Cpl. Psykgi Mentha

So Flydra had trap skills - to be expected. Truth be told, Psykgi was just a little envious. After all, her role, as a lowblood, was supporting highbloods. She was proud to have that role, too.

Eh, I have other things to study. she thought, shrugging it off as she observed, Maybe I'll get to it, maybe not.

The collective is strong.

It was something Ma'am said often, and it was very true. As long as she carried her weight, the collective team was stronger than its individual parts...

Oh look it was some sort of slimy undead thing. Neat. And very squishy.

Blueblood bash, though... really? Really? That was the best that Chiara could come up with? Psy was disappointed... but only a little bit because this was all in good fun! "Good alliteration, Chiara! Hey, what about this one?"

She rammed her axe into its head - not really the usual use-case of an axe, but it broke a few things that were clearly important to the slime beast. "Psy Smash?" she named, smiling a cheeky smile before finishing it off with some proper axework.

"... or not. The alliteration doesn't quite work -- that tricky 'P' and all!"

Scorpa was incredibly pleased that Chiara and Psykgi had both managed to mop the floor with that slime monster before she'd had to even lift a finger. It let her keep her uniform nice and clean, as well as observe the other warriors. Psykgi was proving herself to be a great military member with precision and power. Chiara was incredibly strong as well. It was a shame they hadn't managed to recruit her yet. Oh well, they had plenty of time. The blueblood was a crafty one and likely had some sort of plan up her sleeve right now was all. Scorpa didn't know what went on in her mind- hey maybe she should ask Psykgi to work her magic on her sometime! Ha! But not right now.

"Good work girls. You're doing a kick-a** job. We'll be home in time for supper." The commander flashed them a big thumbs up along with a smile.

"If we keep a this pace, maybe even lunch." Scorpa joked, leading the way into the next room in high spirits.

"Yes, you two are very strong." Flydra nodded in agreement. She definitely thought Psykgi was military material and representing the army well. She looked very polished and confident in that uniform. The blueblood was a mystery however, beyond the rumors that floated around the entertainment industry about her. Which ones were true? What was fake? Flydra and Scorpa had only met her a handful of times for the show.

"Have either of you ever considered joining the JROTC?" She smiled, preparing to launch into a recruitment speech if they said yes. The group wandered into an open room full of crates. Maybe there would be something useful inside one of the.

Chiara's eyes lit up at the loot. Yess, items of value! She looked over at her teammates, testing to see if they would notice if she stole it or not. As she picked up the thing the thought became mute. It was useless. She picked up the lackluster piece of what ever, and brought it over. "Here" The blueblood said, bored already.

Cpl. Psykgi Mentha

Lunch... Well, that was a hope. Probably not, considering the whole 'returning to planet' ordeal and how long that generally took, but they were in space. Lunch was whenever they wanted it to be, wasn't it?

"Ohh, gosh, the JROTC..." Psy hesitated. She had heard about it, of course she had! One didn't hang around these ladies without hearing about it, and they'd had that Superstar Authority thing all about it. She'd managed to avoid it for so long because that wasn't where she thought her life was going, or where she thought she wanted to be with it. She hadn't wanted to.

Why?

She didn't know why she hadn't wanted to join the military. It made little sense to her, looking back on it from her elevated perspective. Had she wanted to avoid losing her individuality that badly? And yet, hadn't it always been inevitable that she would?

Be rational, Psykgi. she admonished herself. The military wasn't so bad! In fact, she was pretty good at it. She was enjoying it. So, gosh, why not keep going?

"Sure, I'll join." she said, as if it hadn't been a long time coming at all.

"Wait, do you hear that?" The yellowblood paused and put a finger to her grinning lips. Despite the quiet air, a faint scratching sound could be heard around the corner. Scorpa didn't want to be slowed down by the easy targets but at the same time... it was fun to throw yourself into battle. She tiptoed to the corner and motioned for the others to follow her but keep quiet.

"How many can you make out?" Scorpa whispered to Flydra. The scientist had been working hard to study these space daywalkers and would have the best chance of them all to work it out based off this limited information.

"It looks like nine of them. I think we can cut that down to zero though." Flydra let out a small sigh. She was bored of fighting these zombies. She wanted to experiment on them instead but Lorata had instructed her several times not to bring any back in the pods. She understood that there was a safety hazard but... what if they cut all the limbs off of one? Then it would only have the bite to worry about and they could shove it in a corner until they got back to base. The doctor was so wrapped up in plotting this fantasy that she didn't realize the daywalkers were getting too close and needed to be smacked down!

The attack! The best time of day, or night, or the mission, whatever! Chiara ran in, sneaking her way through both her teammates and the yuck that came with every monster. She got herself into a good place, close enough to do damage, yet not so close as to get any of that gross much on her. She did a small slash first, readying her next, real attack.

