He could feel his cheeks burning again, just slightly. A result of a combination of things culminating together, least of all the tall young man lounging beside him looking entirely too comfortable in his own skin. Henry shot him a quick look, baby blues flicking from the hand on his knee and upward until he met that friendly gaze.

Dai digging out his phone was excuse enough to look back down at his own, finally pulling up the text to read it more thoroughly. "That sounds about right." Which begged the question of how they were going to pass the time.

Breathing out, the smaller boy shifted in his chair. Sitting back finally and slouching a bit, hands resting loosely in his lap. "What should we do?"

Dai had not expected the added blush, but he did not comment on it either, simply choosing to act as if he had not noticed anything. He simply watched the other man quietly, keeping that friendly smile on his face. He wondered if his new friend was so unused to friendliness, or something of that nature, that he seemed so nervous about it.

Then the question of what to do came, and considered it thoughtfully, though a small, slightly naughty, smile crossed his face. "Well I mean there's talking of course... I don't think I should try to flirt with you too much, let alone trying for more, as we're on duty, but it would be tempting to pass time with such enjoyable pursuits. Hmmmmm."

He tapped his chin, thoughtfully. Perhaps it was a bit much, but he did think Henry deserved to realize that Dai was, in his way, serious about this flirtatious pursuit.

Henry had been one of the outliers in school. Not bullied, just not really noticed by anyone save the small handful of boys he'd counted as his friends. He'd felt more or less invisible most of the time he was surrounded by his peers. Home was better, but Henry was just a shy, quiet kid. Deus was helping him crawl out of his shell, and he definitely had more friends now than he ever had before, but he wasn't used to the level of friendliness and flirtation folks threw around on the island, and certainly not directed at him.

And Dai didn't seem to have any hang ups what-so-ever about reminding Henry what he thought of him. It wasn't overt, wasn't aggressive at all, just casually fell into conversation. As if it cost the other boy nothing to do so. And maybe it didn't. It was a level of confidence Henry wasn't sure he could wrap his head around.

Boldness went again Hnery's nature. He was doing better, but...

"I wouldn't know. I mean. I've never..um. I've never done anything like that." His voice came up on the end, making it almost questioning, or apologetic.

Dai's brows rose, and he said, in a voice that held NO judgement whatsoever, just interest in confirming what he thought Henry was saying, "By 'anything like that', do you mean flirting or... kissing, or... Well, more?"

It was something the other man's behavior had made him suspect, but he had an opening to ask, and if he was correct, then perhaps it would be best to TAKE that opening. He could modify how he acted towards Henry more appropriately, that way. He did not want the other man uncomfortable, and despite what Henry said about not being so, he suspected that too much might be overwhelming.

He shifted in his seat, making sure that he could see Henry's eyes and expression, wanting to be sure he had a good idea of what he was thinking.

He wasn't sure, but he had a feeling that if the other young man really was this inexperienced, he might not be very good at hiding his thoughts and feelings from his face, and that might help too.

He could be very wrong about that, though.

"I mean..um," he started, but froze up a bit as he realized Dai had turned and was watching him intently. It brought the fading blush back in a rush that extended all the way up to his hair line, and he had the sudden desire for the floor to swallow him up whole. Or maybe even one of the pod alarms to go off, that'd be a great distraction from the question.

~Why d'ya need a distraction, boy?~

It's embarrassing to admit...

~Issit now?~

Isn't it?

Wasn't it? Henry frowned thoughtfully, his hand coming up again to rub at the side of his neck as pale eyes flicked away from Dai and then back again. "All of the above?"

He felt embarrassed by it. That was not at all Dai's intention, and he was about to apologize, given the way he froze, the red tone on Henry's cheeks, and the long silence before he spoke again. But Henry answered before Dai could apologize, and he nodded, slowly, again showing no judgement at all.

There was nothing to judge, as far as Dai was concerned. Everyone had their own preferences, needs and desires, and their own pace at which they needed to deal with things. Instead, he shrugged a little, after he nodded. "Nothing wrong with that. Better to wait, until you can share those things with someone you can trust, even if it's just on the level of 'I know they want to see me smile, and don't want to hurt me', even if it's not true love."

Not a concept Dai was entirely sure he believed in, per se. He saw his sister and her boyfriend, and it certainly seemed like what many people spoke of... But Dai was skeptical, a touch. Maybe one could find a true partner, but he'd yet to find one who was comfortable with his lack of a desire to permanently settle down with just one person. "If you ever feel the desire, just... I will leave it open for you to decide if you would want to try any of those sorts of things with me. I wouldn't, ever, pressure you."

