Lucky stifled a small laugh at the detonator's explanation, trying and failing to turn it into a coughing fit. Hopefully they were the only three people on this comm line.

"Hey, come on, maybe this time will be different," he shot back wryly, distorted by the bad connection and the howling wind. "But fine. I'll save my questions for the end. Like, why we are even blowing up a freeway in the middle of -"

The cold was surprisingly tolerable for how much snow was falling, at least until the last and strongest gale forced them practically sideways. There was something unmistakably out there, and he didn't need a second warning to know what to do - run.

Lucky immediately dropped all of the daggers he was carrying in one spot and bolted off the roadway, seeking any sort of cover. Caroline's safety was unfortunately an afterthought - if she had any survival instincts she'd be right behind them, right? Yeah...

Being offered more explosives and the opportunity to blow them all up by herself was an incredible treat. Caroline bounced on her toes in the snow a couple of times, absolutely giddy with this power, and barely avoided voicing any harsh commentary about the ineptitude of Death's Leader. The sight of the big red button also served nicely to deter her from realizing that Mark said something about a risk of being captured.

"I love your job." She wouldn't, if she knew any part of it aside from technology and explosions. The worrying mystery of what the three of them were up against also had a good chance of changing her mind. "This is--wait. 'They'? Who's coming? A Death Star's not a--"

Being told to put the rest 'anywhere' gave her a long list of options for them, leaving her to strongly consider an attempt to sneak off with what remained in her hand. But she happened to like her hand, and the rest of her body that went along with it, and finally set the last piece down with a small pout of great longing.

"Set! All set," she shouted, carefully protecting the button she'd been handed as she followed behind them as best she could through the shroud of snow. "What's the radius on--nevermind, just staying by you, assuming you'd both not be blowing yourselves up."

The last portion of her sentence came over the comms a bit mumbled at best. It was more of a gamble to make that assumption than she realized.

"Okay!" She crouched down near at least one of them - or what she hoped was one of them - and braced herself against the wind. "Ready on your call, Rogue Leader!"

"Take cover!" Mark shouted, audible even without headset. He briefly looked at Lucky, or the spot where Lucky had been and sighed deeply. "Caro- err Rogue Pilot two, make yourself sparse. On my count of three!"

The ground began to shake, very visibly, as the snow and trees visibly parted about two-hundred yards away, several military grade vehicles exiting the vicinity.

"One!" They were coming closer, the drivers, clothed in a simple grey uniform, more than visible.

"Two!" Mark chanced a look at Lucky again just to make sure he wasn't going to jump up and flag down the trucks or something.

"Three go go go!" The first of the vehicles had roared through the highway, across it, several more of them following. Those visible through the trucks were all armed with odd glowing red guns.

"What?! Rogue Leader, my call sign's Rogue Nine," she protested, in the best possible time to make this correction. Fortunately for all of them, the name wasn't more important this her task to her; her own words weren't the slightest distraction as she put herself in position and waited for the signal.

From what little she could see of their approaching foe, they definitely appeared to be in the Imperial military, indicated by the faint grey of their clothing. Through the snow, she couldn't make out much more - not that it mattered, she'd be detonating those charges no matter what.

And that was exactly what she did, holding her breath as she firmly pressed the button on 'three'.

Lucky returned Mark's pointed look with one of confusion. Caroline was the one with the detonator, what did Mark expect him to be doing right now?

There wasn't much to see at first aside from falling trees. He squinted through his frost-covered glasses at the approaching fleet, Mark's countdown jarringly harsh. It wasn't until they got close enough to make out the grey uniforms and red weapons that Lucky began to feel nauseous. He swore behind his scarf.

Well, he'd wanted answers. He had them now, and more.

Through his drooping goggles, Mark rolled his eyes. "Fine, rogue nine, if you could fire-"

- A loud series of explosions interrupted any conversation as the sky flared orange, the smell of fire and smoke prevalent in the air. There were shouts, people were getting off the truck-

- And then more explosions, the combustion flipping over an entire truck onto its wheels with a terrible screech.

A smaller explosion, in the middle of nowhere, hitting absolutely nothing, went off where Lucky had dumped the daggers, creating a nice temporary bonfire.
At least now nobody would be cold.

