After plenty of walking, exploring, observing wild pokemon, talking, laughing, with some climbing, stops to rest, and a picnic interspersed throughout the day, the pair finally walked back through the valley - again - but this time to head to the boat for their return trip to Kodo. Overall it had been a wonderful, relaxing trip. Spending an entire day out in the wilderness wasn't exactly his cup of tea, but it was Taavi's - and if for whatever reason he wasn't aware of it before, he definitely was now after his friend had happily talked his ear off at length on multiple occasions, though he'd been just as happy to let him go on as much as he wanted - but it was still a thoroughly enjoyable trip. Especially considering he didn't need nearly as many breaks as he expected he would. Perhaps his lung was finally healing, or the lack of cigarettes was finally paying off? Both? Possibly both. Either way it was awesome, even if giving up smoking was difficult to do after having been addicted to it for so long.
Having spent literally the entire day hanging out and chatting with Taavi, Abel was content to walk a while in companionable silence - they didn't have to be talking to enjoy each other's company, after all - but when his best friend broke the brief silence, it was with something he hadn't really expected. Of course he'd want to move out into his own place again - because of course he would - but despite how it was only supposed to be for a week, despite how much he'd tried to avoid having anyone stay at his apartment, he'd grown used to it, grown to enjoy it, so hearing that that'd almost assuredly change in the near future was kind of... not upsetting, but... something. "Oh," he said after a moment or two of thoughtful, mildly surprised silence, and his eyebrows lifted a bit as he looked over at his best friend. Even though at first he'd wanted him to only stay for a week, he found himself... wishing he'd stay longer. Funny how that worked. "You don't have to rush out, y'know. You can stay as long as you need to to find a good place." Though granted, he'd had since late November - sort of, their trip back to Sinnoh probably set him back a bit financially - to save up, but was that enough time to save up enough to move out and buy everything he'd need to buy for an apartment?

"Um, thanks." Taavi smiled warmly at Abel and shrugged slightly awkwardly. "I don't want to impose and I know it was just supposed to be a few days but uh... well despite everything," Alyssa, sleeping on a couch, having no personal space, Alyssa, "I've really enjoyed living with you but I know your place isn't really meant for two people so...." Taavi shrugged again. "So uh, I won't rush off anywhere unsuitable but I am trying to find somewhere. Heh, and you probably wouldn't mind a bit of privacy sometimes right?" he added with what was almost definitely probably a smirk.

"Well it was mostly only a couple days because of her," Abel replied with a shrug. It had also been because of his secrets, but knowing Taavi better now he knew perfectly well that he would never even think to go snooping anywhere for anything. "And honestly I've really enjoyed having you stay with me. I'd kind of convinced myself it'd be better if I lived alone and I did for a few years, but it.. yeah, despite how shitty the circumstances for it were, I still really liked having you stay with me for so long. But you're right on both counts," he added with a chuckle and a smirk of his own as he clapped Taavi on the shoulder again, "absolutely without any doubt guilty as charged on the second one. But that's not as important as you finding a good place, so I'm glad you're not gonna rush off somewhere cheap or unsafe or anything. Take your time and find somewhere that'll work well for you and your pokemon, yeah? Where you live is important."

Taavi beamed as Abel slapped his shoulder companionably and he nodded agreement to Abel's agreement. "Well I don't blame you, um, everyone wants some privacy with their partner right? Having somebody sleeping on the couch in the livingroom can cramp your style a bit! Yeah though, we'll find somewhere good that's in our price range which is a lot better than it was when I was at Meat Palace! No more crappy studios for me thanks." Taavi laughed briefly and rubbed his back of his neck. "But uh, yeah it's been great and you know I'll be over all the time! To eat Zev's cooking, and to see you both. And you guys can come to my place too! When I have it. Standing invitation."

"Yeah, you're absolutely right about that. Having privacy sometimes is kind of important..." And he'd be lying if he said it wasn't, or that he didn't want it - he'd be the biggest liar in existence - but rather than go on along that vein he chuckled instead. "I dunno about cramping styles though, but I'd expect you probably cramp a bit after sleeping on that couch for so long. It wasn't the most comfortable thing when I bought it a couple years ago, so I can't imagine sleeping on it every night." He still felt bad that he didn't have anywhere better for Taavi to sleep, but at least a couch was better than camping outside indefinitely. He wasn't about to have that a year ago, and he still wasn't going to have it now. Camping for fun? Sure, absolutely. Camping because you were evicted? No, forget that.
Oh, he'd forgotten about that. "Mmh, yeah, I bet you get paid much better at the KSO than you did at Meat Palace," the blond mused aloud in thoughtful tones, though he wasn't about to ask how much he was actually paid. "I never saw your old apartment though, so I can't speak to how bad it was compared to what you can get now. Sounds like you can definitely get something better though, yeah?"

