Melvin knew Joy was capable of handling her own business, but a bit of white knight was hard to ignore when someone used such a strong word. Even now, he had the same reaction to it as he did when he swore as a child, expecting some authority to punish them for the action.
His eyes narrowed as he looked at Jason. "I don't know what's going on between you two, but you better watch she doesn't kick your a** on the training grounds for using that kind of language."
He looked over at Joy, a lot less chiding as he had been before and far more upset. "Actually I am done, but I didn't come here for that. I was here to pick up a portable defibrillator that is in the office. I just heard you guys as I was passing by."

Blessed be the culturally ignorant, for subtext and context fly right over their heads. In Joy's case, that particular slur was not one she often heard and therefore simply attributed as a regional thing Jason used.
It didn't mean that she was okay with being cussed at now that the whole brawl was over. "Whatever, Captain Kupal, you're not part of this convo between me and Melvin," she said, slinging an equally colorful slur right back at Jason. The cheerful grinning she said this with was in total dismissal of the blonde Moon, as if she didn't see him as a threat. Sure he got some good hits in earlier but he was a higher ranked Moon, something that meant he should have had better combat know-how than Joy did.
"You should go to your room and sleep off that crankypants 'tude you got going on," Joy suggested, waving him goodbye before turning to Melvin. "You needed to get a what-now? "How about you watch your own back and stop butting in on other peoples business!" He was tempted to summon his weapon again, or at least slap that cheerful grin off her wretched face. But with two people here he was vastly outmatched. And apparently he wasn't part of the conversation now, so he stood back and fumed for the moment, hands clenching and opening every so often.

Joy shrugged again, "I accidentally woke Jason up from a nap. I tried to apologize and when it was obvs words weren't working I figured a little rambulan would help him blow off steam." What? It made sense to her.
Kubyerto was just pleased to see his weapon bonded manage to handle herself in a fight.

Jason was watching them both with a look of intense pleasure. "It's not my fault she is entirely insane and annoying as heck. She's the one who started it." Ironic, considering who they were speaking too. "The only thing your stupidly phrased word did was to piss me off any more. You're just lucky dipshit here decided to intervene. "

Joy quirked a brow at Jason, studying him with a level of intensity she hadn't shown earlier. She wasn't that close with Jason and she knew there were people who were just cranky as hell when roused prematurely (she was certainly one of them). But there was a level of malice in the senior moon that she was sure he didn't have during all those missions.
Hell, even with Sammy unintentionally intimidating him at Camp Lucy there wasn't this string of slurs and venom. Joy was a masochist, even if she was unaware of it, but it was of the physical sort, which was why she just "Tsst!" at him, as if he was a pet dog caught doing something naughty. "Go back to your room, Jason. Get your cranky-a** Raven Lord self some more sleep. I'll go help you with that thingy you're getting, Melvin."
And should Jason try to snap back, she would just snap her fingers and "Tsst!" at him.
