Ollie wanted to be cool and calm about it, but instead the encouragement left him a little bit flustered, almost embarrassed. He didn't answer her, just grinned back and saluted her with his weapon. It wasn't a sharp salute, but it was adorable.

Anna, for her part, was okay with the assessments the divisions put on. She knew the reasoning for them, she understood why they existed, and for the most part let her wail on something or someone without consequence. Today was no exception.
"Yer ugleh..." Anna grinned at the very weird plant monster, that looked like a giant pirhana plant from a video game. Her weapon made some sort of sigh as the familiar lupine daggers settled into her grips.
"Awh, come onnnnn Wolfeh, we got this."
Silvermane was less than enthusiastic.

Barked Silvermane in her mind, the daggers vibrating in her palms. Anna jumped back, vaulting over the creature with a grunt. She flipped them in her grip, blades pointing towards her elbows. She slashed forward , slicing through one of the vines and charged forward.
Yah worreh too much, Wolfeh, ah'll beh fine! she chastised him, ducking under another vine to slice at the ferns at the base of the plant. The leaf snapped off and fell behind her as she continued her pass.
Anna just laughed and shot forward again, enjoying this entirely too much.

For all of Silvermane's shouting and harping, Anna did end up putting on a good show. A very short show, but a decent one nonetheless. At least, she thought so. She danced around that giant creature with a lot of grace for someone so tall.
It really wasn't her fault that she got slammed in the chest with a vine, honest!
She just wasn't expecting it to grow back!

Seated quietly in a corner of the pit, Yakov rolled his eyes at Hunter's words. He had been looking forward to returning to Deus after spending months out at one of the Sahara bases exploring the desert while fending off Horsemen attacks. What he certainly didn't expect to find upon his return, was every single thing in his room in the basement ruined by the water from the flooding when the hurricane occurred last week.
It had taken Yakov a few days to clean up his room and go over his belongings to determine if anything could be salvaged at all. By the time he was done, his room was about as empty as the day he moved into it when he woke up on Deus as a rookie hunter trainee. Which was fine really since nothing could be done when one was up against a force of nature such as a hurricane of that scale, but his mood had quickly soured the moment he got the messages about first the division meetings that all hunters were expected to attend and then the limited portal access to off island missions only due to the instability of the Yggdrasil system.
Great. Just ******** great. So he was going to have to ******** sleep on the ******** floor like a ******** prisoner until they ******** resolved that so that he could go out there and buy himself a ******** bed.
Alright. So Hunter and Shiv had decided that they needed to fight something to get out of the pit and this meeting eh? Getting up from his mat, he cracked his knuckles and rolled his shoulders as he started towards the cages to pick out his opponent.

Stepping up to the hat when it was his turn to reach into it and pick his opponent, Yakov unfolded the piece of paper that was retrieved to find the word 'aberration' scribbled on it.
< What's an aberration supposed to be? >
James suddenly interjected from the corner of his mind that he usually resided in.
< Guess we're about to find out. >
Yakov responded dryly as he made his way to the middle of the pit and waited for the aberration to be released from its cage for the coming fight.
James wasn't making any attempt at all to hide his amusement or suppress his laughter at the humongous orange carrot creature that was released from its cage. Yakov took a deep breath and sighed.
< Apparently so. Yes. There are trainees here James. I'm sure that Hunter and Shiv needed to make sure that these creatures can be handled by them as well in order for this to be fair. >
He attempted to rationalise, easily stepping to the side to avoid the creature that was charging at him while contemplating if this fight was worth the effort of summoning his incubus partner James for.
< Ooooh... let me at it! It's been a while since we had carrot juice. Besides, I heard that it's supposed to be good for your complexion! >
There was no point in trying to convince James otherwise whenever the incubus got all excited over something like that so Yakov went along with the demon's intent by summoning the falchion to his hand.
The carrot creature charged again, its actions driven by primal instincts without any strategic thought behind any of it. Not that Yakov expected it to have any. It was probably a product of one of the Life hunters' lab experiments or a vegetable that was warped by the amount of fear present at the island's perimeters.
"Let's just get this ******** thing over and done with James."
Yakov growled, obviously far from excited at having to deal with this assignment before he could leave the meeting to spend his time on something that was far more productive.

< Ready whenever you are Chef Yakov. >
James laughed as Yakov charged towards the carrot aberration with his blade. It turned out to be a terribly mismatched fight in the end as Yakov wasted no time at all in hacking and cutting down the carrot aberration until nothing was left without so much as breaking a sweat during the entire process.
To his credit (or maybe discredit given how quickly and lacklustre the fight went), everything was done within a couple of minutes and not more. Perhaps they should have considered including something that was more of a challenge somewhat instead of something as squishy as this creature in the first place.

Another day another meeting. There were so many damn meetings nowadays, especially after that ******** hurricane that hit them out of the blue. What happened to the shields that were supposed to protect the damn place. But okay, okay, she wasn't going to blame this all on Moon. But damn, can't everyone just do their damn jobs? Which for her, meant killing things dead as a Sun hunter.
Or at least, killing the dummies in the training area dead. She would have liked to spar like the rest, but she always found herself blown out of the arena way too easily. Curse her short height and light weight.
But you know, that wasn't the be all end all of being a hunter. She quite liked her division lead; she too, agreed that what mattered was winning. Well-aimed crotch punches did as much damage as the idiots swinging around their giant axes and swords.
Now then, what did they have here...

