Why did you choose this name: I've chosen the name not because of it’s core meaning but because it’s the name of a garden in Cornwall, ‘Lost Gardens of Heligan’ and in the garden are two sculptures of a giants head and ’the mud maid’. The female foal looks like she has leaves for hair like Nevena and it reminds me of the sculptures. Temper: Symbiotic
Personality: As a foal Heligan is a little closer and more akin to her Mommy learning about the natural world about her, she doesn’t find much of an interest in learning about others stories like her Mama. Much to her Mommy’s disapproval she also spends time with Judah learning about his interest in toxic and poisonous plants. Before anything shady happens she also crosses the paths of my stallion Herne. Herne doesn’t encourage or actively teaches her, neither would he push her away, she is a free creature of nature and he allows her to be wild, like he does will all things. She learns a lot from Herne, bolstering what Nevena taught her from a young age. As an adult she goes her own way, with a wealth of knowledge from others, she then grows and develops her version of how to live kindred to mother nature.
Heligan has been referred to as shy and illusive, sometimes evasive or distant however this is not because she shuns the contact of others but she simply enjoys the peace of the wild and remote places of the wilderness. If you attempt to enter a general conversation with her, her attention will deviate abruptly to the point you could still be talking to her when she physically turns away and walks off without a single word and disappears into the undergrowth never to return. However enter into a conversation with her about the environment, plants, nature or any such subject and she’ll talk to you for hours, maybe not always in speech but you'll have her attention and if you interest her enough she’ll share a few of her discovered secrets with you, whether those be facts or sights, places she’ll guide you to whilst conversing with her. In the spring glimpses of his cloak may be caught as he walks the woods encouraging growth, weeding out saplings not far enough away from their parent trees, clearing the underground to allow the desired saplings to grow strong and true.
In summer he is rarely seen, he is at peace these months as everything is bountiful and he allows nature to take it’s course, he feeds on the forests bounties and watches as the forests wildlife thrive.

Herne is part Kalona of course, though it's not strong genetically, lacking all features bar his horns, but he does eat flesh and will hunt for it in the winter months when resources are limited. In respects to hunting Herne tends the forests passionately and it must be understood he chooses his prey wisely, the weak or the old, never the strong as they have a better purpose to serve in the ecosystems. As the myth suggests he is a pretty solitary stallion, he does desire the company of females when his hormones kick in but generally speaking he is happy wondering the forests alone, tending to flora and fauna. One of it's meanings is that of an "unexpected surprise". Why did you choose this name: It just fit her perfectly. A surprise gift of baskets for lovemates, a type of flower of varying colors with beautiful meanings. Temper: Ent-like Personality: Aster is slow. No, not slow like that, but rather slow in the sense that she doesn't have the same concept of time as others. Everything has it's own pace and she cannot really be sped up. Relate her to the phrase used for NOLA, "the city that care forgot". Back when the phrase became popular there wasn't such a thing as air condition, and so everythign in NOLA moved in a much slower pace because it was too hot to overstress/overbother about things too much. As a foal, she will be like many others. Bright, curious, playful. Gentle, caring compassionate, loving, protective of her family and those she deems hers. Username: Junglerunner Name: Nothofagus (given name) Kew (appointed/nickname) Name Meaning: Latin name for a genus of trees also known as the southern beeches. Why did you choose this name: I named his sister first and then thought of one of my favourite public gardens I’ve visited and it’s a young garden called Tremenheere, which is a sculpture garden. On their website is the garden’s planting list and scrolling through I just took a liking to the name. I do love european beech trees also, and looking at the young stallion he has lime green hair like beech leaves in spring but also tuffs of red/dark orange leaves much like beech in autumn so I believe it suits him for that reason also.
Why then a second name? I chose Nothofagus based on his appearance, his personality and interests of course would develop with age, Kew then would be the name he gives to himself in his young adulthood and how he introduces himself, Nothofagus would be the name his mothers and sisters know him by. Why Kew; Kew gardens is one of the largest and diverse botanical collections in the world and was set up in 1840, the victorian Era. During the victorian ear there was also a surge in plant hunters, Nothofagus will grow to be an adventurous and ever thirsty plant hunter. Temper: Adventurous
Personality:
As a foal he listened to his Mama and Mommy, Nevena managed to keep his interest the longest passing on some of her wealth of knowledge for plants and it was through Hollie that he meet Snubbull. It was with this little pink mare that he gave a lot of his attention to as a foal, he loved flowers, the bigger, brighter and more exotic the better. But it was his uncle Laurel he bonded to the most, or it should be said, had one of his greatest influences in for his adventurous nature and wanderlust. You’d have thought being the only stallion in the small family, other than Laurel who didn’t count as such as he wasn’t always around that Nothofagus would feel protective of all the mares he loved so much however the only male role model was Laurel and both Mama and Mommy where strong enough characters to care from themselves the thought to stick about never crossed his mind. When he was old enough he travelled a little with Laurel but as his confidence grew and he matured he began travelling on his own.
