Their numbers slowly grew as more and more hunters started trickling in. Too bad for Joy she didn't know anyone. At least not beyond the I sorta know you but not really level and Joy knew damn well that was all on her. Hopefully this mission would change that. It gets lonely in the basement.
Grinning at Jason's acceptance and somewhat awkward enthusiasm (there had to be something more going on here buuuut ******** if Joy knew what), she summoned her bladed shovel and shouldered it by the handle.
Joy signaled to Rep and the others that she and Jason were headed out before turning to her fellow Moon "Taralets bagets!"

Jason had about as much socialization skills as Joy did, and so was not as familiar with the other moon as he should have been. But he was always happy to be friendly with people he met, and he smiled back at her wide grin, Summoning his sword in one hand and following after the girl. Sadly, he had no idea what she meant by 'Taralets bagets'. "U-uh, Y-yes!" God he hoped he just didn't make himself look like a giant idiot. ((ooc: 9/15?))

HORSEMEN
When Artax moved it was with the jangle of a hundred bones and the clank of innumerable beads. He seemed to always be smiling at a private joke in a way which flashed a sharp gold tooth. He had seen more combat than most and though mottled with scars, gave the impression that it was the other person who had fared, much much worse. His wings were the most intact part of him, well preened and strong, held firmly to his body as he moved. He carried a long and lethal spear in one hand.
The only softness seen in the tall horseman was when he looked on his own kind, a fondness bleeding through the cold power. They were his family, each and every one, and it was for them that he did all of this. They would protect the weak and vulnerable from the threat of hunters and provide for them by bringing the humans in line.
As the first few horsemen arrived at the camp, he greeted them warmly, each in person, and handed them a small talisman. “With this, we will speak.” He said. “And with this, you will share our strength.”
The power boost was immediate and though their numbers were few they knew they had nothing to fear.

"Name's Ligaya," she began, "But most people end up calling me Joy." While she didn't expect Jason to have understood her Tagalog, the "Uh" at the beginning was confirmation enough, she appreciated him acting like he did anyway. The smile remained on her face even as they began their patrol of the camp's perimeter.
"Heat's not a prob for you naman?" she asked, though she was careful to keep her attention on their surroundings. After all, wasn't the point of patrols making sure nothing suspicious or dangerous was nearby? At least that was how Joy understood it. High School CAT wasn't exactly thorough and she only went through the motions to pass the class.

Speaking of, Rodney almost jumped out of his skin when there was another lazy order shouted out across the compound. He stowed the box away.
"I'll see you later on, okay?" He told Lawrence, hesitating, then giving Lawrence's hand a soft squeeze before disappearing out the medical tent flap.
Rep wanted Rodney to go outside the camp.
Something about being a vegetarian, but Rodney (shaking slightly) complied.
He felt nervous every step that took him further from the infant stages of the barrier, but he wasn't alone, and Seven's complaining was a welcome backdrop. Checking for poison ivy, Rodney lifted himself up a tree, to carefully pluck a bundle of something that smelled faintly citrusy from the branches.
Success: 5 points!

Close by to Rodney something rustled and there was a strange sound. Something limped through the foliage and staggered past him dripping blood onto the forest floor.
It was a white tail deer, and it was deeply gouged across one side, perhaps not fatally, but severely wounded.

FORTIFICATIONS
Liang wasn't really cut out for finding fruit, but he wanted to help anyway. This time he decided to help set up some of the traps around the horseman base. By this time he'd shed several of the layers which had been slowing him down in his work and was in a much more simple outfit which leant itself more to mobility and less to undignified sweltering in the heat.
He sat down to carefully sharpen some chopped wood into lethal spikes.
This he was better at and made short work of the task
((Success))

Rodney stowed the fruit in his backpack. It all happened suddenly, the flash of movement, the sound of something crashing through the forest, the blood, and Rodney felt himself freezing up completely.
A deer, maybe, and he felt viscerally upset with the thought of it scared and dying and alone. His first instinct was to help, but he wasn't a vet. If it was a deer. If it wasn't full of something else, or just was something else entirely.
Or...if it was hurt..
What had done that to it?
Wild predators were shy. The camp was making too much noise.
Rodney willed himself to move, but instead he held the tree tighter, trying to calm down, trying not to be dizzy, trying not to fall. His eyes were squeezed shut.
He should make noise. He should call for help, he should run...
His outfit changed like a specialized pelt, rippling until the colors mirrored the pattern of the tree branches. His arms were shaking. He hadn't noticed the outfit.
He should do something.

And yet there wasn't actually time to do something. Out of the tree dropped a tall, dark figure, directly onto Rodney. Apparently Artax, after handing out talismans had decided to scout out the nest of hunter rats.
The spear drove deeply into Rodney's shield, and his camouflage didn't help him, when he'd already been being watched. There was a very narrow window to run, but wether he got back to camp in time or not was another matter.

The sudden blow was, somehow, what he had been expecting all along, and the adrenaline and terror just built up into a further paralysis. "Please," he whispered, barely able to talk, not even able to call out, "Please, don't."
PUT ME IN, Seven shouted, and he could feel the gargoyle rolling up his proverbial sleeves, "I can take him!"
Even if the one hit had sunk half their health already.

A look of abject disgust was all that Rodney's pleading earned him. There was nothing more despicable than a coward, and a hunter that was a coward was only to be expected. Just as the deer had been bait, so too would this one be.
He swung the spear with precision and brutality, but as he felt the shield break he stopped, the razor sharp blade pressed against Rodney's chest, hard enough to draw a sliver of blood but not to harm him too much.
And just like that he was slung over a muscular shoulder and with a leap and a flap of powerful wings, was carried off into the trees.

Back at camp Rep was still working on stowing away boxes of rations and other supplies out of the reach of the damp. As an inveterate hoarder he was actually fairly good at organising things to last a while. This took some time. It was only when he was done that he thought to check his SPECTRE watch, a habit he'd developed mostly out of sheer nosiness (it was useful to keep an eye on people for gossip purposes)
He paused when he did. The ******** p***y wasn't on it. Not in the camp, not outside the camp. Gone. It made the hair stand up on the back of his neck. He headed over to Harrison, his voice low.
"Ace." he said, resting a hand on the other man's shoulder. "The bible thumper's gone. Rodney." he didn't sound too pleased about this at all. "I think we need to get a search party going, as well as this fortifying s**t."

"s**t, gone?" Harrison asked warily, finishing securing a runic dagger before standing up and dusting off his knees. "Was anyone with him? Fortifying's got a lot of work to do on it still. We start losing folks it's gonna get real bad, real quick."
Maybe it already was.
"Who you want going out?"
