ยค Surtr ยค ...For out of the ground we were taken... for the dust we are...
As she mentioned the scars Surtr chuckled softly. "Yes well she was a very......primal woman." He said with a rather devilish smirk. "It's lucky for me I have healing abilities or else I dare say I would not have survived the conception of our daughter." He said chuckling again a fonder smile crossing his lips. She had once again touched on it so he would happily divulge their source. Though a few were just from him being a smart a** most of them were from fits of passion and lust. A very odd or scary thing perhaps when one saw how animalistic the scars seemed, scratches and bite marks, primitive in nature and rough end to end. It looked more like he survived a bear attack rather than sharing a night with his beloved, though Surtr wouldn't change that in the slightest.
"My daughter is currently a professor." He said with a soft smile. "Effervescent, bubbly, and intelligent she is and was a handful. She is the light of my life and in all honesty one of the only reasons I remain in karst. If she was not there for me to protect I dare say I may have become a wanderer long ago." He said confessing that she was something that kept him grounded, tied to a single place. Surtr would just as quickly live a nomadic life traveling wherever the wind took him but such a lifestyle was not suitable for a young woman and especially one with her condition. "She's half elf actually. Lily is pretty much everything someone could ask for in daughter. Perhaps a bit too stubborn and a hopeless romantic. Always trying to set me up on dates or find me a suitable woman." He said rolling his eyes. "Though regardless of the headaches she is what is most precious to me." He said his words full of admiration and love. His voice was softer now as if he was mostly lost in thought dwelling on the wonderful memories he had with her and the numerous he was sure were to still come.
"My wife Androk, she was the fiercest elf you'd ever seen. Stronger than anyone I've ever met and coarse through and through. I got to know her over a few thousand years. I often times would tease her and jokingly make passes at her just because I knew it would get a rise out of her." He said with a soft chuckle. "Then one day I asked her assistance in cleaning out some skeletons from my past....Things got a bit heated and Lily was conceived." He said chuckling as if he had just remembered this all happened because of an accident. "Upon finding out she was pregnant she insisted she still be able to train the other royal guards and etcetera. So I went to the elf kingdom and personally watched over her to ensure she didn't do anything too brash to injure our child." He said with a smirk remember days of his whale of a wife beating up hordes of trainees and Surtr having to force her to take a break to prevent labor from setting in early.
"She had a beast within her. A rage that when unleashed granted her amazing strength and power but unfortunately the inability to discern friend from foe..." He said with a soft nod his eyes now trailing to the embers their gaze glossing over a bit it being obvious he was lost in thought. "Our daughter has a very rare disease. Her form is extremely frail and she uses her telepathy to support her but when she was younger she couldn't do this very well... My wife blamed herself and scoured the world looking for a cure..." He said sighing his eyes entranced by the dying coals unable to look away.
"She somehow entered this enraged state while Lilly was around and I wasn't strong enough to contain her..... I had to put my heart back in just to keep myself from fading...." He said now placing his hands over his chest reliving the moment and being brought back in time to when his life changed. "There are moments that define you, few and far in between but they are there. I had an instant to choose..... She struck Lilly and was moving to end it, I had to stop her. She can't control herself in that state so I made a choice." He said now clenching his fists as they moved back to his lap.
"She always joked that she would only die by my hand..... When that anger left her she smiled softly before caressing my cheek and then she was gone..." He said looking upon the coals for a bit longer before he blinked, then again, and again. He had broken free of whatever had hold of him and the somber look upon his face soon faded. "It has been Lilly and I ever since. She insists I need to find someone, but I continuously tell her a father only needs the love of his daughter." He said with a soft chuckle knowing full well that response never satisfied her. Realizing he may have over share he refocused on Vethra looking to her rather inquisitively now. "Was there something in particular you wished to know about them?" He asked wondering if there was anything he may have missed. He felt his tale was comprehensive but even great minds forgot important details from time to time.

