He held still as Lauri examined his face once more, feeling his heart sputter stupidly again at the gentleness of it all. Stupid because Lauri was being nice and Yuuri was making a bigger deal of it in his mind. It was entirely possible for people to be nice.

Yuuri just… hadn’t met many who he’d actually talked to on multiple occasions. Meeting someone and having a pleasant conversation and then never talking to them again was one thing, but Yuuri had first burned Pasi with coffee, and then had met him again as another incarnation as Lauri, who’d helped him again.

“You have a habit of taking people home with you, don’t you?” he asked without really thinking. The curiosities that swirled in his head seemed like they were escaping easier than usual. Most of the time he had to force himself to ask a silly question like that, or make a comment about something. But then again, as Lauri had said, he was a little stoned.

“You brought me back with you as Pasi, and again as Lauri when I got hurt. And again tonight,” he observed as he lifted the ice back to his face, covering his swollen eye. “Do you really have a scar from when I burned you? I’m sorry. I feel bad about it. And I’m sorry you can’t remember things. Is that difficult? Or is it a relief? I think it would be nice if I could forget my past. Maybe I wouldn’t… be like I am.”

It was easier for him to talk, although he wondered if Lauri would get annoyed with him. He didn’t say anything about the leeches though, but had nodded in understanding when he was told they’d wait a little longer to see how he felt.

His face might not hurt as much as it had before, but Lauri didn’t know that.

"Do I?" Lauri didn't know, maybe he did - maybe he had as Pasi, maybe he would continue to have one as Lauri. Maybe it was just something he did for some weird reason...like some folks were compelled to collect objects, he had to grab people and drag them back to his place of residence. "Maybe I do. I don't really know."

The Finn laughed a little, rubbed his face against the covers and dropped back against the bed to stare up at the ceiling. "I do have a scar. Wanna see?"

Is it easier this way? I don't know if that's a question I could answer normally, let alone right now. It's just...different, maybe. Expectations are different...something like that. Lauri rolled to face Yuuri, then took his hand, rubbing it gently, "It's...different. It would be harder if I were still Pasi...but I'm not."

Or is it just me? he thought but couldn’t bring himself to ask. That was a little too much, and even in the state he was in, he knew better than to push those boundaries. If only for himself. It would be better not knowing.

Yuuri wanted to shift onto his side so he could watch Lauri’s expressions better, but he knew he was already going to be badly bruised and he didn’t want to agitate anything unknowingly. And as long as he didn’t move it wasn’t all that painful.

“I do want to see,” he heard himself saying as he turned his head as best he could, hoping it wasn’t too weird that he was curious, or that he was possibly trying to memorize the different freckles on Lauri’s cheeks and bridge of his nose. This was already dangerous for him to get too attached. He already had Adrien to think about, to worry about and take care of, it wasn’t fair of him to feel like he wanted to know more about Lauri too, was it? He didn’t know.

“Did it hurt? Being corrupted like that,” he asked, his voice quiet, more somber. He didn’t pull his hand away from Lauri’s touch, but Yuuri turned his own hand to mirror Lauri’s palm, absently mimicking the movements of his fingers.

“From what you were before… I mean… I’m assuming it hurt since…” Since it hurt when he’d been corrupted. But Lauri was also stronger than he was. “Sorry, that was a stupid question.”

"See? Oh, yeah sure. Just give me-" Lauri would have shown him, right then and there, but Yuuri was asking another question and also touching back and there was one thing that he was enormously weak to when stoned and it was petting. "I'll show you in a bit." Yuuri's hand was soft, so unlike his own - so very nice. Lauri could imagine it in his hair, on his face, wrapped around his--

Nope. Inappropriate.

Focus on the question. "Not a stupid question at all. And it hurt like a b***h." Lauri was still smiling, but it was kind of distracted, and his fingertips tapped rhythmically against Yuuri's palm for a moment before going back to idle petting. "I think being willing helped some, but...that was not pleasant, at all. ******** hurt and left me weak as hell. Worth it though."

Lauri fell silent, fingers sliding up Yuuri's wrist; he wasn't really thinking about anything specific, he was just lost for a bit. Then he remembered: the scar. "Oh. Yeah. You wanted to see."

So the Finn flopped onto his back again, lifted his hips and shoved the tatty sweats down to his knees without hesitation. He did have a bit of a struggle to sit up because otherwise Yuuri would have had to bend to see and that would have been painful. "See?" Yuuri's propensity towards modesty was preserved by Lauri having worn a t-shirt that was long enough to provide cover for his groin. "It's not that bad, just a bit of a scar."

