"Boots first, cocoa second." Her shoulder lightly bumped against his, face flushed from laughter as they made their way towards the rink's exit. Cordelia gently took her arm back so that she could reach for the gate, swinging it open so they could step off of the ice. It was another moment or two before they were back in their boots and, having dropped their skates back off at the rental booth, were on their way towards the cocoa stand. "Thank you for joining me tonight, Fritz. I-- I've had a wonderful evening, truly. I know I've said that already, but I felt it was worth repeating."

He felt both relieved and strangely disappointed as Cordelia took her arm back, Fritz wobbling off of the ice. His ankles were throbbing where the tops of the skates were pressed hard against them, but he managed to make it to a bench and switch to shoes, breathing out a sigh of satisfaction.
In line, for cocoa, he turned his head towards her, Fritz's expression softening. Something warm was curled in his stomach, and he let his shoulder bump gently against Cordy's, a brief yet meaningful touch of affection.
"Thank you for inviting me, I think I very much needed a good evening out."

"Any time you're in need of an evening out, good or bad, keep me in mind?" Cordelia's shoulder bumped lightly back against his in a gentle nudge before she swayed back to straighten herself out. "I'd be happy to go out with you-- Spend an evening out with you," she amended, and likely would have added on more were it not then their turn to step up and place an order at the counter. She glanced up to Fritz as she drew her wallet from her pocket, selecting enough singles to cover their cocoa. "We should do things like this more often. A little bit of normal to offset everything that isn't?"

He took a breath as though to steady himself, Fritz letting some of the tension ease from his back. Cordy was given a gentle look, his expression almost apologetic.
"I will," he said quietly. "You and the others, you...I could not have done any of this without you, and I am more grateful than I should be able to say. But yes, you are right," he added, in a lighter tone, trying not to delve into too much seriousness. "Normality is good - ah, here."
A few bills were quickly slid across to the cashier before Cordy could get hers out. Fritz flashed her a grin and passed her one of the cocoas.
"My treat for then end of a lovely evening."

Cordelia gave Fritz a look that said he was impossible and it was accompanied by a shake of her head and a softly spoken 'thank you' as she took her cocoa. It was easy to draw warmth from the cup, even with the cardboard band wrapped around it to protect them from the heat and her smile broadened as she held the cup close as though she could warm the rest of herself the same way. The cocoa wasn't the only thing warming her, though. The company she kept that evening had also brought warmth. The lights, the music, the laughter... Everything up until the cocoa, including the slips and falls on the ice, had made the evening what it was. The cocoa, if anything, was just icing on the cake. With the evening wearing on into night it was edging on too cold to sit down so they continued moving, following one of the paths around the rink as they sipped their cocoa. When her cup was empty, the warmth of the liquid ebbing away from her hands even as it filled the rest of her, she looked to Fritz. "If we stay here any longer they're going to shut the lights off on us," she teased softly, lightly breaking the comfortable silence that had settled between them. "Would you like a ride home?"

He wished he felt more comfortable in his own skin, comfortable enough to give Cordelia a hug or even just a brief squeeze of their hands. It was taking all of his effort just to continue on as he was, even if it was becoming steadily easier with each different encounter.
But for now - for now he could focus on the pleasure of the evening, the pleasure of the company. Fritz gave his companion a smile, the edges of it softening.
"Yes, please," he said. "And thank you."