His travels are not simply to satiety his wanderlust but also his passion for exotic plants. It is during this time he dubs himself Kew. Kew often returns from his travels with numerous pouches, wooden boxes and jars containing small plants but most likely, seeds. He collects a few seeds from each specimen, a few being planted in his collection garden and one or two going into his seed bank system. In the centre of his prized and treasured garden is an ancient and twisted tree, with many a nook and cranny. Kew layers the trees nooks with dried grasses and then places the seeds into nooks and covers with more grass to ensure they keep dry and that they never germinate. Whilst on his travels he asks Snubbull to care for his garden. Note: If Kew and Heligan as characters both existed, Heligan would hate Kew, for what he does would be seen as an imbalance to the natural intentions of mother nature. However Kew would argue that he is protecting nature with his seed bank system incase plants ever became at risk of extinction due to habitat loss. Heligan would argue then that this was mother natures design and the debate would continue.
Besides his life time commitment as a plant hunter Kew has a very free and open nature. He obsessives about the next flower or plant he wants to hunt down; rumours of a bigger brighter bloom, or a plant that only flowers once ever few years - he’ll want to see it and capture a seed sample. However the small spaces of time between his travels though, Kew is an affable stallion who can charm mare and stallion alike, wether its comparing them to a bloom or tales of adventure. He has an easy nature and always sees the good in the world around him.

Username:HoneyTeaTree Name: Witch Hazel Name Meaning: Luck, Protection, Wishes Why did you choose this name: Witch Hazel, to me for one odd reason or another, inspires a spunky, fun type of personality, flavored with mysticism and magic. I love the meaning the plant has within the realm of symbolism and thought it would fit this mare's personality pretty well. Temper: Quirky Personality: Witch Hazel has always been... quirky. Where as most tend to see the forest as a serene, calming place filled with woodland creatures, Witch Hazel has always seen a place of magic. She feels an odd affinity with the trees and she listens to them as they speak to her and tell her their stories, of their sometimes century long lives and of all the things they have seen through their ongoing lifetime. Because her friends generally consist of trees outside of her immediate family and the few other Soq that her mothers have met over the years, Witch Hazel has a hard time discerning between those of good character and those of bad character. She is, generally, overly trusting and would follow most anyone should she still be able to hear the wise whispers of the trees in her ears.
One of her favorite things to do when trying to pass time, is to tell fortunes with her own, Witch Hazel patented, practice. None of her wishes and fortunes ever consist of negative energy, not it's all positive and the sky's the limit for her, and her fortunes range from anything within daily life to late milestones like birthdays and finding love. Of course it shouldn't come as any surprise that Hazel has her own, odd form of superstitions. Username: ChaosTheories Name: Eoghan Name Meaning: Possibly means "born from the yew tree" in Irish Why did you choose this name: Since he and his siblings were found in the forest, I think it would be great as a reminder of how they appeared as if the trees had borne them. Temper: Omit
Personality: Being surrounded by females in his immediately family has made Eoghan a bit rebellious. He likes to push the boundaries with anything he does, from the foal-like challenges of climbing logs, to trying to bend the rules his mothers have set upon him. Naturally, whenever Laurel comes to visit, Eoghan tends to cling to the stallion like moss on a tree trunk. Laurel's influence does not help to curb Eoghan's rebellious nature, and may lead him on a path that Nevena and Hollie may not approve of.
However, Eoghan's confident demeanor tends to wilt when he is away from the forest and his family. He shares Nevena's deep connection to nature, particularly when it comes to trees. Being away from them makes him feel like something is missing, which quickly drives him back to the shelter of the forest. Even though he may rebel against many things, he loves to be taught and will listen to his mothers' lessons for hours, especially when they focus on the plants and nature around him. He secretly enjoys nurturing small saplings and shoots, but he will hide away his little garden, since he wants to look tough.
Eoghan also has trouble interacting with stallions other than his uncle. Strangers in general can make him nervous and shy, but he is more willing to speak to mares than stallions. Even though he tries to put on a strong facade like Nevena, he actually takes after Hollie more, with his desire to nurture and care for others. Why did you choose this name: I think willows are elegant looking and Nevena, as well as the filly's, hair reminds me of them. Temper: Melancholy Personality: Willow is a timid filly, often hiding behind her mother's hooves. There seems to be some sort of unshakable sorrow about her, even when she's doing something she enjoys.
For all the sadness that perfumes the air about her and the fact she's a pile of nerves, Willow does have a sense of humor (just not one that seems to be similar to everyone else's) that she tries to share with others. The filly has a collection of insects with goofy names that seem to be wearing what can only be an attempt at clothes made of bits of leaves and twigs. If asked about them Willow will start to ramble about a comedy she is writing about them, but despite many edits to her story it always comes across as dark and a tad bit morbid.
