A patrol of Yokai or wayward survivors. Either way, this might prove to be interesting yet. Regardless of which one of the two it was, this job might prove to be a challenge, but that didn’t matter. I looked at Kiyoshi and gave him a quick negative head shake. “I’m good to go right now, just lead the way and I’ll follow.” As I spoke, I felt a little bit of nerves if I was being honest. I very much doubted this finely dressed young man would be of much help outside of these walls; he seemed better suited for office work than getting his hands dirty. I was used to keeping people like him safe, but only when I was at one-hundred percent strength. I was nowhere near that now. My swordsmanship was at a mere fraction of what it once was and I only had one effective jutsu which I couldn’t even channel through my sword. If things got crazy, I wasn’t sure I would be able to protect him, or even worse, myself. But these thoughts would help no one, they served no purpose now. Instead, I just had to think ahead and focus on the job in front of me: finding the source of the smoke. I stepped out and moved on to meet the man at the gates.

_______________Potential Trouble... ||
Kiyoshi gave you a humorless grin at the mention of following him, and turned away without another word. It seemed as though he had been off-put by something, but he did not make you aware of what that something might have been. Climbing the stairs to the bridge, he nodded a greeting to one of the guards and led the way across the Market District toward the southern gate.

❝ Been looking at the sky like someone was looking down. But it keeps raining on me. ❞
[Location:] In the courtyard.
After the initial surprise and uncharacteristic excitement, Hono immediately folded in half, the top of his head nearly sweeping the ground. He stood straight once more a moment later, though he averted his gaze, and apologized for... something. I breathed in to tell him not to apologize, but he continued on before I could. It wouldn't have done anything to stop him anyway. Someone named Servus helped him survive the last three months, and led him to our hub. Yet he didn't seem to have accompanied Hono into town. Or maybe he had, but had gone his own way. Moving on, he was glad to see that I was doing well. Not what I would have necessarily called it, but I guessed it was a fitting description. Besides, Hono couldn't have known otherwise.
"Well," I said after a moment. "As you can see, a lot's happened. Most of it still doesn't make any sense." I placed a hand against the back of my neck, my gaze diverted to movement not too far from us. Kiyoshi was speaking with the dark-haired male from earlier. Taiki, if I recalled correctly. Maybe he'd settled for one of the jobs on the board after all. Nearby, some workers repaired a hole in the wall of our 'jailhouse'. I'd have to ask about that later. Then my eyes were drawn to Fiorzia moving behind me. Right, I should probably introduce her. "This is Fiorzia, by the way." I finally looked back at Hono, gesturing to the sylph. "She's a sprite I saved trying to escape the city back on the day we woke. She's followed me since. Ah..." Pausing briefly, I thought for a brief moment the best way to explain what I wanted to say. "She borrows voices to speak, which is why she isn't right now." I watched her wave, though she was still watching Hono curiously. So in exchange I introduced him to her. "Fiorzia, this is Hono Hokori. A friend from Kumogakure."
I turned my attention back to Hono with a grin. I had to admit I felt truly happy for the first time in a while. "Let's get some warmer clothes for you, and something to eat." Gesturing for him to follow, I headed for the stairs to the bridge leading out of the district.
❝ But no one told you that this was going to hurt. And now all I really want is to scream. ❞

Honō bowed once more after being introduced to Fiorzia, that content, small, smile on the Hari Clan member's face once again. "It is an honour to meet you, Fiorzia- sama." Honō spoke, voice gentle. "If I can ever be of service to you, please, do take advantage of me." The words were spoken with utmost sincerity, as, it seems, does everything Honō say. "And my apologies if I speak or perform any actions culturally incorrect. Servus has spoken of this world to me, but I'm afraid I was very unwell at the time. Much of the time since I awoke has been spent in a fever just broken." Pale features remained at ease, despite the severity of the words. "Thank you very much, Kaileer-sama. Please tell me if there is anything I can do in return for this care." Honō spoke, waiting the usual beat before following, but not being so rude or presumptions as to walk either in front of or beside Fiorzia either.
Coming from the Market district after recieving directions from the smith, Karin, Kira walked over to see the cluster of buildings and walkways that made up the administrative district, or 'The Grim Hall' as the locals told on the way here. Kira walked into the larger of the buildings and went straight down the main hallway. There he would notice a small pale girl with very similar shade of red eyes if a little off by being a little lighter or darker, he couldn't tell because of the lighting. down the hall Kira could here faint traces of talking but decided to ignore them and went over to the pale girl assuming she was the desk clerk that Karin had mentioned. Upon stopping short of the desk Kira examined the girl for a moment before knocking on the wood of the desk and asked,
"Excuse me... My Name is Kira Yamata. the smith Karin said I could ask about permanent housing here? I would like to talk about such things if I can, I think I could proof to be useful in exchange" Kira echoing voice through his mask was blunt and to the point. Though it was a rough introduction he didn't believe in mincing words or dragging on what his intentions where. However before the clerk lady could get to him Kira looked over to a board filled with paper and iron nails. recognizing the words vaguely he knew these where job listings. At a glance Kira spotted two he thought he could take up but would just keep in the back of his head for the time being until he was done with whatever interview they had in store for him.