And then he gave him that bright smile again, and laughed, a deep and warm laugh, at himself. "Pardon me... I've been monopolizing this conversation with my interest in you. So as not to make you feel entirely embarrassed this whole time, how about you pick a topic you'd like to talk about? Unless you wish to continue this."

The frown softened, but the thoughtful look on boyish features lingered for a longer, even after Dai had tried to hand over the reigns of the conversation. Giving him an out to change the subject, if he wanted to. He rolled his lips together, worrying at them for a second or two. Did he want to change the subject? A moment ago he would have been relieved for some sort of distraction. Now? He really wasn't sure.

The color remained. It was embarrassing--he wanted to squirm in his seat--but there wasn't any judgement in Dai's expression. So what he was feeling, it was all just his own hang ups and insecurities.

He was trying to be stronger. Didn't that include breaking free of fear, or doubt?

"We can continue this." It was timid, but not hesitant. Even if he didn't know what this was, or where it would lead next.

Dai saw his thoughtfulness, the way his expression moved as he thought, and waited patiently for whatever Henry chose. His choice, however, honestly surprised Dai. He had thought that Henry surely could use a break, now. But he had given the other man the choice, and he would respect that choice, and Henry's desire to continue.

"As you like, then. Just please DO tell me if you feel a break is wanted or needed?" He gave Henry another flirtatious wink, and reached over to clap him on the shoulder, in a friendly way.

His fingers, however, did give a warm squeeze. Nothing too much, perhaps a hint of flirtation and caress, but easy to shrug off.

"I love that shade of blue in your hair, by the way. It emphasizes yours eyes quite wonderfully."

He nodded, but went still as the hand clap the shoulder lingered there. It was nothing really a little squeeze, but he felt it like wings in the pit of his stomach. It was the same sort of feeling he got when he saw Cami smiling at him, or when she hugged him.

The compliment had him lifting a hand to his hair, fingers sliding through it. Drawing it out enough to see before letting it fall again. "Thank you. It used to be lighter than this, like sky blue? But I didn't have any way to maintain that. A couple of other trainees took pity on me and gave me a well needed touch up." He chuckled, and it was a little self deprecating, but mostly just humor.

"I think I like it better darker, but it'll probably change again, to be honest." Sooner rather than later, too. The blonde was starting to show at the roots, and he knew he was due for a trim as well. "Not sure what color will be next. It'll depend on what Luka and Lena have."

"Mmmm well whatever color they pick, I hope it's as flattering as that one is for you. I don't know if I'd ever give up my red... I know it's a decent color on me, with my eyes and skintone, but I don't know how many others would be. I tend to stick to simple colors in my clothing, because..." He looked extremely self deprecating. "I'm actually a bit nervous about how some colors will look on me."

He sighed a touch, and shrugged. "Warm tones tend to work, I've found, but other then red, I'm not all that fond of most of them. Oranges and yellows... most shades tend to be not at all my thing... And I don't know how most cool tones would go." He gave a helpless shrug, then refocused on Henry.

"Cool colors are good for you, though. They flatter you, without making you look glacial, which is always a bonus. They don't hide the warmth inside."

The blush probably wasn't going away anytime soon, but at least he wasnt fidgeting anymore, and the stuttering had calmed a bit. "You've got blue eyes, too. Or blue green," he amended, glancing up to check. "You could probably pull of cool colors, maybe darker ones." Henry wasn't any sort of fashion expert, so it was a guess, but he felt it was a good one, at least.

"I've had purple before, usually cool colors. My sister started it, she wanted to test a color for her own hair, and I let her try it on me, cause out hairis the same, and if something went wrong it wouldn't have been a big deal to buzz mine down or color over it." He shrugged, a small smile touching his lips at the memory. He missed Olivia, odd though she was.

"The red does look good though," he added shyly, not wanting Dai to think he meant otherwise with his comments.

"It's more my skin tone I was thinking it might not go well with, to be honest." He said, looking down at his skin, holding it up to the light. "Maybe some darker blues, but light ones... I think they might bring out the sallow tones a little too much. Warm colors help mitigate that, I've been told." He sighed a little, then shrugged, and smiled at Henry.

"But that is alright. I do like reds, and other warm colors. Redder purples work, as well." He then chuckled softly at the tale of how Henry had come to start dyeing his hair. "It sounds like an interesting way to get into it, I suppose."

He paused, considering, then added "It sounds like you miss your sister. I can understand that." He patted Henry's shoulder again, sympathetically. It might be different, the other way around, but it was still a sibling that he would almost certainly never see again.

And then he gave him a warm smile. "Thank you, I appreciate it."
