7: Under the victim's bed you find something you wish you hadn't. It doesn't help with the investigation, and you quickly slide it back into place out of sight.
"I don't think I want to be the one to find out, either." It wasn't like he knew any cops out here in Michigan, but he was pretty sure everyone already thought he had gone insane. Impersonating an officer would only validate their assumptions. The less drama he caused, the better. "Oh, look at that..."
How he had missed that book was beyond him, but it was definitely helpful. He leaned back and stepped in something horrible. He felt it squish and frowned, looking down at his shoe. "Ugh."

Quote: 5: You head out to investigate around town, pausing at a local hangout spot to ask some around about the victim. They give you some information about hobbies and personal life, but nothing particularly useful. Lex laughed as he noticed that Brian stepped in something gross and agilely side stepped it. "Guess we should hit the town a bit... maybe find some other news." He paused, tucking a strand of hair back under his hat. Better. He strolled off and managed to talk to a few people, striking up an conversation with a young man with a nose stud. He got a bit of information, nothing overly important. Lex returned and looked at Brian. "Sooo, it turns out that her daughter likes cats and wants one for her birthday. James little sister is friends with her daughter." Lex shifted, balancing on his heels and rocked back.

2: In the victim's bedroom you find their journal/diary. It contains normal entries, but the last few talk about a strange woman's attempt to recruit them to some kind of magic club. It was Brian's turn to stand back and let Lex work his magic. Out of uniform, nobody much wanted to talk to a cop unless they were in need of help. A young man with a nose ring might not want to talk to him any more than his mother. Of course he might not care either, but it was nice to step back for a while.
He stood, reading their victim's journal while Lex worked. When they returned, he glanced up and nodded.
"Alright. I'm not sure how that helps, but it's something."

Quote: Some locals tell you that they've heard strange sounds at night in the local elementary school's playground. You head out there and find more signs of wildlife, as well as the smudged remains of a magic circle and scattered herbs. "Not much, but there also been some strange sounds at the playground, thought me might want to check it out," Lex replied, cheerfully and pulled out his cigarettes and lighter out of his coat. "Smoke?" He asked, pulling one out. "And I swear this was easier in the swamp... but probably because there was just so many to find."

1: You hear a snuffling animal sound at the front door, and it immediately perks your interest, so you run out to explore -- and find the family pet, collar jangling, trying to get back inside. A dead end. Brian held up a hand, palm forward.
"No, thanks. Which way is the playground?"
As they passed a dumpster, he heard a strange whuffling coming from inside. Could it be their civilian?! There had been marks on the top of that other dumpster, after all, and it was midday, so hardly late enough for raccoons and things! He put a finger in the air and to his ear, gesturing for Lex to listen, and then wandered over to the dumpster and looked inside.
A ginger cat put its paws on the inside wall of the dumpster and meowed at him. He reached in to pet it and he hopped out to rub its garbagey fur on his arm. He pet it again, and then fingered the tag on its collar. Not only was this cat clearly owned, it was a male. There was no phone number to call if it was missing, though, so Brian assumed it was an outdoor sort of cat.
"Sorry about that. It was just a house-cat."

Lex gave a soft shrug, lighting his cigarette as he waited. He inhaled, paused, and exhaled let the smoke out through his nostrils, He watched, slightly amused as Brian pulled out a grimy looking little cat. "Cute little thing, sort of filthy though," He said, slowly smoking. "Mmh? Ooh, this way," He motioned with his hand, smoke curling in the air, and started to lead Brian to the school, and then into the yard. It was after hours. He kept to the edges of the playground, where the grass was starting to overgrow and hummed. He knelt, shifting his cigarette and brushed aside some grass, finding smears of chalk and crunched up leaves of herbs, long since dried.

Brian shrugged. There were worse things than trash, too. He might have to wash his jacket now, and it might have been nice to find the woman they were looking for, but at least it had been obviously a pet cat. Fighting something that would never turn back if cured just didn't seem like his idea of a good time. He'd been lucky out in the bayou that everything he had fought had ended up being a person.
"Ooh, that's interesting." He crouched to look the chalk and herbs over without touching. He had been lucky so far, but he didn't want to risk another curse. "You think she'll be around here?" He peered off into the empty portion of the schoolyard.

Part Four: The victim is wild and out of control. You must contain them via battle with the following statistics: Hit Points: 60 HP Damage: 5 HP each time you attack If you bring this beast down to 5HP or below, they are injured/tamed and you can move on to part four. However, if you drop them below 0HP, you kill them. Either way, after completing this stage you collect an additional 10 XP. (Lynx ) "Maybe," Lex ground out his half smoked cigarette and tucked it into his pocket. He picked up a fragile dried up stalk of something, rubbing it between his fingers. "Might be some sort of cactus... my mom would know more." He frowned and flicked it away before standing up, brushing his hands on his jeans. "Probably around here some where..." Lex trailed off as a low throat growl sounded and a wild cat with tuffed ears started to wander out of the grass, showing sharp teeth. "Hello, think we might have found her." He said, slipping his hand into the pocket of his hoodie to withdraw his weapon.

Oh boy. Here they went again. Brian had brought some blunted arrows with him, just in case, and he was glad he had. He'd have to be relatively gentle with even those to not pierce the skin of a little bobcat. That could cause the claw marks on the dumpster, he thought. Now they just had to get her home.
He drew a blunted arrow, drew back, and fired. It hit the cat in the side, and it lashed out and stretched its claws out at him. Gah!

Lex shifted on his feet, moving from toe to heel, watching Brian move and shoot at the small wild cat. He rubbed at his knuckles, making sure they were position correctly before moving forward and strike. The fur was rather soft, what brief touch he felt as the metal knuckles hit and caused the small wild cat to slide over the grassy plain. He focused, watching the cat and watched her spring and strike, managing to leave sharp tears in the sleeve of his hoodie as he attempted to get away from most of the weight. Brian stuck a foot out against the bobcat's chest and shoved it away from them. He had to stay at a decent range, and either way he didn't want it beating the crap out of Lex. What a sight they must have been, punching a bobcat and shooting it with a bow and arrow!

"You do know I'm a close range fighter," Lex called, grinning at Brian as the cat was kicked away. Brass knuckles was for the reason of a- he couldn't aim worth s**t, and b it wasn't as if he could loose them. The knuckles fitted over his hand rather securely. Lex watched the cat skid and waited till she jumped at him to hit, firmly, not as hard as before but enough to knock her back, even if she left him with a few small scratches. Brian chuckled.
"Sorry. Reflex." He'd have to remember to not toss the target away when Lex had already proven they were pretty excellent at punching things in the head and subduing them. Rafe stuck out in his mind. He took a few steps back and fired again when the bobcat returned. They'd have to shout a bit to communicate and he wasn't too keen on it, but he trusted Lex. They hadn't done wrong by him yet.
Did these animals just attack Chosen, he wondered? Or was it anyone, and everyone else had just not gotten so close?

"Understandable reflex! " Really, it was. Who wanted a cat to the face? Or let something with that sharp of teeth and claws near them? Lex did because well, brass knuckles. Very short range. Lex shifted and moved, getting nipped by sharp cat teeth and lashed out, hitting the wild cat back. "Really glad for our shields, right at the moment." Cats, had lots of sharp bits. Brian had gotten used to their shields, he thought. He ran into danger like an idiot. Nobody fought bobcats normally. Not being hurt made one bold, but under the care of gods this was a-ok.
"No kidding!"
