Jason pressed his body further into the corner, his hands gripped white on the bloodied handle of a kitchen broom. The broom handle was broken on one end having already been used in battle. How as he going to get out of this? Was there even an ‘out’ to get to?
Jason slid silently against the wall towards the door he knew lead to the bathroom. There would be candles in there. There always was. He reached behind him and turned the knob as slowly as possible so as to avoid any squeaking. He didn’t want to give away his location. He opened the door only as much as was needed to slip inside. He flipped the lock. Sure, they might not have hands to work a knob but he wasn’t about to waste a single level of protection.
Jason fished under the sink feeling for the candles.
“Come on,” he whispered. They had to be here. Panic set in. Had they been moved? He needed light. He just needed it. It wouldn’t really help him in the long run but the thought of light was a comfort he badly wanted. Aha!
He pulled out two round candles and a lighter, placing them on the counter. He lit the wicks and turned the handle of the blinds to be sure no extra light got out through the window. There might be more out there and he didn’t need a whole pack of zombies after him.
Jason plopped down on the edge of the tub and pulled the phone from his pocket. The screen had gotten cracked in at some point in the evening. At least it still worked, he thought.
Thank god.
He brought up YouTube and searched for information. Surely there had to be something up that would give him an idea of how widespread things had become. Only a few videos, came up. Which probably meant it was an isolated incident.
Jason let himself recline against the wall, closing his eyes.
“What am I going to do now?”

A high pitched moan made him jump. He must haven fallen asleep. Jason stood and pulled the broom back to him, aiming the sharp point at the door. Surely it couldn’t get in. Right? There was no way it could work a door.
He backed up as far as possible, ready for an attack. This time he’d be sure to kill it.
The door shook. At the base of the door Jason could see small points of flesh poking under… seeking. <******** you,” he gritted his teeth. The creature had already devoured his family, it wasn’t going to get him too. He pushed back the fear, reaching forward to flip the lock. He turned the knob slightly so that only a push would be needed to open the door. “Come and get me!”

Jason moved back, ready to strike. The door burst open and gangly mess of limbs and fur slunk in. The hideous moans echoed in the small. What was left of the tail twitched like a broken snake. Was it even walking on its paws anymore? After the first round maybe its legs were to twisted to be useable. Easier for him.
Jason moved the tip over the top of what had once been his beloved pet cat and took a breath. It had to be done. This wasn’t his friend anymore. It was a monster. A monster that ate his family and ruined his ******** you Mittens!” Jason plunged the end of the broom right through the creatures head. Blood. “Kill the brain, kill the zombie.” It was done.
