Caelum Dawson || Competing

Caelum was anticipating the start of the race, so when it began, he was rearing to go. He stepped up to the line and joined in the dash of others towards the first stop on the festive marathon: The Peppermint Forest. The boy caught the hint of it before he was even within a yard of the makeshift candyland.

A grin crept up on his face as he tackled the obstacle with ease; his time as a chibi had suited him to speeds unusual to normal human standards, so he made it swiftly and effortlessly through the forest without breaking a sweat. The painted logs were dodged and sidestepped as if he were an expert in the field of dodging.

With that first leg of the race completed, Caelum hustled off to the next.

Pat O'Ryan - Running for the kids and not doing to hot

It wasn't a surprise to see a charity flyer around the firehouse but when Pat saw that this was going to be a run for Destiny City Memorial Hospital the redhead decided to go for it. It was for a good cause and besides, Pat liked to run. He tried to go out for a decent run every other day or so, weather and time permitting, so why not see how he would fair against other runners. He had actually gotten there just shy of the start, quickly payed his entry fee before also passed over the cans of food and a toy, it was all for a good cause anyway. With that cleared he lined up and waited for the announcer to get this race going.

'Racers--on your mark! Get set!

Go!'

With that Pat was off and running, or at least trying to but he found that as he entered the Peppermint Forest that the strong peppermint smell was making his eyes water so as he scrambled over the fallen 'trees' he kept tripping. A race he could do, might not be first but he could do them, but an obstacle race? Yeah he wasn't exactly the best at those when he could see clearly let alone while his eyes were watering so much he probably looked like he was sobbing.

Emily Wren Wily - Competing

For only a moment, Emily sighed, almost balking -- but then the call was out. Emiy was at the start with a sight, and then she was off with a surprising burst of speed, rushing through neatly. Mentally, she was telling herself to think like it was on patrol, shaking a bit.A bit, she feltbad for outstripping her daddy, but she was mentally kicking into a powered mindset. That wouldn't backfire, right?

It probably would.

Damn.

Ally was off with the call, and moved deftly, trying to get through. It wasn't hard, and it wasn't easy, just time consuming, despite what the show-offs were doing, and as she moved, she glanced to check on Cara, pausing once to motion.

"Oh, come on, we're young, let's show the old farts what we can do!"

Auguste Atwell (competing)

Running wasn't normally something that Auguste really got into, truth be told. But it was for a good cause, and he wanted to get out and do something anyway, because the holiday festivities were making him feel excited and eager for everything to come. The smell of fir and peppermint was enough to give him a sense of happiness, and so Auguste found himself entering, just for the fun of it.

The Peppermint Forest, true to its name, was a cheery place to run through, even with all the synthetic boards and trees. Auguste, dressed in a pair of white leggings and an ice blue sweatshirt for the race, darted forward, carefully avoiding a branch and then swerving to try and stay away from accidentally knocking into another runner.

Unfortunately, his okay-ish luck didn't hold out. Auguste managed to scrape his knee on a fallen tree, then get his sweatshirt tangled in the branches of another, taking too long to yank himself free before he was stumbling forward again, shaking his head ruefully.

Fritz St. James (competing)

Contrary to popular belief, Fritz actually found running cathartic - when he was not trying to run for his life or run in the middle of a mass battle in the middle of Negaspace, that was. He may not have been a sports person, but Fritz had always enjoyed walking, and running was just fast walking, at least in his mind.

He was wearing, of course, a ridiculously horrendous red Christmas sweater that clashed magnificently with his hair, and a pair of black jogging pants, Fritz making sure to stretch properly before standing again, absently rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet. It was a perfect way to burn off excess energy; and besides, the chill air was helping soothe his heart and mind a little.

At the first sound of the whistle, Fritz was off.

He managed to climb over one tree, leap over a large cardboard peppermint, and then haul himself over another tree, Fritz ignoring the strain of his muscles as he kept going, cold air whistling past him.

Quote:
You might not be the most athletic with these types of obstacles but if the tree's easy enough to jump over or crawl under for you, you do it. That doesn't matter though you're doing your best to get around them, even if you have to walk around a few trees here and there. (+1 speed bonus)

Peter Gallo (competing)

It had been a while since Peter had actually bothered to run in any races. He was usually so busy with school and his research that it didn’t seem all that important to get out and do things. He got enough exercise while he was out chasing after monsters and all that, anyway.

He took the time to stretch, glancing around to see if he could recognize anyone. There were a few kids around, but none he really recognized right away. He was maybe hoping to run into someone he knew, but it didn’t look as though anyone had shown up. Ah well, it was less of a distraction then.

Once the race started, he did his best to climb over and under the fallen trees with ease. He supposed it helped that he was used to doing things like that, anyway.

