The smile took Chance's breath momentarily away, because it was Otto entirely and completely unguarded, open and genuine. He felt himself flush, just the faintest amount, barely visible in the dark; the lightest touch of pink across his cheekbones as Chance made his way into the little sanctuary, slowly setting the telescope down safely on the blanket.

He took in their "guards" with a grin, Chance lowering himself down beside his telescope and making himself comfortable.

"Gee, I feel so protected now," he said with a laugh. "This is awesome. Is this why you were asking me about food earlier?"
PostPosted: Sat Jul 01, 2017 6:12 pm

"Yup." Otto answered, sitting down with Chance. The nervous ball of energy in his belly felt less like fear now, and more like the excitement it ought to be. Every fear and nightmare he'd created in his head, worrying and anticipating that the whole date he'd planned might end in failure and heartbreak. Thus far, he'd been completely proven wrong.

"Voila; fruit n s**t." He grabbed a Tostito and took a large bite, the loud crunch crisp and clear in the quiet night. He'd contemplated bringing music, even thinking up an entire playlist. However, in the end, the calming silence won out. He was glad it did. In the night air, mild yet breezy, not a chirp, murmur or rumble could taint the ethereal stillness of silence that enveloped them.

"Also still had that booze you like sittin' around my place. So, cheers to survivin' another disaster." He held up his own bottle, and it was obvious he'd not bothered with cups or shot glasses, bringing the classiness of the date down a peg. But to be fair, what could one expect from Otto in terms of class?

The fruit n s**t was from a can, Chance suspected, but it didn't make it less endearing. In fact, it probably made it more endearing, because in spite of the fact that this was clearly for him, it was still so very Otto at its core.

"Delicious," he said, helping himself to a plastic fork and taking a few bites of the peaches. Even dripping in syrup, they were good; maybe a tad on the overly sweet side (a lot), but that had never bothered him too much before, especially being with Otto.

There was a gentle breeze that kept sifting through the air, cooling everything down, the sky a dark, inky black peppered with stars. Chance loved it; he'd always loved the night, had always loved the way it felt so open and so raw and untainted. There was just - so much of it.

Chance dragged his gaze away from the sky and reached for his own bottle, smiling widely as he tapped it against Otto's.

"Here's to making it through more Horsemen s**t and coming out swinging," he intoned, and took a swallow.

Otto smiled, then took a sip of his own. He wasn't going to get plastered tonight. Not even tipsy. He just wanted the drinks to class up his little soiree. That being said, his idea of classing it up still involved drinking booze straight from the bottle...

He wasn't sure when he'd find the right moment to ask Chance what he wanted to, but blurting it out this soon wasn't an option. For now, he leaned back on one hand and gazed at the stars.

"I think I see why you like'em so much." Otto murmured, feeling the vastness of the sky swallow him whole. "Makes everythin' here feel like it ain't as big a deal as I think it is.."

Chance took another swallow himself, then corked the bottle again and set it aside, stretching out beside Otto, except fully on his back, Chance tucking his hands underneath his head and staring up at everything. Like this, it felt...open. Peaceful. They'd just had a rough, terrifying ordeal, but right now everything was calm.

"It relaxes me," said Chance, after a moment. "Sort of like you do. I feel...everything like this. The world keeps going, everything is so...raw and out there."

He lifted a hand and gestured vaguely at the stars. "It makes me feel like I can do anything, as cheesy as that might sound."
PostPosted: Sat Jul 01, 2017 6:42 pm

"Everythin' is cheesy comin' from you." Otto murmured back with smugness in his tone. He let the silence settle again between them, calmly looking out at the twinkling stars as the cool breeze swept over them both. After some time had passed, and Otto had helped himself to more chips, he turned to Chance.

"Let's play a game." He said as he sat up, legs crossed. "It's a questions game. I mean, we know each other pretty well, but I didn't even know yer favourite food, right?" He'd had to spend a good few hours scouring resources to think up different questions he could ask when it was his turn. One of the many preparations he'd made.

"I ask a question, you answer, then you ask and I answer. Don't gotta be nuthn' philosophical or whatever. Like..."

"What's your favourite shirt you own?"

"Rude," said Chance, but it lacked heat and actual meaning. His gaze was still fixed skyward, tracing the little dots of white, making paths inside of his head; thought drawn constellations, sketched through the air, forming pathways left and right and diagonal and everywhere.

He turned his head at Otto's voice again, glancing up at his boyfriend. "All right," he said, laughing, his eyes twinkling. "My favorite shirt?"

He hummed a little in thought, considering, then said, "I'd say the dark blue galaxy one, that's sort of a sweater but more like a long sleeved shirt. It's just...comfortable. I mean, most of my clothes are, except for the uniform."

He grinned up at Otto. "Your turn. Favorite drink that isn't booze."
PostPosted: Sat Jul 01, 2017 6:52 pm

"That one?" Otto tried not to laugh. He hated that shirt, but hey, he didn't have to share Chance's tastes in everything. At the very least, there was no risk of Otto stealing it like he had many others.

Otto thought quickly before coming up with an answer, "Dr. Pepper." He said with soft nod. Again, it was sugary junk. It was a wonder he had any teeth left at all. "I also like the cherry juice boxes from the cafeteria." Former cafeteria.

"Favourite song? Or um.. favourite song lyrics?"