See this was why she needed to be in the best position. It was time for her real special attack. Not the lame one she had shouted out to Scorpa, that had been stupid and silly. No, this was her real power, her ability to buff up at any one time, and really give her attack that extra kick.

Cpl. Psykgi Mentha
"These are a little speedier than the others, don't you think?" Psykgi commented to her fellow doctor. Her swing had been strong, and it was a little harder than usual to recover from the miss. That was the difference between hitting air and hitting squishy flesh...

That did give her some time to watch Scorpa do... Whoa...

Something damned impressive, for sure.

Joining their JROTC might be a better idea than I originally thought!

"Leave some for me!" Scorpa laughed, racing in alongside the others. She slashed her blade around carefully avoiding hitting her teammates but enjoyed a little wild abandonment once she was in the clear. This rush felt amazing. She loved the chaos and unpredictability of fighting. The trading of blows and clawing through any dirty tactics at hand. It was what she was made for. It was what she was being made for. Flydra's experiments and treatments were turning her into a great soldier for sure.

If this program worked, just think how many other trolls it could help! She was only a prototype for now! The possibilities were endless.

"Got 'em." She straightened up out of her battle pose and flicked her hair out of her eyes with a victorious smirk. The only thing she did know is she would continue to demand more and grow from everything Flydra threw at her. She was going to be the best.

"Good work, Scorpa. Your accuracy is improving and your take down time is close to beating your record." Flydra remarked from the sidelines where she was holding a stop watch. Being Scorpa's doctor, she had been working hard with the yellowblood to develop her into a super soldier. She was over the moons with how much progress they had made so far. Sure, there was the matter of that weird side effect to the steroids messing with Scorpa's memory a bit but it was something they could work out in time. Or maybe even Psykgi might have some ideas on that.

"This looks like a good path to try." She turned her attention forward, starting down another hallway. She left some room to let Chiara walk slightly ahead of her. After all, she was a blueblood. They all needed to show some respect to the natural order of things, namely, the hemospectrum.

The blueblood sighed as another door came across her path. See, doors were good! But they were also either gooped shut, trapped, or, the most annoying of all, both. The blueblood took the doorknob with a frown of disgust, and tried to open it. Look at that! Locked! Who would have guessed?!

Taking 5 from door

Chiara didnt even bother to wait for a cue from her commanding officers. She also didnt bother to look for some fancy way to open the door. She just wanted this thing to be over so she could take a nice shower. The blueblood prepared herself and rammed the door. She rubbed her shoulder quickly, but then sneered at the others as if she were completely fine.

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.

The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!

You have encountered a ...

Dice 1

1. ... Shambling... (+1 on accuracy rolls)

2. ... Grotesque... (-1 to all attacks)

3. ... Rotting... (+1 to all attacks)

4. ... Skeletal... (-1 on all accuracy rolls)

Dice 2

1. ... Armoured... (only 3 players per turn may use a special artifact/ability/item)

2. ... Oozing... (-1 to weapon attacks that deal less than 6 damage)

3. ... Disemboweled... (-5 miniboss HP)

4. ... Swift... (players take 2x the amount of damage on their first turn)

Dice 3

1. ... Daywalker Captain!

2. ... Zombie Gerbil Pack!

3. ... Mutated Daywalker!

4. ... Undead Slime Lusus!

MINIBOSS STARTING HP: 20/20

If you rolled a 1, take 4 dmg.

If you rolled a 2, take 4 dmg.

If you rolled a 3, take 3 dmg.

If you rolled a 4, take 3 dmg.

If you rolled a 5, take 2 dmg.

If you rolled a 6, take 2 dmg. Your attack this turn does double damage.

If all party members reach 0hp, look below:

You must make a tactical retreat! Scrambling back out of the room,

you barely make it to the pod with all your limbs attached.

Better luck next time! You have retreated from your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

If the mini-boss reaches 0hp, look below:

If this is your first mini-boss fight look below:

If a member of your team is a trained Discipline or Endurace specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can close your eyes and draw on inner reserves to keep going. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.

If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Restore 1d10+3 OR 1/3rd (rounded down) of your hp.

If you are a Novice in your skill: Restore 1d8+2 OR 1/4th (rounded down) of your hp.

If you are training your skill: Restore 1d6+1 hp.

You cannot roll the dice then choose the flat restoration, one must be picked beforehand.

If a member of your team is a trained Troll Relations or Leadership specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can manage to cheer, rally, or cajole your teammates into finding more energy. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.

If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+3 (rolled separately) hp.

If you are a Novice in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+2 (rolled separately) hp.

If you are training your skill: Each team member restores 1d4+1 (rolled separately) hp.

If this is your second mini-boss fight, you have reached the control room! Roll 1d4 and look in the spoiler below:

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*

2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*

If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.

Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!
