"It is because it's getting dark out?" said the kid, who once again, had a leap of logic that nobody understood. He reluctantly folded his map away and pocketed it into Gale's old trainee coat. "Fine, but there's somewhere else I want to check out first, I think it's this way."
And now they were heading deeper into the fog. Thankfully, nothing attacked them on the way, and the only thing that they managed to discover once he stopped weaving around willy-nilly was an abandoned series of silos, and an old, entirely decrepit house that had been boarded shut along all the doors and windows and spray painted with the words "CONTAMINATED, LEAVE CLOSED."

"N-not just dark out..." He replied before the kid WENT DEEPER INTO THE FOG. Jason couldn't believe what he was seeing. Did he have like, no survival instincts?! How could he not see that creepy evil foggy horrible bad-ness?! At that point he really should of picked the kid up and just ran but instead he walked after the kid. "F-fine. But you c-can't leave my side. And stay where I can see you!"
The more they ventured in, the more the moon would make these tiny little whimpering noises up until the reached the boarded up house, where he just looked at it with a air of are you ******** serious I want my mommy
"O-okay, you've seen the h-house. T-theres no need t-t-to go inside right? C-can we g-go now?"

It was a good thing that all the exits of the very abandoned house were barred shut otherwise this would have gone-
-"I found an opening!" Shouted the trainee, waving from an open basement door. "Are you coming for not?"-
- Exactly as one would have expected
There was a loud slam as Jason's monetary responsibility crawled into the basement, and then a long period of silence.

There were so, so many other things he wanted to be doing other then going into a dark basement of a abandoned house, but before he could object his potential fine in waiting had disappeared inside, leaving him to quietly stand, fidgeting for about a minute before groaning in defeat. "W-wait up!" he opened the door and followed with a grumble. "What is this, a teens dare? I feel like i'm twelve again..."

There were shadowlings everywhere. It was usually an oddity for Fear and Insanity to show up at the same time, but it seemed the were taking cover from the mess outside. Like an infestation of roaches in a certain Death Assistant's office, they swarmed the entire basement, gathering along the ceiling and walls, taking a particular interest in Jason's new friend, barely noticeable thanks to the dim lighting except for flickers of movement.
"That's weird," said new friend looked up at the ceiling, and then back at an extremely expired old jar of pickles, "did you just see something move?"

Jason just wanted to curl up in a ball and cry, his skin crawling at the sheer multitude of shadowlings everywhere. He didn't even know there were this many on the island, let alone in one place. He would have to alert the higher ups about this. Thats if they would care about such small fry. But there were a lot of them, and only one of him. " Roaches" He croaked out a reply, standing in front of the infuriating dense child. He didn't want to attack and have them all swarm at once, he was no sun. At least he had a full charge to use if need be, but he rather not provoke the swarming mess of FEAR surrounding them. "A-are you d-done already?" The moon shookas he looked everywhere for any sign of encroaching shadowlings. HP: 40 Defending for 3 Charge: 3/3

"I hate roaches," came the muffled reply of someone searching through shelves of things they really shouldn't be touching. "They really creep me out."
There was some more clanking, though the shadowlings seemed to be intimidated by Jason's weapon, drawing closer, then further away in intervals. A loud clack later, and what sounded like a door swinging open. "Oh hey, I found the upstairs. You think there's any weapons I can use here?"
Some people just had no sense of self preservation ever.

"They're creeping me out too. And theres a-a lot of them here. So how about we get out and away from them?" Jason tried again. At least he was keeping the shadowlings at bay, the creatures intimidated by his weapon. Zanthvos glowed brighter as they approached, while his hunter looked for their charge who had apparently found a door leading upstairs. And then he was asking about weaponry, and Jason just wanted to walk back and throttle Mark for not explaining anything to this kid. ".... Why are you looking for weapons here?! he was so done. "We have a whole cove dedicated for that!" HP: 40 Defending for 3 Charge: 3/3

There was the steady thump-thump-thump of someone scurrying up the stairs. "Is that the place with all the stone etchings?" the voice was even more distant than before, "I went there but I didn't see any weapons, do you think-"
And then it went silent.

Before Jason had time to think on the implications of this, the child went silent, Not a good sign. ..."Oh s**t." He forgot about defense and jumped towards where he heard the door opening from before, intending to run up the stairs in a dead panic and look for the kid, already fearing the worst. "Hey, Are you okay?!" He called out. "Say something!"

It wasn't until Jason ran upstairs that he would see that thankfully, his five hundred bucks of babysitting was still alive-
- Staring at what was very obviously a portal to Halloween.
He just continued to stare, circling it warily, and then after some time, finally ask the inevitable. "What is this?"

Oh thank god the kid wasn't hurt. But he was staring at a unmanned portal, and Jason feared he might just run into the thing. Luck was with him for once, the kid was keeping his distance. "That...." He spoke slowly, putting on his adult voice, choosing his words. " Is something extremely dangerous. And if you're going to do a thing I say then at least do this; Do not touch it" He fished around for his phone, moving closer to his utterly clueless liability. "Now, lets back away slowly, and get out of this house." He really didn't want to text Mark, but as much trouble as he would be in, Jason had to let someone know about this thing. Text to Mark Theres a portal to halloween in the abandoned towns. Text to Mark Can we get someone to close it before we get attacked again?

At least Mark wasn't asking about the kid who seriously had a death wish. He typed up a BS excuse then sent it off, watching him and preparing himself to grab him before he did something not even Mark was dumb enough to do. Text to Mark Because I was looking for extra window materials. "Yes, it's a portal." Now he just sounded tired. "But this portal takes you to a frightening place with all kinds of things that will kill you the moment you step foot into it. And no, I am not exaggerating, nor am I crazy. Yes you can leave the island via this portal, but there are other ones that will take you to much nicer places."

There was a lot of reluctance and for a moment again it seemed like he was just going to run headfirst regardless of consequences, but he tilted his head slightly to the side at Jason, and just nodded, once. "I believe you."
And the two of them just stayed there for a moment longer, staring at the thing. Sure, there were shadowlings, but for the most part they seemed to just keep their distance. "Do you think the nicer portal is where my home is?" he finally piped up, a little wistfully.
Meanwhile, Mark wondered why the heck he was even getting supplies if Jason was also getting supplies, but was too lazy to actually text it out.
