Samir couldn't help but smile as he listened to Aubrey's words. He sipped at the cocoa when the girls came home, perhaps to avoid awkward introductions and to have something to hide behind but he waved and smiled.
After he set the cup down he answered Bethany, "They are fabulous, as always. Leon, I think, misses you."
Partly, he felt guilty about not helping set up, but the girls all seemed to have their ritual and moved faster than he did.
"Did you two have a good day?"
He remembered school, fondly, but times had changed. Now, he just wanted to keep the conversation going enough that Kerrigan didn't shoot him any dirty looks. She was old enough, smart enough, to probably have a good idea why he liked to linger so much.

Aubrey stayed mostly quiet as she sat at the table and allowed herself a few seconds to decompress from the emotional backlash she had just experienced, then she began eating like nothing had happened with a small smile on her lips, she didn't want to worry her sisters or her guest, but the panic attack had left her raw and a strong desire to punch something until it stopped moving. The violent thoughts gave her pause, she had never had difficulties with managing her anger or emotions before, but perhaps she didn't spend enough time at the gym or out on patrol, perhaps less talking and more fighting would help.
Meanwhile Bethany chattered about her day and what she had created in art class while Kerrigan complained about a pop quiz in history and science in the same day. It was always nice for Aubrey to listen to her sisters, if they only knew what kind of world was out there they wouldn't be so bothered by the little things in life, but it gave Aubrey a sense of purpose, if she could protect her sisters enough that they never had to know what the real world felt like, then she would be happy.
Throughout the meal, Aubrey couldn't help but glance at Samir and wonder at the difference that it made seeing him sitting at her kitchen table, talking amiably with her siblings, he certainly did clean up nice and it was a sight
Aubrey could get used to... The thought also caught her off guard, she hadn't really thought of looking for a person to make her happy she had always been so focused on her sisters that she never really felt she was missing much by not dating a lot, but now that she was getting older she wanted a companionship that she seemed to be lacking, and while Lopezite was fun and exciting she also needed someone that could be steady... a partner.
At one point while entertaining these thoughts their eyes met briefly and she felt a rush of heat go through her face she broke the contact and stood up hastily, "Seconds anyone?" she offered as she crossed over to the kitchen just to give herself a moment or two to get herself under control.
'what is wrong with you? you're acting like a child.' she chided herself as she picked up the crock pot to take to the table to ladle out seconds.

Samir seemed like he was genuinely invested in the conversation with Aubrey's siblings; he listened with a smile on his face, letting the girls talk as they would.
And then he met Aubrey's eyes and couldn't help but smile at her.
"If you are offering," Samir said--not because he was hungry, but because he wanted an excuse to stick around.
Of course, he didn't want to overstay his welcome, either, so a part of him wanted to just politely excuse himself.
...But he doubted he was going to get the opportunity to spend much time with her without her siblings around, and if they were all on good terms, this seemed like it was just about as good as it would get.
Besides, he didn't care what they were doing--just as long as they were doing something.
He was really starting to like this girl, after all.

Aubrey smiled at Samir as she gave him another spoonful along with one for herself and Kerrigan, Bethany exclaimed she was saving room for dessert of the brownies that Aubrey had made that morning. Aubrey nodded and returned the crock pot to the kitchen went back to the table to sit and eat and ponder.
Aubrey could not figure out why it felt so natural to have Samir sitting at the table with her, but then it hit her, Samir reminded her slightly of her brother, in his caring nature and genuine air of curiosity, Jared had it too, he could just look at you and smile and you would want to tell him all about her day and how it made you feel without feeling like a burden. But there was more than just the similarities, she felt as though she wanted to have Samir in her life, even if they hadn't known each other long, he was someone she wanted to get to know better and he seemed the type to continue to surprise.
Once the seconds were finished and the bowls were cleared by Kerrigan and Bethany, Aubrey fetched the brownies from the toaster oven where they had been warming along with some vanilla ice cream for desert.
"I hope you saved room for dessert Sam, these brownies are to die for." Kerrigan told Samir with a small smile. It seemed that throughout the course of the meal and conversation Kerrigan was beginning to warm up to him. It was now obvious that he wasn't the cause of the darkness in her sisters eyes, and in fact seemed to be improving Aubrey's moods, which made him pretty cool in her book. However she was still a teenager, so she couldn't come right out and say it.
"The secret is the peanut butter chips." Aubrey told him with a wink as she handed him a small bowl with a slice of brownie and a scoop of ice cream on top.

Samir couldn't help but smile at the nickname; he nodded. "I've always got room," he laughed.
And if he didn't, he'd make room.
Samir only stayed for a while longer, fearing becoming an imposition. After the meal, they talked for a bit, and then he gratefully accepted her offer to drop him off home.
The car ran great, and he gave commentary the whole while, making sure she knew what to look for to make sure it stayed running well. When it came to part ways, he did so with a smile and a wave.
And a will to see her again.