Hands twiddled in her lap, an action she did often when interested in any sort of subject, something she would do out of conscious when learning. Her ears were perked, body leaning in as he seemed open, not quite what she was expecting. He seemed to want to relic in the story, despite how gut wrenching it was. She once again, could admire him in all his glory. Of course he had a wife, she could sense the charm, even in his old age. Her eyebrows arched at his comment, eyes wandering back to his body. Those scars he claimed to be by her, her cheeks flushed once more, a soft and slightly sly smile, a small chuckle as well for good measures.
Her attention drew, relaxing her rose cheeks. A sort of glow drew around Vethra at the mention of his daughter. Children, no mater what the size, where still children to her. The idea brought a pleasant feeling to her core.A professor? How lovely, the idea of seeing his daughter work, especially the way he spoke of her. Though every father would gloat about their daughters, after all... there daughters. Daughters where the light of every man, Vethra could attest to that. Her father, whom she loved dearly, treated her with such royalty it should be illegal. She was spoiled rotten yet remained humbled for fathers would spoil you rotten but teach you a lesson with each gift.
Vethra was enlightened, warmed in a way, that his wife had been an elf. Being of her own kind.... she had a sort of bias. Something she knew needed to be fixed, which with every adventure she was. An elf was his daughter as well.... Vethra offered a loving smile. She didn't wish to barge in, the way he spoke of his daughter. No one stops a man from talking about it, theyll find a way to loop it back to her, once again, Vethra knew all too well. She would laugh lightly at him, a soft nod. "A date would do anyone good." a small jab at the man as he continued his story.
A fierce elf? That often lead to a great tale. The fiercest beings were usually elves. Vethra believed it had to do with their height. We were either tall or short, no between. Tall lead to an elegant fierce that would strike fear into anyone, thus Vethra. And a short fierce, one that pretended until their power revealed and all hell broke loose. Her ears perked once more however, eager to hear, despite knowing the outcome. Falling for someone fierce only meant hell. A hell that was well worth it, whatever it outcome.
And now the saddening part. He didnt wish to look, instead tranced by the coals of the simmered fire. Perhaps he was reliving in his mind, one action at a time. Her hands that fiddled at her dress, cupped each other, her body remained still as he stated the choice that was made. It was an obvious one, everyone knew, however never an easy one. Vethra had the luxury of not know such pain, not knowing such a choice. With that luck came back luck, that her heart wept for those that have to experience it. It wept, oozed sympathy. Her eyes revealed it, as it usually did.
His story was done and his somber look turned, practically in an instant. Vethra gave a small frown. Curious to why? Even she knew not. The beauty would inhale, eyes finally diverting and looking toward the sky. A few seconds went by and an exhale back down to the earth. "I would love to meet your daughter. Hearing all your dirty little secrets." Vethra locked eyes with the man, a smirk drew against her face. Once she got what she needed, she offered a soft, gentle smile. "I am sorry for your loss."

ยค Surtr ยค ...For out of the ground we were taken... for the dust we are...
She mentioned a date and he knew she would get in that little jab. Why wouldn't she? Who wouldn't want to tease the archmage about spending time with a woman? It was too tempting a fruit, to low hanging to pass by. He shook his head softly at her remark. "I do not need anymore love." He said implying that his heart was full. While the statement was true the emotions that flooded it were never warm and fuzzy like one would expect. They were cold and dry, boring deep within him and settling down to fester and cause pain whenever possible. As they did not, though it had faded to a dull ache long ago. Manageable to be sure and something that he had come to live with. It plagued him day in and day out and sometimes his dreams even decided to torture him but it was his burden to bare. He had made his choice and he had to live with it. The pain he felt was earned and deserved.
As she mentioned wishing to meet his daughter he smirked softly. "I'm sure you could. She loves meeting new people, she is a very inquisitive creature though. So she may assault you with questions. She rarely leaves the city so any who come from a far she had to know every little detail. Especially someone whom she shares blood with." Surtr said implying that not many elves came to the city and as such his daughter sought out any few that managed to enter within Karsts walls.
