HP: 19;
Attack: 1D6+1;
YTMA training Academics, Novice Agility, Novice Endurance

The juggalo took the door knob in her hands and twisted. It was locked. The word locked seemed to reverberate through her thinkpan, magnifying until she could not hold it any longer. She howled at the locked door, making sure it knew every pain and insult it had thrown her way. She cursed it a thousand curses, damning its poor little locked soul to hell over a tenfold.

Lorata tries to disarm!

No. Nucleo was right that they needed to check the room. She wasn't going to back down just because it was trapped and locked and Punkie hadn't been able to open it yet. She was going to step up, find the mechanism that triggered the trap, and disarm it. She'd seen this in a book. She reached up, then flinched as beeping started.

"I think that means it's shutting down." Her tone said she would accept no other explanation.

The lock was cursed, sure, but it still refused to budge. Punkie took a step back, her smile mean, anger fueling it. "By the mirth of the Messiahs i condemn you to ******** HELL!" She screamed, slamming one fist into the door, and hearing the lock finally give way. She stood, frozen like that, her fist throbbing. It was fine tho, it was fine. For the Messiahs, for her seadweller overlords, it was all fine.

Amonee investigates the trap

2 - The room beyond is filled with a laser sensitive grid, dealing 2 damage per post to all trolls who enter, until they exit the room (roll again on the first table)!

4/16 advances
1/3 minibosses defeated

"Whoa, we have a major problem!" Amonee began to walk through the door but came to a screeching halt as he saw the giant grid of lasers on the ground. Why was this even installed on the ships? What purpose did it serve? Had this really been cleared by the military to add on to the ship designs or had a clever engineer with a mean streak added these in afterwards? Amonee looked helplessly at the others as this was the only way to progress but also a one way ticket to grilled trolls on a plate!

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.

The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!

You have encountered a ...

Dice 1

1. ... Enraged... (-1 to all attacks)

2. ... Jawless... (+1 on accuracy rolls)

3. ... Putrid... (-1 on all accuracy rolls)

4. ... Decomposing ... (+1 on all attacks)

Dice 2

1. ... Skeletal... (-5 miniboss HP)

2. ... Bellicose... (players take 2x the amount of damage on their first turn)

3. ... Armoured... (only 2 players per turn may use a special artifact/ability/item)

4. ... Burning... (take an extra 1 dmg each time you deal max damage (highest roll possible for weapon or damage-dealing skill))

Dice 3

1. ...Undead Ship Cook!

2. ... Mutated Daywalker!

3. ... Zombie Gerbil Pack!

4. ... Daywalker on Fire!

MINIBOSS STARTING HP: 30/30

If you rolled a 1, take 4 dmg.

If you rolled a 2, take 4 dmg.

If you rolled a 3, take 3 dmg.

If you rolled a 4, take 3 dmg.

If you rolled a 5, take 2 dmg.

If you rolled a 6, take 2 dmg. Your attack this turn does double damage.

If all party members reach 0hp, look below:

You must make a tactical retreat! Scrambling back out of the room,

you barely make it to the pod with all your limbs attached.

Better luck next time! You have retreated from your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

If the mini-boss reaches 0hp, look below:

If this is your first or second mini-boss fight look below:

If a member of your team is a trained Discipline or Endurace specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can close your eyes and draw on inner reserves to keep going. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.

If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Restore 1d10+3 OR 1/3rd (rounded down) of your hp.

If you are a Novice in your skill: Restore 1d8+2 OR 1/4th (rounded down) of your hp.

If you are training your skill: Restore 1d6+1 hp.

You cannot roll the dice then choose the flat restoration, one must be picked beforehand.

If a member of your team is a trained Troll Relations or Leadership specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can manage to cheer, rally, or cajole your teammates into finding more energy. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.

If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+3 (rolled separately) hp.

If you are a Novice in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+2 (rolled separately) hp.

If you are training your skill: Each team member restores 1d4+1 (rolled separately) hp.

If this is your third mini-boss fight, you have reached the control room! Roll 1d4 and look in the spoiler below:

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*

2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*

If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.

Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

As if the mutated daywalker wasn't bad enough, now there were laser grids installed in these rooms!? Lorata spared several moments to viciously wish the daywalker had fallen into them as she brought her partisan down in an attack. Unfortunately, it was attacking back with an alarming ferocity, and the force of it sent her reeling back into a laser.

Gritting her teeth, Lorata activated her goggle's display again, hoping to find a quick way to bring the creature down so she could get herself and her team out of this awful room. There was a clear attack path available but it would put her awfully close to the lasers again...She had to take it.

"Major ******** problem?!" The juggalo yelled back to Amonee, "No ******** PROBLEM!" She screamed the last word, as she stabbed the roadblock in the way of the finjester Lorata's victory. She stepped back, panting. The juggalo bloodlust was strong in this one. Her vision wasn't turning orange yet tho, so it was all at a manageable level.

The barista wasted no time closing in and pulling at the daywalker's arm socket, trying to injure it so it could only use one arm. He yanked hard which did manage to hurt it but failed to actually handicap the creature. It certainly didn't like his actions though and turned on him pretty quick with a swat.

"Ugh!" Nucleo wasn't sure what had assaulted him worse- the monster's hit or it's smell! He flew backwards as the daywalker flung him with ease. The greenblood landed in the laser grid on the floor and cried out in pain as it seared into him.

"Watch out!" Amonee had no choice but to join in the fray to try and help his comrades. The daywalker was disgusting to look at and he tried to keep his distance. Unfortunately, doing so was kind of difficult because no matter where he stepped, there was the painful grid of lasers on the floor burning and biting at their every move. Hissing in pain, he tried to keep up while also readying his weapon for a good strike. Bashing part of the creature as one would hit a baseball, it went flying and hit the wall.

"Nucleo, no! Are you-" He blinked back tears at the sight of his friend sprawled out on the ground crying out in pain as lasers cut away at him. He rushed towards the other greenblood to help him up but-

The daywalker loomed over the both of them and something inside Amonee snapped. He could not hide behind Nucleo forever. He could not let the other boy take his place in all of these fights while he hid safely in the back out of fear from getting hurt. What would he do if Nucleo got permanently hurt? What if something happened to those precious hands that carefully brewed every cup and brushed any stray hairs back into place? His chest squeezed painfully tight, unsure of how to deal with the emotions other than letting out an angry anguished cry.

"NO!" Dropping his club, Amonee summoned up all the strength he had in his body and punched someone in the face for the first time in his life. The daywalker stumbled backwards and crashed over some debris. It did not rise again.

The moment the daywalker stopped moving, Lorata reached for all three of her squad members, tugging and pushing at them until they were safely out in the hallway again. She shut the door behind herself before leaning heavily against the wall. "That was unexpected, but we pulled through. We can still make it to the end if you'll keep up that determination for me." She straightened. "Let's find the control room."

Punkie took the coffee. A break was nice, but, at the same time the juggalo could feel herself coming off that high. The high of the mirth her Messiahs had filled her with. It would take a little something to bring it back, and sure, once the coffee's miracles did their job, it would help. But the break gave her a second, and she wasnt so sure she wanted that second.

Nucleo listened to Lorata while he crawled off the laser grid of pain. Rubbing at his back he knew that he would be hurting all day. Might even need to stop by a medical office to see about burn cream. He got to his feet after catching his breath. For now he'd soldier on and try not to let on about how much it was smarting. He didn't want to scare Amonee or worry Punkie. And he definitely didn't want to let down his commander.

"Everyone okay? Shall we continue?" It dawned on him that if they got on Lorata's good side, she could be a good military contact for later. The Lightseekers were working well with the military for now but who knew what might happen in the future. If they needed access later, he'd be able to try calling upon the seadweller for help.

"Yes, of course, Sergeant!" Amonee tried his best to give Lorata a proper salute, only butchering it a little bit. He was glad she was so optimistic. It made him feel better to have a commanding officer like her around since nothing seemed to faze her.

Well, nothing but a locked door at least. Maybe seadwellers didn't have doors in their hives under the sea. He wouldn't know.
