day 39
theme: redrawing a 5+ year old artwork that i loved

->

the original, called "Dismantle. Repair" is actually from 2009.
the background involved a whole lot of "cheating", as you can see, but it was one of the first images that i had with so much detail in it, plus i adore the song the title is taken from and with a bit of this and a bit of that, this image was easily a fave of mine back in the day.
i have to admit, even with the shitton of anatomical mistakes, i still find it sort of pretty, though I am having a bit of a hard time with accepting Zu's freakishly large head and disproportionate face.
drawing the newer version has so far proven to be extremely fun, mainly because my art teacher always pushes me to pay attention to proportions, which i still rarely do, but so far i have managed to see and fix so many mistakes that i usually miss that i can barely wait to work more on this baby.
i tried to give her more accurate proportions (body tilt was a HUGE issue) while still keeping the feeling of the original, but also make the clothing at least a bit more believable than before as a heavily inspired kimono-styled dress
there's a bit more i want to do here and there in terms of details and touchups to the sketch before i move to coloring and mapping the background (i'll probably cheat the flowers again, but i want the back to be less shitty gradient and more actually something of interest)
sadly, that would be it for today, since it's 1am and i still have one day of working overtime left!!