Was it odd to be showing someone your inner thigh? Maybe. He was stoned though, and didn't care.

Yuuri very much enjoyed seeing the way Lauri smiled, mostly because he had a feeling that Lauri, like himself, didn’t smile that often. He also didn’t miss the way Lauri seemed to hesitate as he brushed his fingers against Lauri’s palm, and then his wrist as Lauri’s slid up his own hand and wrist.

The entire bed, although quite sturdy and well made, seemed to shake each time Lauri flopped onto the mattress. It was all a little overdone and rather endearing, which made Yuuri wonder if this was what Lauri was really like, or if it was just the effects of the drugs. Not that it really mattered, but it was amusing to think of how Lauri might be if he was completely comfortable.

He pushed himself up as much as he could, a vague thought of oh yeah, he did say it was on his thigh fluttering through his head as he peered over at the burn scar. The t-shirt was in the way of anything that could be considered inappropriate, but it was clearly only Yuuri who cared. Lauri (and Pasi) had stripped in front of him without a care, so either there was something wrong with him for caring too much, or Lauri was just that much more comfortable about things than he was.

And Lauri had nice legs, so it wasn’t as though Yuuri was complaining, even though he probably shouldn’t be looking. In fact, all of Lauri was nice to look at, and probably better to touch. Not that he was curious. Okay, he was a little curious. A lot curious. But he shouldn’t. But it also wouldn’t hurt, right? It was just a comfort thing.

“I’m sorry,” he said again, before easing himself back down onto the bed with a hiss of pain. Slightly exaggerated? Maybe. There was no proof. “Wolfeite brought me to the Rift after I was corrupted. Just for a little while. And then he brought me back to where he found me. I wasn’t dead at least, but I didn’t take it too well, I don’t think,” he admitted, wondering if he should be sharing or if it just went to show how weak he was.

Once settled, it was his turn to reach out and take Lauri’s hand into his, seeing if he was right about the hesitation from before, and because he was curious about the calluses and burn scars and how they felt. That was okay, right?

Lauri was Finnish, was the difference. He had - well, Pasi had - grown up around nudity as no big deal, so it was ingrained as just that: no big deal. Nudity wasn't inherently sexual because bodies weren't inherently sexual, which meant that being nude wasn't anything to be embarrassed or weird about...and that was why he just didn't give a s**t about dropping his sweats to show off the small scar on his inner thigh to Yuuri even though Yuuri's cheeks went pink over it.

"It's not so bad, I've had worse from building things." Obviously, considering the state of his hands and body - Lauri didn't actually remember any of these accidents, though his body could recall the pain well enough that it remembered to avoid pain when repeating certain tasks. Lauri pulled his sweats back up and frowned with concern at Yuuri's hiss of pain; it seemed as though three breaths hadn't been enough. Even though it hadn't quite been fifteen minutes - or had it? - the Finn figured that he'd need to repeat the earlier process with his pipe and the smoke at least once more. Probably twice.

"The Rift is no place for our kind." Lauri closed his eyes a moment, scrubbed his hand over his face and then added, "Without an escort. The monsters in the Rift like to eat us best." Yuuri took his hand and Lauri turned his head to look at his packmate, but made no move to stop him; in fact, the Finn seemed to be smiling a bit as he continued, fingers spreading out a bit, "We're like, the most delicious s**t they could possibly get, you know?"

This is nice. Really nice. His hands are soft...really soft. I'll get the box in a minute...this is fine for now. Yeah.

”Is Wolfeite one of those monsters?” he asked quietly, but there was no concern or distress, just resignation. Gently, he pulled Lauri’s hand back over his stomach above the covers so he wouldn’t have to turn and awkwardly reach as much, the tips of his fingers absently following the lines of Lauri’s hand.

“He told me that I shouldn’t be there on my own, that youma hate senshi and will try to eat us,” Yuuri said, turning his head just enough to look up at Lauri again. He’d opened his mouth, but hesitated on actually asking what he wanted to ask. It was obvious that Lauri… that Aue would not have any problem in dealing with Wolfeite. Or at least Yuuri sincerely hoped he wouldn’t have any issues. But for Yuuri? He was small and weak and if Wolfeite wanted to, he could easily end Yuuri’s life.

“Sometimes it feels like he’s waiting for me to mess up so he can get rid of me,” he finally admitted, voice quiet and his throat feeling tight with the fear that threatened to bubble up. He did his best to keep it down because Lauri had dealt with his being emotional enough for one evening.

“He scares me,” he mumbled, realizing only a few moments after saying it that he’d curled his fingers around Lauri’s and had been squeezing them.

