"He's your... moirail?" Nucleo blinked. What? But that wasn't right. He thought they'd been going red for sure. Flushing at his mistake, he immediately started questioning everything he'd thought was true and everything he'd been doing regarding Elidae. What the heck? Stunned, the greenblood didn't know how to respond at first, simply nodding to her words. He was glad to hear he'd been treating her well- as that had been Nucleo's biggest concern.

So if Kursha was her moirail then... how was he supposed to interpret her other actions? Had he been misreading her all this time? Had he screwed himself out of any chance with her because he'd been too scared to just plain ASK HER? Or what if he had and just couldn't remember it? Had the clues or words gotten lost in the scramble of his brain? Gog dammit he hated not knowing knowing what moments he had shared with other trolls when he'd cloned himself. He hated that he was too sentimental and soft to feel okay not bringing them back into himself. It was an unfair choice.

Amonee's words didn't even register as Nucleo slipped deeper into the rifts of his mind. As the zombies approached, he only heard static.

The yellowblood had a difficult time determining the atmosphere with the other two. Something seemed up- but she didn't quite know. There was an uncomfortable silence for Elidae as she tried to interpret both Amonee and Nucleo's reactions. She supposed... Captain Kursha Vidari didn't have that great of a reputation, even to trolls not in the military, and hearing this news... she had a hard time comprehending why. The mention of Hemera had her startle. They knew her? And... they were all in the Lightseekers? Elidae knew of them, but never got the opportunity to check them out. Before she could really question much, the bowed troll acknowledged Amonee's sightings, but quickly after-

“Nucleo?" Elidae called the greenblood to stand and fight, but he seemed to be dazed off. Nucleo?"

Regardless, the three zombies were easily taken out by Elidae. “Nucleo, I need you to be more aware of your surroundings!"

"You two are so strong!" Amonee beamed, praising the others. He felt relieved that they were so capable of wiping out the daywalkers they came across so easily. It was honestly exciting to see Elidae in combat for a change. Normally he saw her as a troll somewhat similar to himself that was sweet and sociable rather than a soldier. But now he was seeing how different they were in that regard.

He thought back to Austri's words. Did that make him a coward or a failure of a troll? He thought of Frossa's disappointment back on his first ship. She'd echoed some of the same thoughts that a troll ought to embrace aggression even in the face of extreme fear. Maybe there was something wrong with the way he interacted with the world.

Or perhaps those negative thoughts were a product of paranoia from being on this ship so long. The long empty hallways devoid of real life had a taxing mental affect on them the longer they stayed. He nervously walked down another one, taking Nucleo's arm for comfort. The other greenblood always managed to calm him down when he was frightened. Sometimes it made him feel a little foolish in comparison to how cool Nucleo was but right now he didn't care.

"I wonder how they're doing up there?" Newcleo wondered, back down at the dock. He was sweeping the break room, trying to get everything neat and tidy for the trolls who needed a place to relax before their next mission. On the table he'd prepared some sandwiches along with a pot of The Nightly Grind blend. So far no one had touched any but they would in time. He hoped.

He just wanted to help!

"Yeah, okay." Nucleo mumbled in response. He wasn't really listening, just replying to try and sound like he was while still trapped in his own thoughts. It wasn't ideal to do this aboard a ship full of zombies but he was too frustrated with himself to be able to stop. Flashes of images filled his head, along with questions of what sounds they matched. The words inside him were all jumbled and he began to feel a sense of dread forming. He didn't want to let it out, he couldn't let this show to the others.

Nucleo always tried to carry his burdens alone.

Wandering down the hall, he mostly was just following the wall in his peripheral vision. The barista walked straight into an open door without even realizing where he was going.

With a drop in her gut, Elidae immediately made a noise of disapproval as the greenblood walked blindly into a room and quickened her pace, grabbing the handle of her scissors. Who knew what was laying around in waiting? She was ultimately responsible for her team and she didn't want any harm to come to him.