_______________The Secretary Looks Up From Her Work...||
The young red-eyed woman glanced up from her book with the same mild annoyance that she showed everyone. But she closed the book regardless, sticking a dried out leave between the pages so as not to lose her spot. Useful or not, you're expected to pull your own weight if you want to live here. Whether that means collecting supplies or helping to defend the town, the citizens will eventually kick you out if you decide not to help out." Her way of speech was somewhat crass, and as blunt as your own words. But then, after living there for three months, she had probably seen her fair share of refugees. Shuffling through some papers on her desk, it took her a moment to find the one she was looking for. Should you inspect the page, it was a list of houses and apartments, numbered. A good amount of them had names written next to them. Without looking back at you, she spoke again. "Do you want a house or an apartment? Obviously the former comes with a greater responsibility, and upkeep of it is up to you to maintain."
Straight to the point, Kira liked that. and she didnt have to mince words on what would happen should he shirk any duties that would otherwise cost the village as a whole, "Then i'll make sure that you can sit and remain here more quietly as i try and do a better job and help the town with it's problems." With that Kira looked over the handed piece of paper and glanced over to the apartment section sense he figured having a whole house to himself would be to much work, and space, to fill for one man. As she asked if he wanted either house or apartment Kira shook his head and said, "Dont worry I won't take up much room, an apartment will do. Other than the smith I doubt I will have many people to chat and have visit me." Kira looked over the paper and picked out an apartment number closer to the bottom of the page listings that way it was far out of the way and wouldn't likely to have as many neighbors for a while as the village grew. On whatever paperwork was handed to him Kira would sign with his left hand and hand back to the clerk before saying finally
"As a Shinobi is there any rules or regulations I should be aware of? If not I would like to take two of the jobs n the board there.The one about the Alchemist who needs experiments and the hunter who needs extra pelts. I Do need help though in training I was told there was a academy near here would they be offering free archery lessons if i asked?" Kira asked the clerk this assortment of questions in quick succession from one another that he had left her any time to answer the first question. However He finally stopped at the archery lessons to leave room for her to answer as he knew that this would be a lot to process from a strange man in grey black scale mail wanting to live in a town that just sprang up.

Maona waited in silence until you had finished filling out the required paperwork--all of which only took up one page due to the paper shortage--and tucked it away once you were finished. "Titles like 'shinobi' or 'soldier' mean next to nothing in this world as it stands. We have no 'kage', and our leader isn't interested in that title, so shinobi as they were don't exist. Here, anyway. Can't speak for anywhere else." She brushed her long, white hair out of her face, and looked up at you briefly before turning her gaze to a list of jobs she had on her desk. "Alchemist...? Oh, you mean the 'Calling all Herbalists' one?" She looked you up and down, raising an eyebrow. "Careful, if you plan on being a test subject, it might put you in the hospital. We don't know much about a lot of plants around here. As for the hides, it should be easy enough if you're any good at hunting." Looking around her briefly as if trying to find something, she pointed in a northerly direction. "Academy is the last district before the buffer zone. You'll recognize the buffer zone because there's no one there. I dunno about archery lessons specifically, but they should be able help you there."
Upon being told about the word 'shinobi' meaning nothing in the village he was staying in he merely huffed at her remarked and dismissed it, "Sorry miss, but those are the only words I know to relate to. I want address people as such if thats the stigma but I will think of them as such if they apply the art." Gingerly taking the job notices from her as she explained about how not even the 'herbalist' didn't know the plants of the area worried him but he knew he needed the money for his new apartment. As she pointed towards a noth direction she talked about how the Academy was the last district before the 'buffer zone' and how they would help him there. Taking note of her directions Kira simply nodded and said, "Very well thank you for your time. I image We'll see more of each other. You dont have to remember my name though, cant always guarantee that'll always make it back from the wilds or missions. Again thank you" With that Kira went and gone off towards the north to the academy He had a lot to do if he was to help his new home.