Taavi laughed again, this time at the thought of his previous apartment. "Well it could've been worse, there was no mould! Everything was just a bit um, tiny and worn out and creaky. There was a leak around the window - fixed that - and I rehung the cupboards in the kitchen area and planed down the bathroom door because it didn't close properly... I left it in a much better state than when I arrived actually! A lot. But it'd be nice to move in somewhere I don't have to fix up before it - y'know - works. I quite like doing DIY stuff like that but not when it's because the place I've moved into just sucks!"

Eugh... Abel couldn't help but wince a bit in sympathy. "Man, I'm glad for that, but that sounds kind of..." Awful? Terribly? Shitty? "Not that great. Hopefully your new apartment will be ready for you to move in and you won't have to do anything to it, but... I'll help you move in when you do find a place, and if it does need a bit of touching up then I'll help you out with that too. Though it'd be better if it didn't need any of that, yeah," he agreed with a chuckle as he stuck his thumbs back into his pockets and kept walking along the winding path through the valley. He was tired, because of course he was tired, but he felt good. It was a good trip, to be sure. They'd have to come back again sometime, or maybe go somewhere else to explore.
"Plus," he went on, "it means we can all hang out at your place sooner! Or mine. Either one, and with take-out or pizza or Zev's cooking," his delicious, wonderful cooking, "and I'll bring drinks. We can do a sort of housewarming thing, except for an apartment. Apartmentwarming? ..nah that sounds weird," the blond said dismissively with a shake of his head.

"It wasn't the best, yeah," Taavi agreed with a wry little grin. "I was low on money and options and time back then though, so wherever I end up next should be fine. I don't mind if it needs a bit of touching up but, um, no major carpentry to do would be good. And that could be fun! I mean if you'd help with anything that needs doing, or if not just come over for house slash apartmentwarming." One the one hand it would be pretty weird living on his own - just him and his partners again - but on the other hand he guessed he'd get used to it pretty quickly, he'd only lived with Abel for a year and he'd lived alone for about four before that.

He was still of the opinion that Taavi shouldn't have to do any major carpentry - or any major anything - to an apartment that was allegedly ready for a new resident to move into, so hopefully he'd find somewhere good that really was ready for someone to move into that didn't really need anything done to it first. But like he'd just said, he was in a better place now in almost every sense of the word, so he could take his time finding something good that he could afford, unlike before where he'd had to take what was probably the first cheap apartment he could find.
"Yeah, it'd be good I think," he agreed with a nod and a smile as his thoughts shifted to more positive things than the various degrees of shittiness the past held, "we could turn some music on and clean up or work on stuff, and help move your stuff in, and get something to eat. You'll need furniture too, probably, since it's cheaper to buy or get your own rather than renting someplace already furnished. Plus you don't know where that stuff's been or how many people have been on it," or what they did on it, "so it'd probably be good to go shopping for stuff anyway." ...man, Taavi would need everything though. As far as he could remember, his friend had mostly only had whatever he could fit into his backpack. Granted it was a large backpack, but still. That wasn't much stuff.

"Oh, yep," Taavi nodded agreement and made a small noise of amusement. "I foresee myself sleeping on my camping mat for a night or two while I get things sorted! Couch is top of my list of stuff to get, I can sleep on it and people can sit on it! Then a bed, then a table and chairs and then other stuff. If I can get it all on the same day that'd be great but if not I guess it's not the end of the world right? And there's a charity shop near the offices in town that sells decent second hand furniture so I think I'll look there, cheaper for me and money for a good cause right? Everyone's happy." Taavi did indeed look happy as he said this, brand new wasn't important but new to him was exciting! "Y'know I've always liked those corner couch things but they're probably really expensive," he added as an afterthought.

After a breath of a laugh, Abel shot a wry grin over at his friend. "That's fair, and that shouldn't be too bad. A couch is definitely a good thing to get first, I... need a new couch myself, actually," he added thoughtfully, adopting a similarly thoughtful expression. "I could give you mine, if you want. Even if you'd prefer to get a new, better one that hasn't been slept on for a year, you could keep it until you find something else, if you'd like. Or not -- I won't be upset or offended if you don't want it. But either way we could go couch shopping together," the blond went on, his lips curving into another bright smile. He did need a new couch, and Taavi needed one in general - or would once he moved - so it only made sense. If he only wanted it temporarily then that was just fine. If he didn't want it at all, that was just fine too. It was just a couch, one he wasn't even remotely attached to, so he really didn't care if it ended up in a dump or not. But if his friend could use it, then all the better. It'd probably be a bit more comfortable than just sleeping on a mat on the floor, at any rate.
"Oh! You could also look into those stores that sell you cheaper furniture that you have to assemble yourself. I know I've seen one or two of them around. And don't rule it out just yet," he added encouragingly, reaching a hand out to gently punch him in the shoulder - if one could even call it more than a tap - and gestured vaguely with his other hand, "I'll bet there are some that aren't too much if you hunt around. I'll help you look, if you want?"