2. Dramatic fight (2 toughness points)
Alright, alright, so this one wasn't as big and scary as the rest but it still towered over her because she was so damn short. Gzifa cursed under her breath as she took her spot in the pit, sneering back at the rest of the hunters who were watching and jeering. Just you watch what she could do to this this invisible horse, and think about what that meant for all you sorry asses.
<Ready for this?> Gzifa licked her lips and flipped the blades in her hands. Cassie wasn't too enthusiastic about the fight, but the cassowary monster was always ready to give a mauling. 3... 2... 1...
A shrill screech pierced through the air as Gzifa charged at the beast, her eyes ablaze with determination. A startled neigh sounded from the invisible horse as it tossed its legs into the air, as if to warn her away before things got serious. Oh, but she was looking for a fight here, and a fight she would get.
Her first strike wasn't the most glamourous or inspired, barely grazing the beast below its torso as it made its frantic attempt to escape.
“COME BACK HERE YOU!!” she yelled, giving chase and digging her blades into the horse's a**. Perhaps not the wisest of choices, and soon there was dust and mud being sprayed everywhere.
The small blades were not so great for dealing with a beast like this, but she'd prove that was not her only means of victory. The horse's mane and tail were torn at, sending the creature into a frenzied gallop around the arena until it eventually tripped and crumbled on the ground.

Yes. Thank you. She deserved applause for that one. The 42 minute long battle ended with the intermediate hunter emerging from the mud, flipping the rest of the unimpressed audience off as she climbed out of the pit. So what if she was caked in mud from head to toe-
Oh. Right. She didn't have any more extra clothes. Well. Whatever. She'd take a bath and do the laundry at the same time. And she wouldn't be the first to walk around naked along the hallways over here anyway.

Lyra was actually really excited about this meeting. She was newly an Intermediate ranked hunter (she didn't like the word trainee) and she'd just recently survived that horrid storm. She was rather impressed by it, and she was also impressed by the new pit. A great training course, to be sure!!
Eager as she was, once it was her turn to start, she didn't waste any time. "Let's see who I fight," she said as she reached into that hat.
"Oh," she said, her eyes growing wide.

Well. The Behemoth certainly WAS big. It was big and it was scaly, and it hissed and drooled a little. The thing towered over her as Lyra gulped as the fight began.
It wasn't that she was afraid, because she certainly wasn't. She knew she was a good fighter, but this thing was just.... so .... large. It could almost swallow her in one gulp. Even if it couldn't it felt like it could.
Twice she darted in, fast as she could to hit the beast - on blow landing on it's leg, the second on it's nose. It seemed the second hit did something to anger it as the beast bellowed, it's hot, stinky breath covering Lyra as a testament to it's rage. And then the beast coughed. Once, twice, three times. It hacked, and coughed and --
spilled the contents of it's stomach all over the floor of the pit in front of Lyra. The bile glowed a faint green, and some of it defiantly got on her clothes. Ew.
The beast swayed on it's feet, before upchucking again.
This...this wasn't how the fight was supposed to go. Lyra was sad.

Luckily, twice seemed to be it's limit. For after that, the huge creature took two steps back and then curled up and, apparently to sleep.
Lyra stood and watched it for a few minutes before (going around a smelly green liquid) getting close to the beast and poking it. It didn't budge. It....it was indeed asleep.
And no matter how much she poked it, it didn't wake up. Poor thing was probably ill. It needed to rest.
Lyra sighed, it was... probably a very boring exchange to watch, all together.
"I guess...I guess I'm done for the day."
She turned around and left the pit, stinky and disappointed.

Richard looked out into main body of the pit, pushing his glasses up on the bridge of his nose with one hand while the other rested on the hilt of his shortsword. Long fingers absently toyed with the cording wrapped around the sword's hilt as Richard watched the others go in and out of the fighting area. Soon, it would be his turn, and he wasn't sure he was terribly looking forward to it. He glanced around, noting that there wasn't really much in the way of cover. Without a shield, he was going to have to hope that he was either fast enough to keep from getting hit or that his opponent wasn't very strong.
He preferred the first, obviously.
::I mean, as long as you do what we've been practicing, you should be good, y'know.::
He gave a snort of amusement in return. ::Okay, you say that now, but if my opponent catches me, I'm probably gonna go down.:: It was then his turn, and he made his way towards the hat with the papers in it. He rifled his hand around in the papers and drew one without looking. Once he had it in front of him, he did glance down, and... it looked like he was going to be matched up against another trainee. He sighed both outwardly and mentally. They looked a little greener than he did, at least? As far as if he was going to be fast enough, though... that was certainly unsure.
He wasn't really worried about killing his opponent, here. He would just have to make sure he didn't get killed, but... Richard was fairly certain that wasn't going to happen. Another trainee was hardly as fearsome as some of the opponents he could have ended up with. He offered a wave that was, sadly, not returned.
He didn't ask the sword at his side if the presence inside was ready, because of course the answer was "yes".
Richard's Journal Division: Sun trainee Arcana: Wheel of Fortune Description: Richard is on the tall side and clearly not built for power, with long legs and long arms. He has dark olive skin, blue eyes, and long auburn hair that he keeps loosely braided. He wears black jeans that are neat and clean, but with enough room for a wide range of movement, and paired with a black and orange striped sweater. He does not seem to ever hold completely still.
