Melvin froze and turned slowly to Mik in the same way someone might hear that the person beside you was beaten with barbed wire each night. It was something that said a crime against humanity had been ignored at Mik's expense and he was speechless before uttering very slowly, very carefully.
"When...did you loose your toothbrush?" Because he had to have lost it, right?
He used to have one, right?
He hadn't gone all these years without dental hygiene right?
He hadn't made out with someone who in no way saw a brush in some time...right?

Mik gave Melvin a polite yet puzzled look. "Er. No. I didn't bring one with me when I arrived here. I had one back home obviously." Without his mother there to supervise his brushing it just hadn't seemed to matter if he did it at all. So he hadn't.
"My home, before." he looked a little guilty about not having it.
Lawrence turned his attention to retrieving more wine and not making eye contact with anyone who might decide that the reason Mik didn't have a toothbrush was to do with his father.
Rep shrugged from his end of the table. "Just cause the kid is a ******** man."

Melvin snapped hisbattention to Rep. "Proper dental hygiene is NOT something that diminishes masculinity. It's a basic human need." He stated and turned to glare at Lawr because this was quickly becoming his fault.
Not wanting to make it more of an issue than is was, even though it was a very serious issue, he lowered his voice to Mik.
"If you have bad breath, you are going to find it very hard to get people to kiss you. It makes a person more attractive than detouring them away. Also, it's good for you. You can take one of my spares."
And he would now have to go through his entire hygiene routine to make sure they weren't missing something just as important. A shower. A shave. Brushing teeth. He really hoped there wasn't more.

Rep rolled his eyes. "I don't brush my teeth and my teeth are ******** fine." he said, grinning in a way that showed off his slightly crooked teeth with their dominant overlapped canines. "It's no a need. It's just a prissy thing wussy people do." He snapped a bone in half and sucked out the marrow.
Mik though listened keenly to Melvin, nodding along with his words, he was happy and willing to learn. "I like kisses so that is important." he said. "Thank you for helping me out."
Lawrence found himself eyeing the turkey in a sort of distant way, the alcohol eroding the very thin layer of self control between him and Butch. Butch in his head slaveringly begged and pleaded with him to just eat something, to just taste it, to make them both happy. He didn't yet, but the temptation was there, just below the surface despite eating someone else's possibly undercooked turkey being tantamount to eating garbage.

Melody stared at Mik as if he grew another head and shuddered in horror. She kissed that damn dirty mouth.
"Thank you very very much," she was extremely grateful to Melvin as she now had something to get her mind off Mik's filthy mouth. She took a small sip and blinked. "It's kind of fruity but dry."

"Consider it alcoholic grape juice. Some are sweeter and some are even drier. There are sweeter alcoholic drinks out there and some where you can't even taste the alcohol in it. Bars are good for testing drinks out but we can always get a cocktail book and try anything that might interest you two at ....um.....someplace." He wasn't sure about home anymore.
He nodded to Mik. "Anytime." He managed though his current state of where to live rushed at him and he glanced at Lawr before taking a deep drink.
"So!" He said, a notch louder to be heard and trying to bring his spirits around. "Anyone want to share what they are thankful for?"
*bold for anyone to respond to.

"Rest in peace," was Harrison's grim contribution, and he drank.
It was the only one Rodney drank to. He looked especially stricken by Lawrence's toast to family.
He did look up at the thankful request.
"For the people whose risks, sacrifices, and care made a difference."

Rep smirked and butted in to Melvin's recommendation for drinks. "You could also try a huge variety at the bar." He wasn't about to miss out on a bit of free advertising when the chance arose for it. He didn't care too much about anything else that was going on, his mind still for the most part on the horsemen and the doors between them and beating them to their goal.
When Melvin asked people to volunteer what they were thankful for he shrugged his shoulders. "I'm thankful for this life. For Deus and all the s**t it's given me. Even in spite of all the bad things that have happened, I don't regret any of it." He felt a world away from the angry and hopeless young guy who'd raged onto the island and been unafraid of death.
Lawrence hated the word thankful. It was a simpering sort of word, it implied a placatory cringing sort of subservience to fate rather than an ownership and entitlement. People should never be thankful for anything but should know what they deserve and if they did not deserve it then they would not have it at all.
Still. He figured it was the spirit of the event to volunteer something, so he just shrugged his thin shoulders. "I am thankful I am still alive." he said.
Mik hadn't really expected anything more than that from the older man, knowing that he'd never be grateful for the people around him, for his son, for the things he had and the good fortune he'd managed to obtain in spite of all karmic odds leaning the other way. Of course it would be being still alive.
"I'm thankful for my weapon." he said. "He talks to me."
When no one else would.

