Gale took a long sip of the coffee, which wasn't his usual affair, but enough to make him slightly more awake. He gave Marcus another look.
"Yes, well," he said, and gestured in a vague direction. "Mark."
Clearly this was the explanation for all that was wrong with the world. Also "Lucky."October was now very meticulously eating the gummy snacks, one by one, by color. It looked like very intense work.
"Naps are an important part of everyday life," he informed Sherry, after he'd eaten all of the green ones first. "They provide nutrients and fiber and all sorts of Very Important things for the development of all mankind."
It was unclear whether he was serious or totally bullshitting it.

Sherry watched with interest as October carefully ate his gummies. He seemed to be choosing only the green ones. To each their own. It was still interesting, though. She began to nod as he started explaining naps. Yes, they were quiet important. However, it all got weird after that. Nutrients from naps? That was a new one to her. October clearly had a sense of humor (because if he wasn't joking Sherry was going to be very, very worried about the state of education in the world). Sherry gave a small laugh. "Are you telling me I could be sleeping instead of eating vegetables?"

It was already 4:10pm and the lighthouse was looking like the next gathering for the weekly Deus Bring Your Own Costco Meat and Booze BBQ when Mark finally showed up - and just Mark.
Actually, it took even longer for him to get a word in between all the conversation, as he got caught up in one himself about canonical Disney Star Wars timelines that included the Clone Wars for about five minutes before he finally remembered the most important thing other than himself and clambered on top of his table setup.
"Attention everyone! So Caelius is dea- departed on a mission," Mark suddenly amended, upon seeing Rep, Lucky and Gale there, "and he left me, yours truly, to take over, so feel free to like, refer to me as sir but I'll take your excellency too."
He paused, letting everyone sink this information in as any good lead should. "I already set the coordinates for the distress signal, this is going to be a search and rescue, we're rescuing our fellow Hunters and like, saving lives. No touching things, seriously, do not touch things, try to find any missing Hunters, especially any who's name may begin with D and end with Wight and if you see anything, give me a shout on the headset, one of which you can grab from this table, like 'Hey Mark, Sir, I fell into a trap, what should I do?' sort of thing. They should work better now, just please like stick the piece in one ear. If you're not talking, there's a switch on the side to turn it off so you can just listen, because I get really get sick of heavy breathing after a while, it's weird and awkward."
He counted his fingers, as if trying to figure out what he was missing. "Oh yeah, there is a very, very, very, very, very small chance we might encounter some horsemen so don't do anything weird. Just stay together in groups and they shouldn't bother us. Search and rescue man. Search and rescue. We'll get you guys all paid and stuff after we're done."
He gave the mostly stunned crowd a double thumbs up and then jumped off the table, hitting a button to get the portal up and running. "Don't forget your headsets!" The Death assistant yelled at everyone passing by, "Don't forget your water bottles! Don't forget to look for Dwight."
BASE INFORMATION WELCOME TO THE SAHARAOut of all the worst possible bases to land at, it had to be the Sahara. There was a Hunter base here, the bare remains of it now covered in sand blasting around the area in thick streams. Without goggles, the place is almost impossible to look at when the wind picks up for brief seconds at a time, and it seems dehydration may be one of their least worrisome problems. There are no bodies at the base, but a single radio-like device continues to beep at the skeletal pieces of base tent, continuing to Morse code the universal SOS signal. There are no bodies in sight. gaia_crown [ THE HEADSET ]: Your character can report any findings they want to Mark through the headsets, unless for some reason it has been gmed they have been disabled. This includes any observations, cries for help, random comments, whatever. Just QUOTE ZOOBEY and ASK IN BOLD RED. Sometimes he'll reply @ the important stuff, sometimes he will not if he thinks its not important, and you will get a quote back. - Your character can also ask IC questions to Mark this way! gaia_crown [ SEARCHING AROUND ] Your character, once they have gathered their bearings, can search around. Roll 1d10 to see what they find if they are just doing a generic sweep. You can roll a few times if you'd like as you interact with others/search around, otherwise just enjoy some RP funtimes with everyone else! 1: You find a few Hunter coats, but no actual Hunters on sight. 2: You find a broken, beat up laptop. It hasn't been running for a while 3. You find a box of water bottles, unused. Maybe they'll come in use later? 4. You find a box of spare goggles. Feel free to share them with other players by QUOTING Them. 5. You find another of the strange radio sets. It is beeping in morse code, BASE OVERRUN SEND HELP over and over again 6. You find a beat up cellphone. It is still working and begins to play a clip. Only the sound is working on it, the video too pixellated, and it is just someone faintly shouting "FAMINE CL-" 7. You find a 3Ds charger. Yes for some reason, just the charger. 8. You find what seems like the entrance to a cave. It requires a bit of digging and further investigation. What could be inside? (quote Zoobey) 9. You find a perfectly bleached human skull, but it has been there for quite a while. 10. Something seems to grab your ankle, and you suddenly trip, you could feel it but when you look around you see nothing. gaia_crown [ GM PROMPTS ] Your character may also get quoted with a GM prompt. Just read the instructions accordingly and react as you need. Just RP, you never know what may happen! gaia_crown [ Weapons, attacks, fear charges ] Runics, weapons, artifacts, etc etc can all be used in any situations (unless specifically gmed that any of them cannot). OOC exclaim If your character hasn't joined and is just coming in, they can still react to this post and just hop right in! exclaim