"I'm sure she would spill every little secret she could, all the while trying to entice you to pursue me..... Pay the last bit no mind she's incorrigible when it comes to that." He said with a sigh it being obvious he just wished his daughter to leave the subject alone. One of Surtrs greatest fear had come to reality, he had out lived his love and atop that he was the one who was forced to end her. What husband wished to outlive his wife? The only worse punishment he could fathom was losing his daughter. Something he vowed he would never see. The main reason why he moved Karst and chose such a fortified location.
She apologized for his loss, a predictable and inevitable response. One he had heard a thousand times. Still he appreciated the courtesy and the tone she conveyed was true as he would have expected. "Thank you...." Was all he said as he laid back against a very conveniently shaped rock a sigh slipping through his lips trying to force what had surface back to the depths of himself. It was good to talk about it, to remind himself of what he had done. Though he never had an easy time ridding himself of the pain that inevitably gnawed at him whenever the memories came to the forefront of his mind. Each time the wounds would close something happened to reopened them and they would always bleed more than he wished. Despite all his rationality, all the logic and intelligence he possessed. He was pained like all the rest when thinking of the woman he lost.

Compassion hurts. When you feel connected to everything, you also feel responsible for everything. And you cannot turn away. Your destiny is bound with the destinies of others. You must either learn to carry the Universe or be crushed by it. You must grow strong enough to love the world, yet empty enough to sit down at the same table with its worst horrors. Vethra gave a light sigh "As the body craves oxygen, the soul craves love." voice feathering off, knowing it best to end that part of the conversation.
Her body that was still from before now began to fiddle once again, a smile against her rose cheeks. "I would be flattered to teach her our ways. No matter where you are born or how, you are always an elf at heart. We are a fleeting breed, however a phenomenal one." Vethra boasted, elvish culture and lore were the best sort of stories, as a biased elf would say. She had not been with her own kind in some time, her heart had yearned for such an interaction. Their own language, own customs, one that none could recreate. Her hand reached up to swat at his last comment toward his daughter "I do not chase something I cannot acquire." Vethra stated, setting the boundary he had wished for. A soft smile across her face "No worries there, despite how enticing you might present." a scrunch of the nose and a light hearted laugh.
As he sighed, laying back against a rock, Vethra retreated. She stood for a moment, gathering her staff before enchanting the radius around each other, casting a ward. Once finished, she plopped down closer to the fire, slithering her body downward as she gathered her top closer to her body, eyes had grown heavy. "Mala suledin nadas." elvish spilled out against her quite lips before drifting out into a slumber.

She spoke and then mentioned not pursuing something she couldn't have he chuckled soft at her words and nodded. "You would be sorely disappointed anyway. Far better served pursuing someone better than myself." He said smirking softly as he watched her lay out and prepare to drift off. As she wished him good night her nodded and sighed as she soon drifted off.
He sat against the rock comfortable and vigilant eyeing everything as he waited. He would not let his guard down, not while she was here. He couldn't possibly, it could endanger her. That's not something he could live with. So he remained on guard all through the night.
As day broken and the world came back into view he rose stretching and yawning a bit obviously fatigued from the lack of sleep from the night. It mattered not though no one had attacked and Vethra was safe so that was all that mattered. Their journey should come to a close today, one final push and they should be able to find what they seek and then return home. It wouldn't be too difficult of a task he surmised. The fountain was rather close to the center but there was a a crypt beneath the towns religious building. It was almost certainly where the source of this evil was and in turn the object Surtr sought.
"Rise and shine sleeping beauty." He said playfully referencing a popular childrens story. When she roused from her sleep she would find Surtr standing a few feet away faced towards the center of the city looking off intently towards his target. It was there he could feel it, the ruins were still silent far too quiet for his taste and he hoped together they would be able to rid this place of whatever sickness lay upon it.