"Oh, y'know that'd be great actually!" Taavi replied, he'd looked cheerful before but he perked up a little more at the idea. "I mean you probably do need a new one after I slept on it all year so uh, if I could take it when I find a place? And then we could both look for new ones sometime. A self assembly thing is probably going to be a lot cheaper actually and I don't have a problem with putting them together. It's like a puzzle! Kind of fun, right?" Taavi looked only briefly worried after he said this, even if Abel didn't enjoy doing that kind of thing he knew him way well enough now to know he wouldn't think it was weird that he did enjoy it.

Ah, he did want it! Abel brightened a bit as well, glad that he could help at least that much. It wasn't much, to be fair, but it was better than not having a couch at all at first. Though granted... he'd probably need to go buy a couch sooner than Taavi did, since at that point he wouldn't have one, but it would still be a good thing to do. ...hm. Maybe he should get him some kind of house apartmentwarming gift... Food for thought. Maybe Zev would have some ideas?
"Cool! I do kind of need a new one now, yeah, but it wasn't that great to begin with, so I probably needed a new one even before you moved in. But yeah, definitely, once you get an apartment I'll help you bring it over," he said cheerily after a moment or two to let all those thoughts run through his head quite rapidly, though his expression softened a bit as he nodded encouragingly. "It is like a puzzle. A really big puzzle that you can actually use once it's done! I'll help you with that too, if you--"
A clattering of rocks and shifting dirt slipping and tumbling down the steep incline nearby interrupted his sentence -- and preceded a unique Vulpix that slipped and tumbled down as well before rolling to a halt in a small, grimy heap further up the path. More clattering could be heard up the incline, this time more deliberate and careful, before a hungry-looking Charmeleon slid down the rockface and into view of the group. It paid them no mind though, instead taking a moment to zero in on the Vulpix that struggled as much as it could to push its shaking form to stand.

The sound of falling rocks jerked Taavi's attention away from the conversation and towards its source- threat?... No, well not to them anyway. He couldn't help but grimace a bit at the Vulpix's pretty inevitable fate but everything had to eat and sooner or later most things got eaten in turn, that was just how-
//I know her!// Aurelia yelped and hastened forward to the other Vulpix's side.
Swift, true to his name, bounded after Aurelia and then past her, placing himself between the two small fire types and the Charmeleon.

Immediately alert and ready for whatever threat came their way, Abel tensed and his gaze darted to the... oh. Oh... The tension ebbed away and he winced in sympathy too. Poor thing... While he wanted to help it, predators did need to hunt, so... s**t, which did he--
Isaac had none of his friend's hesitation. The situation before them brought back unpleasant, horrible memories - of being unable to save or protect himself, of being chased by someone that would do him harm, of collapsing at the feet of strangers and hoping they might deign to help him, to name just a few - and such things spurred him to action. Immediately he sprang forward with Aurelia to dart over to the unknown Vulpix's side, but unlike Taavi's pair of fire-types, Isaac's small fangs were bared and the gem on his forehead glowed a split second before a colorful Psybeam shot towards the Charmeleon, hitting the unsuspecting creature right in the face.
It stumbled back with a yelp, more startled than injured, before it glared at the interlopers now separating it from its prey. Even as Sonia took a few steps towards her comrades and aimed a snarl at the offending fire-type - actions Caleb copied - and Tania mimicked Elizabeth as she flexed her claws and punched one paw into the other, eyes gleaming with excitement at the prospect of a fight; despite all of them, the Charmeleon growled and snarled, flames licking its exposed fangs as it flexed its own claws and tried to gauge if it could possibly get past Swift, Aurelia and Isaac before the other pokemon could assist them in earnest.
Down on the ground the Vulpix's struggles only led to her flopping onto her other side, her breathing labored and shallow, her ears partially laid back but mostly hanging towards the dirt below her, her eyes half-lidded and dull. A breathy, nearly silent keening sound slipped from her throat as she tried once more to push herself to her feet, though this time she couldn't even get herself to roll over. Any strength she'd had before had left her in her burst of speed to try and get away from her pursuer, and look where that had got her: Helpless, unable to hardly move, her head swimming more than she ever thought possible, and even if the Charmeleon didn't kill her, then either whoever - or whatever - was around her now would do so, unless the sickness killed her first. Something though, one of them sounded familiar but far away, and but unfortunately her vision swam almost as much as her head did and she couldn't hope to figure out who it was. Would they help her...? But it was too late for her, because even if they did save her from the Charmeleon, they couldn't possibly save her from whatever ailed her -- from whatever had killed her brother. No, it was far too late for her.
...but I don't want to die.
