Before she followed the others, Ruby quickly looked around to make sure the area was clear. Then she quickly ran after the group and walked beside Sapphire, gently leaning against her.

"Are we almost to the Fire Kingdom yet, princess?" Melody called to her.
She was annoyed how Weston was still carrying Snowflake. She knew he was doing it to keep her safe. That didn't make it any less annoying.

Westice Weston floated over to the princess and smiled warmly at her.
"It's no burden at all, your highness," he assured her, "Now let's get you to the Fire Kingdom!"
Without any warning, Weston scooped Snowflake up in his arms and started carrying her, completely oblivious to Melody's hostile glares. The princess blinked in surprised confusion as she felt herself being hoisted up. She started to blush a bit as she was carried in Weston's arms. She didn't mind being a princess sometimes. Harmony couldn't help but giggle at the sight. At least now the princess wouldn't be such an easy target. She walked over to Melody and pressed lightly and comfortingly against her.

Melody sighed as Harmony pressed against her.
She knew she shouldn't get so jealous all the time. She knew Weston was just drawn towards others who were connected to the ice. She also knew that he was incredibly loyal and would never leave her. He was allowed to make other friends than the ones he had.
But Melody couldn't help but worry sometimes. She often felt like she had to fight off every female who even glanced at Weston. It sometimes got on her nerves. She calmed herself, though, and gave Harmony a grateful smile.

As they walked through the frosty forest, with Ruby leaning against Sapphire, Ruby felt herself growing nervous. She felt, as they got closer to the Fire Kingdom, that they were walking into an ambush.
But that's impossible, she thought, If we were, Sapphire would see it. She looked over at Sapphire to assure and comfort herself.

Sapphire could tell that everyone was constantly glancing at her, looking for confirmation that they weren't going to be ambushed. But there were some things she could control and avoid in the future, but some were inevitable.
"Don't worry," she said out loud but mostly to Ruby. "Everything will fall perfectly into place."

Ruby chose to believe that.
She still stuck close to Sapphire while keeping her eyes open.
"Are we almost to the Fire Kingdom, yet?" she asked the princess, choosing to repeat the question Melody had asked.

"I believe so," Princess Snowflake replied. "See up ahead? Where the snow ends? Where our two kingdoms meet is a land of eternal lightning. It's where all of the storms in Skylands originate. Storms rage eternal because of the hot and cold air always mixing."
"Let me guess," Harmony sighed. "We have to go through it, don't we?"
"Yes, we do," the princess replied.

Melody let out a deep sigh. If there was one kind of weather she did not do well with, it was stormy weather. Even when she was little, she was always afraid of storms. And when she turned into a ghost, it didn't get any better.
"Is there any other way around?" she asked hopefully.

Princess Snowflake turned to give her a serious look.
"If there was, we wouldn't be here now, would we?" she asked Melody with only a slightly sarcastic tone of voice.
"Don't worry, Melody," Harmony said, also turning to face her. "We can get through this thing! It won't be so bad!"

She looked at the storm and pressed against Weston for comfort.

Weston put the princess down so she could lead the way and so he could comfort Melody. He didn't know why Melody was afraid of storms; they lived in a haunted house that constantly had lightning flashing around it, but he would never tease her about it. Everyone except for him had irrational fears, and he was sure they made sense to the person who had them.
"Don't worry, my dear," he said to her, "I'll be right beside you the whole time."

Taking in a deep breath, the princess began leading the way across the land. Thunder rolled softly in the distance and every now and then, their faces lit up as lightning streaked across the sky. Rain began to shower them as they made their trek, drenching them from head to toe.
Suddenly, the Princess spoke.
"I think I see the first cover up ahead," she shouted, pointing.

"How long is this land?" Weston wondered.
For Melody's sake, he hoped that there wouldn't be too much more of this.

"There are ten shelters," Snowflake told him. "They're evenly spaced throughout the plains, so we should be through in no time if we just keep moving."