Quote:
4 - Man you're really breezing through this part of the race. You find it very easy to jump over or crawl under most of the trees, with very few if any that you have to actually walk around. Luck must be on your side. (+2 speed bonus)

Charlie Durand (competing)

Oh, this was wonderful! The lights! The decorations! Charlie was just so very much enjoying the whole thing and thought it was great that the city was putting together something like this for everyone to enjoy!

She liked to run, yes, but she also really, really liked to look at the lights and decorations. There were others who seemed to be enjoying everything around them as well, so when the race started, Charlie wasn’t all that determined to be overly competitive. She would much rather look at how wonderful the Peppermint Forest looked.

Jeremy
Jeremy didn't start out in a full run; he was happy to do a light jog. Like his brother, he wasn't here to complete per se, but he was naturally competitive. He had come here grumbling and feigning indifference, but there was a part of Jeremy that liked to win.

He thought about just running with his brother, but his police training and competitive nature made it very difficult for him to do anything that would cut into his run time.

Plus, Jeremy loved jumping over things, so any opportunity to show off his sweet moves, he was taking. If he had to get out of bed for this, he was at least going to enjoy it.

2+2=4

Myles

While Myles seemed to really enjoy the layout of the course, he hadn't trained much for jumping and he wasn't sure he wanted to crawl on the ground. He wasn't in this for the competition, just for the experience, so he didn't particularly care what place he came in.

Myles had no issue taking a detour around the fallen peppermint trees; he wasn't going to risk spraining his ankle so early in the race! Besides--slow and steady had to count for something, right? Even if he wasn't taking the straightest path, at least he could enjoy it!

The loudspeaker calling for them to line up got Jada's attention, and she cast a quick look over to make sure the twins were- good. Zora had backup now, and the kids were on the sidelines, hooting and cheering for... something. It wasn't her race, that was for sure.

Racers--on your mark! Get set! Go!

The Peppermint Forest- Jada grinned as she loped into place, setting up a comfortable speed. There were trees everywhere, and she didn't let herself get tripped up by them; rather than jump or hurtle through them, she carefully moved around them, continuing to pace herself. She didn't want to overextend first thing in the event- there was still a long way to go!

He'd lost track of time. He and Hiroyuki had been on to something with their latest project, and he'd almost ended up not making the mark. But he did, paying his entry fee and waving to Kaida when he caught sight of her as he moved to get stretched. Shortly after, they called the runners to their marks.

At the 'go', he let others rush ahead. He didn't exactly take a slow pace himself, but he kept himself nice and steady, taking his time to get around things. He was there for charity and to enjoy himself. If he won? Cool.

Gayla - Competing

Gayla hadn't been expecting the call for the start to be so soon. However, she was thankfully warmed up and ready to go. She was taking a fairly steady pace. She hadn't been expecting it but the sign and obvious scent of peppermint delighted the girl "Ohh what's this!?"

She sounded excited as she came to the obviously fake peppermint forest. The fact those who'd organized the charity run had gone this far out of their way for the kids was delightful! Gayla crooned as she jumped over the first, managed to make it around the second; then she ended up falling on her face and getting stuck at the third and fourth peppermint road blocks that she'd crossed. It took her a while to unstick herself from misjudging that she could crawl under one of the fake peppermint logs.

"Ugh, that was embarrassing" The teen muttered as she got her baring back and despite the delay seemed to be at least midway of the pack when she finally was starting to the see the end of the peppermint forest. Which wasn't in her mind; too horrible. Considering how she'd managed to get herself stuck.

Zoya and Kata - Spectating.

Zoya and Kata both cheered when the race started. The girls was standing there watching from the best seats they could get; they made sure to have binoculars just in case they needed them.

"I wonder how much money they spent making that forest." It was obviously the first thing out of Zoya's mouth because she was quite impressed and already using the binoculars of hers that had hello kitty on them. Since she couldn't find a pair of my little pony ones.

"I don't know. . . and actually, I don't want to know." Kata replied to her little sister. It was bad enough they spent money to make sure they had outfits and brought a few canned goods and a toy each despite just watching. The girls couldn't bear the thought of someone with a lesser Christmas than they got. They knew money was tight with the sheer amount of family under one household. However, it didn't mean they couldn't spread the Christmas cheer.

They were watching the runners as they all cleared the hurdles until . . . "Oh no she's stuck!" Zoya said in a hushed tone watching Gayla flail. "She should know she's not small enough to crawl under there! I would have been though."

Kata couldn't help but laugh at her sister as she spoke. "Shhh, Gayla's made it out. It's not that bad." She paused when Zoya looked at her, "Okay, it was that bad, but we'll give her heck about it later."

