"Mmhm." Misha picked up the remote and toyed with it idly. She kept her snuggled position, though, against her friend. His warmth and the quiet strength of him made it completely unattractive to move away. "Kind of. She's started hinting." She paused, then, and a slight feeling of guilt stole over her, darkening her expression. Luckily, her cheek was against Brian's shoulder so he missed it. "So I'm being a horrible daughter and hinting back," she admitted. "I don't want to move back to Philly. I can't, anyway. We need to stay here. Even if it's been quiet."

Women were more open with their emotions, sure, but maybe they weren't so easy to read all the time. Brian took a moment to try and reason it out. She had no boyfriend, not as far as he could tell, but she was hinting back against a mother attempting a set-up. So she was...?
Brian chuckled and shifted his weight slightly, straightening up.
"So, what's he like?" If there was a fake boyfriend in the works, damned if he wasn't going to learn all about him!

"Well..." Misha drawled the word as if considering her choice of words. She tapped out a vague rhythm against her own hip. "He's very sweet, of course. Thoughtful. A little protective but it's okay. Totally understandable, really, when you think about what he did for a living and what we get up to now." She grinned sideways at him. "And he's really damn hot."

Brian laughed. "Sounds like a real stud!" Almost unbelievable, but he wasn't about to start critiquing Misha's creation of a fake boyfriend. Certainly her mother would prefer someone mostly-good to someone realistically bad. He recaptured his bottle of soda.
"What's his name?" he asked as he took a swig.

Surprisingly, his question raised a touch of pink to her cheeks and Misha bit her bottom lip. A touch of guilt brushed her conscience again. There was a line between teasing and using and it felt like she had nearly reached it. "... I've managed to avoid name dropping," she admitted. "Mom's started guessing, though. The woman has a mind like a steel trap when it comes to names I mention."

A lot of innocent things flew over Brian's head, but the blush did not. He wasn't sure if it was a right-out lie that she'd never mentioned a name, but might she have been thinking of his? He didn't want to be egocentric, but boy was her expression implying volumes. He arched a brow and smirked.
"Well, if you ever need a hot, thoughtful guy to pose as this nameless fellow..." he teased, voice clearly exaggerated, and he flexed his right bicep. "I'll be your fake boyfriend!"

"You say that like a girl wouldn't jump at the offer!" Misha burst into giggles at his little display and rolled onto her hip. Somehow she managed to extract a pillow from beneath them and aimed it at his head with playful force. She even managed to get a few whacks in before he could defend himself. Her laughter continued throughout, leaving her breathless when she finally added, "You better be careful with your offers, Handsome, or I really will take you home with me."

Brian grinned at having made Misha laugh. Even if it could be pretty easy, it always felt like a triumph. Admittedly he wasn't in the best position to defend himself, so when the pillow slid out from behind him and came at his head he could only marginally lose balance and struggle to get an arm up to protect himself. He was laughing even as he did, though, and eventually he got a forearm between himself and the fluffy bludgeon.
"Your mom doesn't scare me!" he said. He grabbed the pillow and tugged it down, a sideways grin still plastered across his face.

The idea was a wicked one. Downright horrible and wicked and awful and totally beyond what would be considered fair. However, when he looked at her like that, Misha could not help it from rearing its head. Maybe he would get mad if she asked or maybe, if she asked just right, he would only laugh. There would be no way he would agree to such a ridiculous thing. It would be straight out of a bad rom-com and they had watched enough of those together to see them coming a mile away. Still... Misha relinquished the pillow to Brian's hold and let momentum carry her towards him until she was once more snuggled up against him. "You aren't, huh?" she asked lightly. "Would you want to meet her?"

Misha's warmth was more than welcome against Brian's chest, but her words threw him off just a little. His expression remained mostly passive, as ever, but there was thought behind his eyes. Meet her mom? It wasn't necessarily the strangest thing, considering their friendship, but it was a curious offer at the tail-end of what they'd been laughing about. It was a moment before he answered.
"Sure. I mean, if you want me to." Then he'd owe his sisters, of course, but eventually there had to be a run-in between Prytaneum life and outside life. Living in two separate worlds simultaneously was difficult enough. Relationships were nicer when they were allowed to intersect.

"I actually think I do." It unnerved her slightly to realize her glib answer was true but, then again, this was Brian and he was not only one of her best friends but also terribly fun to flirt with and tease. She always enjoyed his company, no matter how many hours they spent together. Misha watched his face from beneath coyly lowered lashes. "Wanna run the Mom Gauntlet with me in Philadelphia, Brian?"

Brian was surprised by Misha's answer, even if she had clearly been leaning that way. It was unusual, for him, for a friend to want to introduce him to their parents. A girlfriend, sure, but a friend? Even his best friend. Usually it just turned out that he ended up visiting and said 'hello,' but as an adult he supposed it had to work differently.
Her wording, though, confused him. He laughed.
"The Mom Gauntlet?" he asked. Was her mother really that critical?
ShortGreen I don't think he gets it, the poor dear.

Suddenly, it hit her square between the eyes and Misha almost burst into laughter. Even though the suggestion had been his in the first place, he was missing every single hint she threw his way. A girl had to wonder how he had managed on the police force, as a detective, if these flashing lights did not penetrate his brain. Presumably, differences existed between flirting and crime solving. She hoped. Giggling, Misha leaned in even closer and set a small hand smack dab in the center of his chest. She grinned from ear to ear. "Want to give Mom a face to go with the name of the guy she is convinced is my boyfriend?"

Now it was Brian's turn to be struck. Yes, a friend certainly got a different gauntlet than a boyfriend. His eyes widened a moment, and then he laughed. It was just a little bit immoral to pretend to be someone he wasn't, but without a face or a voice at least, Misha's mother would probably always wonder why her daughter had gone off. They certainly couldn't tell the truth. While that might not make it totally okay... what could it hurt, really? What harm could they possibly do?
"I think it might make me a terrible person, but I will definitely run the Mom Gauntlet with you," he said, and put a hand over Misha's, "Sweetheart." It was like going undercover with none of the risk of bodily harm.