"This way!" Mark whispered through the headset as those on the highway scrambled to figure out what had happened, "We're going into enemy base to steal some plans." He was a small brown blur that moved through the trees until they got to the opening the trucks had came from. He peered in, and then signalled for the two to come in as well into the completely dark opening.

"What took you so long?" the Death assistant asked when they were finally inside, "we're going down the service elevator, this way!"

There was a long awkward period where they patiently waited for the elevator to come. The truck doors were closing behind them making everything quite dark. "Lucky," Mark suddenly said just as the elevator doors opened, "don't touch anything. Anything."

As the flash of light from the first explosion lit up her goggles, Caroline jumped up from her crouched position and victoriously flung her arms into the air. The sound of the detonation provided a good cover for what would otherwise have been a very noticeable series of celebrations.

"Yes! YES," she cheered, a little louder with each new explosive reaction - until the contained bonfire of Lucky's concentrated charges went off, which elicited an ecstatic laugh.

She'd quieted down by the time their surroundings did, in just enough time to hear Mark whisper more directions. She tucked the detonator into her bag and followed along, pausing to catch her breath when they finally stopped at the elevator. The cold was clearly not very friendly to her stamina.

"Was admiring my handiwork. Duh. Give yourself more credit--your s**t's awesome." She gave Mark an amiable arm-punch, then directed a curious glance towards Lucky. Maybe she didn't know either of them well enough to get it, but Mark sure seemed unreasonably concerned about Lucky in some strange ways.

"Got a habit of pushing all the buttons in the elevator?" she asked him, quirking a brow as she stepped inside. "Ohh, or do you want the Death Star plans to yourself? Clever...that'd be clever!"

Even Lucky had to be impressed with how fast Mark could be - when he wanted to be. He'd seen enough guns as they passed by to know not to lag behind too far, or too long. He was the last one inside, hanging back against the wall and stealing nervous glances toward the plume of smoke they'd left behind.

"Excuse me?" he wheezed at Mark. Lucky had pulled his scarf back down, better enabling him to catch his breath as well.

"Er," he stuttered at Caroline's lack of suspicion. He was completely caught off-guard. "It's a - it's a long story."

Lucky glanced between Caroline and Mark in the last of the light from outside. He looked uncomfortable. "Don't tell her."

It was too late. "Dude, Lucky doesn't just want the Death Star plans to himself, he's going to get those plans, and when that fails, go on a hot date with Darth Vader himself."

Why on earth was Lucky counting on Mark not to blather about just about everything about him.

Thankfully, maybe because they were such good rebel infiltrators or something, there were no enemies to greet them in the elevator. It was actually a pretty boring ride, Mark occasionally staring at Lucky, one hand on his phone, the other poised over his division comrade, ready for some wrist-slapping if need be.

"So once again, the files, and nothing else. I swear to god if either of you bring back some home detonation device there will be words."

The elevator dinged open, and the first thing that happened was the three of them came face to face with three interesting people clothed in military-style grey uniforms. Each one was holding a different type of glowing red Runic weapon and blinked in confusion at the new arrivals.

OOC

"DISABLING" THE THREAT:

- Hunter weapons are now disabled, instead you must use runic weapons. Y1 ones do 1d6, Y2 1d8, Y3 1d12. You only need to roll ONCE before the next turn is up.

- There are three assailants that must be "disabled". Each one has 10 HP. Pick a target and roll accordingly (assailant 1, 2 or 3). AGAIN JUST ROLL ONCE. RP out according to how much dmg done as needed!

The analogy presented to her wasn't exactly as obtuse as calling something 'Kylo Ren level incest', but Caroline was still having a little bit of difficulty following it. She couldn't readily determine if this was a comment on Lucky's loyalty or his sexuality or both, and wasn't entirely clear on why any of it was relevant to their situation here.

His warning about sneaking out the tech was more transparent, though she didn't particularly want it to be. Just as she was about to ask Mark if he'd be having sexy words with her, the elevator opened to position them face-to-face with an equal number of Imperial officers.

Not wanting to kill the mood with 'I have a bad feeling about this' (it seemed better to leave that one to Lucky, if anything), she took a deep breath, drew a dagger from a sheath on her leg, and opted for a different line.