Yuuri cleared his throat and finally pulled his hand away from Lauri's, moving it instead to rub against his chest to try and calm his rapid heart, his other hand still holding the ice against his face.

"The General is...half. So, I guess he is, in a way. He bit us both, didn't he?" There was maybe some truth in that; perhaps some psychology behind the way Wolfeite treated his senshi that was partially based on the natural disdain (and hunger) that youma held for them.

"He told you the truth, it's very dangerous there." Yuuri had his hand and it was a bit difficult to think beyond wanting him to keep petting - there had been enough time now that Lauri just kind of wanted to climb into Yuuri's lap and demand attention like one of the cats might for a beer. He didn't, only because he kept reminding himself that the ice was because Yuuri was hurt - his packmate was a patient. "The Wolfe isn't wasteful, Yuuri. He might forget that we're not built like officers, but no. I think not."

But he was scared and that wasn't good. Scared enough to let go of the hand he'd been crushing in favor of doing that thing he did to try and slow his racing heart. Lauri got his box again and set it on the bed before worming under the blankets so he could pull Yuuri into his lap. The ice on his shoulder was set aside since it wouldn't stay sitting up like that, but it was okay, there were more important things - right?

"You don't have to be afraid, Yuuri." Pack was pack was pack and he was no longer alone. There were others to stand with him and help him survive. Including the Finn now rubbing his cheek against the non-bruised side of Yuuri's face like a damn cat, box out of mind temporarily because he was either trying to comfort Yuuri...or because he'd gotten distracted while trying.

A startled squeak escaped as Yuuri found himself pulled into Lauri’s lap, his arm lifting to hold onto Lauri’s shoulder as he got comfortable. Maybe Lauri just liked picking people up? It was easy with Yuuri since he was on the smaller side, but Lauri had done it often enough to seem more like a habit than just something he did with Yuuri.

It was endearing, even though Yuuri wondered if he should be concerned that Lauri seemed content to just scoop him up whenever. Not that Yuuri really minded, he just hoped it didn’t paint him in an even more negative light.

“I’ll try not to be,” he agreed, not pulling away as his face was rubbed against, a little surprised by the amount of affection he was getting, or maybe this was just what Lauri was like when he was stoned. Maybe Lauri just liked a little affection in return? Yuuri was sure he would be told immediately to stop if he did anything Lauri didn’t like.

Cautiously, although not as cautiously as he normally would have been if he wasn’t feeling as light as he was, he ran his hand up the back of Lauri’s neck, gently scratching there, before his fingers slid higher to find the elastic that bound Lauri’s long, wavy hair to pull it free.

Picking people up and carting them around was definitely something that the Finn had a habit of doing - he'd done it as Pasi, he was continuing the tradition as Lauri. Granted, it seemed he was doing it more with Yuuri than he'd done with anyone other than Archer, but hey...who was counting, right?

"Mm..good. I'll be around, so you don't need to worry so much." Yuuri smelled pretty nice, maybe a little sharp from fear-sweat but not unpleasant, and Lauri was content to put his face against his packmate's neck.

The Finn made encouraging sounds as Yuuri's fingernails scratched against his neck and scalp, eyes fluttering closed. It was absolutely wonderful. He didn't even mind when his hair came loose from the pony tail and fell around his face. "That's...really nice." Lauri's voice had a slightly dreamy feel to it; when he opened his eyes he caught sight of the gear box and remembered - he should be taking care of Yuuri. Not putting his face in Yuuri's neck.

"How's your pain level now?" One arm was around his packmate's waist loosely, the other tucking the blankets around them solicitously.

Oh. This was a little surprising. It was pretty obvious that Lauri was enjoying himself, or was at least content. That was a good thing, because after a stressful day, Yuuri wanted Lauri to be comfortable and stress free, too. And he had taken up a good amount of his time trying to make sure Yuuri was okay.

The pain was not as bad as he’d made it out to be, and while Yuuri was sure he could convince Lauri that he was still in need of attention, it was surprisingly nice to see him like this.

“I’m okay,” he confessed, lowering the ice that he’d been holding to his face to an unoccupied spot of the bed. This way he could almost teasingly press his cold hand to Lauri’s cheek as he hid his face against Yuuri’s neck. He only left his hand there for a moment, and then lifted it to brush back the hair that fell over Lauri’s face. His other hand twisted the elastic so it could rest around his wrist before he repeated the movement of gently scratching the back of Lauri’s neck.

Hazily, Yuuri wondered if it was okay that he was perfectly content in Lauri’s lap with his arm around his shoulder, hand at the back of his neck. This was not where he’d expected he’d be when he decided to go out that night, but at the moment he stoned and didn’t care.
