Cpl. Psykgi Mentha

Oh dear, another closed door...

"Hang back a bit - we have another one." she announced. She didn't want to have a repeat of before, with the corrosive gas and all.

Not that there was much she could do - she wasn't trained for this skill and she had no idea what to look for - but she figured she'd at least check it out for anything obviously wrong.

Seems to be in order... she decided, testing the door. It was, however, shut tight.

"Anyone up for taking down this door?" she asked.

The door is locked

Zeylla nearly swaggered up to the door, her confidence after the fight evident in the way she walked, but it soon deflated as she realized she had busted her hands up bad in the last fight. They were too sore to be able to grip and pull the door open without lightening pain racing up her arms.

Maybe punching zombies until theyre mush against a solid steel floor was not the wisest idea. Or maybe they needed to stop running into closed doors.

Chiara sighed and flexed just a little. IT was the blueblood to the rescue, once again. She used all her weight to push the door down, and grinned as it finally opened. There, best troll on the team award? Yes, right to Chiara, thank you very much. That was totally the way it happened.

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.
The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!
You have encountered a ...

Dice 1
1. ... Enraged... (-1 to all attacks)
2. ... Jawless... (+1 on accuracy rolls)
3. ... Putrid... (-1 on all accuracy rolls)
4. ... Decomposing ... (+1 on all attacks)
Dice 2
1. ... Skeletal... (-5 miniboss HP)
2. ... Bellicose... (players take 2x the amount of damage on their first turn)
3. ... Armoured... (only 2 players per turn may use a special artifact/ability/item)
4. ... Burning... (take an extra 1 dmg each time you deal max damage (highest roll possible for weapon or damage-dealing skill))
Dice 3
1. ...Undead Ship Cook!
2. ... Mutated Daywalker!
3. ... Zombie Gerbil Pack!
4. ... Daywalker on Fire!
MINIBOSS STARTING HP: 30/30
If you rolled a 1, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 2, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 3, take 3 dmg.
If you rolled a 4, take 3 dmg.
If you rolled a 5, take 2 dmg.
If you rolled a 6, take 2 dmg. Your attack this turn does double damage.
If all party members reach 0hp, look below:
You must make a tactical retreat! Scrambling back out of the room,
you barely make it to the pod with all your limbs attached.
Better luck next time! You have retreated from your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

If the mini-boss reaches 0hp, look below:

If this is your first or second mini-boss fight look below:

If a member of your team is a trained Discipline or Endurace specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can close your eyes and draw on inner reserves to keep going. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Restore 1d10+3 OR 1/3rd (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Restore 1d8+2 OR 1/4th (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are training your skill: Restore 1d6+1 hp.
You cannot roll the dice then choose the flat restoration, one must be picked beforehand.

If a member of your team is a trained Troll Relations or Leadership specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can manage to cheer, rally, or cajole your teammates into finding more energy. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+3 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+2 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are training your skill: Each team member restores 1d4+1 (rolled separately) hp.

If this is your third mini-boss fight, you have reached the control room! Roll 1d4 and look in the spoiler below:

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*
2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*
If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.
Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

Decomposing?? Talk about gross! Chiara was ready to get this... thing out of their way asap. There was no need for disgusting things around this amazing party. Also, Chiara liked her hair just the way it was. Anything decomposing was just going to ruin that. It had to go.

"Thick skin? That's not so bad!" said Psykgi cheerily as she hacked on in behind Chiara, "Its practically falling apart, anyway."

Gog, though, it was gross looking. Even Ma'am wouldn't want to deal with it... though, who knew? The cockroaches loved stranger things.

Either way, her axe went through the daywalker - almost effortlessly. But it, honestly, wasn't that fun. Fun, yes, but not that fun.

But, eh, she'd take this fight.

ATTACK

Damage to Miniboss(+1): 5 damage
Miniboss HP left: 8/30

Zeylla leapt into the battle with what could be described as a skip in her step. If by skip you meant a full on sprint, and eagerly swung a few punches in between the swinging of axes and knives. It was like they were a well oiled killing machine. The greyblood found that perhaps, through blood and decaying flesh, she was bonding with her squadmates.

Chiara with her quick jabs, both with her knife and her words, and their strong and capable redblood leader-who she was going to learn the name of, for later use perhaps-, who swung that axe like it was an extension of her arm.

Yes, she was finding she was...enjoying this. Like a troll might enjoy tea with their pals. Except there was more blood and fleshy bits then usual tea time visits.

The opportunity presented itself and Psykgi just... cut it in half. Right in half, right down the middle with her axe.

It was slow moving, easy prey, and just managing to do that was so... satisfying. Or, at least, satisfying enough. She gave Chiara a thumbs up.

"All right." she said, as the thing fell apart, "We're done here, I think! Alibii? After you." she said, with a polite - very polite - and daywalker-flesh covered gesture.

The term zombie or zombi originally also referred to a snake-god in the voodoo religion of West Africa. If such a place even existed this would be relivent information. Luckily, no such thing as west Africa exists.

Zeylla couldn't help but smirk behind her mask at their leaders gesture, before nodding and leading them off in what she hoped would be a good direction, though her pace was slow as she started to feel the aches and pains of their most recent battle. She would be sore tomorrow, but at least she was covered in enough blood to hide any of her own bloodcolor.

Useful, to say the least. And really not...all that bad. It used to make her skin crawl, but walking down that open corridor, she considered it to be far less...taboo. Maybe her lusus had been wrong. Or maybe that was the bloodlust talking.

ATTACK N/A

She had hoped not to run into any more of their undead ship companions, at least till she didn't feel so sore. But with a groan, from both Zeylla and the shambling corpses coming towards them, she accepted that it was time once again to put her fists to work.

"Let's finish this quickly," before she couldn't take any more and had to turn back. Which she did not want to do. Failure was more painful then any wound.

As the undead crew came into clearer view, lit up by their headlights and the dim markers on the floor of the corridor, it became clear how many they would be dealing with.

Twelve, twelve shambling, rotting, half-decomposed zombies. Zeylla decided to take a step back and let Chiara take the first swing, since she seemed eager to take care of some of the pests, and the greyblood was happy to take a moment to prepare herself.

5 zombies killed
2 dmg +2 +1 (leadership)

Finally, a burst of clarity. Chiara managed to cut through several of the zombies like a knife through butter. If the butter smelled worse than a cat box on a summer day, and had rags, half decomposed bones, and made gross sounds when it got cut. Okay, scratch that, this was not really like butter at all. Butter went on toast, Zombies went in the fire pit.

Zeylla attempted to make an attack, but as she came into rang, her rib pinched just right, letting her know it was not all that happy, and her fist fell short of its target. The zombie she had been attempted to skullcrush took its opportunity(or just swung because could an undead troll really be aware of technical openings?) and grabbed at her, teeth gnashing and grinding and it(he) clawed at the greyblood, before she managed to kick it off and scramble back behind the other trolls.

She just...needed a minute.

Psykgi was pretty glad that the things weren't on fire because that would suck.

As it was, it was just fun - They really did go down easily. So... very... easily...

She supposed that it was their numbers that made a difference, that and when they came together into more powerful monstrousities. That, and the sun, was what kept trolls out of the daylight.

But maybe the night was what made them so strong - something about living in the dark, or not being exposed to the weakening light... Psy had no idea. It was some theory she'd seen in the literature, and she wasn't sure about it because, gosh, they had no test subjects did they?

Cant do science without test subjects.

Either way...

"Alibii, pick it up a little - dinner is riding on it!" she admonished. She was the leader here and - oh all right - the temptation to order people around was too much to resist...
