StitchesHis jeans hadn't been solid when Ever had been swept away in the first place. Even then, they'd been frayed at the hem and shredded near the knee, worn so thin in places that skin showed through when he shifted. After some time spent living roughshod like a castaway, they were now starting to fall to pieces -- and thus far, he hadn't been willing to commit to cutoffs. Not yet. Instead, he was struggling to patch them up with a bone needle and bits of his coat, and he was a terrible seamstress.

wanderlust
Zane couldn't remember who he had talked to and who he hadn't. Friend wasn't a word he would use to describe most of the people he 'met' on the island but it was small enough that he 'knew' of everyone on it.
Which made things embarrassing when he realized she knew his name and he didn't know hers.
"Yeah," he replied, staring unfocused at the coconut in her hand. Eventually he accepted it, holding it with both hands in his lap. "I - heh," he shook his head, glasses slipping down his nose only to be shoved back up with his shoulder. "I don't remember your name." A pause and then he added, "Sorry."

overdueHer brows creased at that question before delicate features were over taken by a puzzled look. "What do you mean?" stitchesIt was painful to watch, and after about five minutes Peyton would take the needle and pants out of his hands with an exasperated sigh. "They're going to be more patches than pants at this rate." wanderlust"Peyton," she offered with a small chuckle, letting her hands fall back to her lap now that they were empty. "How's it going?" Because aside from asking about fish, or coconuts, that was pretty much the only question she had for him. And who wanted to talk about coconuts?

For His Sake"I just don't understand why?" He gave Peyton an exaggerated almost comical shrug. "I mean, I get why you were mad - but I don't get why you are still mad if you don't want him?" He gave her the sincerest look he could muster. He wasn't trying to be accusatory and his tone was kept soft and even with a certain questioning inflection as it was something he honestly didn't understand. "I just. I stopped being mad at you when he... when we got together." But he wanted to understand, or he wouldn't be asking. "I just, I don't understand."

overdueShe frowned as he fumbled over his words. "Is that really what you mean?" She didn't sound like she believed him, and actually dropped her gaze. "I'm fine. There's plenty of water, and fish, and coconuts." for his sakeLips pursed, she thought about that for a moment, about how she felt about it, and why. In truth, a lot of that anger had dissipated over time, but not all of it. "I'm mad at you," she finally admitted, looking up at him. "Because you seem to think you were entitled to him, that I stole him from you, when I didn't even know you were interested in him to begin with. He showed interest in me, not the other way around. I'm mad because even now, you need a leash to keep from saying snide, shitty things to or about me." She snorted softly, before her voice lowered, mimicking his poorly. "I'd comment, but I'm not allowed to." Her head shook, brows creasing. "How is that any better?

For His SakeAl looked a bit shocked at her answer before huffing a little and then... "Maybe because I was?" He finally conceded. She was right, he felt entitled to Noah, but his reasons for that had never been clarified, not to her anyway. "I asked him out and he said yes but then somehow." He looked around at anything but her but while gesturing at her with his hands. As for the mimicry, his voice raised up - clearly in agitation and now the discussion was going south and far less constructive. "I was asked. I promised. So every time you're a s**t to me I have to ignore it or let it go because he doesn't want me to say anything to you." He sounded incredibly frustrated in addition to everything else. "And don't pretend like you don't just take jabs at me just because it's me." He sighed loudly and then looked down at his feet. "I'm not some evil ******** warlock or whatever."

for his sakeWhatever happened between the two of you before Noah and I got together, " she was quick to counter, hackles raising a bit. "Didn't have anything to do with me. I didn't take him from you. Maybe you should look at the events leading up to us getting together, and ask yourself what might have led to him being interested in me." Things were going down hill, though that was hardly surprising given how much the both of them disliked each other. But at least they were still talking. "You're a patronizing s**t, and you say a lot of stupid stuff, so yeah, I take shots at you, but that doesn't have anything to do with him. And you've picked your fair share of fights with me, so don't even pretend like you're innocent in all this. You're not." She stopped, took a breath, and let it out slowly before continuing. "You got what you wanted, yay for you. I got lied to, and spent weeks having the person I loved avoid me. And when I finally learned why he'd broken up with me, it was to be with you. So excuse me for still being a little bitter, but that sort of thing lingers with a person."

overdue"Well ... here and home, too," Noah said, subdued. She seemed reasonably okay in the occasional glimpses he caught of her and the exchanges on Twitter that he'd seen. He didn't know why he'd asked. It wasn't like they were really friends anymore, after everything; even if she wasn't okay, he wasn't someone she'd go to to talk about it. "Is ... is there anything you wanted to ask me?"

overdueIt had been a week of confessions, and Peyton wasn't sure if she was up for it again. She was tired, drained from the fight with the squid, the wave, the ring, and just days on the island and far too much dredging up of the past. "I'm surviving, it's fine." Fine enough. "Why didn't you just tell me you'd had a change of heart? Why did you avoid me?"

stitches"It wouldn't be the first time, for me." He looked faintly amused as she took over -- and Ever totally let her do it, leaning back and just watching as she set to repairs with a more expert hand. "I had a pair of jeans back when that was more hole than denim. They hung like chaps around my legs. I fixed those up with duct tape; it worked surprisingly well." He shrugged, just a tiny bit. "Too bad we don't have any of that, hey?"

overdueNoah nodded. He didn't know whether she was telling the truth, but maybe that was for the best; this was what she was willing to tell him, and there was more value to that than he'd realized before. He winced a little at the question, but made himself meet her eyes to answer it. "At first, because I was afraid to tell you. Then because I knew I was screwing up by avoiding you, which doesn't make any sense but that was why it was." His gaze dropped back to the sand, regretful. There had been a third reason, too; he'd needed to know who he missed more. But that was a cruel reason, and he wasn't wearing the ring to force it out of him.

fish aren't friends
"Suit yourself. But I'd find something to quiet that soon," she said with a little nod to her stomach. Wasn't she one of the Suns? Nora vaguely remembered something about close quarter combat, so she'd be just fine if she looked for a meal. "Wouldn't happen to have a match or torch on you, would you? Not feeling like eating sushi tonight."

wanderlust
Once she said it, things felt like they clicked into place more. How had he forgotten the name Peyton? "That's a nice name," he casually commented, staring more that the coconut in his hands than the girl he was seated next to.
"It's..." Zane's voice trailed off, freckled nose wrinkling as he lifted his gaze to the sky. "It's going, I guess." He still sane (mostly) and they seemed to be surviving alright.
He didn't really have friends so he didn't have to worry about strained relationships because of weird island things.
"I sleep a lot, there's not much else to do." He lifted the coconut and nibbled at the meat. "You?"

shaking it upEyebrows raised a bit at the urchin balanced on her palm. "Have you ever shucked the roe out of an urchin?" He hadn't, personally, but he had a friend who was a sushi chef in what was basically the dive-bar of sushi joints. You had to be in a dive-bar Asian joint to be a white sushi chef. It did not seem particularly easy and that was with the right tools. But Kade didn't discourage her past asking the question, choosing instead to sit with his feet touching the water, coconuts in the sand beside him. This island, unlike the Deus one he'd been on so briefly, was pretty relaxing. Challenging, yeah, but it all felt like some kind of reality show. Not quite real yet. "Times like this I should've been a chef, not a baker." He cracked a coconut and began to drink the water inside. "Lots more useful."
