"I don't think I'll ever get what I fully want from Lawr if I went wanting a monogamous relationship. Between the fickleness and his wandering curiousity, any romance is always placed on a boat waiting for any passing storm to toss you overboad. It's very exhauating climbing back in over and over again. I feel like pieces of me break off each time because I hope for something Lawr can't give. I don't want to give up his company, but I know better now to take things as a guarentee. He will do whatever he wants based on whatever catches his attention. I can't teather my heart to that. I think it's been easier to accept that now that he has gotten married and returned to marriage after he was with me."
He had to smile at that ridiculous idea still. "Things got ugly over that. I got uglier over that."
He sipped his coffee again.
"I'll be his friend and watch him. He has some habits that need watching. I just need to figure out what I want now after all this time.. .. All the years. I don't know what is more tiring. Being with Lawr or figuring what I want without him."
He looked up from his mug. "When did you last have a vacation."

"Figuring out what you want is tough enough without being tired and things being complicated," Jordan said. He hesitated a moment and added, "Be careful." For all that he thought Melvin was better off out of the relationship, he could still sympathize with the pain of separation and the complex feelings that resulted from being torn loose from something you'd really wanted, even if that something wasn't good for you.
"Er," he said. "It's been a while." He couldn't think of when he'd last been off the island for no reason other than a vacation. He'd been out, of course, but he'd made his trips practical as well, getting supplies and news.

He wasn't sure what the warning was for, and wondered if Lawr would hurt anyone he tried to be with. Considering how Rep was, he wondered if this was Jordan's experience. "I will. I used to be very comfortable being by myself, and while I'm tired and would like to get back to the person I was, I do not think I will do well without company. It helps I'm in the house where I can hear people even if it's a weird situation. I get ..overwelmed when I was in my dorm alone."
Thinking about it, he tapped his fingers on the mug before reaching for a sandwhich. "Ever been in a mosh pit before? Anguish Echoes is playing next week and I was going to go."

"The empty room is still difficult sometimes," Jordan admitted. "But I remind myself that it's clean." It was about half a joke. He quirked a smile.
His stomach had calmed sufficiently to pick his own sandwich back up. "Never tried it," he said. "I've only been to a couple of concerts. Sounds like it could be fun. What kind of band is it? Metal, with that kind of name?" he guessed.

He had to smile at the joke. "Well if you want company at night, Mark seems to house several roaches so just need to stop tidying up and maybe leave some poptart and hot pocket wrappers around. Flush doen your dignity too."
"Yeah. I've seen them once before back when they were Blistered Arteries. I enjoyed them and heard they were doibg a gig outside of New Orleans. If anything we can leave later and head into the city. I find them refreshing. Plenty of ways to just let go, and being a hunter means no one can knock you over if things get pushy."
"What kind of music you like?"

"I think I'll pass. Mark can keep his little buddies." Jordan made a face.
"Yeah, I feel a lot more secure with the idea of a mosh pit with a shield," he laughed. "I'm usually more into folk and rock, but I'm not averse to other genres. Checking out New Orleans sounds like a nice way to pass some time, too."

"I had thoughts of surprising Mark by hosing him down but I think the funk holds him together and he'd dissolve. Probably permantely stain the ground too."
"Well if youbare game then next Friday it is. I'd like to get out and I haven't been to New Orleans before. Have you been to any concerts or shows before?"

"Hosing Mark down would require getting close to him. Unless you had a high pressure hose. Hm. Do roaches jump?"
"I'm game," he agreed. "I'll put my leave in for it. I've been to a couple of concerts when I was a teenager, but that feels like forever ago."

Melvin visibly shivered. "I hope not but knowing them, probably."
Terrible things tended to outdo themselves in being stubborn and terrifying.
"If you can't find anything to wear, you can borrow one of my shirts. No offense, but if you come into the show wearing anything other than a Metal T-shirt or something that looks like you killed a man to wear it, you are going to get hassled."

... Fear-enhanced roaches ... "A horrible thought has occurred to me, and I think I'm just going to stop thinking about this concept." Jordan shuddered slightly.
"Hm. I'd imagine a clubbing shirt would probably be along the lines of something that'd get me hassled," Jordan said, making the statement half a question. "I may have to borrow a shirt. I'd wash it afterward, of course."

"But you can borrow one of my shirts if you want to do that too. It's going to be very hot this time of year so dress light."

"True enough. Benefits of being what we are." Jordan considered the question for a moment, then shook his head. "Yeah, I think I'll borrow a shirt, not really looking for attention."
"The usual," and he shrugged, "same s**t, different day. Had a mildly interesting mission where we chased down a little flock of pixies the other day. I wouldn't have thought Ferros and I were the obvious choice for ridiculously tiny targets, but we did all right. How about you? Anything interesting, aside plans to go back to Atlantis?"

"Been hanging around towns. Popping a few shadows off in the old pool house and checking the condition. Full hunters have a pool, but now that we have young hunters, I kinda worry about them being on a island and maybe not having memories of being able to swim...........or even adults not knowing how to swim. Also just nice to have a place people can go to swim without worrying about getting eaten by a kraken."
He took off his glasses to set them on the table to give his eyes a break. "Not that I've gotten too far. It's just - nice to walk in towns and get some silence. Checking up on the greenhouse as usual. New season means new planting and checking on the watering system."
"Aside from that, just thinking about what to do with myself. Wanted to check into going artifact hunting sometime again. Used to go a lot before."
"So, how do you fight tiny....dots? Where were you to even fight specks?"

"There's been a few incoming trainees that didn't know how to swim, I know," Jordan said. "I helped Shu with the basics the time the cafeteria got turned into a pool. It'd be good for exercise and training, you're right."
"I've been thinking of fixing up a house, but I haven't found one I really like yet. The quiet's nice, but I'm not sure what I'd do with all the space and quiet to myself. There's downsides to living in the dorms, but there's always people around," he sighed.
"Kind of like using a flyswatter, except larger and more destructive," he laughed. "They'd made a nest in a deserted school and were luring local children, so they needed to go."
