(If you would like to. I work a lot too so I understand if you go a while without responding)

"Well, it's more like they don't grow them from the ground.. well, except for these plants," He gently lifted a half-ripened strawberry in his hand, then let it dangle again. They shortly reached the end of the battlefield and towards a grassy field, where some goats were grazing. "They reproduce by doing this act... I think the humans call it 'breeding', and then a smaller one will grow inside one of them and emerge some time later. Like that one," he gestured his hand for Hawk to stop a short distance away from the animals, and pointed to a small, young goat and its mother among the herd. If the animals noticed the gems, they didn't seem to mind their presence.

((Alright, I'll notify if I notice I'm too busy/or going to be too busy))

Seeing that the quartz did not mind touching the red plant, Hawk gingerly poked it. Has weird pattern of small growths. Otherwise, mostly smooth. After reaching the field, Hawk remained slightly behind the quartz and observed the creatures, half amazed and half confused. There were many different colors of them -brown, white, black, mixtures- and each was unique. "What are their activities? Who is the leader? What strategies do they take against intruders?" They cannot just 'breed' and consume the green "flora" all day. Hawk noticed the small one was prancing about excitedly. It is amusing but also an inefficient allocation of energy.

(Works for me~)

"Well, usually the one who doesn't grow the young--a male--will lead the others, which are the females who grow them," Clear explained, "admittedly, I don't watch these too much, but as far as I know, they enjoy playing, like that one," he pointed to the one Hawk was watching, "and prancing about. As for threats, I've noticed they use the bony appendages," he gestured to the one who appeared to be male, which had a pair of sharp, pointy, long horns atop his head, "to attack the intruders, or they simply run away until their attacker is too exhausted to keep up." He looked at Hawk, trying to remember how foreign it was for him when he was first learning about Earth. He was sure it had to be equally, if not more confusing for her, especially since she wasn't on Earth because she liked the planet.

Hawk frowned. "Male? Female? Their functions differ physically- like quartz and pearl? Or is this a rank of some sort -like soldier and accessory?" She remained lost in thought until the word "threat" appeared in the conversation. Looking up, Hawk followed the gesture and observed the "bony appendages" while listening to the quartz's explanation. "How rudimentary," murmured Hawk's Eye. Could the materials be useful for Homeworld? They are all...organic. She mentally added this as a list to consult with the thinkers or, if important enough, her Diamond. Noticing the quartz's gaze, she initiated a question, "Do all the creatures use 'bony appendages' as methods of defense? Or are there more...sophisticated means?"

"Their genders, which is what the 'male' and 'female' categories are called, alters the role they play in reproduction and often their rank among others of their species, yes," Clear nodded, "Those appendages, called horns, by the way, are also used for attracting suitable partners. As far as I know, it's their only means of defense beyond running away." He watched as the big, male leader looked towards them, but then proceeded to graze some more.

Clear smiled, "The humans, and most organic creatures on this planet, have these 'male' and 'female' variations of themselves, too, as opposed to us gems appearing what they perceive to be 'female' almost exclusively. I changed the pronoun I used to match their male one, personally. It makes me feel less like Homeworld's mold."

"So can anything alternate between genders? Or is this similar to Homeworld, where those of a certain category remain so?" There were too many questions Hawk wanted to ask -like where the defects go? Or do the horn lengths signify a rank within the gender categories? Everything was confusing. She pursed her lips. "Why are their shapes so different? Are they not the same kind? Or do they grow into the same shape like the biggest goat there?" She nodded at the large, male goat and then noticed a shriveled looking one with a horn broken off. She pointed at it and asked Clear Quartz, "Will that one be exiled or shattered?" The goat looked up and bleated, and in response, Hawk tensed until it continued its mindless grazing.
She frowned when Clear explained her change to a male pronoun. "What are the benefits of changing? Does "female" make you feel inferior? Does it matter what pronoun you use? They are...just words, are they not?"

"Well, some humans are born with something they call 'gender dysphoria', which means they have an innate desire to be the opposite gender instead. They aren't naturally supposed to change between the two, but through their technological advances, they can," Clear explained, then watched as she pointed to the older one, "actually, that one is simply accepted as part of the herd. He has earned his rank among them, as opposed to being assigned a rank upon being born. Another fascinating thing about them is their horns won't grow in a set way, they can grow any number of ways based on environmental or genetic factors. In fact, that's the case with most organic life forms on this planet; they are all the same species, but they look different due to all types of varying factors, which cause variations in their horns, the colours of their fur, and other things. It's like... when two different gems fuse to create a new type of gem, only the two gems who existed before don't disappear, and then that fusion goes on to create another fusion with the same concept, and the cycle goes on."

He looked at her, "well, besides being more of an individual compared to other gems, it doesn't change much of anything beyond my appearance. It's not that being female makes me feel inferior, but rather that I prefer to be something else... if that makes sense." He wasn't really sure how to explain it, "but the pronoun I use now is 'he' and 'him'."
