Her head tilted slightly as the nymph spoke. She could fix it? Really? But then Junior was taking off. With a bit of a nod, the naiad darted after him and past the male who was just arriving to their group.
Down the path, up the tree, she burst into the house a few moments after Junior. "The Water wheel! Its the wheel!" She breathlessly answered her mother in law.
Everything was starting to pull together nicely as he settled Buddy next to his brother. "Wait, no water? Koit is Siofra doing it-" CRASH! The door flung open and his head snapped to the side to see his look-a-like son barge in. His name sprung up, but before he uttered it Junior was yelling. Emergency? Where? He straightened up from the babies just as Nereus popped into view. Such a tiny thing in comparison to his bear of a pae. "The water wheel? Goddess, Starry!" His gaze flicked over to the side where Siofra and Koit were. "Koit, Siofra, Sol, finish with the babes here. Then decide on a babysitter and the other two meet us at the wheel." He didn't have time to play 'who was babysitter last', he had to move. Without anything further, he exited the play pen to head out full speed.
Soliel stifled a giggle at Koits teasing and turned her attention back to the terrible two toddlers. "Alright, let me get Buddy's bottle, then I'll bring your sisters in..." The demon jumped a foot in the air at the sudden loud banging. Junior? Her eyes widened as they flicked from her parents to her siblings and back. Oh no, not the wheel!

His moment of simple, morning triumph was lost as the door to the house slammed open. Koit's expression all but vanished as everything seemed to hit the proverbial fan all at once. Blinking, dumbfounded, his eyes slowly moved as they tracked first Junior, then Nereus (entering), and then his adoptive father (leaving). It seemed to happen so fast he could hardly process anything happening at all.
What in the world...
"Uhh...."
Mouth ajar, he looked over at Siofra with clear confusion.
"What about the water wheel?"

A little voice giggled again. "Pippopotomooses can lift things," it squeaked from behind Alma. The bushes again rustled a little. Sneaky voice was being awfully sneaky.

Brief moments of pride stilled the turning wheels in the builder's head. All that was left was for everyone to hop to and get the tasks done. This waterwheel was going to be bigger and better than ever!
Huh? A voice offering to help? Turning around in air to face her new friend, Alma saw nothing but bushes rustling. "Are you shy? Don't be, I am Alma nice to meet you Pippopotomooses! Can I call you Pippop?" That name was a mouthful and on a job site shorter the better. Worked for her and Chal all the time.
Back to work, "Well, I am thrilled for the help! I need the wheel lifted and set back in place so I can secure it. Please." See, slow down enough and manners can catch even this nymph.

Junior registered that Nereus was right behind him, explaining his panic. He shot her a thankful smile, kissing her cheek as he turned on heel to follow his father out of the door and to the water wheel. It would only take a few powerful strides to overtake his father, at least on foot. He hesitated in the motion, conserving what strength he could for helping to move the wheel wherever he needed to. There was no way he could do it himself.
"That's the visiting trader" He pointed out, not thinking to be confusing at her presence at the mill. Or who she seemed to be talking to.
The wheel? Star blinked in shock for a moment before springing into action. Dame had issued the marching orders, that was perfect. The starred demon waited for her daughter in law to exit, following the other three to the wheel.
There was a young girl standing up there, staring at the wheel. Or, where the wheel would have been on any other day. Junior's horrible introduction sounded, and she had a vague idea of who this was. Zofie was supposed to be visiting today, she must have sent someone else. "Welcome to Star Grove, we're sorry you've been dragged into this." Star offered an apologetic smile to Alma, only to start looking around for whoever Alma was talking to very briefly. Her attention was back on the broken wheel laying in the river.
Siofra groaned, "The wheel is broken and we're stuck with babysitting duty! How is that even okay?' She whined, thinking quick. "Nose goes!" Siofra put her forefinger to her nose, calling dibs on not doing babysitting duty. She was sure Lelly and Elias, and Remy could help out at the wheel. Not just sure, absolutely positive of it. Koit could stay here and wake up with the babies. Right?

In an uncharacteristically striking moment of clarity, brought upon by the voiced challenge, the demon's hand rushed to touch the tip of his nose with surprising speed. It wasn't the first time such a challenge had been held, and given his movements, he was probably reacting out of reflex rather than any conscious movement. Blinking, he offered a smirk before looking to the last to react: his sister, Soliel. Without moving his hand or changing his expression, his eyes seemed to acquire a new light as he quietly, yet confidently, offered his serious condolences.
"We both know this is for the best."
Cackling loudly, hand still in place, he quickly turned to follow after Siofra before Soliel could react, calling out as he did so with a single hand raised:
"I'll send Remy your way to help if he happens to show up ~<3"
Nice idea.
By the time he arrived at the wheel, most of the sleep was gone from his eyes, yet he clearly was puzzled about the crowd and about what was going on. And about what he should do. So he did nothing, blinking and quietly watching the spectacle from nearby the bushes.

Starry's voice pulled Alma from respectfully waiting for the response from the bush. Whipping around in midair, the Nymph exclaimed in an action that mimicked one overly energetic happy starfish. "I love building, happy to help!" Twitching of her legs gave the impression she'd be bouncing on the balls of her feet if she weren't airborne.
Placing her hands on her hips she repeated the job site jobs, "I need help from the village. I need strong backs to lift the wheel back into place, Pippopotomooses offered to help." Her hand gestured to the occasionally shaking bush. It hadn't given permission for the nickname so full name was used. Alma's expression indicated displeasure at this.
Right that was task one, "Everyone not helping with the wheel needs to bring me any rock or stone they can find, the closer it is to this the better." Her hands made that same 2x2 pantomime
Happily the best part came as she explained, "I can brick around the wheel on this side of the water then build a counter on the other side of the water to attach so it won't come off again!" Well, not without her help or a really determined hammer. Implications went over her hair. Now she brought her fists up to her chin and looked at Starry proudly, "I'll build the counter as a big tall circle so it doubles as storage!" Decoration of utter pride followed a bow.

