories of the battle. That was ok, of course, as it had been quite the thing.

Excusing himself, as he was hungry and figured some food might help him to regain himself, he went to find some food. The smell filled the air, all kinds of smells, and he was off hunting down a meal while also looking for Jason because where had he gotten off to? He needed his friend, needed to know he was ok and that he was around. But where to find him? Perhaps with the food.

Dria Bones

Dria suddenly found herself in the garb resembling the garb of the High Priestess of Pasithee when attending state functions (how she knew this she didn’t know). It was very fancy clothing that resembled Ancient Egyptian Clothing that was modernized and also contained a lot of blue. Also, she wore a Blue Lotus in her hair. Okay… she was really weirded out now. How did they know? How did she get it on? And how did she get into the ballroom of a fancy castle? Everyone was congratulating her and praising for something she had done, but what had she done? She felt a little woozy. Maybe it was the lights. There was food. Maybe if she ate something. There were all kinds of food from what seemed many varying cultures on many tables throughout the room. For some reason, all she wanted was seafood. And there was plenty of it. She tried some… odd, everything tasted pleasantly sweet. Something was not right here. She decided she wanted to go lay down, a reasonable request, she thought. But none of the servants would let her out of the ballroom; their common reply was that the rest of the castle was ‘not suitable for guests’. Now she really was suspicious. Something weird was going on.

The scenery changed again, and Etoile found herself in a really fancy ballroom wearing a fancy dress in purple and pink, now with shoes this time, as compared to just moments ago. There were others around dressed just as fancy, but what was more important was...

Food!

Nothing else mattered at the moment, but helping herself to some of the pastries she spied among the other food being offered. Perhaps if Alise was with her, she might have held back, but Etoile had never been one for thinking sensibly, or finding things suspicious. At least, not when her primary decision making process was ruled by how hungry she was at a given time.

Jason McClayre Jr.

Jason was so very relieved that Xi seemed to actually have quite a handle on the rats around him. He was fine really and shortly after he found him the rats made a full retreat. "Yeah, they had better run away." A part of him was sort of mad that they were just letting them get away with whatever war they had surely started, but no one was giving chase and wait...was someone pulling him somewhere.

He knew one of the hands on him was Xi's, but he couldn't seem to hold onto it and suddenly he wasn't with his friend at all anymore. Someone was talking next to him, praising him for his good deeds in battle. "Right...thanks." Jason had a small blush on his face and looked down to notice he was in quite the outfit. It had been a gift, right? Hadn't he just been with Xi though? How long ago was that battle? He excused himself form his present company though, something about the smell of food in the room was drawing him in, besides he really ought to find Xi again. He had to be here, he was part of that battle as well after all.

As he made his way toward the food tables he did spot his friend. Relief filled him as he found his way toward his side. The food tables seemed to be drawing just about everyone in, but he didn't think too much of it. "Xi! Oh thank goodness. Sorry I lost track of you in here. This place is huge and it seems everyone wants some attention." That was normal right? They were war heroes after all.

Helen Hall

It was getting darker, and Helen didn't know if it was just the claustrophobic press of the rats looming over and around her, or if she was loosing consciousness, or something else altogether was going on, but the slashes ceased soon after, and the heat of too many bodies pressed too close together cleared. There was a rush of cold air closing in around her again, the ability to draw a full breath, and then everything went black for a moment.

When she could see again she was no longer in the woods surrounded by the cold press of a winter's night. Instead she found herself standing in the middle of a ballroom with lit lamps, and food, and music. All around her people were moving around in frock coats and full gowns, and when Helen turned she realized she too was wearing a floor length gown in deep sea green. Beneath the skirt she felt herself teeter a little in unfamiliar heels.

Frowning, the girl smoothed her hands along the front of her dress and down along the fullness of the skirt before reaching up to touch her hair. It was twisted up, pinned and curled in a way Helen had never worn it before. "This can't be my dream." She'd never dress herself like this. So then, where was she, and what was going on?

And was that...?