They got a headset! Travis would have been lying if he said that wasn't cool. Made him feel like a real agent of a cool military unit. His other assignments so far had been pretty lame compared to this one.
Even the desert was awesome. He'd never seen anything like it. Sure sand was pretty boring, and it kind of stung when flung at his face, but LOOK. He'd never have figured he'd get to see the Sahara, but here he was.
Alright. There were hunters lost out here and their job was to find them. Travis was 100% behind that. He was totally here to save people.
"Okay," he said to no one but himself really, "time to start looking." He stood there for a moment wondering if they should work in some sort of grid pattern. He stood still for all of two seconds. Nope. He was gonna get out there and search.
Travis set off at a brisk pace.

Jason wasn't sure weather he was concerned with the death lead not being here, or feeling safer since he wasn't. But it was a rescue mission, so he would take it with all seriousness. People's lives were at stake.
He picked up a headset and wore it as instructed. Tell Mark if he saw anything strange, simple enough to remember. Also to look for that guy Mark kept mentioning, he seemed real worried about him.
As soon as the moon entered the portal, he was blasted with sand, and now every inch of him and places he didn't want to be were filled with the substance.
"WHY DO WE EVEN HAVE A BASE HERE?!" Jason shouted into his headset, before coughing continuously. "Coughwealwaysgetcapturedcoughcough"

Kai never thought his googles from his weapon would actually have any use, but as he stepped through the portal hesitantly, he noticed that swimming googles could be used miles from water. Pushing them on his face, the bright blue and green googles at least kept it out of his eyes and shaded him from the sun but kept everything at a oddly blue sheen to it.
Still, better than getting teary-eyed and not getting anywhere.
What was more alarming was that he had never been out of the city and now in a course of a few weeks, he went to the island, the forest, and now the SAHARA of all places. Even when he thought of all the places he would like to see, the desert wasn't really a prime local he had on the list.
Looking about, he tried to see if they were near any pyramids and saw the place lacking in everything but sand and a bunch of busted pieces of what he guessed was the base Mark was talking about.
Nearby, he saw Jason having a coughing and walked over, slapping a hand on the man's back and offering him the water-filled milk jug he was carrying. "Hey, don't die yet. Here."
With the headset, he tested it out. "What does Dwight look like?"

Ace would have looked at Kimberly's message with a smile but didn't send a reply back. The tall Sun trainee took a glance at the mucky speaker, wondered if he overworked for too many days and forgot to take a shower. There was no disgusted or negative emotions showed though. If he rememebered correctly, Caelius was the name of the head of Death division. The take-over had been quite surprising since that new one had a big difference in personality to the previous one, referred to his short observation. Anyway, it was none of his concern since he belonged to Sun division. "We're going to Sahara again, and maybe horsemen too, my friend." The trainee spotted Kimberly swiftly and put a hand on her shoulder. "Also, you look great with your hair down. Meet you there." He then withdrew to grab a headset to put on and stepped into the portal. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The haunt had been ranted since they got out the portal and landed on miles of golden sands. "Oh crap." Ace cursed when his eyes got stinged by the blasting sands. The visibility was awful when all you could see was flying sands. He pulled his scarf to cover his mouth and nose as he walked around.
"For supervising and spotting any suspicious horsemen activities, I guess." He answered Jason under his scarf. "Jason, find something to cover your mouth and nose before you cough to your death." The latter was said with a playful tone.
Still speaking under his scarf, Kai's question was what he was going to ask the new Death lead. "Good question, I'd like to know too. Who's Dwight anyway? And how we distinguish him from the rest of hunters we might be rescuing?" He continued to walk in his pace, kicking the obstacle blocking his way.
"Um, did this base got assaulted?" He shared his thought with the rest. Now his mouth and nose were temporarily safe, he needed something to protect his eyes.