"Hey, I don't judge you on what you wear," said Chance, which was a blatant lie, because he was always teasing Otto about his clothes. He was grinning, eyes still sparkling with amusement, one of his hands still tucked underneath his head, the other resting on his stomach.

"Juice boxes are a way to a man's heart," Chance said dramatically. "I like the apple juice boxes myself."

He made a mental note about the Dr. Pepper while he considered Otto's next question. "I used to listen to this one song back when I lived alone, called 'Time and Confusion' by Anberlin. It's not even the greatest song, but there's something nostalgic about it. I also really like 'Sweet Child O' Mine' by Guns and Roses, but that's just a classic."

Chance drummed his fingers thoughtfully on his stomach. "Favorite animal."
PostPosted: Sat Jul 01, 2017 7:07 pm

"Tch. What's to judge?" Otto remarked back, raising a brow with a dare. His style was flawless, thank you very much.

"Yeah, music don't gotta be perfect to be your favourite." Otto agreed, "Some of my favs ain't even all that popular. It's just gotta remind you of somethin'. Like.. assosiate it with a feelin' or a memory." However that same reasoning often had him disliking songs he used to love, once that memory became sour.

"Animal... dogs. Big, fluffy, drooly ones. Grandpa had a bigass sheep dog when I was growin' up. They're the best. I don't like small yippy ones though. They may as well be rats or cats at that point."

"What are you scared of? Normal stuff. Like.. I'm afraid of the dark, and centipedes." Just saying centipedes made him shudder visibly.

He almost said "plenty" just to be obnoxious, but refrained at the last minute. Chance gave a nod, Otto's voice wafting over him, familiar and warm and sinking softly into his head. "Yes, exactly," he said, smiling. "I just...think of being out on my own and s**t when I listen to them, it reminds me I didn't have to stick to the house I grew up in."

The house he would never go back to, and he was glad of it. Chance let out a laugh. "I love dogs, all dogs, but the small yappy ones are annoying sometimes. I'd want a German Shepherd, or something, or one of those huskies, they're huge."

He caught the shudder and reached out the hand that had been resting on his stomach, Chance's fingers curling loosely over Otto's in a small squeeze, though his eyes flickered back upwards.

"Centipedes are ******** terrible," he said in agreement. "I hate insects. I'm not afraid of the dark, but..."

He felt his pulse skip, just a little, his eyes lowering slightly, Chance's gaze moving across the sky once more. "Fire, I would say. Well...cigarettes, probably. One of my mother's boyfriends, he used to put out his cigarettes on my side when he wasn't happy with me."

And he still had the scars to show for it, tucked underneath the constellation tattoo across his ribs, though Chance hadn't ever said what it was for.

"What superpower would you want if you could have any? Like, superhero superpower?"

Otto took advantage of Chance's reassuring hand, lacing his fingers through his. He'd known that Chance had a rough upbringing, one of a completely different caliber than his own. "Good thing I don't smoke." He said lightly, just to keep the conversation light and casual. "I hate the smell of cigs anyway. It's gross." Taym had always smelled awful, but thinking about it, he still missed the guy regardless.

"Flying." Otto murmured after a moment, staring up at the sky. He left it at that for a moment, revelling in the imaginings of having the power to fly through the sky free and unchained.

"Or like.. explosion powers. Make things go boom." He thought of a new question, but rather thought he'd like to know Chance's answer to his own. "What about you? What'd be yours?"

He liked the way Otto's fingers felt in his; a simple gesture, just something for them both to hold onto. "Yes, a very good thing," Chance said, and laughed. "Cigarette smell is disgusting. You know me, I go with the flow, but man, I just can't stand cigarettes."

One of the only things he'd actually gotten a little worked up about later in life, though as usual, he'd tried to keep it lighthearted. Chance's memories flickered through his mind like a slide show, remembering the way that Otto had latched onto his hand in the desert.

"Oh, I'd love to fly," Chance murmured, eyes tracing the lines of a constellation he could almost physically see, line by line. "Flying would be amazing. I'm not big on the explosion power, you could totally rock that, but I think I'd either be about flying or maybe like...being able to control air or something, you know, the elements. Wind and s**t."

He smiled up at Otto. "If you could fly, where would be the first place you'd fly to?"
PostPosted: Sat Jul 01, 2017 7:41 pm

"Hmm.. nowhere, really. Ain't any place I wanna be. Just being able to fly in the sky aimlessly is what I want." He laughed at himself. "I think maybe it's just me likin' the idea of runnin' away again. I dunno. Since becomin' a hunter, I've had the world at my fingertips. Places on Earth don't seem so far away no more."

He took in a deep breath, finally letting himself lay back on the blanket along with Chance.

"Which of the movies I've made you watch was your favourite so far?" He'd not gotten to any of the deeper questions he'd wanted to ask, only because he'd forgotten what they were.

He was sort of in love with that idea; of being able to simply fly around the skies whenever he wanted, lost in the scent of the breeze and the feel of the wind on your face. "It would be amazing to just...fly around. See the world from a different perspective," Chance murmured, as Otto lay down beside him, both of them stretched out comfortably.

A laugh escaped, unintentional, but amused. "Definitely not Titanic, you brat. And I liked the Lion King, minus all the times you totally lied to me about what was going to happen."

He hummed a thought. "What about you? Favorite movie you made me watch, or just favorite movie in general."