"Harley?" Silver hair, pale skin, and blue eyes you could drown in. She was dressed in pink, a beautiful dress dotted with flowers at the waist and shoulders. Helen stared for a long moment with wide eyes as she watched other girl making her way towards her through the crowd.

Swallowing back a sudden knot in her throat Helen moved forward to meet her, so incredibly relieved to see another familiar face. This face specifically. Harley.

Trinity Ward

Rin supported herself upright with the weighted staff she had been using as a combat tool as she caught sight of the rat army disappearing into the trees. Not a single person made the move to follow them and that puzzled the young woman for a moment. Why allow your enemies the chance to regroup and strike again and again? Making the decision to try and at least scout ahead Trinity was absconded by a fellow soldier grabbing her arm and pulling her back. She couldn't quite understand what it was he was shouting at her but she tugged her arm free and getting what was probably the gist of the message it was with some reluctance that she offered her hand instead to the soldier in order for him to lead her somewhere.

But where was this somewhere? Rin had thought that she had heard music playing when they were still in the field and yet even now the memory seemed hazy. There was no field now that was for sure. Rin found herself in an opulent ballroom surrounded by faces she did not recognize. Even her clothes seemed unrecognizeable; although lovely in stature. She was really confused about how she kept losing track of time. It jumped and bled all together it seemed. Putting that disturbing thought to the back of her mind Trinity only pretended to know what the many voices around her were talking about. Was there congratulations mixed into the many conversations?

Listening to it all was enough to start a headache pounding and excusing herself, albeit politely, Rin moved towards the tables that were loaded down with food. Looking over the selection she carefully assembled a small plate of various foods and took a glass of what she hoped was water. Food and suitable drink obtained Rin leaned against a wall and sampled the food before placing her plate aside. Everything had a too sweet edge too it and that seriously put a dent in enjoying the festivities. The water too had a sweet edge to it but Rin knew that she'd never get rid of the headache if she didn't sip at something.

Taking her plate the young woman found a servant and handed the plate over before asking where the nearest place to rest could be found. When she was politely informed that only the ballroom was in use for guests Rin stormed away. She felt angry. In that anger though was confusion and a slight dizziness. Was her headache responsible? Everything around her was creating havoc with her coordination. It made walking in this wonderful dress become extremely hazardous. It wasn't too long before Trinity felt herself stumble and bump into another individual at one of the food tables. The "sorry" that passed through her lips was barely audible.

Daisy Grace

There were too many rats. Yet somehow, some way, the rats became the outnumbered party and Daisy stood, claymore braced against the ground and holding her upright. Even after resting for a moment, she wanted to go after them, finish the job. Only soldiers kept stopping her, wanting to talk and crow over their victory.

Oddly, she thought she heard... music? And when next she blinked, her shredded pajamas and bloodied sword were gone, replaced by fancy finery. The forest became a ballroom and Daisy blinked owlishly. But they... But she... What the hell was even happening. She smiled, a little bewildered, at an older man and woman who both seemed intent on singing her praises. She wasn't at all sure where the shimmering gown had come from, but she was thankful that her shoes were nothing more than simple flats. Excusing herself as she spotted faces she recognized from the forest, even if she couldn't place a name to them, Daisy was ready to charge one of them down and demand an explanation.

Except, the smell of food caught her nose and she paused. Everything smelled so good! And her stomach was being very insistent that she feed it. Heading for a table, she sampled here and there, wincing a little at hos sweet everything was. Not that it wasn't good, just a little too sweet. But even as she grazed, she couldn't' stop the little niggling mental worm that insisted something wasn't right. She should have remembered the journey between the forest and this castle. And she definitely should have been able to remember getting dressed up like this!

Whatever. There was food and she was hungry.

They were leaving. The rats were running away! Cerise turned back to the woman who had saved her and began to make her way back to her, but within an instant, something happened. Cerise blinked and suddenly she was somewhere else. Not the battlefield, but somewhere warm and bright. And her view of the other woman was obscured by all kinds of fabric... Cerise looked up to see that the curtains of deeply colored and sparkling fabrics... were skirts! Beautiful skirts of every color of the rainbow! Elegant ladies who reminded her of her mother looked down at her with a smile, talking behind lace fans as they waved and winked at her.