There was a strange shuffling noise over the headset, and then the very obvious sound of Pokemon theme music. Yes, Mark was literally playing Pokemon as they spoke, the little beeps along with the battle music making it way too obvious. "Uhhh, you know the guy who likes to dress up naked in a man thong for sexy pizza parties? That's him."
Yes, the best descriptor.

Kai listened and then turned back to the pair, holding his arms out with a wtf expression. "What the hell's that s'pose to mean?" He said, before taking off his coat.
"So where we even find these guys? I don't got a shovel." He set the jug down and worked to tie his hunter jacket around his head in an attempt at a head wrap. Sand was going to be a pain to get out of his hair, but if it worked for old movies, he would try a head wrap too.
Now with his jacket wrapped about his head and his swimming googles on, he looked around. "Gonna look for the gigolo." He said, guessing Dwight looked like a guy who oiled up and shook his a** for Benjamins in his free time.
Moving to the base, he started to pick at the broken metal poles and tarps before he fond a box. Opening the top off, he noticed a set of unmistakable bottles just sitting there completely untouched. "Hey I found water! You guys need any of this?!"Quote: 3. You find a box of water bottles, unused. Maybe they'll come in use later?

Jolting forward from the slap, Jason was able to stop coughing for a moment to take a sip from the offered jug. "T-thanks" he offered his gratitude, the advice from Ace also followed as he pulled up his own scarf. At least he could breathe now, though still couldn't see very far. Mark was proving to be as useful as he always was, which was not at all. "S-since when do we have sexy pizza parties?" he mumbled under his breath, the scarf muffling his voice even more. Since Mark assistance was preoccupied with his game, he'd have to try answer their questions. "It's a strong possibility" he spoke in regards to the base being assaulted. "I can't see anyone here, which means theres a good chance..." He trailed of, bending down to fish around in the sand, and pulled out a hunter coat. More digging revealed a few more, but no sign of their owners. "T-thats not a g-good sign." He turned towards Kai. "There's no point digging, we'll just have to walk around. We'll either stumble upon something, or it'll find us first." Or they'll just fall into a gaping maw like last time, sigh. "S-stay close." Quote: 1: You find a few Hunter coats, but no actual Hunters on sight.

Elio was pretty sure that if a place was remote, they were involved, and it was a serch and rescue mission there would be one ending to this Greek tragedy. Everyone ends up dead as ******** and no one gets a happy ending because ******** Greeks never liked to be happy they were all god damn pessimists. At least the Romans had some variety. At least until the whole church shut them down with that pagan nonsense. That was an artistic historical ran for another day however. Todays rant consisted of why Elio hated sand and was entirely against being there the second he stepped through the portal. "Why would he even be here?" He asked over the headset. "I am getting sand in places no sand is to be."

"Ooop, that's us. See you on the other side Terry~" Melody flashed a bright smile and a wink at the poor boy before turning away and grabbing a headset on her way through the portal. She didn't really know who Dwight was either, but he sure sounded... interesting?
On the other side, she went right to work exploring the area. It was extremely hot, sandy, gross, and despite all this while having to hold her dress down while shielding her eyes anytime the wind picked up, she managed to find something.
Quote: 6. You find a beat up cellphone. It is still working and begins to play a clip. Once she realized the video was no good, she held it close to her ear. Then played it a few more times before finally making out what might have been said. She un-muted her headset to ask, "What's a Feigning Cluh?"

"Is that a common occurrence?" Lin asked, squinting against the wind and grateful for the meager protection her glasses offered from the flying sand. She made sure the earpiece on her headset was firmly in place. Nothing here, Anax said snappishly. Waste of time.

Tempest squinted into the impossibly bright light of the desert. The hallmark of any brand-new trainee, she had her summoned weapon at the ready, and carried it with her through the portal. She continued to keep it lofted over one shoulder as she followed the others over to what had formerly been a base tent.
{ It certainly looks a mess, } Kasdeja observed with obvious disdain.
"Agreed," she mumbled back. It was completely abandoned, already being swallowed up by the sand. It looked like the group of them were just picking over the bones of the place. If Dwight, whoever the guy was, had been here, he was probably long gone now.
Tempest casually dragged the sword through the sand piled near the entrance, stopping when it hit something hard. She knelt down against the burning sand just long enough to scoop whatever it was out of its hiding place - and immediately dropped it. It was a skull - a human skull. "Oh. Nice. Real nice."