Living on the edge of town the commotion hadn't quite reached the Bel and her two kid's attention. Her brother was getting ready to do his errand running, and her mom was finishing the dishes in the waterbasin. Skylie had been shooed to go play so with cinnamon wrapped in her arms (facing away with her forepaws above Skylie's arms and her hindpaws dangling) the child skipped towards the center of the village blowing her bubbles as usual. The commotion at the water wheel place drew her attention and soon she was wiggling through adult legs asking anyone who would listen what what going on. Darius had been about to head to start his own daily routine when he noticed the crowd at the waterwheel, "Well that's unusual" he told himself before changing directions and approaching the crowd looking towards the wheel a look of concern crossing his face when he realized something did not look right. "Hey guys" he greeted the pae there only partly catching what starry had said "Need me to do anything specific?" he asked

A shrill fit of laughter filled the air. "Noooo, lady!!! I'm not a pippopotomoose! They're grey and big and live in the water! I don't live in the water." The little voice broke into another fit of giggles. "Pippopotomooses are not me!" The bushes shook in Darius' direction. "Some snacks would be nice!"

Oh, that was embarrassing! Rubbing the back of her head the nymph spoke, "Oh, I am sorry. What is your name?" The voice of a male came from somewhere, but was ignored. Repeating herself existed on a timer that started again.
Rather, she looked down to the water trying to see if there was anything big and gray as described. "Are there pippopotomoose here?" Maybe the laughing bush was able to control them somehow?

So there were children running and talking bushes and some nymph barking out orders and whatever a pippopotomoose was.
Perhaps he was still sleepy after all.
Reaching up to aggressively pinch his own cheek, the boy furrowed his brow at the pain that clearly indicated that he was, in fact, awake fully. Not that it eased his confusion in the least. From what he could see, for some reason the water wheel was broke. That was clearly a problem and explained his older brother's outburst this morning. But that was beside the point.
More importantly...
Why. Was. Nobody. Else. Concerned. About. A. Talking. Bush.
There was clearly something wrong about that; plants don't talk! Or make any noise for that matter, except maybe when the wind rustled them or something. But not real words. Or giggling. Jingling? Perhaps it was jingling?
No. It. Was. Not. It. Jingling. It. Was. Giggling.
Eyeing the bush in question semi-suspiciously, he quietly moved over (surely a failed attempt at being stealthy), hesitating for just a few moments before he moved forward abruptly to brush aside the vegetative cover and try to see what lay below with a notable. "Aha!Shicala Since he's interacting with the bush that called out to Darius EvilSilverDragon Since he's interacting with the bush she's been talking with

The bush shook furiously as its inhabitant scuttled deeper into the foliage. A piercing shriek sounded through the village. "Straaaaaaaaanger Daaaaaaaanger!!! STRANGER DANGER!!!! HELP!!!! Lady! Lady!!! HELP There's a stranger trying to bad touch!!!" The bush continued to thrash about, showing a hint of glitter here and there. The tiny voice continued to wail.

Blue eyes opened wide for a split second before shutting tight as hands went up to cover her ears. There was a stillness as the feeling of ice gripped her heart before propelling the nymph forward. Her body darted at full speed to throw herself between the giggle bush and winged eel thing? There was no direct attempt to hit the male but she didn't try to dodge him either in haste to answer the call for help.
Blinking at that point her brain caught up with her actions. As they raced to make her aware of what she had done, Alma could only look confused as things sunk in. "Please back up you are distressing Pip!" Oh that wasn't the giggle bush's name, probably, but it came out as Alma worked on looking more meaningfully protective then throw yourself blindly at a stranger.

Chal had hung back beside Alma, now realizing that something was broken and that this was quite devastating for his extended family's village. He could see the gears working in Alma's brain and knew he just needed to let her do her thing and help out where he could. In truth, he wasn't entirely sure how this thing was supposed to look and work in the first place, it wasn't like putting together a simple house. "How did the wheel get up there in the first place..." Chal mused out loud. He looked at the two mules that were pulling their trade cart. "We could hitch the mules and have them pull the wheel out... we would need a bigger team though..." The wheel in the water was much bigger than a trade cart. He hadn't noticed that Alma had been talking to a bush, she had been throwing commands out to everyone after-all, and this was Alma. He really should go look for rocks for her, but he wasn't so familiar with his surroundings and was probably of better use elsewhere. He didn't notice the bush at all until it began shrieking. Chal jumped aside, covering his ears and ducking. He reached his arm out to grab Alma, wanting to protect her, but she had darted away, putting herself between the bush and the hybrid. He had clearly missed something important. "What was that?" Chal asked, pulling back his hands and standing back up, ringing sounds filled his ears.

Koit's innocent pout when he was unable to find whatever was in the bush quickly turned into a pained grimace as it started to whine in an unbearably high pitch. He instinctively moved backwards and let go of the leaves, his hands reaching instead to cover his ears; a lucky move as it kept him just out of the path of Alma.
He blinked, making eye contact with the nymph before looking between her and the bush repeatedly.
"Pip...?!"
Again he blinked and looked between the two of them, brows furrowing in confusion.
"That's a bush. Bushes don't talk..."
He looked behind him at the crowd as he pointed at the bush, his voice raising just loud enough for others to hear.
"Why is there a talking bush?! Doesn't anypae else think that's weird?! Anypae?!"