Melody smiled brightly at Melvin, "I would like that very much." Though the way he corrected himself at the end made her feel unsure. Was that him reneging or just?.... She grinned at Rep, "As long as you can make something sweet for me I'm in."
She was distracted by Melvin speaking up again and leaned back thoughtfully as others went ahead of her. She mulled over the question for a while before leaning forward again. "I'm thankful for great friends," to this she tried to put an arm behind Mik. "Great food and drink." She had yet to actually eat anything yet though. "And family," she held her cup up with her other hand in the direction of Melvin. "I fight for you guys, a reason worth fighting for."

"It's like cider - I assume you mean the alcoholic kind, anyway," Jordan answered Sammy. "We have that too. I don't think we have any here, though." He nodded to the zombie and went to sit down again by Ro as a toast was called for; he raised his glass to Melvin's toast and drank, looking thoughtful. "To the friends and family who couldn't be here," he said. He listened quietly to the exchange over the alcohol, not adding anything. He'd been drinking somewhat less, avoiding drinking alone and appearing at the bar primarily in the company of the Suns and Moons he worked with when out on missions. He briefly eyed Melody's cup of abandoned whiskey, but didn't speak up for it. I'm thankful for you, he told Ferros, and sent the dragon a brushing curl of affection, which was returned in kind. Aloud, he said, with a touch of wry humor, "I'm thankful the world hasn't ended anytime recently."

He listened as the volume around him rose. The sound is eating, of refilled solo cups, and general chatter. The answers were sweet and kind, and it all felt soft around the edges and normal. He could say it was one of the gen best Thanksgivings as a hunter he had, but despite this he felt hollow.
What was he even thankful for anymore?
Those he had were distant from him. Those closest to him were gone or clearly showed they lived on without.
The war was the same. No changes.
He wasn't the same. He could feel it. Like a great barrel with termites that had eaten holes though him. Less and less as more of him spilled out to give.
He wasn't thankful he was here. He wasn't thankful for the people who didn't compromise. Who took and took. He wasn't thankful for the comfort that was stripped to crushing uncertainty time and time again. He wasn't thankful for the hope he had that was always stepped upon. He wasn't thankful for his weapon that made him a hunter. He wasn't thankful for good heath when it didn't cure him.
"I'm thankful the food didn't burn." He managed and went back to eating.

"I think all of ours is meant to be alcoholic?" She pouted just a bit at he lack of cider as it sounded like the closest thing to something from home that she could enjoy.
Still she lingered behind Jordan, not wiling to sit at the table, when Melvin asked for people to talk about what they where thankful for. She watched each hunter speak up wondering that herself.
"My Ghoulfriend...and the fact none of you have actually tried to kill me today given our history." She heard Jordan's last part stifling a snort of a laugh. "And that."Roland nodded as Jordan took a seat beside him, his wine filed solo cup raising up to click against Jordan's own. "Thankful I'm alive right now, that all of us are." Sylvia of course purred in delight at this. He went back to his food before glancing over his shoulder a bit and back at Sammy then to Jordan and everyone else.
"...Jordan why is it following you?""Err....I can... go?" Sammy instantly started to look rather uncomfortable at this.

Rep nodded to Melody. "You've no even seen a sweet tooth till you've seen what I'm ******** capable of." Sugar was just about one of his favourite things so there was no end of sugary cocktails available.
Most of the wishes people had were admirable, and though he glanced at Jordan with the slightest stirring of concern about what he might say. He wasn't sure why it still bothered him and didn't sit right with the way things were. It took all the restraint he had every single time he saw Jordan in the company of people he didn't know just not to interrogate them.
He supported the sentiment about absent friends though. It had been a long time now since killzone, clarice and clerise had walked out of their lives.
Lawrence was most interested in what Melvin had to say he was thankful for and though he didn't look over he listened with a hollow sort of sensation to the way he answered his own question. It was a valid comment, it was good the food didn't burn but somehow it felt emotionally lacking and he found himself trying really hard to understand why. No one at all had been glad about him really, even Rodney giving a generic and avoidant answer to the question. He didn't think wanting that was selfish at all, simply sensible.
Rep gave Sammy a glance as she too spoke up but didn't butt in and verbally attack her for once, instead restraining his instincts.
Mik beamed at Ro. "IM REALLY ALIVE.' he said proudly. "Alive and full of turkey." He hadn't seemed bothered about the zombie at all.
'Go if you want." Rep said to Sammy. "From the table, no the camp. Though I don't know why you feel like you ******** need to." He shrugged at Ro. "She follows anyone who tolerates her and Jordan's the most tolerant ******** at this table."

Jordan glanced across the table at Melvin, a small crease of worry appearing between his eyebrows. There wasn't anything else Melvin felt thankful about? It hadn't sounded like Melvin had also been trying to be funny. He looked to Ro as Ro asked him about Sammy. "She turned on the horsemen to help us out, and she's being held in camp for now, so I'm keeping an eye out for her," he answered, being careful with his wording. The truth, neither too warm nor too cold. "Up to you," he said to Sammy, not wanting either to insist she stay and make anyone uncomfortable nor outright ask her to leave. "I can grab you something if you want to try it."