And when she looked down at herself, she saw that she was clad in the same style of dress herself. Something like her mother would put her in for a special event; a black concoction of lace and ribbon that went down to the floor. Cerise spun once, giggling at how grown up she felt in her new gown. It didn't even matter how it had happened or why she didn't remember anything between the battle and now. All that mattered was that she felt like a princess.

The crowd parted and Cerise saw the woman from before, dressed just as splendidly as she was. cerise waved once, called out, and then hiked up her skirts and ran towards the woman, only stopping when she was close enough to reach out and hold on to her skirts.

"We did it, Miss," she exclaimed, beaming up at the woman. "We beat the rats!" And then, seeming to remember herself, Cerise cleared her throat in a way that sounded grown up to her and curtseyed the way her mom had taught her.

"My name is Cerise Pascale, Miss. I didn't tell you because I was scared. Sorry."

Ashley Williams

It was hard to tell how long she had been desperately trying to fight off the rats, but eventually it seemed that something was making them turn and fall back towards the trees.

Ashley stepped after them, although given how badly she had been faring the step was more wobbly than anything–

And one of the blue and white garbed soldiers were suddenly in her path and an insistent hand was on her shoulder turning her away.

Away...

Her surroundings blurred, the strains of what appeared to be a musical band of sorts striking up, Ashley swaying on her feet for a moment–

Only for her grey eyes to stare owlishly around the, the..

Ballroom?

And it seemed that yes was in the middle of a ballroom, the faces surrounded her garbed in shining clothing that was suitable for such fancy surroundings.

It took a while for her to realise that she too was amongst that number, blooded clothes and rapier gone to be replaced by a silver gown that wouldn't have looked out of place in the dancing scene from the Labyrinth.

And she could smell food, an embarrassing gurgle from her stomach reminding her that it had been a long time since the ice cream.

She took a step forwards and then hesitated, had it really been so long? Everything seemed so hazy with the way kept slipping to the point where fighting the rats seemed almost like a dream–

And yet there were cuts in her arms, cuts that which no longer bled but were still there...

A nearby voice called out a 'congratulations' the thoughts dissipating as another person stopped to converse with her, more words of praise on the other's tongue.

Maybe, maybe she would chat for a little longer - after all it seemed like a fair amount of people were headed that way and she could wait until it was a little quieter.

Seren had to control the urge to fall to her knees and pull the child close... Her relief at finding the girl, uninjured, was palpable, though, and she beamed down at her. What a lovely dress the little girl was wearing, though. Seren glanced at her own dress again, taking in the details now that she had found the child. It was long... VERY, trailing skirt long in fact... In a deep blue with what looked like gilt stars and ruffles. It was gorgeous, and she found herself wishing she owned this dress normally...

But then she refocused on the girl, and her lips curved up into a warm, caring smile. "So we did, Miss Pascale. I am Seren Yong..." She curtsied in turn, hiding her smile at how adorable the girl was as she ducked her head for a moment. "And it is alright. I can understand being scared." She was still aching, she found herself thinking, under the dress, from the wounds the rats gave her. "That was a scary situation, but now we seem to be safe, though... I don't remember how we got here."

She knelt beside Cerise, with care for her skirts, and smiled again, now that they were on the same level. "Would you care to stay with me, while we figure out where we are and explore a little, perhaps?"

Tama

”Yes,” Tama said haughtily as he sent one last rat scurrying off into woods with a final flourish of his sword. ”Begone with you!”

Tama was quite pleased with himself, after all. He was becoming quite good with these human apendages, all things considered.

He was admiring his hands again - such interesting things they were compared to paws! - when, suddenly, the scene change again.

A fairytale castle was before him and then... somehow, he was inside! A ballroom, a feast and and a voice - once again.

”Who - ” But the voice was gone once more.

Tama stood, dressed like a prince, wondering just where he really was.