“Hey, hey, hey!" Elidae moved into the room and stepped in front of Nucleo, causing him to bump into her. She held her arms out and gripped his shoulders, holding him firmly at arms length. Looking at his face intently, Elidae wore an expression deeply saturated with concern and slight frustration.

“I need my team to be 100%. Please don't walk into a room without checking if its clear first." Thankfully the room seemed to be open and devoid of any undead or lethal traps.

"Everything alright?" She realized... as much as she cared about Nucleo, they still had a mission. And being in her position right at the moment, she had to ensure the safety of her team as well as carry out her duties. With a heavy pusher, Elidae squeezed his shoulder and stepped away, having to put some separation from her feelings and her commitments. It was hard. But it wasn't the time or place. "P-Put it aside for now, okay? I need you to focus. Please?" Was all she asked, and she turned on her heel to rummage through the room.

"More of that gas, huh? I wish we'd find something really juicy. Like can you imagine finding a... vintage dress? We should try some on together sometime." Amonee tried to keep the mood light but he was secretly glad they hadn't come across more logs besides the earlier one. They contained dark unpleasant questions that he wasn't sure how to face yet. Ships glittering on fire as allies turned on each other. Secrets that they weren't supposed to see. Betrayal and danger that brought about a new era of Alternia.

Explosions, like the one back at the Civisect Space Tower. Were they connected? Had someone been trying to stop them from seeing these logs? Or was someone trying to fight back against the Queen after sweeps of hiding? Would someone strike the Chittentown Space Tower sometime during this event, when much of Alternia's talented soldiers and volunteers were gathered neatly in one spot?

He wandered down another hallway, trying to keep the stress from showing. He wanted to be happy. He was with Nucleo and Elidae and they were going to be okay. Right?

Wait, what? The greenblood stumbled as Elidae got in front of him. Her words finally reached him, in that he was listening again but the greenblood was still not okay. All the questions and confusion inside him wasn't whisked away so simply. Her concern was appreciated, it truly was! But his chest tightened as he realized he was letting her down over something that he was losing control over. It felt like there was a whole collection of voices in him, each shouting different things. She wanted him to focus?

"I CAN'T!" Nucleo shouted, punching the wall angrily. Breathing heavily he slammed his fists into the ship, finally unable to contain himself any longer. His fists began to bleed from the harsh repeated contact with the walls and the pain snapped him out of his fury.

"My head! It's-" The greenblood leaned his forehead against the wall now, trying to keep his voice from cracking. His hands reached up to clutch his hair.

"I-I'm sorry, I..." Nucleo took some deep breaths now, trying to control himself once more. Stop it. This wasn't the time or place. This was embarrassing. He needed to get a hold of himself.

"I'm sorry for my outburst. I... obviously need a better way of handling stress." Nucleo apologized with a weak smile that didn't reach his eyes. He'd been about to unload on them, he wanted to share his burden with Elidae. Amonee knew already and could probably guess what was going on.

Averting his eyes, the greenblood looked down the hall.

"Let's get back to the mission. I'll try to pay attention now." He nodded and turned to start walking.

The outburst from Nucleo startled Elidae. Staring at his bloodied fists, her lips held a hard line and her eyes, unblinking, slowly moved to his pained face. Her brows creased together. Being in a position of authority gave Elidae the right to talk down to him for his eruption.

She appreciated his willingness to apologize and move on, but now it seemed clear something wrong with the greenblood threatened to burst free- and succeeded. Her face softened. Despite all of this, he was her friend. She moved her hand to touch him, but Nucleo already decided to move the team forward. Elidae swallowed hard and kept silent as she began to search through another clear room.

Elidae stumped upon another video. “Found something!" She called, despite the uncomfortable discovery of the last log found. As the video began to play, she remained focused on the screen. As it progressed, her face slowly melted downward into distraught.

As soon as the piercing screech came from the speakers, Elidae covered her spongeclots and winced, the beat of her pusher pounding in her chest. She had never heard such a terrible sound before in her life. When it finished, she cracked open a lookstub, fearful of what she might see.

There were no monsters. There were no visible signs of any sort of entity guilty of what had happened. Just... death.

