Further, space is a vacuum, meaning that sound cannot carry because there is nothing out there for the vibrations to be carried through. Out here, no one can hear them as the zombies attacked, and as his team took hits and made tough decisions. It was loanly. Space isent empty, however. Debree and other bits of matter float around these areas of the universe, some from the Empress's own ships.

Engrav advanced through the now-open hatch cautiously. The first thing that he caught was the smell. Something rancid and vile, not just decay but sour as well, like something left in the sun too long. Something behind a display of whirling lights moved, a halting, gasping motion that made Engrav's hair stand on end.

"We're not alone here" he whispered to the rest of the assembled trolls. The yellowblood flattened himself against a wall, and willed himself to disappear.

No one knows exactly how big space is. The difficulty arises because of what we can see in our lookstalkes. We measure long distances in space in "light-years," representing the distance it takes for light to travel in a year. Yet, even with this massive both speed and distance, trolls had made it to the far reaches of the universe. To where other life lived, and now, was dead. Probably! The Empress was pretty into making sure everyone knew how strong and amazing an Empress could even be.

The horrid fleshbeast surged toward the small group, chittering madly. Engrav spun away, shielding his face from the torrent to tiny, stinking corpses that assailed all of the assembled trolls. His sniffnode wrinkled in disgust, and he quickly found himself swarmed.

His grasping hand managed to find something loose in the assembled panels and screens - a chair? he swung it into the mass of seething flesh with all his strength, willing the teeming bodies away from him and himself away from the nightmare in the room.

Hold on a minute. Were those? Were those gerbils!? Okay, Etsali had experience dealing with the usual array of dead trolls but gerbils were definitely a new one. Somehow it was even more disturbing seeing them like that, all skeletal and oozing, than it was the trolls. Yelping, the orangeblood kicked out at the pack that swarmed towards her and tried to back away as quickly as she could.

The nice thing about gerbils? They were small. The not so nice thing about gerbils? So many teeth and so many claws. Ephias hopped around, crushing the simultaneously crunchy and gooey rodents underfoot. “How did they even get up here?” he asked, as another fell victim to his boot. He threw Etsali an accusing look.

Using Power Adept Agility B!

Static could not just let things sit how they were. He needed to be a good leader, a great leader! If he was to advance more into the depths of the military. He needed something under his belt, something impressive. The blueblood had dreams, and he needed to pursue them! Static felt the electricity well up inside of him, and he let it out, all in the face of the great terrible beast he was currently fighting.

As the last of the zombie gerbils stopped moving, Etsali let herself fall back to sit and catch her breath. "Gerbils," she said after a moment, voice still a little shaken, and she shook her head. Beside her their military leader sounded distressed and she didn't know if the yellowblood was doing much better. Taking a deep breath, she looked up at Ephias.

Static was exhausted. That last... monster? Thing? Amalgamation? Had been just downright horrid. He still remembers how the thing's face looked, if you could even call it a face. It.. it was the first time he had ever seen something so terrible since the whole space tower thing, and the blood... his blood... all over his hands and on the ground. The blueblood was frozen in his memories, shaking at the pain the memory brought back. "Uh, can, uh, help." Static managed.

As the last of the skeletal gerbils died, so did the squeaking. Ephias felt a little bad, as he lifted his boot and saw the goopy remains clinging his sole. The gerbils did not deserve this. Probably. He awkwardly scraped it off against the floor. He looked towards his comrades. They all appeared to be shaken by the battle, speechless and voices sullen. Even Etsali, as battle-hardened and dauntless as she was.

The orangeblood caught his lookstub, and Ephias slipped his hand around hers. He gave it a brief squeeze, before letting go to attend to their squad leader. The blueblood stood paralysed, unmoving, with a vacant look in his eyes. Ephias started to reach for him. He paused, then placed his hand on Static's shoulder. “Hey,” he said. “Everyone's all right.” He peered into the blueblood's eyes, searching. After a moment, they seemed to focus in on his face. “You're going to be okay.”

He turned over his shoulder to look at Etsali and Engrav. “Anyone need any... any medical attention?” He called out. “I have some equipment in my bag... No? Let's just relax for a minute then. Etsali, if you could just take a quick look outside and make sure nothing else is on its way.”

Engrav sat for a moment as they regrouped, trying to catch his breath. He wasn't useless to the group, was he? It wasn't like the yellowblood valued himself highly in a fight, but he felt like he'd held his own alright so far for an amateur. Taking a deep breath, he steeled himself to do better as the group collected together, ready to surge forward again.

[1d6+2 heal (leadership). Engrav heals for 5 HP!]

ets scouts

Bolstered by the chance to rest and Ephias's words, Etsali turned her attention back to the exploration effort. The less of those encounters they had, the better, so maybe another scouting attempt was in order. She didn't like the idea of going off on her own quite as much now but...well, had to be done. "Scouting ahead. Wait here, please."

Etsali had hoped to find another open door, maybe. An empty corridor at least. No undead preferable. And as she moved along the hallway it seemed she might at least achieve the last of those. And then she turned the corner, of course, and she gave up on those ideas.

ets makes faces at 12 zombies

There had been a sort of a shuffling noise, now that she thought about it, but this was way more than she'd expected. Twelve of them was too much! She reached for a kunai, hurriedly back away as they began to lurch towards her. "Undead here! Maybe, uh, twelve or so? Help please!"

The rest had helped. Now that he'd managed to recenter himself, he wasn't quite as jumpy. Hadn't flinched from shadows. Instead, as the rainbow drinkers had closed, Engrav had thrown himself into the fray. Maybe he wasn't a fighter, but the yellowblood at least had plans to hold his own. He managed a punch to the jaw of a shambling monster, heard the satisfying crunch of bone. The yelowblood shuddered a bit. He couldn't tell if he'd enjoyed that, or if it had sickened him. Maybe a little of both.

[round 1: Engrav kills 5 zombies. 5 zombies remain.]
