"If it was me... would you have left me?" He was serious.

"No." It wasn't even something he had to think about, which surprised him for a moment; then he felt a little pang of guilt over the surprise.

"Exactly." Al said as he pulled Noah closer, hugging him and swaying a little. As horrible as the things Noah alluded to were, when it came down to it he really did what he had to at the time to survive. If he was well. If he wasn't infected along with the others. He would have been the first to die, by his own description of the disease. He would be the one, the half-eaten rotted corpse. The unknown and unnamed them didn't matter if he had to choose between them and Noah.
If that happened. He would have stayed a blank zombie forever. Looking for something, someone, but not remembering. In a way, Noah fought for the both of them and saved them in the end. The world is a strange scary place.
"You wanna distraction?"

Noah hugged Al hard, deeply grateful for the loyalty and love that simple statement contained. "Okay," he said, and, "yeah, that sounds good."

Al took Noah and held him, hip to hip, then dipped his head in to steal his lips away with a kiss. What did it taste like? A distant thought and a question best reserved for later.
