Otto yelped as he was tossed onto the couch, reminding him of subtle flashbacks of roughhousing with his Grandfather. He scrambled to face Gale again and found he was in no position to be running away anymore. He stared unblinking up at Gale while the other blonde made his speech, finding no means to interrupt. Calm down? Fine. He'd be calm. Calm as a ******** cucumber. " Fine." He said in a barely restrained tone of finality. He crossed his arms, leaned back on the couch, and just stared at Gale.

Gale waited a moment to see if Otto was going to run away, then slowly lowered his foot from the couch. He still stood in front of him, however, arms folded across his chest, poised just in case.
"Okay. So. Talk to me. Tell me why you think you're not supposed to be here."

Otto huffed, blowing his bangs up from his face. "I think I'm here cause I'm a damned pain in the a** at home. I think I'm here cause all sorts of crazy kids are here hearing voices in their heads. I think this is a looney bin or juvie centre for kids nobody wants."

Gale mulled this over, then gave a half sort of shrug.
"Well, you're right on one behalf of the hearing voices, but it's not because you're crazy or, er...'loony,' as you said. As for a juvie hall, you're not. There are plenty of people here of all ages."
He lifted a hand, idly twisting Jinhai's ring. "What sort of voice are you hearing?"

Openly admitting aloud to Gale that he heard a voice in his head meant accepting it. He didn't want to be crazy. He wanted to be normal. He rung his hands, avoiding eye contact for a while. "A girl." He mumbled. Since it was female, it was that much harder to pretend it was just his own thoughts and not a disembodied voice at all. But it had a name. It had emotions of it's own. Her own, he supposed. "She says her name is Tenya and she's stuck and can't find home." Stuck in his head, detached from her home and body. Scared. " M'not crazy..." He mumbled to himself, picking feverishly at his nails. "Look, it ain't tellin' me to burn things or kill my family or nuthin'. I mean it." This he did say to Gale, meeting his eyes at last. "I mean I don't like my family, and I wish my dad would hit his head on a steel beam, but I wouldn't do nuthin' to him myself, aight?"

He tried to remember the name of Otto's weapon and failed - but, as it turned out, he didn't have to remember it. Tenya was familiar, Gale's mind doing the equivalent of a finger snap of realization, his expression softening a little. He hadn't heard of Otto's family life before now; it made something in his chest tighten.
After a moment, he slowly sank down, crouching in front of Otto.
"Otto," said Gale quietly, "I promise you this: you're not going mad. Tenya isn't...I know you're probably not going to believe me, but she isn't anyone bad. You aren't a bad person, and I know you're not going to believe that either, but this isn't a place for crazy people."
He offered a tentative smile.
"You're not crazy."

Otto furrowed his brows. He was hesitant to trust Gale. Hesitant to trust anyone. He hated Gale. Hated everyone. Hated how the man knelt down in front of him, even if it was likely a gesture of equalizing himself. He wanted nothing more than to hate and create more barriers between himself and the whole world. "Then how come I hear a voice? What is it? Why's it there?"

Gale let out a sigh.
"It's a partner," he said, knowing it would likely sound ridiculous. "I have a voice too; his name is Jinhai. Yours is Tenya. They...bond with us, to make us stronger."

It sounded more than ridiculous. It sounded made up. From what he'd seen on Twitter, a lot of the island bought into this fantasy crap. Not that Otto didn't enjoy fantasy. He did. As books. Although he didn't read very much. He preferred movies. However, maybe Otto was getting tired of trying to pretend nothing was wrong with him, because all he did was shrug. "Fine. Sure. Partner."

He could tell that Otto didn't believe him, Gale heaving a sigh.
"Okay," he said slowly, "Okay. Have you tried, er..."
He hesitated, and then, with a flicker of white light, summoned Jinhai, the rifle appearing in his hand, held outwards in case Otto thought he was being threatened or something, Gale's other hand held up in a gesture of submission.
"Jinhai," he clarified, gesturing at the gun. "My partner."
The weapon was hastily desummoned. Gale raised his brows at Otto, wondering if he'd gone too far.
"Not crazy."

Gale would find Otto's jaw dropped in a frozen state of surprise. All the talk of monsters and magic really was true. The voice in his head took on a new feeling inside him, more like a power than a ghost to be feared. "So then.. I can do that too.. right? Make a gun appear outta nowhere?"