Aura darted from the starting line with plenty of energy.

Slow and steady wins the race wasn't exactly Aura's motto, but she knew it was best to save her full speed for a longer event like this.

Nothing fancy. She tried to remind herself. Don't use all your agility yet.

Prompt #1: 1
PostPosted: Tue Dec 13, 2016 9:20 pm

You've made it through the Peppermint Forest and are on to the next course! Beyond the giant Peppermints lies the magical Gumdrop Way!

This part of the course has been decorated with giant gumdrops. The course has incorporated one of the park's small streams. The water has been dyed a milky white color, and a sign next to the river reads, 'The Milky Way'. This 'milk stream' seems to weave through the course, but one thing is for certain--there's no bridge in sight. The course stops suddenly, right on one edge of the stream. Gumdrop props have been placed in the stream in a colorful path.

It's too far to jump over the stream in a single bounce, but with those gumdrops there, it should be possible to hop on them and reach the other side! There's a catch, though--whoever made these gumdrops paid special attention to detail; each gumdrop has a little give to them and even seems to bounce just a bit when you step on it. They are a little slippery, so be careful!

Quote:
Roll two four-sided dice! The first roll is for speed and the second roll corresponds with one of the following prompts; prompts can positively or negatively impact your roll:

1 - Look at you go! You've got some killer luck on your side as you bounce along the gumdrops to the other side. Those other races might be jealous if they lost their footing. (+ 2 speed bonus)
2 - You've decided to take your time crossing, being careful of how you step on the gumdrops. There might've only been one time where you almost lost your balance, but because you were being careful you bounced back fast. (+ 1 speed bonus)
3 - You're not rushing, but some how you've managed to lose your balance on some of the gumdrops. You might not have ended up in the milk stream, but you've certainly slowed down. (- 1 speed bonus)
4 - For some reason you just wanted to rush through this leg. Maybe you thought it wasn't that difficult. However between the varying sizes of gumdrops, the slight bounce they have and the fact there's a few slick ones. You've run into a spout of bad luck, which landed you knee-deep into the milk stream. (- 2 speed bonus)

When you are finished filling out your post, tally your score (make sure to add or subtract the results of the second dice according the the prompt it correlates to). Please record the results at the bottom of your post in Bold Sea Green along with your Peppermint Forest score. Keep up with your scores as they'll determine where you finish the race!

The gumdrop forest. Really, who came up with this run? She needed to meet them and give them a figh five. They clearly won't fully proper gumdrops, but it was still adorable, and made her tummy a bit rumbly with a desire for a snack.

After the peppermint forest, she needed to do something to pick up the pace; too many people had bounced ahead of her, if she wanted to be competitive. Really, though, she was in it for the charity and a few laughs. So... once again, she took her time, prioritizing safety over speed.

Who was she becoming?! She was 24, and peering at the gumdrops like they were going to open up and try to eat her feet.

Which.... this was Destiny City.

Amigar Perry - Competing

It seemed like she was getting a little bit of a break. Until she saw the next sign Gumdrop Way. It looked amazing sweet. She almost wanted to eat it all. It gave her some amazing dessert ideas that she couldn't wait to try once she got home.

She quickly picked up her pace since if she stayed here much longer she'd stop to examine the gum drops more. Just as she was picking it up. she felt herself bounce and slip on a gumdrop right into a milk stream. "oww..." she said as she tried her best to get up quickly and continue the race.

Gumdrop Way here she comes - as she quickly entered the next leg of the race.

As soon as she saw some gumdrops. She jumped on them and got super lucky. She bounced on them all the way to the other side. Not even missing a beat. This was definitely the best race she had ever been in.

Deme's legs were slowly starting to recover, but he could tell after this race he definitely needed some good r&r. All he had to do was finish.

He tried to walk along the gumdrops but he quickly lost his footing on almost all of them. though some how he kept his balance while doing so. it took him a bit longer than it should have but he did make it across the lake. Caelum Dawson || Competing

Caelum came close to take in the sight before him. Gumdrops? he thought, quirking a brow. And the water, is that actual milk? Wouldn't that be bad or something?

He didn't spare another thought to this second obstacle when the drive that he was in a race came back to him. He came at the bouncy gumdrops with a running start; kicking off the edge of stream and to the first. He landed squarely on it, but nearly lost his footing. The displeasure of being wet encouraged Caelum to right himself and take to this obstacle a little more carefully.

Step by step, he tentatively crossed the gumdrops. Every once and a while, his heel would bounce and he would fear falling, but Caelum would quickly regain his composure and carry on to the next. Eventually, he crossed the stream to the other side, and took a moment to catch his breath.

That obstacle sucked, he determined, glaring at it. Then, turning back to the race, he hustled off again.