"Well, somebody has to save our skins," she announced as she stepped out, brandishing the weapon towards their leftmost enemy.

The elevator ride seemed like it was taking forever.

"There's - there's nothing wrong with being curious." Lucky crossed his arms and half-paced around the corner of elevator space he was allotted beside Mark. He was starting to turn red from some combination of the residual cold and the embarrassment, and didn't even notice Mark had already turned back to his phone while waiting for Lucky to dare to touch anything in the elevator. "Also? For the record? I - I don't want to date Charlotte, or whatever her name really is. We're talking about the person who, first of all, threw me out of a helicopter --"

There was a light 'ding' as the elevator arrived, and the doors opened on armed security. He'd worked himself up into enough of a neurotic frenzy not to be caught too off-guard. His hand twitched instinctively at his side to summon his weapon, and there was a brief disconnect as he lifted it up wrapped around nothing. He mumbled something under his breath - and unholstered his torch. After a moment of fumbling it into position, a frantic blast of electric-blue fire was unleashed in the direction of his nearest opponent.

"This doesn't count as touching anything, does it?" he called to Mark. "Because if it does, I'm going to do it again."

What happened next could only be explained as Mark breaking everything as he tripped over the first Hunter, nearly got impaled by the second, and then landed behind the third, giving the two rebels a thumbs up. "You got this! I believe in you!"

He was already moving further away, jogging slightly backwards while still thumbs-upping, the assailants still mostly focused on Lucky and Caroline while the second gave chase to Mark. One of them managed to land a very impressive shot that scalded Lucky's arm, another cleaved right through Caroline's shoulder.

When they turned to see if they had support, the support was very much gone.

Also the alarms had started blaring.

You can now just count the cumulative HP of the mob at 10/20 HP. Runic weapons still in effect!

The pain was sudden and abrupt and far more severe than almost anything Caroline had ever experienced in her life. It was undeniably the most pain she'd felt since bonding with her weapon, at least; had her bond with her shadowy partner been stronger, she might have noticed the absence of certain portions of its presence. <********," she howled, tears collecting at the corners of her eyes despite her best efforts to refrain from showing any weakness. With a hiss of an exhale through clenched teeth, she shoved the offending assailant with her uninjured arm.

"Couldn't--couldn't you have picked--s**t--somewhere that'd be less obvious ********>." She made a frankly clumsy attempt to stab the 'officer', hands shaking too severely to have much of an effect.

"Rogue Leader--oh ******** me why's this hurt so much." Either of them would have sufficed as someone to answer her, but she couldn't see Mark anywhere nearby, and that was becoming extremely concerning. Her vision continued to blur as she had to blink through another stinging round of tears, but a cursory examination of Lucky seemed to suggest he was okay. Mostly. "Rogue Leader, do you copy? You know we'd have to be way more intimate for me to--to just feel you through the Force, yeah?"

Mark's impressive exit strategy was enough of a distraction to catch Lucky off-guard - and catch his sleeve on fire. He flailed and attempted to put it out before it could do too much damage to his arm and his sweater. So much for a wardrobe with intact, non-burned clothes.

"Hey, where- damn it -" So much for the element of surprise. The alarms were going off now. If he could just get past the other torch-wielder, maybe he could still follow Mark, and then --

Caroline's painful noises echoed in the headset, giving him reason to glance her way. He could see blood staining her costume.

If it had been almost anyone else, he might have run off anyway. Instead, Lucky spun the torch around and knocked the butt of it into Caroline's stabber, attempting to wind them. It didn't do much except buy her a few extra seconds of not being stabbed a second time.

"Hang on, I'm almost there," Mark totally wasn't, "just try not to get hit and use your expert skills, Rogue nine and.... zero. Make one man look like a hundred! Or err, woman."

There was the sound of scuffling at the other end and then a clank, followed by loud static. Mark could be heard saying something, but it sounded like he was shouting from a long distance into a speaker phone.

Gratefully, the alarms had stopped blaring, maybe the work of the Death assistant, as the final remaining assailant took a wild swing at Caroline. The weirdest part was how easy they were going on Lucky, as if purposely pulling their attacks on him.