The night slipped on and Vethra's mind slipped into a happy bliss. Her dreams often of simple things that people would take for granted. She today was having a dream of her in the outskirts of her village, she was younger there, without her tattoos. She frolicked against the grass, clutching against herbs her father had taught her to pick. Her smile was radiant as always, more innocent for obvious reasons. She would reach down, giggling with glee. Her father followed short, his stride slow and soft, hands behind his back. His face was a softness full of love towards his daughter. He would smile at her movements, the way she would turn toward him showing off her wonders that she had picked, ever proud to have been taught such things. The twoul would sit, her in his lap, reviewing all the herbs and leaves she had picked. He would offer small remedies, little tricks. She would lap it all up, eager was her middle name. The two would sit together for hours, discussing and enjoying each others company.
And then day broke, the world opened and awake. Vethra remained silent and still for a moment more. His playful voice would awake Vethra. Her eyes slowly opening as her body begun to pull upwards, a small confused look to her. The sky was glowing, awaiting for the two to part from a lovely place and venture back to their task. She would let out a light moan before setting herself all the way up, getting a sip of water. It was obvious she was not a morning person. The elf attempted to smile, offer a morning joke, but none could pass her lips. Remaining silent she gathered some food and started, out of habit, to make a small meal for the two. When done, her bare feet shuffled over to Surtr, offering him inside the cups the two carried, a warm scrambled egg mixture. She would raise a finger, spritz of magic pulsed out of her finger.
The two would eat, clean, and gather their belongings. She would change back into her gown as of yesterday, pulling back her hair, and wore a scarf against her face. She would gather her staff and finally speak, perhaps finally awake now "Any nightmares in the night that attempted to wake this beauty?" Her voice spoke softly at first before it gained its strength, Vethra offered a small smile and a soft chuckle.

...For out of the ground we were taken... for the dust we are...
As she awoke and collected her things. He prepared to set off until she began making breakfast. He stifled a chuckle preventing himself from giving way just how humorous the action was. While it was a kind gesture the two would be entering the most perilous part of their journey soon enough and a quick breakfast was perhaps not the most advised move. He also noted just how much she seemed to despise the morning it was a very cute little peccadillo and Surtr would not soon forget it. If it wouldn't be weird he'd likely intentionally wake her up early just to mess with her now. A very wicked thing indeed but Surtr couldn't really help himself.
She handed him the breakfast and he quickly scarfed it down not wasting any time in doing so. He had brought nothing with him so he aided Vethra in packing instead. Once she had all her things together the two continued their walk toward the center of the city. "Thankfully no. Either whatever haunts this place doesn't like to come out at night or it is curious about our presence." He said glancing back with a soft reassuring smile as they two continued their trek.
After around thirty minutes of meandering about they came to the center plaza. Walking through the ruins of the marketplace Surtr stopped and tilted his head as he saw a large gaping hole in the center. It was obvious this was the crypts below the city but to see such an entrance was quite curious. "Hmmmm....." He murmured before cupping his palms and blowing into them. As he did a little ball of fire formed and sat burning brightly in his grasp. He chuckled softly before blowing at it and sending it down into the abyss. It lit the way showing the drop to only be about twenty meters before the ground. He scooped Vethra up gently and opened his wings as the duo glided down into the belly of the beast. Once landing he set he down upon the wet floor as the subtly smell of death found its way to him. "Seems like we're closing in...." He said with a very disgruntled huff obviously not too keen on the pungent odor.
A soft and subtle hiss could be heard off in the distance and Surtr glanced to Vethra before beginning to slowly walk in that direction the little orb of fire following him. "So Vethra..... Do you possess any particular combat proficiencies?" He inquired being sure to know any hidden talents before they met whatever ruled over this accursed place.

She offered a smile to his answer. Her eyes would drift to the surroundings. Vethra had placed a barrier at night, preventing the basic attacks, creating a general barrier. It was nothing special and honestly wouldn't keep the two 100% safe. It would have provided them a moment to either escape or prepare to fight. However nothing had happened which offered the two peace, yet not that great of a feeling. Whatever was in the night either feared the two, was curious about the two, or perhaps simply gave no shits about them. A small nod at the thought of Surtrs words before the two ventured off.