Favourite plant and/or flower: The dragon's mouth orchid

Username: Mahogany Sunset Name: Cedar Name Meaning: Named for the cedar tree, which his frond markings and reddish brown colorations resemble. Why did you choose this name: Cedar trees, at least where I am from, are known to be long-lived trees and survivors of fires, despite bark that appears thin. They can stand for more than five hundred years, almost guardians of their forests, and I think that is fitting for his personality. Temper: Sentinel. Personality: Cedar is a guardian. He was born to be a guardian - with his upbringing, how could he not be? With Nevena's passion for caring for nature and Hollie's passion for caring for others, Cedar knows how important compassion is. He is a quiet foal, but his heart is strong and chivalrous: he will listen with fervor whenever anyone needs an ear, and be there to provide a shoulder to lean on. He will be there for his mothers, his sisters, their friends, and anyone who passes through their territory.
Along with that, he is a forest guardian. When he is not helping his family and friends, he is ambitious in his pursuit of forest restoration and protection, putting safeguards in place to help forest creatures in times of crises. When he was young, he heard tales of the great fire of the Kawani and those who were lost to it. Cedar is bent on creating resevoirs that will last, discovering springs and putting them to use to keep anyone nearby safe from the flames. He also does his best to care for the plants in surrounding areas with Nevena's help and knowledge, seeing to it that they stay healthy and bear fruit to the good of the forest.
Deep in the recesses of his heart, though, Cedar is nervous: he is incredibly afraid of fire and what it would mean if one sparked again - the destruction of his home and possibly his family. For this reason, he is terrified of lightning storms. They are one of the only times when he completely loses his composure and is instead the one in need of comfort. Favourite plant and/or flower: Dahlias are my favorite flower! I actually have 16 tubers sitting on my kitchen table right now so I can plant them come April (trying out my green thumb)! My love for them was inspired at the tender age of ten when I attended one of my first rabbit shows, and there was a rain garden exhibit featuring them.
Username: Mahogany Sunset Name: Amaranth Name Meaning: Greek - unfading flower. Why did you choose this name: I have a deep connection to Ancient Greece (wrote a 500-page novel set there), and the word and idea surrounding the amaranth has long fascinated me. The amaranth has come to symbolize immortality, and extending that to this filly, unfading innocence. Temper: Naive Personality: Amaranth is an innocent. When she first came to, she stood behind her siblings, despite being the oldest, and followed them blindly to their mothers, who she in turn followed with an admiration that remained childlike through the years. She has an inherent wonder about the world, something that, deep in the recesses of her mind, she is pretty sure is from not originating in it. She was born of a wish, after all - she had no idea what to expect when she got here, so everything is new and beautiful.
Aside from her constant state of awe, Amaranth is a sweet filly who only means well - she has a mostly good grasp on common sense, but has little to no idea why keeping secrets is a good thing. She is fairly certain that secrets are what tears people apart, and that is what saddens her above all - hate. Seeing relationships fall apart hurts her, and sometimes she feels it on a personal level. So, siblings be warned: she will insist that you tell each other your secrets instead of asking her to keep them quiet. She will be an unrepenting tattler.
Amaranth's single goal is to stop hate from spreading. She will sit people down for serious discussions - complete interventions - if she has to. She won't stand for ill feelings if she can help bring peace. (And I have no doubt that this will probably get her in trouble every so often.)
She feels a connection to nature, but it is not as strong as Nevena's. She merely loves basking in its wonders and sharing them with others. If a plant or animal is sick, she will do her best to find help, but she does not believe she's really the best for keeping things healthy. If she is the last chance something has, though, she will be all in and ready to help. Favourite plant and/or flower: More dahlias! And a willow, because it's my second favorite.
Username: belloblossom Name: Lamb's Ear Name Meaning: It's the name of a plant, known for it's soft, fuzzy leaves. Why did you choose this name: To follow the plant-related naming theme of Hollie's side of the family, plus... just look at his ears! xD Temper: Amiable Personality: Lamb will grow into a well-mannered foal in the guidance of his mothers. His desire will be to make all feel equally loved and appreciated, for there is quite a lot of good in others. He will delight in making others happy, but will have enough good sense to not be considered gullible. He will spend a great deal of his foalhood looking out for Brinley, understanding that her sensitivity is not always a trait to be admired and he will take on the "protective older brother" stereotype from this with pride. In fact, as he grows into adulthood, this will apply to both of his sisters, not just Brinley. If anyone messes with his sisters, they better talk to him!... Politely and in a respectable environment rather than coming to fisticuffs. Favourite plant and/or flower: I actually am fond of fennel, because it was the first plant I grew that flourished in my garden box, despite my forgetting to water it so often. sweatdrop