_______________The Narrator Whispers...||
You were set carefully in a room-made-cell somewhere within the town. As they placed you on the cot within, the guards retreated quickly in case you woke and lashed out. One left, although one, a purple-haired female, remained, taking up watch.
After a few minutes, a small male arrived, dirty blonde hair and brown eyes, maybe twelve years old and a bit on the chubby side. Regardless of whether or not you were awake he stepped past the guard and gently opened the cell's iron door. From there, assuming he was not attacked, he treated any injuries he could find, grumbling about the guards not leaving at least a blanket or something, and applied a rather refreshing salve to your burns. However, he used minimal eiseijutsu during the process, seeming cautious that having you at full strength would be a bad thing. Lastly, he covered you in a thick blanket, and left a clean set of clothes waiting for whenever you woke.
Assuming you had not woken by this point, he would take his leave.
After a couple of minutes walking from the gates we reached the office building. The two of us placed the tent holding the bodies on the ground, and I made my way inside first, leaving Yumira to go about her duty. Before I left her, I turned and thanked her for her helped and expressed that I hoped to work with her again soon. She was a delight, very sweet. Too good for a world as cruel as this. Once inside, I approached the secretary. “I just completed the mission about the smoke coming from the forest. We brought back some bodies, figured they deserved a proper funeral… Them being human and all, I thought we could burry them here. They might not have lived her from the looks of it, but they’re still one of us.” I paused for a second to let the secretary consider what I said, but then I went on. “Listen, I’m not really going to take no for an answer, but I’m willing to bury them myself. Just tell me where, and I’ll do it. But I’m not leaving until I get the okay. I’m not trying to be rude or anything, but it’s the right thing to do.” I held my ground in front of the secretary, arms folded, never breaking eye contact.

_______________The Secretary Looks Up From Her Work...||
As seemed to be usual, the young secretary looked annoyed as she was disturbed, but her demeanor quickly changed upon hearing of the bodies. Her red gaze grew sad, and she carefully set her book aside. "I see," she said softly. "It's a shame we couldn't save them. I'll see what can be done, but with the permafrost burying them might be hard. So far we've... had to burn any bodies." Her view on that subject was clearly conflicted, but she gave no more insight on it. "I'll send someone to take proper care of them. In the meanwhile, what were you able to find?"
The snow making it impossible to bury the bodies, or at least hard enough to not be worth the trouble, made sense to me, and I shared the secretary’s dislike of the method. Everyone deserved a proper burial after all. I crossed my arms and leaned against the wall and began to recount the story of what we found. “First, we found this strange, deep hole. I couldn’t quite judge what it was, but the hole seemed big enough for a person or two to go in. Yumira seemed as intrigued by it as I was so it might be worth some exploration.” I made a short pause, closed my eyes and pinched the bridge of my nose with my thumb and index finger. I could see the body of the woman in my mind, seared in the back of my memories like a hot iron on a cattle’s hind leg. “There were three of them. Two men and a woman. She had been impaled in the back. The other two weren’t that much better. The good thing was that they seemed to injure one before dying. There was a trail of blood leading away from the camp… I think the village should pursue it before the trail goes cold.” I opened my eyes and met the secretary’s gaze, waiting for a response.

The white-haired young woman jotted down a few notes as you spoke, making a separate note about the 'hole' you mentioned. "'Injured one'? Yokai, I presume? Or something else?" She asked, though it was somewhat rhetorical as she seemed to only half pay attention to what she was saying. "Anyway, yes, I agree. Since you were already there previously, I'd like if you could take head on the mission. Likewise, there was an... altercation reported from the gates earlier, but one of the others who was involved might be interested in tagging along on the mission as well. I can send a message to them while you prepare--if you decide you want to do this--and ask them to meet you at the gates if they're interested." Finishing her notes, she set the journal aside and looked back at you. "We can send Yumiru with you, if you want, or I can send one of the other trackers, since she's not particularly combat oriented."
Opening a drawer in the desk, she pulled out a small pouch that clinked as it moved. She placed it on the desk. "Four hundred ryo for your efforts so far."
[See your quote for the mission details.]

I nodded at her mention of the Yokai. What else would have been able to kill them, after all? And the blood seemed to match that of a Yokai as well, that much I knew. I leaned closer to her as she spoke and nodded along. “Of course I’ll take this mission. It’s the least I can do to see this through to the end. I just need some time to make the relevant preparations, but I can do this without a doubt. I just need a second to prepare, is all. I’ll meet this person at the gates in about an hour.” With that said, I took my leave, and headed for the dojo for some last minute training before the new mission.