She wasn't able to to tell time, however the feeling of some time passed as the two gained entry into the city once more. The two came to the center plaza, where yesterday they had quite the experience here. Vethra eyed the gaping hole from a distance, then glanced Surtrs expressions on the matter. As he pondered at the thought, Vethra dared to inch closer and eye what he was seeing exactly. She wasn't afraid of heights but the idea of possibly dropping down nearly any depth seemed not quite inviting. She'd feel a sudden warmth behind her, noticing a small ball of fire forming in the mans hand. Her head tilted slightly, eyeing the cute little thing. He dropped it into the hole, her eyes following it. Before she had any ideas, Surter cupped Vethra in a gentle manner, causing a small gasp from her. He could have asked!
The two flew down into a quite wretched, foul smelling place. Vethra scrunched her nose immediately as the two tapped against the wet ground. Thank god she bore shoes today, usually she sported bare feet, or simple fabrics around them. Her hand brought to her nose and mouth, attempting to seal away the smell, but to no success. Vethra frowned as the two lead themselves further into the cave like structure. Her hand remained clasped against her nose and mouth, her gown's sleeve attempting to do what her hands could not. Vethra's ears picked up on a sound further down the cave, offering an odd sensation to her ears. He questioned her ability in combat, something that did not comfort her in any means. Vethra shook her head, hair flinging out of her soft scarf that hung loosely against her head. "I am a women of peace.... I heal not hurt." She spoke quietly, her voice echoing in the chambers "On rare occasions I hurt, but extremely rare. I lack the ability to protect via combat. I make it up with my potions and such." Vethra spoke, eyes moving to the cute orb that he had created. "I suppose I know a few tricks of defending and protecting....though I hope not necessary." She offered a small sigh, discreetly disappointed in herself.

"I thought as much. Well I would imagine you will have quite a lot to heal when this ends....." He said with a soft smirk looking back to her. "I hope it isn't necessary either but some defensive actions may be required just so you are aware." He whispered as he suddenly froze in place. His bare foot had stepped upon something that was not earth. He looked down and saw bone, a femur to be precise. As the little floating orb of fire moved down his gaze narrowed a sigh slipped through his lips a bit frustrated at what he saw. Before him lay a sea of bones. Skeletal remains picked clean by whatever it was that haunted this place. There were what looked liked hundreds of thousands of bones with could only mean thousands of dead creatures that had fallen to whatever aberration lay in front of them. "Tread lightly.... We don't wish to make whatever it is aware..." He whispered as the little orb of fire dulled to almost going out. It moved lower so that it now illuminated what lay before them upon the ground allowing the two to move stealthily. This was done to minimize their presence and maximize their stealth. After about five more minutes. Surtr stopped in his tracks once more and looked back to Vethra. "We're here...." He said softy turning back to look upon her. The air had changed, gotten a bit cooler and he could feel a subtly breeze. It meant wherever they were about to enter would open up and with it would likely hold the one they sought. After a soft smile to comfort her he turned back to the abyss before him flicked his fingers towards it. The little orb rocketed out and after it reached the open mouth it burst into a much brighter version and ignited the whole cavern. He could see a lone figure standing in the center holding a staff. Surtr strode into the cavern eying it closely as he watched it closely. "I take it this is all your work...." He said raising his arms and opening his palms upward gesturing to all the bones about. Within a few moments a cruel and dark giggle slipped through the strangers lips and she finally came into view. A woman hooded and pale in complexion with hair black as pitch and eyes a ghostly white. Her lips curled in a very cruel way as she eyed the two and she smirked as she raised her staff of bone and tilted towards the two as a familiar black miasma began to flow out of the mouth and down upon the sea of bones. "s**t..." Slipped through Surtrs lips as the small orb of fire floating above the two grew in size to about 8 feet in diameter glowing so brightly it felt like the sun. "Cute trick..." The female taunts as around 15 of those skeletons formed and rose engulfed in the black goop rising in an unnatural way and beginning to walk towards Surtr and Vethra. "Here.....we....go" He said clapping his hands together and holding them so as two streams of fire burst from the miniature sun and forming the shape of snakes as their mouths opening as the two met engulfing the small army forming a little whirlwind of fire attempting to burn them down before they could even rise. The orange fire turned to a bright blue as burned hotter than it did before trying to see just how hot he had to go. As he focused on this black tendrils began to creep their way out aiming to encircle Surtr and hit him from all sides. They were moving slow and beneath the bones aiming to go unnoticed and end this battle with a very crafty sneak attack. ...and to the dust we shall return...

๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฑ๐ป๐ชxx ๐๐ฝ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ป๐ช๐ท๐ท๐ฒ
Vethra mumbled something under her breath, however with her hand over her mouth along with her gown trying to act as some sort of shield from the immense disgusting smell that lingered in the air. Fighting wasn't her thing, such a beautiful creature dare play such an act? No. Her hands were meant to heal and love, not hate and hurt. She admired anyone that could hurt another and still sleep at night, however that was not her life. She wasn't too comfortable with the idea of others fighting, protecting her that is. However when you lack the capability in a close combat sort of way, then someone risking their life to save yours and theirs, is admirable and ever thankful. In the end, Surtr would have to protect for the two. She would have to thank him later for that.
Defending is something she could offer him as he fought for the two. He froze before her as his foot pressed gently against something. It was a soft crunch, sending a small chill down her spine. Vethra glanced down at the mans bare foot, noticing the bare bone that dared to crack. The bone was thick and pure bone, stripped of muscle. With one, there will be many. Her eyes followed along and soon her eyes met with a sea of bones before them. Just as he did, she let out a sign. Of course it had to be bones. Nothing good comes with just sole skeletons around, without a proper burial. Or to make it worse, dug out of their graves. A small gulp was given as her eyes locked on the sheer massive amount of skeletons that lay on top of each other.
Her eyes remained lock against the mass profile of bones, a soft nod "Elves are known for their quite feet." She said attempting to relief the stress that had begun to build up against her chest. Her heart skipped, beating feverishly against her wrapped chest. Her feet a near wisp against the ground. The orb of Surter dulled, lowering to the ground allowing the two to stealthy their way over the bones. He lead, and soon the man turned back to Vethra, an attempted reassuring smile. Her bright eyes twinkled, showing nothing but fear. Despite it all, Vethra wouldn't dare change the fate the two seemed to be in. Her fear excited something inside, allowing herself to lean in amazement that was her and their adventures. The air kissed against Vethras cheeks, cooling her to her core. Her hand clasped against her mouth further for a moment for she knew the smell would soon penetrate her nose and mouth.
Her eyes would follow his movements, an orb small and tiny soon burned bright as the sun. It ignited the whole cavern, allowing the appearance of a lone figure in the center, a staff she held. This was going to be interesting. Vethra would force herself to lower her hand, the smell penetrating to her core. She attempted to hide the disgust in her face, however lying wasnt her strong suit. Her body remained behind, not exactly attempting to hide, however she naturally hid. As Surtr stepped toward the women, Vethra would grab gently her staff and bring it forth, eyes fixed against Surtr and the women in front of him. He enticed the women, a small smirk before a wave of the same death like tar spilled out. s**t was right.
As she taunted, the skeletons rose in a way extremely unnatural. They were slow moving, giving Surtr enough time to attack. Vethra stood at the ready, watching the whole surrounding, not simply Surtr. She watched as the women remained still, a smirk plastered against her face. There was something else planned. Vethra's eyes continued to roam and study the surrounding as blue fire pressed against the skeletons. It burned the air, being trapped in a cavern and using fire techniques would limit oxygen, especially with the use of massive fire and long exposure down here. It was then that Vethra noticed the ever subtle movement against the ground. It took her a moment, wishing to make sure completely as the movement was ever to subtle. But even if her eyes deceived her, a barrier wouldn't hurt anyone. So with that idea in motion, Vethera stomped her staff against the ground, ancient language spread across the bones in a magical ice before raising upwards and around Surter, creating a barrier for him.