Elidae put a hand up at either of them should they attempt to steer her away or turn the video off. She stared at the limp bodies, listening in to the miscellaneous sounds of a lively ship with no life on board. She quietly, slowly, turned the video off.

There was no machinery. Only silence and death. And the three of them.

With watery eyes, the yellowblood collected what she needed silently and promptly made her exit, beckoning the two of them to follow behind her as she attempted to process what she just witnessed.

The screen flickers with a video clip...

Quote:
The image is crystal clear, although the audio cuts in and out erratically. Military trolls of clearly higher rank are crowded around a large window, effectively a glass wall, in some sort of viewing deck. While hard to make out, you can see what they're pointing at. The unmistakable silhouette of one of the old Queen's flagships, with two smaller, albeit still impressively sized ships docked at either side.

The audio snaps into clarity, although the shouting of the crowd drowns out any distinguishable dialogue. You do however, make out the word 'rebel'.

The audio cuts out again. Trolls continue to run in and off screen, clearly holding panicked conversations.

Then the image flickers slightly. Then again, and again. The static builds with each jump of the video feed, as if picking up momentum.

The trolls on screen have stopped moving. They've all turned to look outside.

The image continues to throb. The fuzzy figures the trolls had become suddenly begin to writhe and clutch at their heads, dropping to their knees together almost instantaneously. The entire screen explodes into pulsating, colourful static.

A piercing screech blasts from the speakers on either side of the screen, metallic and chilling. They crackle with effort.

Without warning, the image snaps back into perfect clarity. All of the trolls lay lifeless, the Queen's flagship looming in the background. The audio cuts back in- now you can hear the whirr and beeping of machinery. The video continues like for another two minutes.

You turn the video off.

“We need to find the control room." Elidae said, walking down another long corridor swiftly. While she still kept her eyes open for daywalkers, she had to wipe a tear away from her cheek quickly. She couldn't cry. She had to put on the mask again and continue her duty.

What would Kursha do. What would Kursha do. What would Kursha do. She repeated in her head, but she realized she wasn't Kusrha. And she had to deal with this as well as she could on her own.

"Ah, just a moment! I wanna check if this still works!" Amonee pleaded with the rest of his team. He'd spotted a vending machine lining one of the halls and noticed that it was still lit up, apparently running on some kind of separate energy source. Perhaps it was engineered to keep working in the event of a power failure in order to function as an emergency refrigerator in order to preserve some rations.

Or perhaps commercial machines meant to earn a beetle were better built than the governmental stuff was all. He wouldn't put it past Alternian culture back in the day. He tried inserting a beetle and pressing some buttons but all that happened was it shot some sparks before a flood of fizzy blue colored soda started spraying out of the pick up slot.

Nope nopenopenope. This was too similar to the frightening juice droid that they'd encountered before. He scurried to rejoin the group, face flushed and pulse pounding.

"Aha, we should definitely go your way! Like now!"

The video was chilling. It was exactly what he'd been afraid to find. The greenblood closed his eyes when it was done, trying to keep it together.

"Elidae-" He tried to talk to her but she was already moving on. He understood that she was in shock but trying to push forward, trying to keep going for the mission. It pained him to see his friends act this way. First Frossa and now Elidae. Was she going to change beyond this as she continued to climb the military ranks? Was her duty going to trump her feelings?

He didn't know what the right answer was. He reached over to take Amonee's hand and continued walking.

Keeping the two behind her so they couldn't see her face, Elidae's pusher in her chest beat so loudly, it clouded her spongeclots. Making a brisk glance behind her, she noticed the two... holding hands. Her eyebrows shot up, and then she squinted towards the floor. Something in her ached. What were they and was this really the time? It didn't take long to find another open space for her to search around. Elidae remained hell-bent on success.

“AK-JL..." Elidae whispered to herself, her eyes scanning over the message. “That's AK-JL." She confirmed. This message certainly didn't give her the chills as badly as the last one, but it still made her extremely uneasy. Elidae made sure to record this message to report it back.
